phone stopped media scanning - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

not sure what happened but now my phone won't recognize my ringtones or notifications or my pictures in gallery. just happened out of the blue and not sure why. all the files are still there so thats not the problem. I'm on stock rooted now. any ideas? i tried wiping, clearing cache, etc...
on a side note this happened with my pictures first, then i tried to delete media storage to see if that fixed and thats what deleted my ringtones.

[Q] Phone will not scan media on sd card?

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me fix this:
For some time I have had this issue that every time my phone locks up while taking photos or video (I often switch camera apps multiple times when taking photos) my phone reboots and no longer will scan the media card (well, I should be precise and say that a notification briefly pops up that it is scanning but it does not completely scan). It's odd because I have no problem connecting by usb, unmounting and remounting the card (I've tried this over-and-over yet when it is remounted it will still not scan), and I can open a file manager and navigate through my files and even move them but it will not let me open anything for instance music or photos (which made me question if the permissions had been changed but everything is still fully readable/writable). In the past it has fixed it by restoring from a backup (sometimes of which I have had to do several times) but this time I deleted all but one recent backup and it is not fixing the problem this time... I feel I have exhausted my options but would definetely like to avoid a total data wipe (I do have recent Titanium Backups done on all my apps and data but I would also like to avoid having to use the time to restore them and all my settings, etc. back to exactly how I had my phone configured). Also, I would appreciate a solution that does not involve hours and hours of reconfiguration and loading as I am consistently using my camera apps all the time and I am really really getting sick of rebooting, restoring, ect. over and over.
I am running MIUIwiz with ED01, OTB v1.6 and CWM 3.x although I dont think this issue necessarily has anything to do with any of these because I had the same problem on stock froyo anyway.. (if anything might it be a kernel issue?)
Thank you in advance for any input!

any ideas?
Almost sound like the SD card is corrupt but you said you can access it and move items.
If it was me, I would back it up and try a restore.

android.process.media has stopped

i'm having sporadic notification with this message "unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped".
This on a fresh install of alpha0, wiped data/factory reset, cache, dalvik. all patches/fix, gapps, gapps fix provided by cm dev are applied. This never happened on alpha 3.5.
is anyone having the same issue? whats the fix, if any?

let me guess that you have lots files either your download folder and or music/video, clear out your downloads along clearing media storage
I haven't been having it actually close but I have been having the Watchdog app report that process is using high cpu. I read an another site that going to Apps > All Apps > Media Storage and then clear any app cache or data.
It seems to have helped me so it's worth a shot to try that before doing anything more drastic.
Sup guys. Yea I had only 2gig of space left on the sdcard. I have about 1500 songs and gameloft data on it. I have no idea how much space data for webos took.
I uninstalled android, went to webos and formatted the sdcard. Reinstalled android. I have not copied my mp3 collection and games data back yet. But so far no more problems and a lot less ICS reboots. I'll copy over the games data files and music soon. I'll find out if it starts to go nuts again.
I am having the same issuer on CM9 A0.5. However, in my app manager I am having problems clearing data and cache...
It's annoying, but not a dealbreaker.
i keep getting this error as well. i've cleared the cache and i still get it, but a lot less frequently.
additionally, i'm only using 17gb (seems high, but w/e).
This might not apply to you, but I started having that same issue when I changed the dpi on the lcd from 160 to 132. When I changed it back to 160 I stopped having the media process force close on me.

interesting. i changed it to 145 (? i'll have to look when i get home to confirm).
i will say that my gf's TP is also set the same and she doesn't have those errors. however, she probably is using a lot less storage than i am.
I'm not quite sure its a storage issue. Everything was fine the past 48hrs. I didn't install anything and kept my sdcard usage under 10gig. I have a 32gig tp. And today it just started giving me the message again.
I want to test something. I'm using nova as my default home launcher. I have it packed with Widgets. I loaded the default cm9 home launcher with no Widgets. It hasent giving me that message since then. And my reboot/crash has decreased dramatically. If anyone cares to try it, maybe we might get to the bottom of this problem.
edit: damnit. spoke to soon. i change to animated wallpaper and it rebooted.

