Ouch, that hurts.
On the bright side though, you did get a working Ultra and (literally) not a brick , and you'll still get a respectable download speed at 40 Mbit/sec (depending on your location and carrier). On top of that, all the Ultra models are the same regardless of the radio (which isn't something we see every day), so you can still flash everything we flash. It could've been so much worse. "Oh, you bought the 3G version of it? That one isn't that popular, so too bad man, too bad." But that's not the case here, mate!

Yup.. just as I suspected. I guess for a moment there i was simply hoping i had sudden onslaught dyslexia... but like Lord said, its not a total loss.
It's still a great phone (apart from the speaker and camera; no big deal for me), and I love it. My friends call it the portable TV... 3G+ is "comparable" to 4G apparently, AND my local telecoms are still in the process of upgrading anyway... it will be 9 months or so before we got nationwide 4G coverage. By then, the Z1 Ultra will be out! Not to mention the gorgeous Sony Viao Tap 11.
I might even buy Honami, that's how much I love Sony right now. Seriously good year for them.
Thanks for cheering me up.

Hi guys
I got my Titan yesterday but only managed to have a play today.
Ive noticed mine suffers badly from the grip of death just holding the dam thing.
Am i the only one with this problem?
Grip of Death? Meaning you loose signal by holding it?
Yep hold it and say bye bye to signal.
Whoah, I was thinking of getting a Titan, more info please before I make a terrible mistake.
HAHA reminds of me Apple's response to the grip of death on the iPhone 4.
There is no grip of death... uh.. you are holding it wrong.. actually all phones do it if you hold it in a weird way.. eh.. here have a free bumper. all without an apology.
Unlucky dude.
hoping it's just an issue with your particular handset rather than the whole batch.
will you put up a review of the titan soon?
Ive tested the device with a Tmobile sim, i get the same results but no as bad as Vodafone UK.
On Vodafone it goes from H 3 bars down to G 1 bar.
On Tmobile it start off with the full 5 then drops down to 1 to 3 bars on H.
I will made a vid when i have time and post it up.
As im still waiting on my ebay case to turn up, i dont know if this will resolve the problem.
I will be contacting HTC tomorrow, to see what they have to say.
Attenuation? Yes. All of HTC's phones suffer quite a bit from it.
Nothing new to see here. Anyone who keeps up with this forum knows that HTC phones have terrible Attenuation and their phones tend to get weaker cell signal on the same carrier even compared to other phones that use similar or identical internals (as WP7 launch devices did - try an HD7S and a Focus, the Focus is stronger).
Motorola > Nokia > RIM > Samsung > * > * > HTC for good cell signal quality and strength.
I'm almost convinced it must be something to do with how they design their devices.
Mine isn't so bad. I just received it yesterday and while the radio on it doesn't beat out the focus it works well. I'm not too impressed with the supposedly infinitely better battery life though...

The issue is two-fold:
HTC phones even with equivalent Radios (which is in the SoC, BTW), have worse signal quality than phones for other manufacturers.
HTC phones suffered from Death Grip issues with the same internals when other OEMs' phones did not.
The HD7/Focus is just one example. It happens a lot in their Android phones. The HD2 had Death Grip/Weak Signal issues, as well.
It has something to do with how they design their antennas, and they don't seem to be taking a hint and trying to remedy the issue.
The bigger the phone is, the more of an issue is becomes becaue the more of your hand you have to use to reliably hold the device while talking.
Also, in low-coverage areas dropping 2-3 bars can be the difference between talking on the phone, and dropping a call. It affects data speeds a lot, as well.
As for the battery, every OEM claims infinitely better battery life just cause they added a few hundred mAh to the battery size. They just forget to mention that the increase in other specs and hardware pretty much cancels that out

Don't most phone do this to some extent, not just HTC? The DVP has it too. Even the humble Nokia E71 has to held upside down to get the best signal. The DVP is worse as it starts off with a weak radio generally even before you start to attenuate signals with your hand.
Posible fix

Hi, I was having the same issue.. and I founded the solution. The problem is with the litle contacts that have the case.. check the picture and check if all of them make the right contact.. On my phone one of the litle metal was not doing the right contact (it was down) I move it a litle up..
With this litle fix I get the reception from 2bars to 5 bars on the same place
Hope this helps

i believe all most all HTC put the attena on the low-back part. Just don't put your hand all over it and you are fine.
Iphone 4 problem happen usually because our fingers usually place right on their spot when calling.
I have absolutely no problem with mine, reception similar if not slightly better than my hd7

50% calls - other party can't hear me but I can clearly hear them.
It may be related to this or other software/hardware failure.
How come they don't test these devices?
Im almost starting to think I've been lucky with my handset.
I have none of the problems that have been posted on this forum, nor do I have this "grip of death".
Sorry to hear about all the problems, but I absolutely love my phone. The only quarrel I have is the lack of syncing of multiple google calendars and the inability of turning off autorotation.

