Canonical is kicking off an app developer competition for Ubuntu Touch and the new Ubuntu SDK! It's a 6 week contest where you can build a new original app for Ubuntu Touch or port an exiting app from another platform. We have three Nexus 4 phones that will be given away as prizes, running Ubuntu Touch of course, and with the winning apps pre-installed on them.

Hi...you like sing with karaoke medias ,listening to your favorite track along with lyrics or watching subtitled music-videos?it being enjoyable also could be great language training and self-learning facility for non-native English speakers like me.
the most easiest to use and more reachable than others is a lyric player that someone could have quick look at it at any short free time like city-in short trips by bus , metro etc .
plus getting its media (a text formatted file) is not supposed to be a drudgery, big money-costable and needs really low web surfing skills !
lack of such good Lyric player App for android is now clearly palpable.
i have spent to much time googling it for my desired lyric app, even searched at any kind of markets and forums seeking for a complete and at least bug-free one, now got just nothing!
alright android devices have to many lyric apps but IMO none functional.sorry for this.
This is a Request page for Lyric player app compatible all Android devices and all type media players!
read it then join me to find a gracious Developer to make one.i ll also look forward to your great ideas.
(if you agreed me hit the Thank then rate it to get our flag high!)
Features requested:
1.At least .Lrc and .txt files loadable.
2.Its supposed to be a standalone app.*
3. Built-in graphical UI Lrc creator(editor).
4. Management of sorted list of loaded and associated files.
5.Ability to get media directly from local storage or search and download from internet pages or reliable online DBs.
6.Customization for screen overlying text flow**
7.Play/pause, FF/ FR gesture and buttons for text flow control(to synch with song)
8.Notification Bar trigger and shake trigger: to start, while app is ready but minimized
9.i'm still thinking ...
*so preferred because of compatibility for all players or the app could be associated with any MP with user permission.
**standard options for text: number of line per page, text size ,font, margins and dynamically auto text highlighting... also for BG: transparent/solid color or a custom image... etc.
dear Dev. if you do this for us ,i promise will follow/like/circle/thank you till im alive ...
Good lucks!

Have you started this project?
Just wondering, is the current Ubuntu Touch supporting a full desktop when connected to a monitor like through an HDMI?
I saw videos from Ubuntu on this feature and wanted to know if it working?

It's not working yet. Canonical has proven that the concept can work by its Ubuntu for Android project. After the release of version 14.04 two weeks ago, they will start work on bringing Unity 8 (the desktop environment, current desktop version is 7 while the phone version is already Unity 8) and the Mir display server to the desktop. Afterwards, it should theoretically be possible to do that stuff. Additionally, they will continue to improve their SDK for the development of Ubuntu apps which already work on all platforms (phone, tablet and desktop) and adjust to screen size.
The whole concept is what they call Convergence.

Some of their ideas for convergence are quite awesome. The recent news has been that they have stopped the Ubuntu for Android project. I have been wondering since where their views on complete integration, their "one device to rule the all" direction, is heading.

It's great on both PC and mobile. However, on mobile it still has a long way to go until it reaches the state when it can be used by the average end-user. Keep in mind that it's making progress very fast though.

My company has used it. I believe it's around $1,000 USD per license. It works well for our apps we have made. The apps are quite basic and basically present documents and record a score the user gives it.

Do you have any issue with the current ART runtime?
We haven't tried using ART with it.

If you have a chromecast using xbmc then you know what a pain it is to switch players. I've developed an app that modifies the xml for you. Run the app and select the player of your choice then xbmc will stream to it. The app is functional in its current state with a predefined set of external players. Has option to select from installed apps (not yet programmed). It's ugly as sin, not polished yet.
It's very basic now but it works for me, I wanted to see if there's a demand for such an app. I'll post the alpha app soon if it's useful to anyone else.

Only the preloaded list works currently (the populating list of apps hasn't been programmed yet). The predefined list I got from the internet so I can't guarantee all package names are correct. Let me know if you run into issues or how it's working please.

Also, I apologize for the appearance, it has no icon yet and uses a very simple layout with one button. I'm planning on creating graphics for it and a nice layout.