I'm keep getting same error after clear the storage.
I had this problem with .5. In settings, apps, I cleared data and force stopped download manager and media storage. That was two days ago, all good since.
remember that android now indexes the download folder apart from music video and amoung other folders, either you have a file android is parsing incorrectly or the indexing system hits a limit of how many files it can index...

Oh my god, you're so RIGHT !
That's it !
Got to clean data on media storage and downloads (with Titanium backup, it didn't wiped my downloads with the integrated android apps manager)
Thanks
I have the same problem. I'm running the latest nightly release of CM11.
It happens to me mostly when i use the camera or whatsapp.
I've barely got 10 mp3's in my media folder and the download folder is empty.
I force stopped download manager and media but it didn't help.

[Q] No photos and videos in gallery. Missing music

Hi, I'm running Android Revolution 22.1. A few days ago, my photos and music just disappeared from the gallery and music app. I did not install anything or change anything. I cleared the app cache, dalvik cache, and every single cache that has ever existed. My photos and music are still on the sdcard because I can access them using root explorer. Somehow they don't show up in the gallery/music app. I have no idea what happened. I read about finding a .nomedia file in /sdcard, but I can't find it, so I'm guessing thats not the problem. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

[Q] What happened to the music folders dammit

I just charged the phone it was out of battery, once it was done charging turned it onn, then folders are not showing, which folders exacytly, yeah the music folders, So how can they be restored as If, they are not there and the space on thedevice storage hasn't decreased. Unless the space on the device had decreaseed, then I woul'd have known the flies where deleted, but it seems the files were not, which is the music folders, If I go to factory reset will it restore the missing files, or there is another solution to this

What's the solution to solve this and the files or folders starts showing again on the phone

My phone doesn't see a lot of the media on it. (not a .nomdeia issue)

Ok, so I've been trying to sort this issue out for almost half a year now.
All of a sudden my phone just stopped being able to 'see' all the current media on it, I initially noticed this because my ringtone changed back to a standard one, when I checked the gallery it was empty.
At first I thought it was a .nomedia file hiding everything but I couldn't find any, and when I took new photos they appeared in the gallery as if everything before them had just been deleted.
I installed a different gallery app that had the option to "view hidden files" and there it all was, but the thing that puzzled me was that the new photos and videos were in the same folders as the old ones.
Even weirder anything I downloaded couldn't be seen, literally the only media the phone would see is media it created ITSELF (photos, videos, sound recordings and screenshots).
I became curious and checked the files on the PC and the main difference was that many of the media details like photo dimensions and video duration were missing on all the old non-visible media while it was present on all the new media.
I copied a few photos and videos over to the PC, let it add it's own info to the files, checked them to make sure dimensions and durations were all there, then copied them back to the phone to see if they would show up and all the information disappeared! Which explains why I can't see new files downloaded from the internet ect.
List of things I've tried:
- .nomedia files
- force stop/delete cache of gallery
- force stop/delete cache of media storage
- wipe phone cache from boot menu
- repopulate/rescan for media using a large number of app including fx, ex file explorer, media re.scan ect ect
- backed up all media onto PC and deleted from phone, then replaced from back-up
I'm honestly at a complete loss, does anyone know what could be causing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have any app locker/privacy locker apps installed?
Thanks for the reply, I had a look through and wasn't able to find anything, I never knowingly installed an app like that.
There is the standard 'private' setting on the phone but turning it on or off makes no difference.

If you know the folder where they are all saved the just check the name because maybe there can be a dot(.) Before the folder name thus making it hidden
If yes, then just rename it without the dot and your work will be done
It is also possible that the properties of the folder maybe somehow changed thus in that case, connect your device to pc and right click on the folder and goto properties. If you see 'read only' , 'hidden' etc.. Then goto advance settings and change the properties to 'full control'
Hope this helps
