Samsung galaxy S2 USB prob(not even mtp mode) - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
As you can see in the title I have a problem with my samsung galaxy s2. Until 2 days ago, everything was working fine. My phone was connected to pc via USB cable. As I was working as it was poping up with the autoplay.
My brother did walk on the room and "took it in his legs"(if you know what i mean).
Problem:
Now the phone is only charging at PC via usb. I am not able to do it to connect via usb storage or any other way. I did buy an usb cable but in vain.
What i have tried:
-buy a new usb cable
-reinstall usb drivers from xda/samsung/google/kies/
-clean the usb
-clean the usb from phone
-#7248... method
-tryied to connect on virtual machine with windows 7(hoping for autoinstall autoplay)
-update windows media player
-debug onn, debugg off
I am using Win XP sp3. Also after unistall and reinstall the drivers i get the message with usb not reconized and windows asks me to search the drivers for Multimedia controller and multimedia video controller.
Note:
Multimedia controller and multimedia video controller are asked by Windows only after I connect phone to pc when reinstalling usb drivers.

Replace USB board/port (but you need to get the correct part - search for similar threads to get the info you need; this has been discussed here a lot this year).

What version of Android are you running?
If it's 4.22 or 4.3 then go to Settings/Storage. click 'menu' and change USB settings on the phone from MTP to USB/Camera/PTP
Then it should show up as an external usb device.
XP is bad at recognising MTP (media device) so just set it to register as a Camera or usb storage in settings.

I am not using android 4.22 or 4.3. I am using android 4.1.2 and i do not have that option.
Until i will get another comments i will order a new USB board.

If you are on Windows: Samsung drivers installed?
Did you try different USB port?
Is USB debugging enabled? Settings->Applications->Development
What are the USB settings on the phone? Settings->Applications->USB settings
Mass storage mode doesn't work for me on Win 7 x64 I just use the media player setting and it works the same way as mass storage should.
It works for me just fine. One time it did do the flickering USB icon thing, but that turned out to be because the cable that I was using was going bad. It sounds like this may be what's going on in your case?
I clipped this from a post I made a few months ago...

For those of you having a problem with Windows 7 recognizing your Vibrant ... here is how I fixed it on my system.
*Note: You do not need to load any special USB drivers for your phone to be recognized in Mass Storage mode in Windows 7.
*Warning: You follow these instructions at your own risk ... no screaming at me if you try it and something gets screwed up!
1) Navigate your way into the Device Manager / Universal Serial Bus Controller
2) Uninstall the device(s) "USB Root Hub" (My system had 2 listed)
3) You will lose mouse and keyboard control (because you just removed the USB Hubs)
4) Reset your PC and allow Windows to boot normally.
5) Go back to the device manager and wait for all of the "!" marks to go away as windows re-installs the USB Hubs and reinitializes all of your devices.
6) Make sure your Vibrant is in mass storage mode and has USB debugging OFF
7) Plug in your Vibrant via the USB cable and be amazed as windows recognizes your device and assigns the drive letters. After you select the mount option on your phone you will have normal access via windows explorer.
Hope this helps some of you out there !!!

Hi,
I have a new galaxy tab 10.1 and a computer with windows XP. I've installed the USB driver from the samsung website, but when i connect the tablet to the computer, the only thing that comes up is a little window saying "MTP Media Player" and i can either "Transfer files using windows media player" or "take no action". How do i access the tablet in windows explorer?
Thanks,

You have to make sure USB Debugging is turn off and your bluetooth connection is turned off as well

After upgrading my galaxy tab 10.1 i had same problem with PC connections, recognized only as MTP without option to transfer files.
I upgraded media player from 10 to 11 in my XP computer, reinstalled usb driver from samsung site - it solved my problem.
Thanks krbernier

