Tablet reverting to factory settings on reboot fix!! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so i had this problm myself and after forever of trying to fix this i finaly have!
The issues are as follows.
When you turn your tablet off then back on it reverts back to factory settings, nothings saved and no apps, the space available is 0.00b ad you cant instal new apps.
How to fix this!
root is needed! use uberizer to gain root acess..
options C - 0
then..
I used my pc to resolve this problem. Root is needed for this to work.
1) Make sure divers are installed and your tablet is detected in device manager. (PDAnet had the drivers I needed).
2) Download, install and run "Android commander".
3) Once android commander is opened it will show files on you phone. (if you don't see files you have a driver problem)
4) Browse the directory /system/Xbin/ and tick busybox. Copy the file busybox to /system/bin
5) Once busybox appears in system/bin, right click and click properties to check the permissions. Everything should be ticked except "group - write" and "all - write"
6) restart tablet.
Job done happy days!

Tablet reverting to factory settings on reboot
I followed the process as outlined.
1. I used Kingoroot to get access to the root directory of my tablet. The Superuser app was installed and I was asked to allow full permissions which I did.
2. I installed the drivers from PDAnet.
3. I then installed Android Commander & got access to all the system files.
4. I found /system/xbin/busybox & copied it to the /system/bin directory. This was done using the right panel of Android Commander. The copy program showed it being copied.
5. The file busybox could not be found in the /bin directory.
6. I then noticed that Android Commander said at the bottom "Root Access = No". I could not perform any copying etc from the left panel of android Commander which has both the PC & Android device file directories but I was able to copy busybox onto a directory on the PC but cannot copy back to the Android device.
7. I checked Kingoroot & it said the device was rooted.
8. Tried the process several more times including unrooting & rooting but still Android Commander says Root Access = No.
9. The Android Commander website is down so I am stuck.
Can anyone suggest another process or offer a fix for this.
Thanks

7. click on customise and allow it to fully install the applications, it will tell you finished when done.
8. mount your phone's sd card to your pc
9. download the root explorer.apk file from the download link provided and save it on you desktop.
10.copy the root explorer file from your desktop to the root of your sd card (do not put it in any folder)
11. unmount phone to computer
12. you will see on your phone that you have a program called astro, open the program,
13.in astro, navigate to your sd card and install root explorer.apk
14. once installed, exit out of astro
15. mount you phone again to your pc and create a new folder on the root of your sd card called new build, and create another folder called old build.
16. download the two build.prop files supplied in my download link and save it to your pc's desktop.
17. now open the build folder on your desktop and you will see two files, one called build.prop.claro and another called build.prop.vivo.
18.delete the build.prop.vivo file.
19. right click and rename the build.prop.claro file to build.prop (delete the .claro part)

27. now in root explorer, go to you SD CARD and copy the build.prop file from your new build folder that you initially downloaded and renamed.
28. scroll back to SYSTEM and click on the r/w button on the top left of screen
29. then past and overwrite the file
30.now exit out of the program and restart you phone.
31. don't worry if you phone menu system looks kinda wonky or doesn't really work properly once your phone has restarted. just make sure its fully rebooted
32.download and install the sony ericsson update service program from the download link supplied.
33. accept the terms and follow the instructions... (it will ask you to put your phone in recover mode by turning off your phone and pressing the back button while plugging in your phone via usb) you can make this process quicker by simply already having your phone plugged in and simply pressing and holding the top power button+back button+home button until the green light remains on.
34. the program will tell you that there is new software available for your phone
35. install and enjoy 2.5
Extras step to making the experience even better!
i personally don't like the boot animation of the new 2.1 update and would rather not have the claro operator logo at the boot startup. the way to do that is:
root your phone again by following my instructions earlier, and install the root explorer.apk file again from your sd card. once your have root explorer installed and working navigate to SYSTEM and then to MEDIA. in media you will see a bootanimation.zip file, simply delete it.
Now for removing bloatware (operator specific applications):
to remove application that may be of annoyance, just go into root explorer again and navigate to SYSTEM and the to APP and dele and .apk files that are programs like ei: claro.apk... make sure you press the r/w button whenever you want to delete or overwrite something in SYSTEM. And be aware that if you don't know what your doing, you can brick your phone. SO BE CAREFUL!
And finally, as most would already know, this is all at your own risk. Sometimes its better to leave these types of hacks alone if you don't know what your doing.
I take no responsibility or credit for any of these hacks. thanks to all the members on XDA Developers for your support and help.
There are steps to make it simpler ... which is independent of the version they have in the cell (2.1 Uk or other ... 1.6) is achieved by having the American firm ... thus reduce it without diminishing the tutorial: alex0983
1. Planet app install
2. Find and install z4root
3. Permamente root install and follow instructions, the phone will reboot ...
4. In Planet app also find the Root Explorer and install ...
5. Connect the phone and copy the build.pro (Claro) to the SD and disconnect
6. Open root explorer and if I get a message to: super user ... allow him ....
7. mounted R / W. ... go the SD route where the build.prop copy and recopy this time from root explorer and find the path: / system and replace the phone ....
8. Turn off the phone ....
9. Connecting to Seus and select repair ...! and ready ... your phone now is American again! And firmware 2.1
10. To remove things Claro, just make the points 1,2,3,4! then the path / system / media to copy the boot loader found in the forum and in the path / system / app to delete the applications they say. clear (remember to mounted R / W)
I hope you find it useful! And that worked for me! Obviously, thanks to your tutorial alex0983 which also served me as a whole, but I found the quickest way!
Sorry for my bad english!
re:
hey no problem, i'm glad you found it useful. Sorry for the 35+ steps... I just wanted to make it easy to follow for people who had never done something like this before. Just trying to help ppl.
Actually the tutorial is very well prepared but no longer so necessary to the root from the phone! And for that we are in the community to help and facilitate the process to other users!
Kudos for you alex0983 and kloriahdez, thanks for your posts!!!