I've got the latest version (1.09).
50% of calls (more or less) are "listen-only" (LOL but it's not funny at all @ this price level), reboot doesn't help - some calls are OK, some calls are not; in the same area (office, home) -- my SGS2 works flawlessly, very strong HSDPA signal (maximum strength)
It's random issue, probably hard to detect and fix, I'm so frustrated...

I'm going from a regular Incredible as well. I'm really partial to the Incredible's pocket-sizedness. Would love to hear some first impressions.

Got mine bright and early 9am! None of the stores in my area even knew they had it in stock. The rep I spoke to didn't even know specs, I had to teach him about the phone! lol
I have no less than 5 stores within a 10 mile radius to choose from, and the one closest to me said they have 5-6 in stock right now, so I'm hoping to God they have one left by the time I get out of work at 5:30! Otherwise I'll be calling around and crossing my fingers. I think I'll be safe though, doesn't seem to be a hugely advertised phone and from what I'm reading has been kind of on the DL, so hopefully A) Monday is a slow cell sales day and B) they don't have a ton of people looking for one. We shall see!
I sold my Charge and picked this up this morning. I'm very impressed with the screen over the Bionic!! I hated the blurring and motion issues of the Motorla's crappy screen. I'm very excited to start playing some HD movies and see how they look!

Exactly. Verzion has been promoting the sh*t out of the Razr and still is. Even on their website the good for nothing Razr takes the top slot, the Rezound is off in the backslides and that slide doesn't even say that it was released yet, it just says "more info" and you have to click to see the price and that it is in fact available for pickup.

I got mine!
Just picked mine up at VZW. I called a few days ago and had them hold one until lunch time, just in case. What I can say about it so far:
Holy smudgy fingerprints Batman! They're all over the place. Maybe the VZW girl just had oily fingers: I don't know but the entire screen was hazy when I got to my car.
When did new phones become $299 instead of $199? My total price including early upgrade fee was $288. I got some kind of discount, but still really expensive.
Was concerned about size since I'm coming from an Incredible. My DInc has a silicone case so the actual size difference isn't that bad.
Fast. Wow, it's so fast that even using it takes a gentle touch. Much more sensitive than my DInc.
No idea about the 4g service yet. Haven't run any speed tests yet, but expect ~10 or 11 Mbps on 4g.
Just say no to the up-sell.
Comes with some kind of "you have to buy our micro-USB cable" that has little rails on the bottom I couldn't get a regular one to fit, maybe I didn't try enough.
Comes with a really neat Beats Audio/Monster(?) coin purse to put the headphones in.
The store didn't have may accessories on hand. Not likely that I'd buy any from them (maybe except the special USB cable) anyway but would have been nice to compare prices/selection.
The notification bar is well done. It has two panes. One for regular notifications. Another has recent apps, data usage, and some other cool stuff.

Wife left phone unattended in a public place and someone took it. She has never even gotten a scratch on a phone before. It appears that it was turned off or sim removed. It rang a few times for her but by the time I tried "Where's My Droid" it was going to voice mail. ATT is no help and claims they can't block IMEI. She just wants to go back to her LGVu but I know she enjoyed the android. 1. any ideas on how to maybe track it/get it back? 2. Best place to get a good price on another one (used or refurbished ok)? What would be about the best price I can find? 3. I may have to JTAg my bricked Cappy for her, that's only $50. Any useful in put would be great. I know looks like we are screwed.

Anyway if you are looking for a replacement for AT&T, I would suggest to try SGSII: Skyrocket, it support 4G LTE. It will be faster than the current 4G H+.
I think you should wait for samsung galaxy s2 hd lte to come out, give your current phone to her, and get the new one.

Try Androidlost app from the market, I think it's probably the only app you can push to the phone after its lost and use the web interface to do a host of things like remotely locking and wipe SD. Plus you can make the phone scream at whoever has it, take photos and send you history of call/sms records etc.

