Am I missing something, or should it be pretty straight forward using a USB cable to connect to a computer? My computer will read the phone in download mode (make the sound of plugging it in) but wont read when phone is on. Looking into status of the phone, it reads AC charging rather than USB charging. Is there a setting Im missing to change it or what?

You can also go to Samsung's website, to the support section and find the downloads for the Note 3. You'll find USB drivers there as well. At least I did for my Note 2
Alright, tried kies, still nothing. Doesnt show the device connected. As for drivers, went to samsungs website and went to phone, under download shows no drivers.
EDIT: Figured it out. For some reason I was under the impression you couldnt use the supplied cable because of the 3.0 part. Used it any and computer found it immediately so now I'm up and running. Thanks guys.
Any luck transferring bookmarks? I successfully transferred all music and photos, I can't find the bookmarks file on my htc evo 3d. Tried my backup pro but am not ready to plunge into the root world. Appears as if backup imported bookmarks but I don't know why they're not appearing in browser bookmarks. Yes I checked "my files" app, don't know what they're titled or how to get access through browser. Any painfully obvious technique I'm missing. I'm sure many people are anxious for a answer. Thanks in advance!
I haven't had that issue, since I just restored all with titanium backup. If you still have your old phone, can you export your bookmarks to another browser, say dolphin and then back them up?

I thought that would work, but bookmarks to sd (a Dolphin browser plug in/extension) has been removed from Google play and side loading gives a prompt stating there is no tool (program) to open it with. The only app I've gotten to work so far is my backup pro. It only transferred bookmarks to the Chrome browser, but only a fraction of them. Do I need to root in order to use titanium? Thanks for your response!

This is my second similar question. Kies sees my tablet as GT-P7510. Says also this version device cannot be updated???? And menus such Basic info, Sync, Import/Export and Backup/Restore are missing. Just an orange bar. From library, transfer to device menus are greyed.
Have I accidentally changed something on my tablet? Do you have similar problem. I dont want to reset my device. It is not rooted yet, so havent done a Titanium backup.
Doesnt anyone use Kies? It was a simple question
I got it to work for a short while but the program is awful. I just FTP my files on now using swiftp. Works really well and fast. Or I use doubletwist for music.
The only thing i wanted to do is to sync my notes, calendar and whatnot which were already synced from my Gtab 7 inch. I sent my notes to dropbox, emailed to myself, but the outcome was garbage. The 2 tabs have different file handling it appears.

Nobody's answering because it has been posted several times not to use Kies.
If you want to have problems, use Kies. If you want to keep your tablet safe, use Odin.
Kies is terrible in every aspect, not to mention the crap that force-installs into your PC.
All you need to do is plug-in your tablet in your Windows 7 PC, it will automatically download all drivers from Windows Update and allow you to sync nicely music/videos with Media Player. It can't be easier than this... not to mention that the Microsoft drivers work perfectly with Odin. That's how I flashed my P7510 to get rid of the creepy TouchWiz.
If you want to perform Samsung software updates, do it directly on the tablet:
Settings > About tablet > System updates
Apologies if this isn't purely a dev question, but developers would be most likely to know the answer and other devs most likely to benefit from the answer.
If your touchscreen no longer works, how can I make a backup? So I don't lose my photos, contacts, and need to reinstall every app/every setting when they give me the replacement phone? I'd temp root and run Titanium Backup but with the touchscreen bad I can't even unlock the phone, let alone navigate the menus in TB.
My Evo 3D touch screen suddenly went crazy yesterday. I try to drag the ring to unlock the phone and the ring just jumps up a bit, wiggles a little, maybe unlocks, but then when I'm on the enter pattern page I can't because it doesn't register my finger properly, it registers touches sort of but won't register finger drags. The phone was working fine, it was plugged into my car's USB charger and audio jack, but right after I disconnected this happened.
(I tried safe mode, tried removing the battery, tried plugging into the normal HTC charger, screen just acts crazy.)
Thanks!

Thanks! I didn't know HTC Sync existed, now downloading and will try that. Will post back when I see what it does and doesn't do, and if it'll work without my screen being usable.

you could use adb shell and copy the important thing to the sdcard if they aren't already there iirc pictures are stored on the sdcard anyway... you can also use adb pull to grab the files and put them on your computer.
pictures are already on your SD card, apps automatically reinstall after android 2.2, and your contacts should sync with Gmail. settings you would have to setup again.
BTW this should be in the Q&A section.

Hmm, installed HTC Sync but it just says "Device not connected", it looks like you need to make sure your phone's USB setting is changed from "Charge Only" to "HTC Sync", which I can't given the touch screen issue.
For those that want it, you can find that software here:
Download HTC Sync Software
And per the advice of others in this thread I found the following which describes using adb shell to backup key data. It requires root, though, so you'll need to temp root. I haven't tries this yet, but this will be next:
Backup/Restore with ADB Shell

Why not just pull the SD card and back that up. Or keep it. Swap it with the new phone. Thats where your pictures are. As for your apps that sucks but not a lot can be done about that.