Should this procedure work with this or it won't work
If not, how to root the phone?
I mentioned that kingoldstyle had the same problem. I also updated the phone prior to doing this procedure.
So, maybe kingoldstyle can help me with rooting?
How to use flashing tools?

[Q] Uruk 0.7 Market not installing...

I installed Uruk 0.7 to internal and everything is working fine. However, I followed directions to install market and it didn't work:
If you want GoogleMarket (and required component to make it work) you can install UrukDroid package - UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.tbz2. (files inside this packaged are base on kenyu73 work).
If you copied your old /data, you cannot have installed any other version of Market. If you apply this update, on previously installed market/vending etc. - it won't work. This packaged is tested with fresh install of Uruk - where it works.
Download archive and put it in UrukUpdate directory located on /data partition
(so path is /data/UrukUpdate/). You should do it directly from internet browser on Archos Tablet, file manager like Astro or terminal - you shouldn't do it over USB.
Installation process will start automatically and silently, file will disappear from that folder after it's done. To run Market, restart is required when you'll be ready.

I downloaded from the link and at first it wouldn't allow me to download from link because it said file format not accepted by device. So I used Astro (as described) and clicked on the "allow all download formats" button, then downloaded to the directory listed above (/data/UrukUpdate/). I rebooted and nothing happened. I tried to do an "update" through Astro, and nothing happened, I tried to place in root and nothing happened...
I noticed the file I downloaded was UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.sub rather than UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.tbz2. However, that is how it downloads every time. So I gues...
I'm lost.
Any suggestions? I can't download any of my apps through Appbrain or Market, so I am not happy with Uruk without access to Market. Thanks for any help!!

Create download-dir on your 101.
Download file with your pc and copy the file UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.tbz2 to the dir on your 101 using usb-connection.
Copy the file from download-dir to /data/UrukUpdate/ using Root Explorer.
Exit Root Explorer and wait a minute or two. Run Root Explorer again and check /data/UrukUpdate/ for if it is empty. At this point Market is installed. Restart you 101 and run Market.
Yeah!
Cheers.
Thanks for the info, followed it with Astro (can't DL Root Explorer through AppLib) and still no go... Anything else?
Have you tried to copy file via terminal? Because for me, any of the file managers doesn't work to write files in system (they says rooted, but cannot mount read\write, or something like it).
So i went to terminal and:
su
cp /sdcard/UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.tbz2 /data/UrukUpdate/
Restart and i have Android Market.
Of course you have to use path to file instead of "/sdcard/UrukDroid-GoogleMarket_1.0.tbz2", to your location.
Worked! Thanks!

[Q] Missing Urukupdate folder

So I'm trying to test out the OC Kernel for UD, downloaded the 1.5.1 Kernel tbz2 file, moved it to my Archos, but when I tried to move it to my /data/urukupdate I find that it is missing (the whole urukupdate dir is just not there). My /data is completely empty. Any ideas on how this could have been wiped out and how to restore it without having to wipe and reload everything?
If you have an empty /data directory, you bootet into the wrond android.
You booted into std Android and there you have no root, therefore you can't see anything.
Boot into Developer Edition.
You have to enable root explorer in the filexpert settings and the data folder is the one on the root and not on the storage.
EDIT : To enable root explorer in filexpert:
-Press menu key then press more
-Press settings and go to File Explorer settings
-Scroll down and check "Root Explorer" accept the root acces and you're done
Sorry for my bad english
@ fzelle Actually I uninstalled the android OS, so that I can only boot into UD.
@ Starman this worked! Thanks for your help. I usually use ES file explorer or Astro and I've never had to grant SU access manually before so hadn't thought to look. Thanks!