Good question, How do I do a recovery on a phone I don't have?
I tried android lost but since the phone is off or the sim is out I can not install it.
That being said I could have used whers my droid pro to send me a text with the new number if they put a new sim card in. But I only expected to locate a misplaced phone not a stolen one.
Learn from my mistake and set up these apps on ur phone now.
No it was not locked she has always worked in a office and had gotten complacent.
What is the S2 HD LTE and when is it coming out?
We all know the S2 beats the hell out of a skyrocket.
I can't affoed over $400 for a new phone so looks like she will get my old GS or and old Iphone.
If anyone is upgrading and can work with me let me know.
Thanks again.

Not too long ago, ATT was selling SGSII refurbs for $0.01. I got one for my better half, and it's sailing along famously.
That was for $0.01 with a two year contract correct? We paid $.96 each for the two we bought, but now we are not able to upgrade again. Can't get that deal.

I really need to ask if you had any kind of app on the phone to locate it i.e. Lookout.?
This is what I am scared of happening to me, so I know there are other apps that will allow for more locating options then Lookout, the cost is worth it.
Especially if they can retrieve it. I am thinking it may be in a lost and found closet at the train or bus terminal. Or some goon has it, and sold it for drug money.. lol

I wonder when you lose a phone like that does ATT shut it down so it can't be used on their network anymore?
I guess it would still make a nice wifi mini tablet.

Also, I'm guessing there are more people returning these phones because they find it too big or they brick it or something than there are people breaking and losing them and getting replacements. So I would say you'll get a refurb that is in like new condition.

If they sign into the android market to download a app can I some how trace it to them or is that as impossible???? I hope they are stupid enough to put a sim in it and try and use it!!!
Received my N3 today. Unboxed it, removed the back, and inserted the battery. I then went online and read too many posts to count stating that the call quality is horrible and that Samsung is considering a recall. That was enough for me. I called Sprint and they reluctantly agreed to send me a return kit. Terrible. So, I packed it up and then noticed something on the floor. The stupid little plastic camera guard had fallen off the phone when I removed the back, and one of the stupid itty bitty feet had broken off. I put it back in the best I could. It's Sprint's problem now.
I'm a phone geek, but I don't think I want this phone. That plastic poc will break constantly.
Maybe the S5?

Can you link me to some of the recall stuff?

Every manufacturer has product defects, consider yourself unlucky.
I bought my Note 3 directly from a Sprint Retailer, went in and said "I'm a developer, don't **** me around" and I spent an extra hour in the store configuring my device and testing its functionality before I purchased it. Your dollar is your vote. Make it count.
How would be my life if I return every single item I own because I heard others saying bad things or complaining about it? Maybe I could living under a rock right now.
But seriously man, that is bad luck. Mine is flawless so far. I hope it stays that way, knock on wood Justin case.

I still hate the stupid camera cover which will continue to break as one swaps batteries.

Mine has been fine so far. I have had a few call issues here and there but it's not constant and not something that makes my phone unusable like some people have stated so I honestly don't think that part of it is the phone itself or Sprint. I personally think it's software related. This is a whole new device for Sprint as far as Samsung goes as well as a new OS too. Things are way different than previous Samsung devices. Not even the S4 shipped with 4.3. In a nutshell I have no complaints here and now that I am seeing some LTE popping up around places in Phoenix AZ that I spend time, I'm pretty happy with it.
I switched vocoder to 4gv and disabled EVCR B no crackling anymore... but who knows maybe my towers updated.

How did you do that BTW?
Requires MSL but you do ##3282#->Edit->Advanced change your vocoders and uncheck EVRC-B... Though now that I checked it again it switched back to EVRC and kept EVRC-B unchecked so disabling EVRC-B possibly is all you need to do but I started with switching to 4gv.

How did you get them to give it to you? What was your reasoning with them?
I had a few dropped calls and so I called sprint and talked to them for about an hour. And the supervisor assured me that in one week tops the problem would stop. They were updating the towers here and I gotta say It stopped the next day and no more problems at all. And as for a lot of people having these problems sprint is updating their entire network so there will be dropped calls and bad quality here and there. I'm glad i got a good unit I'm loving it.

I called sprint about the cracking sound was told they where updating towers and call quality would improve, I didn't believe her but I like the phone so I decided to give it some time. Two days later call quality is great.