Ah, yet another touch screen issue. Mine is doing the same thing, but not as bad. Did you try just rebooting? (you probably did)
But, as suggested, I would do the temp root and then copy files from there that you need. But if you have your gmail account in there, it shouldn't be an issue.
This might seem like a stupid question but do you have anything covering the screen? Otterbox, screen protector, sometimes I get a few drops of water on screen and it won't respond until I wipe clean and then turn off screen. This is just to see if the screen really is not working or if something is making it think that there are multiple contacts on the screen and not responding to your finger.
Thanks for your help everyone... I've successfully moved everything to the replacement phone. For posterity and anyone who wants to needs to do the same... Here's what worked best for me.
1) Temp fre3vo root with Busy Box, SU, etc. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152101)
2) Backed up apps and settings to computer via adb pull. Apps are in /data/app and settings are in /data/data.
3) Moved SD card from old phone to new phone.
4) Avoided Market setup until I restored settings. Restored settings from computer via adv push AFTER weeding through the list of pulled items and moving out any items that were com.android, com.htc (or had htc or android in the name). Altered permissions on the dirs I copied over. Android looks like each app has a different owner (e.g., app_145)?!?! So I just chmod -R 777 the dirs in question (leaving the others as they were); surely there's a better solution, but it worked, I'll try to fix it better later.
5) Ran Market, let it reinstall the apps it knew about.
6) Copied over a few setting files manually, like the wifi supplicant file.
7) A few apps didn't automatically install from Market so I went to my backup of /data/app and ran "adb install foo.apk" to install those remaining apps.
8) Re-installed two apps which force closed (Super Manager and Lookout Mobile Security).
And voila... All my apps and app settings were moved to the new phone without much fuss!
Hope it helps someone else.

Screencast
Download Screen Cast http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/. It's Java Based and works on all operating systems.
Download and Install Android SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Temp Root Your Phone with Fre3vo.
Open Screen cast with your computer and connect phone.
Make sure USB Debugging is Enabled in Settings on Phone (Hopefully you can do this or already had)
Now you should be able to control your phone from your computer and recover your data etc.

this zune software which you have to use with the lumia 800 is one massive fooking fail...
its utter sh*t
all i want to do is transfer a video from the phone to the computer but it wont let me.
fail fail fail
wow more fail from nokia
the phone doesnt let you use the photobucket web site, so i think ok there must be an app and perfect there is.
except the app doesnt actually work, fail fail fooking fail...
getting very pissed off right now
Funny, I can do both of those things very easily. I'd chalk it up to user error.
Instructions please?
Have tried Zune instructions but they were no good
Click the phone that pops up in the lower left corner, click "videos" click and drag the video to the computer in the lower left corner, let it sync, video will be in either your primary pictures or videos folder.
every guide says drag to the computer icon which i do but it does not appear any any folder. ive even searched the computer for the file name and nothing

if you go to settings and collection it shows you the folders you have setup for video music pics etc you can change the folders there as well. The software is the easiest and best around. I understand though it is different to others but once you use it you will find other media apps dire. ie the way itunes handles album info and artwork it so far behind its not even funny.
Is it possible your having issues because a folder isnt setup? are you dragging the file to the computer icon and when you do is it saying its syncing it?
So how do I go about using photobucket then?
I just installed the photobucket app and no problems.
Just installed, logged in, and can upload, browse and download pictures without any problems??
I googled "adding folders to zune library" and the first result has step by step instructions, or just put your videos in My Videos. I would link it but I cant cus I'm a new user, well new poster, been reading on here for years
Hope you get um up and running!!

Yeah, it's great (although better on the Zune HD where you could manually start wireless sync instead of having to have it connected to power).
I have 2 auto playlists, Top 1000 and New 500. These automatically update and then just automatically sync using wireless sync.
what's wireless sync and how does it work could someone explain?
Connect your phone to your home wifi then use the USB cable to plug it into the laptop. Click on settings (top right) in zune and then wireless sync, turn it on.
Now when you're connected to wifi and plug the phone into a power source it'll automatically start syncing over wifi.
So all it does is sync with the Zune software