Deleted /system/vendor folder using ES File Manager Explorer

Hello,
I have Lenovo S720 running on Android 4.0.4 that I recently factory reset because It has only few little internal storage (~1,4 GB), and cannot support many updating apps.
After I do that, whats left in the internal storage is about 500 MB of storage, the rest being taken up by the system (I suppose).
I installed Framaroot to root the device, then System App Uninstaller (ROOT) and ES File Explorer.
First, I try to uninstall any bloatware with the System App Uninstaller -> I didn't get much free internal storage.
Then, I use ES File Explorer to seek, which folder took up the most space.
-> One of the is /system/vendor folder.
-> So, I copied that folder to /mnt/sdcard/backupsys/ (or /sdcard/backupsys/ [little bit forget]), Thinking it would come in handy later.
-> Then, I (foolishly) proceed to delete the folder using the root privileges .
-> It took a moment until all of my app start crashing (including the ES File Explorer!).
-> I turned-off the device, and now it still stuck in the (what I think as) "bootloop" mode.
Fortunately I still can communicate to the phone using adb tools, which I have a little knowledge of. But, the pm and am command cannot function well.
Now, I'm only thinking about moving back the vendor folder from /mnt/sdcard to the /system folder.
But I encounter some problem:
1) I can't (& don't know how to) write to the /system
2) I can't (& don't know how to) read from the /sdcard
- command 'ls' inside this dir returned nothing.
Glad I have the "su" tools from the Framaroot. I searched on the Internet and it seems the problem can be solved with mount tools, but I don't know how.
ls -la tools on root (/) return:
(other dir)
root /system ,,,,,,,,,,other info,,,,,,,
system /sdcard ,,,,,,,,,,other info,,,,,,,
(other dir)
So maybe because I can't gain system account, I can't access the folder and read it...
I try to hard-reset in the recovery mode, but I can't select the options! (I can move the selector with volume up/down) but I cant click it with the power button!
The phone seems to be worse every second.
My main question is: can I recover my phone (copying the vendor folder back) using command tools on my development computer? Or is there any other ways?
I'm willing to install any custom ROM best suited to my phone.
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
If you have a copy of what you deleted or can get it from somewhere and you want to adb push your missing files and folders back to your device then you need to have the files you want to push stored on your PC and push them from there to the device. For instructions on how to use adb read through the thread linked below and go from there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141817
If you have further questions or need further help with using adb then you can post in the Q&A forum linked below:

bricked galaxy s4 sch-i545 Verizon

yeah.. so bought phone from swappa a couple years ago. It had a ROM on, was rooted, but I wanted to update / install cyanogenmod and so decided to factory restore (4.2.2) and then upgrade device to lollipop. Rooted again using http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-verizon/general/root-of1-t3249971 (worked like a champ), but was having trouble with Barnacle tether app. Used this procedure: http://bbs.elephone.hk/thread-5991-1-1.html~
----
1. Download SQLite Editor from Play store – Open it and grant the root access
Go with a file root explorer into data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases. Make a copy of settings.db if you are not sure about what you are doing
Open SQLite Editor and grant the root access. Go into data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases and open settings.db and Global option
Select the "add" button and create a new pair entry
id= 108
name=tether_dun_required
value=0
Save and exit
2. Open a file explorer with root access (root explorer, ES File Explorer…). Go in /system and edit build.prop
At the end of the file, add this line:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
Save and exit
3. Shutdown your phone and restart in recovery mode, then go in Wipe/advanced and select Dalvik and Cache. Wipe this 2 files. Then reboot the phone.
-----
(made copies of db and build.prop, named with '_orig' in same (respective) directories, but reboot failed after clearing cache. Now all I can do is get into download mode. Kies says not meant for this device. repeated attempt to reload factory image using odin fail. booting into recovery mode gives message "software update failed - your device didn't update successfully. Use the Verizon Software Repair Assistant on a computer to repair your device and complete the update"
I read some things about verizon recovery app, but the download I managed to find doesn't actually install anything (yes, strange I know), and Verizon steered me toward samsung / Kies 3.
Is there a way to crack into the CLI (using adb for example) while in download mode so I can try to revert back to orig. settings.db and build.prop?
(should have left well-enough alone, pdanet was working
