...what is the obsession with them? I have thought this for a long time now, but I simply don't get it. They usually cripple or disable certain UI features and I can't imagine one being used on this phone.
This phone's stock launcher is already super fast and it has tons of options, almost to third party levels. Why would anyone use one on this phone? Is it people who are set in their ways and stubborn? What gives? Am I alone?

I really like the Interface on smart launcher. I like how it organizes apps, makes 1 hand operation a little easier for me
But I'd rather have knock on to wake haha, so sticking with stock until we can get some custom wake options with a custom kernel or something

My biggest reason is to be able to set grid size. Now theming is another good one, but I guess just familiarities. I've been using them for years.

ditto.grid size provides more options and control over widget placement. i like simple, functional home screens: time, date, calendar and weather. also prefer to hide the status bar, the option to use multiple docks (vs. on-screen shortcuts) and the ability to hide the dock when not in use. i use gestures to display the the notification screen and dock when needed. simply stated: i can't accomplish this with the stock launcher.
I'm surprisingly content with the stock launcher. Usually there's something that annoys me enough to change but it hasn't happened yet.
Does anyone know if there's a way to replace the dialer? I think it's ugly and much prefer the one I used on CM (from my Nexus).
never found a good one
I hate all stock launchers put out by all the big compaines. LG, Samsung, Motorola, htc, sony, etc...they all suck. It never takes me more than about 5 minutes to put my third party launchers on. I own about all the major ones and even some lesser known ones but my three favorite are next, tsf, and adw ex. For me the desktop like gridless homescreen of next and tsf have kept me with them for a long time now. Being able to size widgets according to your screen and not according to some set grid is so nice.
There are so many reasons to use third party launchers over any stock one but most of those have been listed already. Like themes, gestures, animations, tons of settings to change, and more. but really, if you like the stock launcher, stick with it.
Thanks for all of the replies guys. I see all your points and was just curious. I'm quite happy with the stock launcher myself.

With nova you can knock anywhere not just the status bar. Knock to wake is working fine without customisation, knock to sleep you will need to download an app call screen off and set double tap shortcut to launch that app.

Most who use launcher brought the app at one time or another before G2. Like me they use launchers to customise, pick and choose features to operate their phone a certain way.
The beauty with using launchers is that no matter which phone you end up with, it doesn't matter. You can change brand upgrade android os and keep their screen the same.

My main reason is gestures. With Nova I swipe up for app drawer, down for notifications. I've grown so used to this that I will give up whatever special features a stock launcher has.
Plus I delete my app drawer button so if someone is looking at my phone they can't be nosey and look through my apps that I have downloaded.

Looks. I just don't like the looks of LG's UI. Or anyone's aside from vanilla for that matter.. As others have stated, the ability to customize almost any aspect of the interface is a big contributor to my love of Android. With stock launchers, I lose some of that ability. Hiding the notification bar is pretty important to me as well. Not sure why but I don't like the look of a different colored bar cluttered with icons at the top of my meticulously arranged home screen lol. Same with nav keys. I use pie. As mentioned by others, I use the 'screen off' app combined with the double tap gesture to retain the knock knock feature.

So... any of you guys tried this? I haven't been running it today, no need at this point with MikShift, but if/when I go back to AOSP-based roms, it will definitely be my launcher of choice, especially if they continue to develop and include matching widgets for each Launcher interface.

That's terrible Are there any mods or anything to get rid of it, or force changes or something? That's pretty weird that they didn't just make it configurable. What's the thinking behind that?
I am just guessing but I don't believe the "mini" apps on the touchwiz taskbar are like regular apps. Regular apps can't be used in a multitasking way like the touchwiz "mini" apps on the taskbar, which is why you can't place your own apps there. I believe Samsung would have to develope more "mini" apps first.
If you get one of the android launchers from the market like launcher pro or adw ex, they each have docks that you can place your own apps on. On adw ex you can even have the dock rise up and disappear like touchwiz's taskbar.

The pop-up touch wiz/apps bar is just annoying I only ever use it for task manager I wish you could not have it and just have tas man as an app or widget. The bar only over pops up when I accidentaly press it when playing a game. It's totally rubbish since the apps are not configurable.
Samsung take it off and/or make it configurable it's the biggest bug bear I have with Samsung tabs.