If you've taken pictures on your phone it will automatically sync them with your pc or if you have added new tunes on your pc library it will sync them to the phone and all that sort of stuff. If you have a pc running zune and you plug in your phone to charge anywhere in the same network, the sync will automatically start
Ok cheers, don't think that helps with my work issue as there is no wifi
getting very very annoyed
anyone had any issues connecting to zune
my phone wont have it at all
it starts when connected but wont leave the connecting to phone screen.
im about to chuck it at the wall
shame its a great phone aside but it may well be going back at this rate
that and when zune starts it says my video wont display properly
i bought my vaio 3 months ago with a ati radeon graphics card it skips past this but its going to be another point of stress ive had this nokia 5 days aaaarrrggggggghhh
Another great thing about the zune sooftware is the way it collects album info. Its nothing short of perfect. itunes really sucked and was rubbish. Zune at least lets you edit by album add your own art if not on the database edit the track titles everything and really easy. Nothing i have used is anywhere near as good not even close!
Hello all,
I would like to have your suggestions regarding any app that is able to enable WiFi transfer between my Windows 7 PC and the phone.
I had an app on my old phone that was enabling WebDav access and it was allowing you to map a network drive on my computer so you can just open it and drop in whatever you wanted without cables. I don't recall the name of the app.
Any suggestions?

Apparently Kies Air is browser based on the PC so no need to install Kies Suite IIRC? its in the Google Play store but I haven't installed it yet.
Thanks all for your replies! You gave me nice ideas.
I was thinking something more like a WebDav Server app that was allowing you to create a network drive of the phone on "My Computer".
I did find a few with the best being this one but I still found it a bit slow.
Then I tried Kies Air a couple of days ago and I really liked the interface it has. I copied over a 750MB file using both Kies Air and WebDav Server and Kies Air was a couple of minutes faster on copying it to the device. It took around 3-4 minutes which is pretty cool.
Given the nicely done layout and the speed, I don't really care it's browser based and I'm going to use it.
It even allows you to create a shortcut on the desktop.
Thanks again all!
I'm glad that you were able to get it. I didn't know that it was in the Play Store. I have now downloaded it. I used to get it from the Samsung Apps on my GSII. Please press thanks since I recommended this app to you.
I use the app ES File Explorer which have WebDAV & FTP. Really good app. It can be also used in a rooted device.
I have an S23U with up-to-date software and a Mac Book Pro running OS Ventura 13.2.1. I have installed 'Android File Transfer' on the laptop as directed by the software but the laptop and phone will not connect, despite my switching both off and on, trying other USB-C cables, etc. Has anyone any suggestions as to why this might be, please? As things stand I can only transfer files wirelessly (and slowly) via Google Drive. Edit - I have now tried uninstalling and re-installing AFT, removing Kies and Smart Switch apps from the laptop and enabling developer status on the phone to allow USB de-bugging. Nothing has allowed the phone to be connected to the Mac Book Pro. BTW, I assume I don't need to install AFT on the phone as well, as that isn't mentioned on their site?
When you have the usb plugged into the pc and phone do you have a notification on the phone that says something like usb connect or charging or something? If so I'd tap that notification and it opens an android setting that lets you choose what to do with that usb connection charging, file transfer, etc. Make sure that it is on file transfer. Default is charging. And if this isn't the issue then I'm no more help because i have no other ideas

If all else fails you could always set up a local network folder so you don't have to use gdrive so it wouldn't have to go to internet and back it would just be over your network

Yes, I've removed both of those from the laptop and the phone has never had them. It seems hard to avoid the conclusion that Samsung have made it impossible to connect the S23U (and other S23s?) with AFT to transfer files - a commercial decision, perhaps? Looks like I'll have to go back to GD. I'm a keen photographer and have ony just taken the plunge into phone photography (I still use my proper cameras most of the time) so I use the 200mp setting a lot - hence large files and slow transfer on GD, but so be it.

There's another app called openMTP. You could try that or file transfer using ADB. ADB is foolproof and will work as long as the computer recognizes your device.
Thanks for this. I looked up MTP and below is an interesting extract from the blurb - is it correct that AFT is "officially dead"? If so that would explain why I have wasted so much effort trying, but failing, to use it!
OpenMTP overviewOpenMTP is a Free and Open-source alternative to Google's officially dead Android File Transfer app for macOS. Use OpenMTP to transfer files between macOS and Android phone using your phone's USB cable.

OK, again - thank you. I have tried OpenMTP and it doesn't work, despite my having followed all the FAQs, etc. ADB is above my abilities, requiring as it does a knowledge of 'programming-speak'. Looks like I only have GD as my option - perhaps I am unusual in having an Android phone and an Apple laptop, but I wouldn't have thought it was that rare. Is it thought on this forum, I wonder, that Samsung have pulled out all the stops to make their new products as incompatible as possible with Apple's?

Have you enabled Firewall on your Mac?
If so, you'll have to add this app as an exception, so your phone can communicate with it.
Alternatively, you can setup/ enable SMB service on your Mac and then connect to it using a file manager on your phone. This doesn't require internet to work. Same holds true for other file transfer protocols like SFTP, FTP, etc.
If you're not aware of these, let me know and I'll help you set it up.