USB Plugin problems

I am having a problem plugging my Note2 into multiple PCs - USB2 and USB3 ports both tried, multiple pcs and laptops tried.
All running Windows 7 (Pro or Enterprise). The N2 is bone stock, no root yet.
It makes the sound like it sees the USB, but fails installing all of the drivers, and never brings up the window to explore the SD contents.
I have tried multiple drivers - the S3 driver that some said would be no issue does not work. Different carrier versions do not work.
Last I checked, there was no verizon version driver available.
Here is my process.
I plug it in.
It says Connected as Installer
I pull the window down, choose MTP.
It tries to install different drivers
Never completes in Windows, says failed.
I have tried with debugging checked and without.
I have tried aftermarket cables (namebrand and off-brand) as well as OEM cables from the S2, S3 and Note2.
I've removed hidden USB devices and plugged it into multiple different USB ports to try and get it to work.
Any ideas guys? Are you guys plugging your Note 2's in and are able to browse the internal storage no prob through windows ? If so, how?
nothing?
Simmilar USB connecting issues
My Note 2 does connect as a MTP media device with "directories" Card & Phone, via win7
But I want to connect the sd card as a standard usb mappable drive just like every other phone I ever had.
It seem Android used to allow this but now may not. Or I haven't found the magic setting.
I had a similar issue after I flashed the rooted image, I had to disable USB debugging in developer options, restart the phone and laptop to get it to connect as MTP

USB drive connection between Android and Windows no longer working in Oreo (v8)

Hi everyone,
I often transfer files between my Samsung S7 Edge and my Windows PC through USB cable. However, after (making the mistake of) letting it upgrade to Oreo (v8.0), this is no longer possible: connecting the phone via USB to my laptop only shows charging information in the swipe-down top menu, and I no longer get the prompt asking whether I want to allow access to the phone's contents. Consequently, the phone's internal&SD memory no longer shows up under Windows Explorer.
I've been searching for a fix/workaround for hours (thanks Google for this quality time!). Some of the things I've tried that didn't work:
- enable/disable USB debugging mode under developer options
- change "USB configuration" (under Developer Options) to "MTP" and to all other options there
- use a different USB cable and USB port on the laptop
- search for apps on the Play Store that can help with this (didn't find any that actually do the job)
Connecting Android phones to Windows laptops to access their internal memory through USB cable has (bemusingly!) been a problem with this ****ty OS as long as I can remember, so it doesn't surprise me that users are having to spend even more time now to get it to work again.
Any suggestions much appreciated!

Thanks - I tried that, but I still don't see the phone's memory as a USB drive, nor any permission prompt on the phone once I connect it.

Try to reinstall drivers ,uninstall all previously installed use USBDEVIEW tool .
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
Before I do that, I should note that, when I tried on a different Win 10 PC, I get the USB drive back no problem, so the problem is Windows/PC-related, it seems?!
Turns out that, when using another USB cable, the phone is once again seen as a USB drive. I didn't think the cable could make a difference! Hope it helps others

[CLOSED] usb not recognized problem

i changed today the USB charging port of the phone at Huawei care service, and i reset factory the phone , still same problem.
I'm still having the same stock rom on the device,
is the "usb not recognized" problem can be a software problem in the phone? thank you for your experience.

I'll try to help you but I'm not an expert, and yet I've had EVERY problem you seem to be speaking about.
a. I have had broken USB ports
b. I have had broken USB cables
c. I have had the USB drivers not install on Windows
etc.
Given I've had some of the same problems, I feel for you, so my first advice is to simply give up on USB for everything that you can.
Specifically, if you can turn on USB debugging and Wireless debugging in the Developer options, you can operate the phone over Wi-Fi using the Windows monitor, keyboard and mouse as shown in my screenshots below.
You don't need anything installed on Android to use these FOSS solutions on Windows to operate the entire phone over Wi-Fi as of Android 12 (which eliminated the need for an initial USB connection to establish the Wi-Fi connection).
In summary, I have had similar problems with USB where I've given up on USB and switched to operating Android over Wi-Fi and even mounting the entire Android file system as a Windows drive letter over Wi-Fi using free software.
a. adb
b. scrcpy
c. vysor
d. webdav
Use Windows Event Viewer to check for error messages on the PC.
If the problem is the PC it will likely show up there and give you more troubleshooting clues.
