I think hard reset means rebooting your phone by holding down the power button.. Meh anyway I understand what you meant.
Well just to brainstorm, HTC comes with a default integration with drop box. Meaning all your photo's gets uploaded automatically to dropbox unless you disable it. So, First off check dropbox first, you should atleast have some photos since nobody disables "dropbox" that immediate.
Next time, If you have important stuff on your phone, try to back them up on the pc, and try to use a cloud service like what i said "dropbox" or "google drive" or any other type. Or just upload to facebook
Best of luck and hope you get the photos back

Now that you "factory reset" you should have an empty SD Card, so if you are "interested" in rooting or think you might be , you should unlock the bootloader now before your phone becomes filled with apps again, since the bootloader unlocking will require you to "erase" the data AGAIN.
Just a tip although you might not want to root, unlocking is different from rooting though, so you are not really "rooted" as per say. Anyway best of luck, if you are interested in knowing the difference there is a link in my signature explaining that or you can just google or check the forums, or not Best of luck

no no I think it was a misunderstanding
HTC One X+ does not have SD Card
The purpose of the "recovery", was "Data Recovery" and bring deleted files back! not CWM recovery or other
i am looking for app for recovering my deleted photos since my last factory reset! i have stock rom on my phone now and i dont want to root it
because all "Data recovery" apps want root access

I understand just fine, you misunderstood what i said. What I said was, now that you sadly lost all your data, you might want to take this chance and root since the step of unlocking the "bootloader" itself will make you erase the data again. It was an offtopic out of content advice , just for the future.
As for your issue I already said all what I know, best of luck and maybe someone else knows

Hi guys, i looked at some of the other related threads but couldnt find the info I need!
I want to get some of the data that is stored in the phones memory. i use windows 7 x64.
also if anyone has experience with getting a phone replaced/repaired by an insurance company, do you know if they care about a phone being rooted and having a custom rom on it?
they will only be repairing the screen, nothing else. If they will care, I would want to flash the rom back to stock, and unroot just case. is this possible without a screen?
where to even begin...
"I want to get some of the data that is stored in the phones memory. i use windows 7 x64." THANK YOU FOR SO MUCH DETAIL I CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY HOW TO GET THAT DATA MAYBE TRY COPY AND PASTE OR ALTERNATIVELY DELETE SYSTEM 32.
and yes the insurance company might care, flash stock for safety.
umm what more information would you like? the make and model are evident, the situation has been explained and the platform my computer runs on has also been stated. the rest is down to an experienced user informing me what programs/tools I will need to do what I wish to do.
ve managed to get the data i wanted off the phone my self by tinkering around, but im at a loss as to how I would flash to stock without the screen.

If you haven't installed the phone driver's install it using Samsung Kies and when you connect the phone it will automatically connect in mtp mode(if you enabled usb debugging you will get it connected as a flash drive) in both cases the phone memory and sd card will be mounted and you can retrieve your data.
Yes you will definitely need to flash a stock rom (or they will make you pay for it) since you can do it via Odin and download mode, you can pretty much do it safely without the screen but be sure to perform a factory reset and the required wipes beforehand to avoid bootloops(no idea how to do it without the screen you might have to guess your way through this).

I expect the same from others.
Thanks king, i was wondering if ODIN would be useful in this process. I wonder if there is a sort of 'map' of the cwm menus so i could carefully (blindly) navigate the menus and factory reset.

I am sure if you search around you will get picture posts here but I recommend you Google how to install a rom using CWM (be sure of your version) and several videos from YouTube will surely pop up follow their pattern of using CWM it will be more assuring to follow.
Hope this helps.

CWM is integrated with the kernel
you can't access its information from the internal memory or the sd card which you can access from your computer, you better flash a kernel containing CWM (version known ) and then try to wipe and flash it, and it will mostly be 5.5.0.4 if it was a recent kernel, but better be safe than sorry.
Also if you know what version kernel you installed you can check the developer page for CWM information or ask there for the version.

