Internal KNOX document confirms Android 4.4 for multiple Samsung devices
One of our trusted insiders has sent us a picture of an internal document for Samsung’s KNOX security suite, and to our delight, the document confirms that Android 4.4 KitKat will be making its way to a couple of Samsung devices. The document mentions that the Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 mini will come with KNOX pre-loaded once they’re updated to Android 4.4, a rather damning confirmation that all three devices (counting both the Mega 6.3 and 5.8) will be enjoying Google’s chocolate-flavored OS at some point of time.
Now, while the document doesn’t list flagship devices like the Galaxy S4 and Note 3 with Android 4.4, it’s pretty much a given that both devices will be updated if mid-range devices are getting the update. A Samsung rep recently confirmed that Android 4.4 would be coming to the Galaxy S3 and Note II, so there’s a fairly high chance Samsung will have many of its devices on Android 4.4 in 2014 (the Note II will surely be updated, if Samsung follows its tradition of providing at least two major upgrades to every flagship).
Our insider also mentions that KNOX will come pre-installed on all the mentioned devices after they receive the particular updates. However, Chinese variants will have only the KNOX installer pre-loaded, using which the actual files for KNOX will be downloaded, while some carrier-locked devices may hide KNOX if operators decide to opt out of offering the service.

Here the Final link. SAMmobile released it. So its finally Official. Am happy that mega will get official 4.4. But still its a mystery that "will 5.8 and 6.3 both get 4.4?"
Hopefully news will continue to spill. Still

Maybe we can think of this update as sign that Samsung is satisfied with Mega selling numbers.
Nice news indeed..and thanks for the info. :good:
Samsung never updates their phones. They just keep spitting out new ones.

Yeah I believe its something to with that and maybe flash counter ....but I might have the note 3 and our ohone mixed up

Knox is that if we ever try to unlock bootloader or try to flash or change recoveries(included in bootloader) The counter becomes 1. No matter what we do, even flashing rom via odin or even flashing Knox less roms wont change or reset the counter. This news was hinted to Chainfire by samsung themselves.

why we can't flash galaxy S4 software on Galaxy S3? I mean the official rom , and why the odin refuses the rom when I try to flash it? I know because the software is working only on S4 because the hardware like installing apple mac on PC but is their any way to make odin pass the software to S3?
I think that there's no way you can flash gs4 rom on gs3...you can only brick your phone like that.
Why don't you just root your phone and flash any custom gs4 like rom?

because I want to get the new S4 features like smart scroll , smart pause ... etc
Glamour S4 rom developer ported all the S4 smart features in his rom but nothing working yet and he said all that features will work in another fix , so why till now the S4 features don't work on S3?
That will never work because they are 2 different devices. It will lead to an expensive paperweight. Some features will come to the S3 in future updates. Some will not for two reasons. The S3s hardware doesn't support the feature (ex. Temperature sensors) or because Samsung is beginning to move on from the S3

For the same reason you cant flash the HTC one os on your s3. Its a different device with different hardware, ergo different drivers.
If they kept the same hardware, it wouldn't be an upgrade

However KNOX won't be added to the international variant of the S3. Samsung has already confirmed this a long time ago so the feature being requested by the OP is not possible.
EDIT:
It may still come in the future according to an article of sammobile.

So far the 4.3 update for the international variant of the S III does not have KNOX whereas the LTE variant have it. Same goes for the international variant of Note II. So the possibility of KNOX being included in our devices is still possible in a future update.
The Killer with Knox is no way back once the efuse is blown it cannot be repaired and warranty is void .
Thanks guys.
I dont mind about the eFuse and warranty... But i dont wanna be ocked from downgrading and using Odin

Because!! It is enough to read forum. (I do not comment 'hints' from @Frezi Evan who do not understand even what people are asking...)
You were violating producer's rules making root and you are void your warranty. Now you expect so you will have official OTA? Look in settings what is the status of your phone! It is NOT official so you can not count on official upgrades.

As I can see you solve problem all by yourself . Yes, if you are on custom then you can not take OTA. Deactivating root probably will be not enough, but you can try. If not work - then you will have to flash anew stock ROM by Odin and in this manner you will have system like new - this means all your user data will be deleted - make backup of your apps.
But in my opinion there is little need to worry about upgrades until it KitKat (that menas Android 4.4) arrive. Now Mega has Android 4.2 and every new upgrade brings very little besides new means of security (like KNOX).
So let stay like that a while and wait for major uprade to KK. And if so, let consider to flash MegaFire v8 ROM from @megalomanic14

Those two roms are for the mega 6.3 only and will not work on the mega 5.8 as you have to go by the codename for each device and this codename will be in the title of the rom.
Mega 6.3 uses the codename "melius"
Mega 5.8 uses the codename "crater"
So make sure you see one of these codenames in the rom title or on the end of title..were ever they put it as this determines the device it can be flashed on and what model will also be shown in the title.

I installed the recovery and it will not root. the custom recovery works fine but cant install the super su files needed to run super su
Im rooted got it
the phone in question is a T mobile Galaxy S5, used to be mine running full root since 4.4.4 and had cn 11 on it, now wife is useing it and she wated it stock, so I odined the latest stock t mobile 5.0 firmware onto it, since then it has updated twice to 5.1.1 as I'm not too familiar with 5.1.1 I figured I better ask if it can be rooted.
if it can it will be much appreciated, right now it has done random reboots three times so far today and she is about to go back to Applel
5.1.1 can be rooted using hispasian's kernel. It can find in the android development thread. BTW, tell your wife that Apple is tight about "rolling back" and/or if at all, to previous ios versions if the new version stinks. I was lucky to perform rollbacks on older iphone generations but the newer ones are harder for obvious reasons. I stayed on 4.4.2 because of towelroot -- I'm not too fond of 5.1.1 because of the lag and unstable root methods right now.
Any questions? Please let me know. We would wan't want your spouse to join the "dark side" we call Apple. =) <couldn't resist the star wars pun there>
Thanks I'll loom there here in a minute I want her to be an android person I like androids better because you can remove the SD card, Apple has no SD card, plus as long as it's not a s6 you can swap batteries, I usually keep two spares in my Jeep when we go looking in NC for houses just in case

Please excuse my stupidity
well in another thread i was wondering if flashing TWRP+CM still works on FOL1 & the user said yes, so.... i'm sure root is always possible, unless your question is to keep knox (you're probably out of warranty anyway)
there are modified TW roms that are prerooted if self rooting fails
random reboots with what apps installed? disable any you dont use, disable gestures, samsung crap, etc etc...

not sure what the rush is, there is no such thing as sudden updates that you cant stop, if you flash 4.4 then it's stuck on 4.4, but what if the newer baseband wont work well with the old android?
also, 4.4 is crap, you'll be insecure with fewer features & so on
i really find it unlikely that 5.1.1 is causing all problems, also you could even try 5.0.1