Where? I only see a few and almost all of them are paid skins.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
There are more themes in Google Play than in the built-in theme selector. Maybe that's what (s)he's seeing.
This launcher is cool, but it feels rushed in a few ways. For example, why can't I configure:
Where the MX (Cover screen?) button goes
Where the app drawer icon goes, or its icon (and why isn't it themed?)
The number of docks. I just want the one.
The task killer. I can already open it by long-pressing app drawer. Yet I can't move the dedicated task killer launcher (from dock 2).
The names and colors of the folders in the app drawer. No "Games"? And what is Lifestyle anyway?
The icons on the clock. Yes, I know I can change them, but to select Music, I have to have it launch the stock Blur music app? No thanks, I like the MIUI one, TYVM. Likewise with Contacts, I can't make it open Contapps. Gallery won't open QuickPic. You see where this is going.
The home screen indicator. I'm fine with it being there when I'm changing screens, but all the time? Not feeling it.
Other than that, it is a nice launcher. When placing icons, you get the grid from GO Launcher EX. Also from GO is the home screen configuration (press Home, this lets you add or remove home screens, or move them around). From GO and ADW it has a popup when long-pressing icons; other than being more visually impressive, it adds an Info option which takes you to its page in Settings/Applications (this is good if you want to force close the app, or maybe clear its cache, or remove its defaults).
The settings are also really bare and spread out amongst some confusing labels.
This app has a couple neat ideas. The app drawer and cover screen are nice touches, but the customization is very shallow. It feels like a beta, a work in progress. I'll keep it around because this thing is just dripping with potential.
Does tsf have re-sizable widgets? I like having pictures of my newborn but I like to resize the dimensions.
This is the only thing I'm waiting for...
really... 191 views and not one reply...
I haven't seen a option to resize widgets...I know that would be nice..and hide icon labels

Yeah you can resize Widgets and change the density of the apps
Edit: totally worth $16- it's butter smooth not once is there lag. It used to slightly lag at 213 density but after a recent update its silk. The best part is resizing apps and Widgets because at 213 everything can get tiny as hell. And there is landscape mode you have to manually change it.
Although this might seem like a flaw its due to tthe fact that tsf is not limited to a grid size- rather an infinite plane of room on a homescreen to put apps and whathaveyou
Totally worth the purchase

Am I the only one who thinks Google messed up many android features in 4.2?
1) Notification power widgets . now you need a 2nd panel for that.
2) AOKP allows revert to old style power widgets, but they are laid out poorly and less elegant compared to <4.2
3) Lockscreen widgets. Can someone PLEASE explain how this is faster/,more efficient than simply setting a lockscreen target? For example, soundhound ID now can be a lockscreen target. If you set it as a lockscreen widget, it takes more swipes/effort to get to.

The lock screen widgets, very sadly, remind me of windows 8. There is no need to have x amount of lock screens. Press the power button and move the lock ring to what ever app you wanna open.
Aren't the notification toggles CM based tho?

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but if using cm10.1 you can enable the old style toggles in settings/system/notification drawer, check power widget and configure. You can also disable lockscreen widgets using an app from the Playstore named lockscreen policy. That pretty much solves your issues. Also, as mentioned those toggles were from cm not Google. 4.2+ are the first builds to have toggles.

At first I preferred 4.1.2 but after using 4.2.2 for awhile I really like it. I ignore the lockscreen widgets and with the toggles set to pull down from either right or left on the status bar it works really well.
I figured I had to adapt to stay current and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. :victory:

i just use CMs notification widgets its the same as the old one and i make sure the other ones dont pop up. as for lockscreen widgets. i dont use them much but i do like widgetlocker. that thing has so many different addons for notifications its pretty badass. better than the old one of just clock and weather and calendar. i dont use much of the other widgets for anything else though. you can set the lockscreen to always have targets as the primary when waking up so you dont have push the lock button then target what you want to open. then it ends up just working like 4.1.2 just you have a better lockscreen clock/notifications display.

Yeah there's cool swipe features thru out. I love swiping the bottom of the notification pulldown to toggle between that and your tiles. I like the way Google is going with swiping instead of pressing for said action
checked out gallery. I like it

Re: 4.2.2<4.1.2?
I must have some setting wrong, cuz sweep in my notification drawer just closes it. If I pull down from right edge, it does open tiles, though. Honestly, I haven't dug into the settings as much as I ususally do. There's just too many, it's overwhelming lol. Running mikeshepards release of rootbox. Hell, the pie settings, haven't even looked em hahaha

The swiping to switch to tiles is a CM feature

But it's in rootbox and PAC, too, I just messed it up somehow, it was working the other day. I'm guessing dastin just means it's not in stock android/AOSP.

I prefer 4.2 to 4.1
Honestly i feel as 4.2 simply added more "sweets" to 4.1, and we have the choice to ignored these features.i love the toggles, one of the features im impatiently waiting for in the Evo 4.2 Sense 5 update. As far as lock screen widgets go i use one and only 1 widget, daily motivational quotes widget i disable all other ones (Even the camera widget), but for each their own. we could have updates like IOS where we get little to no new eyecandy to play and show off *Shurgs*