"ALTERNATIVELY DELETE SYSTEM 32" What do you mean by this?
Are you telling him to corrupt his Windows installation or was it a typo? :screwy:

He has given enough detail for the problem, your sarcasm is pointless :what:

hey man i had siyah kernel with paranoid android! i honestly cant remember what version though.
I tried getting my phone into download mode, but ODIN didnt detect anything. I think im just going to take a shot and send it off to the insurance company and see what happens.
they should only be fixing the screen and nothing else, so hopefully they wont care about the custom rom
If you don't see anything, well you could use the windows media center, I don't use Win 7,
but I know that it existed before.
Alternatively, you could use "adb" (from android sdk) for use when your phone is plugged on usb,
using simple command lines you will be able to go through your filesystem and
copy what you need using the "pull" command (explained under the adb interface).
And indeed, it works better with a rooted phone.
Hi! i need som help!!
With a mistake i did reset my HTC ONE X+ to factory settings by accident....
And i need to restore my photos, and is urgent .. But when i connect my HTC ONE X+ to my PC(win7) i do not get the opportunity USB Mass storage.. so i can't find the sdcard which is integrated in the phone 64 GB.. on my recovery program (Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery)....
Is it anybody in here that can help me ? I would be greatful if somebody could do that!!!
Thanks in advance ...
On your phone go to:
Settings --> Developer Options --> USB Debugging (you should enable that)
Then connect the phone via USB to your PC and it should be visible now. But I doubt that your file recovery software will work (((
it's the same... is it any possibilities for me to recover my lost pictures any ways ?
i would love to hear som more examples!
i have spoken with some peoples and they said that my only option is to root my phone... is anybody who can give me a quick guide here to me how to do it( link to other topic?)
And how to backup my originally rom?
Thanks in advice!

Thank you so much!
I know i am a noob, but then my final question is.. After doing all the stuff in you'r tutorial regarding rooting my phone will i then be able to get my phone to USB mass storage and find my internal sd card on my phone on "my computer" in my recovery program?
Honestly, there is no chance you recover your photos. Sorry.
By unlocking your bootloader your phone will be completely erased, from A to Z. Your phone should have been rooted before the "issue" to have a slight chance of recovering. Those MTP devices are a PITA when it comes to recover lost DATA.
MTP on Wikipedia
It is important to sync this kind of device with a cloud service to cover any chance of losing precious DATA like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.
You can recover photos lost after factory reset, but you need to use special android data recovery tool, here's a good guide:
how to recover data from android phone after factory reset
hope this helps.

Hi!
A few days ago something happened to my dad's xperia active.
He said that the battery got empty and when he got home, he wanted me to check what's wrong with it since he said it didn't turn on. When I pushed the power button, the screen was all black, BUT the blacklight for the soft buttons started up. So I thought it must be either a dead screen or a dead battery but I wasn't sure, so I pulled the buttery and tried booting it up and it didn't, even the sony logo didn't appear and this time no backlight for the soft buttons either. Anyway, fastboot maybe works, not sure, semc flash mode works, but no adb...
Is there any way to recover data (SMS, contacts, and some pdf-s) from the phones internal memory? Actually, I'm sure there is, but how to recover the data?
Is it possible too boot a custom recovery with fastboot boot recovery.img on an "untouched" phone without root and without unlocked bootloader and do a full backup from there????
Any help is appreciated!
fastboot unlocking will erase your data to prevent data theft .so you cant use fastboot flash recovery.igmg
There are other ways which I can't clarify but they require submitting the device to an professional analyst and will probably cost more money that the device itself ..
You can just pull out the memory card which should have PDF's since /data,/system and /cache cant be user accessed

Haha, that's what I thought but my dad tried to convince me that they must be in the internal memory, like there was no other way which I found highly unlikely aswell.
Anyway, I think I will try to flash the phone to working state and nevermind the data loss.
Thanks!

