I have managed to unlock my phone, but I cannot root it! I simply want to flash a ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987885
Please help me. I have rooted an HTC Vivid once before, but my knowledge on rooting is very small.
There is no need to root just to flash a custom rom, just unlock bootloader, flash a custom recovery and flash the rom. The custom rom will come with root access enabled.

1. A good way to go about rooting your phone would be to have a look around the forum, and see if any help topics have been posted. Even the most cursory look will likely get you what you seem to be looking for.
2. If you have done the above, then do tell us what you have tried, where you got to, and what error'ed out. That would help people help you.
A wrong way to go about this business would be to post a new topic in the help subforum, asking someone to help you root, without having done any of the above.

Sorry about that. I attempted to flash several ROMs and managed to somehow delete my os. I was able to restore my phone with a RUU after 12 hours of trying to bring it back lol. My phone is currently relocked. I would love to put a ROM with sense 5 on my phone, but I am worried about bricking my phone again. I tried to find threads to help me, but I for some reason was unable to find a thread that actually explained how to root, and put a custom ROM on the HTC One X+. If someone could explain step-by-step how to approach this I would very much appreciate the help.

Download and copy across a Sense 5 ROM - I use Insertcoin and its great
Just use Hasoon's toolkit to unlock your phone and flash TWRP. your old unlock.bin should work
reboot into recovery, wipe (dont format your storage), and flash the ROM
flash the boot image
Done

Download whatever recovery .img you wan't, and the custom rom.
Copy the custom rom to your internal storage.
Then just boot into fastboot and use the command "fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img" reboot into recovery and flash rom.

Hello everyone
I hope someone can help me; I've been reading some topics on here about rooting but confused whether my phone can be rooted or not as I can't still post in the development area.
I have an HTC one x+ uk sim free and would like to root it, does anyone know any good tutorial that will help me with this?
All I did at the moment is backup using the adb command line, is the backup used through that command line a full backup? I'm asking this because if something goes wrong, will that backup me fully restore the device or i need a different type of backup?
Thank you
my phone is sim freem using hasoon's toolkit, which option should I use - I believe is TWRP but confused after reading the posts

Here is a tutorial that works with HOX+ Internation version and will root your phone easily. You just need to find a ROM to flash after you followed the steps in the tutorial. Hasoon2000 even made a video to show you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
I'm aware of the video and tutoral but was confused about the option twrp etc.
I used rootboot to root it and checked with root checker,it says is rooted
How do I make full image backup,if I'm not wrong the term is called creating a rom
When I used rom manager it doesn't let me do it,it says I need clockworkmod recovery and that there's no official version for my model. What can I do now to make a rom of my phone with everything
Thanks

I believe what you said is what I did
I rooted the phone using rootbot the phone was rooted after the process as I downloaded root checker and it displayed that my phone is rooted.
How exactly would I install the clockwork recovery?
I remember using the toolkit provided in the link you gave me but after the reboot the phone shows a read triangle with an exclamation mark.
Go to this link and just install recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34173694

Thank you, my mistake was that I didn't flash recovery, sorry still not familiar with the terminology which is why many things sounds misleading to me.
After flashing with twrp recovery I did try the backup again and it worked, now I got the backup and I think that's all I need so far.
I'm good to go with installing full rom
does anyone know good roms for htc one x+ ?
Elegancia & InsertCoin & Maximus in development
I'm thinking of using the following rom
Android Revolution HD for HTC One X+
There's a topic about this rom but I didn't find any download link; can someone tell me where I can get all the roms and their links.
Also, now that I have a backup, if I install the rom and something goes wrong, by restoring the currenct image file that i've created using rom manager, will I get everything back, included settings, apps etc. right?
So I've had this phone unlocked and rooted since the day I got it. I haven't got around to flashing a custom ROM's yet because of the pain of fastboot flashing the kernel. When I had a rezound you could flash a kernel in hboot by Packaging it into a PH98IMG.ZIP. I booted into HBOOT on my one x+ it seems to be looking for a pH 63IMG.ZIP so I guess my question is is this going to be possible with this phone?

If your phone is T-Mobile branded and so is the rom (most are T-Mobile based anyway, like speed rom and android Revolution), just enable smart flash in 4ext settings and it should flash without s off. They both have to be T-Mobile branded though.
But s off is worth it you can flash any amaze rom after s off and super cid. Insulated wire works best but tape covered paperclips work too.

If it's unbranded, then he would have to S-OFF. Which is the international or "asian" amaze. I think I have a TELUS amaze but it's unbranded (it came unlocked). So basically my amaze is the wedlock orphan amaze, until I check the original CID. "Aint nobody got time fo dat!"
To the OP, if you're Amaze says T-mobile on it just turn on smartflash and you should be good! You won't be able to flash every thing like CM, or Dark Glass Mod, AOSP based roms, and other non T-mobile roms for now until you S-OFF, and supercid.
Once you do that your amaze is freeeeeee!
So one more noob question, which recovery should I have used? 4ext or twrp? From what I read originally twrp was the way to go, but upon further reading it sounds like I should have used 4ext instead. Is there really that much difference between the two?

Definitely choose 4ext. It has smartflash so you can flash ROMS without being S-OFF. This only applied to T-mobile amazes on T-mobile ROMS. But people who have the amaze are mostly non-T-mobile so it hasn't been of too much use, but it can be for you if you have a T-mobile branded Amaze. Do you have a T-mobile branded amaze? (Amaze with T-mobile stamped on the front). If you do, you can avoid the S-OFF process (it's highly recommended anyway) and flash T-mobile based Roms here. :good:
yup .
but i suggest you to perform s-off bcoz after performing s-off every thing going to be good,
, you
and if you haven't t-mobile or other , i mean if you have to asian than there is no way you must have to perform s-off.
and ya use 4ext recovey.
:good: Hit thanks if I helped you !!! :good: :good: :good:
My phone was a telus phone that I had to get unlocked. So I'm guessing that getting s-off is the only way to go. Should I use the All-in-one program to flash 4ext, or could I use Goo manager? Is there any issue flashing over twrp?

Because I try to run the ubuntu program and get as far as "booting device into junbuntu? mode" and it just sits there and does nothing.

Is her one S-off? If not, I believe you'll need to flash the bootIMG/kernel seperately thru fastboot . I'm guessing cuz I have HTC Evo LTE and it's the sane way if you're not S-off.
If you're unfamiliar, I bet there's guides stickied in general or Q&A.

You Do NOT need s-off to flash any current ROM's on the one. And you don't have to flash kernels separately like on older htc phones, so don't worry about that.

Yes if you are on the stock rom with no deleted or modified system apps, however the update will most likely break root and could result in the inability to root in the future. Usually within days of an update, someone mods the new update and posts it in the dev forum for those who are unable to update, at least that was my experience on the S3.
How to unlcok the HTC One (M8) bootloader with official HTC Dev tool
Hope to be helpfull:
