[Q] Difference between GSM/CDMA ROMs? - HTC Droid DNA

The CM 10.1 GSM patch in this thread seems to just contain an APN list, along with a minor update to the build.prop. Is there a real difference between the GSM and CDMA ROMs, aside from the APN configuration? Will every ROM run a GSM SIM if you simply use an APN tool to update the APN list?

Plain and simple: GSM Rom versions are for people who do not use Verizon.

I appreciate the reply, but I am obviously inquiring about the technical differences between the two. To reiterate: "Is there a real difference between the GSM and CDMA ROMs, aside from the APN configuration? Will every ROM run a GSM SIM if you simply use an APN tool to update the APN list?"

If the ROM supports GSM, which pretty much all do. CM10.x and all its derivatives do, with the GSM patch. Some even have gsm functionality built in, like PACman. It works natively on all the sense based ROMs (both sense 4+ and 5 android 4.1, as well as sense 5 android 4.2) as far as I know. You just need to input the APNs.
I am a Verizon user, so I can speak from experience. This is just what I have found from around the forums.

Working in sweden?

This phone is cdma based. Is lte always cdma based? I want to use it on 3 in sweden. They only have UMTS so it probably wont work at all?
Hope this hasn't been asked before. I'm on android xda app so my search is very limited. Thanks.

[Q] Which GSM rom should I get? (Not feature related)

Im sure most of you are using the evo 3d from some American phone carrier. I am using mine from the Rogers carrier in Canada. So im sure the modems/radios are different and some other aspects.
That being said, what Rom (if any) can I flash to still keep the same reception and gps quality and everything network related?
Thanks

Hi,
Theres a ROM by the name of Synergy 3dvo which has some good reviews. Its CDMA. Now i know it doesn't answer your question about compatibility but just sharing that there quite a few CDMA roms out there.
http://downloadandroidrom.com/ has a good collection.
By the way if you know of any GSM ROMS please do share.
Oh my bad. You're looking for a gsm rom too.
Virtuous shooter is a gsm rom. I'm on a network called Warid and it's working fine so it should work on Rogers aswell.

Yeah, I cant use synergy, but I will checkout Virtuos shooter.. I hope it works, if it doesnt, is there a way to revert back to stock simply?
Through CWM hopefully
I've been looking for the stock ROM aswell but no luck. Don't worry virtous should work becuase its working beautifully on mine. It's better than the stock you'll see.

I am closing my thread because this has turned into nothing but bickering about gsm vs cdma.. Nothing ROM related.
Thanks you.
But we are not at DroidRzr, there is a lot of gsm users here.
You can say it is only for CDMA users.
I think we need more CDMA roms over here at XDA. I love droidrzr, but I feel like the development here is dead for the cdma razr...
Went from x, x2, thunderbolt, razr, g nexus. All romed minus the razr and I was most impressed from the performance gain on the x2 running an eclipse rom. The razr ran pretty snappy stock I bet this is gonna be one monster razor rom. Keep up the good work nitro if I had a razor Eclipse would be the first on my list.

Too good to be GSM one =(.
Anyone try this yet? I expected this thread to have more activity.
I've yet to try a new rom on my Maxx, so curious if I switched to something like this, would I be missing out on DLNA stuff? (i like to view movies on my tv streamed wirelessly from my phone).
ROM for GSM phones please...

Yes...because the development section needs more GSM versions... /sarcasm...
You have ICS, go play with that and let us CDMA users play with the few ROMS that these wonderful developers have taken time to make.
Great Rom
Great ROM. Any way I can get the Quick Contacts widget back?

Have you not been to droidrzr.com or rootzwiki? Heaps more CDMA support there, XDA is the exception in offering more GSM ROMs & themes, et cetera. Plenty of CDMA ROMs to choose from between the various sites, nice to see more of them make their way here - especially from well respected devs. GSM support for this ROM would be very welcome, though I can understand why it's not a priority at present.
For the record, the GSM ICS leak is only worth playing with for about five minutes until it freezes or reboots or drains the battery flat, so I'd not be too quick to hold it up as an advantage.