Hi, looking for a way to protect the data in casa of loss or steal, i read something about crypting the phone...
Teorically if i do that, and then someone steal my phone, and its locked, he wont be able to read the data because the phone will need a password to startup (or something like that. sorry for my english).
my doubts are, if he connects the phone in the computer via USB... the protection still works, or he can read the data easily?
and this works the same whit the externel sd card if its crypted? if he remove the external Sd card and connect it to the computer, he can read it?
and the last question is, if the phone goes more slow because it has to be crypting and de-crypting data everytime i want to read something?...
Please sorry for my english, i hope you understand something and give me some help about this... thanks
There is a way to ENCRYPT ur fone but it will only ask for password when it is booting. But if u connect it to the computer. I believe he or she can still read the files unless u rly wan tat much security tat u even encrypt ur files. I feel tat encrypting isnt tat much of a use though. It isnt worth the time and effort. Btw the setting for it is at security for stock and most if not all custom roms.
For external sd card, if you encrypt the external sd card. It will require a password even on computer. As the sd card itself is encrypted.
There shldnt be any lags etc when processing it. Even if there is. It wun be tat much.

Ok, thanks... if the data can still be read in the computer i think it isn't worth the time..
Hey,
First flash a aokp or aosp rom so your phone connects with pc via the mtp. If you set a code like a password, pin or something else the device is shown connected with pc, you can click on it but then there is no storage shown. The storage is there if you unlock your phone. So the Internal storage can't be accessed without your code. Then you can setup a code that is required to start your phone. This settings is also provided as standard in android. At least you can download software like WhereIsMyDroid.
Best regards

Idk abt the method u said but i am pretty sure abt one thing abt WhereIsMyDroid. It can be removed with a wipe. Though yeah. U can set it up such tat if u lose it, u can remotely factory reset the phone which is always gd. With the gps feature well. And the remote factory reset, not sure if this will work. I just have to switch on air plane mode and remove the sim card which is both easily done without access to the phone.

The option on the phone encrypts all data, even if accesible it can't be read without breaking the encryption first (ie you get lots of garbage like info).
The downside, you won't be able to flash stuff through recovery since recovery doesn't have a method to undo the encryption. Also, i don't think encryption is reversible, so think twice before you do it.

No it doesnt encrypt all data. The option in settings encrypt the PHONE such tat whenever u switch it on, u have to type a password. Unless u use an app or file on ur computer to encrypt all the data. Otherwise, it wun encrypt the data.

Ok, thanks to all for the help... i wont endrypt it because i've read is irreversible, and if i dont like it i have to flash it again... so its not "that" secure to even worth the time...

Like i said. U have to think the chances of u losing ur fone versus the effort and time u nid to use to encrypt it and the chance of u forgetting the password. And also having to type the password everytime u reboot.

I'm running stock just updated to Lollipop. Need to factory reset. I've learned that reset now completely erases ALL info, which I'm trying to avoid. It appears custom recoveries like CWM and TWRP will leave your personal info intact (sd partition). So my question is, just for the purpose of doing a custom recovery based factory reset... do I need root?

no... BUT.. if aren't already locked or S-off... the mere act of unlocking your bootloader to flash a custom recovery will in fact factory reset your phone anyhow.

So now that I'm on 5.0 there's no possible way to reset my phone without wiping out my media?
If so, what's the easiest way to backup/recover photos? I've gone through and backup up my whole phone, both to my computer and to google pictures, however it seems google backup just lumps all your pictures into one folder if I'm not mistaken, which is no good for me. Music isn't as important, I need to reorganize that anyway.

If you are able to boot the phone to OS just connect it to your pc and start grabbing the internal storage stuff. You can also use htc-backup app to back up apps and texts and email accounts.

Yeah like I said I've backed up my stuff to my computer, but that's a pretty clunky way to have to restore stuff then. Also, my phone is acting up big time now and I'm at work for the rest of the day. So I was hoping there was a way I could just reset and go. Like I said I know I am also backed up to Google +, but I can't figure out a way to have them sync'd to Google in the same way I have them on my phone. They just all go to 'photos' and sorted by date. There are no albums unless I manually move picture by picture.
