{Q] How do I Factory Restore Rooted S4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have an S4 that I am looking to sell. I rooted it using the terminal method and deleted some bloatware. How can I restore this to factory settings? Anyway I can do this without a computer?

Use this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259
Also no, you can't do it without a computer since you need to use Odin

Hello. You can always factory reset it and then root it again after if you loose root.
ok well i followed the guide to flash to factory ROM back to my phone after rooting it with EB. But when I go to phone info it still say that my Build Number is still EagleBlood 1.0. is that correct? Im trying to get my XT9 to work again but it doesnt seem like it is. Am I doing something wrong?
Hey Guy's If I reflash back to Stock Kernel then do Factory reset and reset cache will I lose Root ?
btw I'm Still running Stock Firmware if that makes any difference
Guys, just to confirm:
Factory reseting the device should not affect root as the source for this lies within the kernel you used to root in the 1st place. unless a stock kernel is installed the root will remain.

you WILL lose root if you flash a stock kernal yes. a factory reset alone will not affect the root status.

only got my SGS2 last week its my first Android so trying to learn for the future
thanks very much for the Quick Answer
All I need now is a USB JIG any recommended place to buy one from?
eBay.
Factory reset wipes the /data partition, ONLY user-modified data is erased.
All custom firmware, kernel, root access, bootloader, recovery, etc. is untouched as none of it resides in /data.
Effectively you just remove your user profile including the apps+settings for them.
So does that mean to unroot my device I will need Flash both the Kernel and Rom then use a JIG to reset Flash counter to 0?
Hello guys, this is my problem right now. I rooted using the S2 Root guide and Odin with insecured kernel. Then I did the factory reset because I thought I could fix my text msg issue. So reinstalled Titanium Backup and Root Check; I noticed that Titanium Backup said I need to root the phone. So I tried to root my phone again following with the Odin step then to S2 Root. On S2 Root part, it got stuck on the part where it say remounting something and it does nothing at all. Any of you have this issue?

[Q] Unroot and Factory Reset

I have a thunderbolt and unrooted the phone using the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310014 method. When looking at the version # on the phone all the spaces are blank. Can I do a factory reset to get to the original software, did i screw something up along the way, or do I need to root and unroot and use a different method?

Unrooting i9300 non flashed rom(4.1.1),while retaining data?

Hey I recently rooted my i9300( 4.1.1) using odin and cf-root and now I realised I never used the benefits of rooting and it seems to do me more harm than good (No offense) .I've got tons of apps installed and backuped via titanium backup and I heard your can't restore the backup once you unroot as titanium backup requires root access.
So I was wondering if its possible to unroot and without losing date or getting ota update to 4.1.2 and losing the root that way without losing data?
Kies doesn't seem to work well for updates though it seems.
Thanks
I'm curious, what's the harm the rooting caused you?
You can press Full unroot in the SU app
well harm was probably the wrong word ,it's just I messed with titanium backup and I tend to factory restore my phone a lot because it would never connect to kies . I just wanted to use stock rom because it seems to just work ,actually the whole point was because I wanted 4.1.2 without losing data and I thought it could only be done if I unrooted and use the ota update on kies.
So is there anyways to get that update while retaining root and data?

Unroot? Running NK1

S4 on Verizon running I545VRUFNK1, and rooted.
Upgrading phones, so I'd like to factory reset the S4. I've read that factory resetting a rooted phone isn't particularly safe. If that's true, then I'd like to unroot, then reset, but not sure how to unroot.
I've NK1 file (I545VRUFNK1_I545VZWFNK1_I545VRUFNK1_HOME.tar.md5) and Kies3. Just not sure how to proceed.
Found a good video that explains the process well: How to Unroot / Unbrick the Galaxy S4! - Complete Stock
Also shows how to reset the flash counter, but I didn't bother with that since the S4 is a few years old now and nobody is getting it serviced by Samsung for free.
Or just use samsung kies to go to the latest firmware and root will be gone.

How do i restore superuser and titanium backup ?

Hello ,
About a year ago i rooted my phone using kingroot , however i did not replace the kingroot su with super user app the reason for that was because i just wanted to delete some bloatware on my device and then would remove root again .
I proceeded with downloading Titanium Backup and deleted some of the bloatware among which i deleted the default email app from the phone . Not knowing how to properly remove root access from the phone i simply deleted kingroot believing that this would make me lose root access on the phone .
The problem now is that i need to restore the default email app which i previously deleted because an error message keeps popping up on my phone repeadetly ( Unfortunately , Email has stopped ) and it has gotten to the point where the phone is almost unusable . What i want to know is this :
1- Is it possible to install just the kingroot superuser or some other super user so i can use root to download titanium backup again ?
2- Will titanium backup be able to restore the default email app after i download it ?
Oh wow okay you have a few options. One is to use the SuperSUme app to replace kingroot super user with SuperSU. First, you can try downloading superSU from the play store and then titanium backup. I'm not sure if titanium backup will bring back your e-mail app or not. I guess it depends if you backed it up. When all else fails, you can use the flash fire app (given you have superSU) to flash the OF1_rooted_stock_ROM file. This will take you back to 100% stock with root. If that even fails your last option is to use ODIN on your PC to flash the stock ODIN firmware file for whatever firmware you are on. If you want to unroot, getting superSU is a must because it has an unroot option built in.
All of the files I mentioned are either found here in the forums and/or on the play store. Do note that if you're going to use flash fire, the only version you can use is version 0.53.
Lastly, I have written a guide here that may help you with rooting in the future. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...h-i545-pl1-t3846576/post77710697#post77710697

Hello and thanks for the reply , I tried getting SuperSU but it doesn't show up on my play store .
Is it possible to use Odin to flash the stock 5.0.1 ROM for my phone without the superuser and will that reset the phone and return the e-mail app ?
Also assuming this way will work where can i get Odin ?
And also will this interfere with the carrier ? Since the phone is VZW but i am using it on another carrier not in USA currently , will that make the phone unusable with other carriers or its quite unlikely ?
Thanks in advance and sorry to bother you once again ,

You will need to get the superSU apk file off the web and install it from there then. You can flash the OF1_rooted_stock_ROM file with flash fire 0.53 and that will give you 100% stock with root. You can also flash the ODIN full stock .tar file found here in the forums and that will also get you back to 100% stock.
The Verizon galaxy s4 is carrier unlocked. To use data though you have to set the correct APN settings for the network you are using. I have AT&T and have used my SIM card in my Verizon galaxy s4 before.

Actually i flashed the official OF1 firmware with odin and it restored the default apps without any problems .
I don't know if this means the phone was unrooted before but several root checkers i tried said that the phone was rooted but the superuser app was missing .
Nevertheless , i thank you for helping me out it might seem little but its thanks to you that i turned to odin and now my phone is in a perfect condition
Yep as I said you can flash the ODIN tar file for OF1 and get back to 100% stock. Good thing that did it for you. As for superSU, you can get it off chain fire website I believe.
If you ODIN back to stock, it more than likely unrooted. Odd that root checker says you're rooted. No problem, glad to help whenever I can. Happy flashing!