You are not serious...
How many do we have Rom for GSM ?
And look how many do you have rom for CDMA http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/forum/32-droid-razr-roms/
Is it a CDMA vs GSM war or what? stop flamming this thread with useless comparaison beteween gsm rom and cdma rom and start feedback on this one...
Now i understand why droidrzr.com have more dev than XDA for the razr.
Anyway, great work nitro, i'd love to try it if you manage to port it on gsm one day, really.
thanks for your hardwork.
You are right, it is neither constructive nor productive for users and for devs.
Would this also be compatible to install with Safestrap?

can we root and still retain tmobile wifi calling and 1700hz hspa radios?

root and keep these functions?

each rom and kernel is different. You will have to read some.
Wifi calling is a sense feature so only on sense roms. As I said the radio is a physical thing so it doesnt matter the rom.

Is WiFi calling really a sense feature? I guess it's been ported when I use it on cyanogen. Are you sure?
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I think Wi-Fi calling a T-Mobile feature. In the cyanogen thread, it is not supported. I'll probably leave as stock and just root
Most of the popular ROMs in the international section include a mod that enables wifi calling. You're definitely correct that it is a T-Mobile feature but since it's included on a Sense ROM (i.e. stock T-Mobile) it can easily be ported to other Sense ROMs. However, those are very different from cm10.1 and other AOSP ROMs and I'm not aware of any AOSP ROM for any device that supports wifi calling.

also any rom on the latest hboot update of 2.28 will work for you....unless you or on a stockish sense rom and do the NV edit you will only get 2g speeds on the rez with a GSM carrier....I strictly use gsm only and had to do the NV edit to get stable 3g...still trying to get 4g to work stable but having issues....i can suggest a whole plethera of roms that will work for you depending on what your wanting outta the rom besides GSM capabilities

an NV edit is changing of the radio files with cdma workshop or its free nv reader writer program(this will currently get you to 3g speeds...working on 4g fix now) and no gsm only works on latest stock ICS global sense rom or higher AOSP roms....as for the nv edit if you know how to use that program or anything about hex code changing then you can do it...not easy work at all though

Uncertain; that demonstrates the NV edits mentioned, but might not want to use those for international carriers. Let REV3NT3CH or someone else experienced give input first. I've only started reading up on GSM recently after switching off of Verizon.
Again in the meantime, likely won't hurt to go ahead and try a relatively new ROM that works on GSM. You should at least get voice, sms, and 2G mobile data on any compatible network. If you want a Sense GSM I suggest either sun_dream's Sense 4.x/5.0 ROMs, newtoroot's newer Sense ROMs if you can locate those, or hawknest's Sense 4.0 EclipticRez v9 (search and it will be on third party websites.) Or to be certain of full functionality of the ROM go with the last stock ROM issued, the ICS Sense 3.6 global release.
EclipticRez is Android ICS 4.0.3, so it isn't as New as some of newtoroot's or sun_dream's ROMs. But I know it runs well and actually had the hidden DIAG menu needed to set up the Rezound's COM ports for NV editing if that is in fact recommended. However, I didn't actually test a proper APN for mobile data on it. I did do a call and sms successfully so it should be good to go on data with a proper APN too.

PM sent. Also if I may call upon others, Newt's XxX and Hawk's EclipticRez seemed virtually similar in appearance and features, but from what I recall EclipticRez was smoother, had less bugs, and supported for longer and more recently than XxX. Anybody else who used both ROMs agree or disagree with that evaluation, or have any extra input on comparisons?
More feedback on sun_dream's ROMs would be good here too as that developer is based in Asia and has worked with newer Sense versions. I'm uncertain if they are "Daily Driver" quality ROMs for international GSM use, however. I've not had enough time with them yet.
I like Sense too and have tried them all. On Sundreams 4.5 for a while now and have no issues. I did put V6 Supercharger on and it works great. I highly recommend it. Both with OneXXX and EclipticRez I had random reboot issues. Plus it works with a TON of custom skins.

Yeah there's no tweaks but I use v6 to speed things up and improve battery and xposed module for button remapping. If you like Sense I can't think of a better ROM
