Thanks I'm old school when it comes to screen protection I've only had otter box case's but this case is beautiful and I'm sold, however is the screen protection glass or plastic with the otter box the plastic Procter seems to scratch very easily

ok I know your asking for a case vote, but you need to watch this video, its nuts. Its a screen protector that is .3 mil thickness, but its amazing.

No idea yet, its on order. I'll post about it whenever I get it but it probably wont be for a couple of weeks. I wouldn't think it would effect it, but we'll see. I hope it doesnt.

UAG is pretty damn good. Hope they make a case for the note 3.

No experience with UAG but I think this may be my permanent note 3 case depending on how bulky it is. Love the look and seems to be extremely protective

Slim Armor is not that good for protection, especially drop protection. It has like no lip.
Uag is awesome and they aren't as bulky as they seem in pics. I've had one for my S3 and S4 and they do protect extremely good against drops.
Sent from Flip's Note 3

I had the UAG Scout for my Note 2. It protected my phone perfectly through multiple drops. The case never got scuffed either. It was pretty bulky though. No where near Otterbox Commuter size (which I also owned).

Now we talking that's what I need , I'm more so looking for protection from drops that cosmetic .

Only drawback is UAG won't be available for weeks to come according to their website

Otterbox or Trident would be the best for drop protection. I wouldn't consider any slimmer cases to be the "best" in drop protection. I remember watching a video where a guy just threw his iPad with Otterbox from the second story window multiple times. Nothing broke on the iPad.

I'd say the best cases will be either the Otterbox defender or the Armour version if one is made, the Seidio Rugged, or the Ballistic Maxx. All are going to be producing a case specifically designed to provide the maximum protection. I had an otterbox on the note 2 and it had been dropped numerous times down my stair and never a scratch. My wife has a Ballistic Maxx on her S3 and she is quite accident prone but her phone is unscathed. I think the Ballistic case is rated at a 15 meter drop distance. I'm not sure about the others.

I just checked otterbox and they have the email option for the Note 3. I have gotten otterbox for almost all my phones mainly for the belt clip, but I would love to see the armour series come out for this beast. I doubt considering it wasn't released for the S IV.

Best case?

I just got a GS2 and trying to decide whether or not to get a case. Do you guys suggest getting one for added protection from drops?
EDIT: Ok, clearly a case is necessary, but which one? I have an Otterbox Commuter on my iPhone and dig the feel and durability. I see many complaints about SG2 cases not fitting or not having the right holes. Which is the best case in terms of fit, durability, and feel?
I definitely would. Protects from scratches, marks, and dust. I wouldnt count on it to protect from a normal drop though. I would suggest the Otterbox Commuter (make sure its the ATT i-777 version)
It's a $500+ phone you have. If you're ok with it breaking, then go without a case.
That's not saying it will break. There are plenty of stories about how well this phone does when dropped.
But it's the same reason people wear seat belts. 99% of the time they don't do much. But that 1% when you're in an accident, you're really happy you had it on.
It only takes one bad drop to ruin your phone. And screens for samsung devices are super expensive.

Are you sure that Otterbox makes a case for the AT&T version? I checked around and only found a Commuter for International version.
I have an Otterbox Commuter now for my iPhone and love it.
They just released an att version for the otterbox commuter. I have the international and its fits flawlessly. The top Mic cut out is off but the call quality is still the same. Paid 20 bucks on Amazon for it

I just received this one and it fits flawlessly. They have 2 or 3 different colors. This one is a matte finish on the back and does not show any fingerprints and the TPU material feels great in the hand.

This is going to depend a lot on how you use your phone. I am using the casemate barely there which provides a moderate level of drop protection while maintaining the slim profile and light feel that I really love about the Galaxy phones. But when I need to travel for work I put on the Ballistic case which has huge rubber corners and feels indestructible which is nice when you are moving around a lot and adding a much greater risk of dropping your phone. The otterbox commuter is a decent case, my wife has one on her iPhone 4. It seems to be a nice middle road between something like the "barely there" and the Ballistic.
Did you drop your old phone a lot?

There is a balance between protection and bulk in cases
I don't want a case that inhibits the phone from venting heat. And I don't want one that is too bulky. I've tried a lot of different cases, and this is the one that I like best:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320771114659
Just don't drop it from too high above a floor that's too hard, and it should protect the phone OK. And at this price you can get a couple of them as spares, since they will crack occasionally.
The other thing about this case is the matte rubberized finish. Helps the phone to stay put in your pocket. It also makes the phone feel much more secure when holding it in your hand.
Here's a list of many of the available i777 cases:
http://www.traemcneely.com/2011/10/...i777-samsung-galaxy-s2-sii-cases-covers-sgs2/
The SGS ballistic case is way too big and the bumpers snag in your pocket. The case mate pop is great as long as you don't mind the shiny back scratching all to hell in two weeks. Also the grey plastic around the edge flakes off really easily. The commuter is smaller than both and likes to draw dust... The thin cases will never completely protect your phone. Always had otterbox, always will keep using otterbox.

TPU cases have a tendency to stretch if you take them on and off too much. I had one for about 2 weeks and it was already feeling loose and I was only taking it on/off about once a day.
And they attract lint like mad. The reason I was taking it off daily was to rinse it off.

35 bucks! Damn. Not any cheaper on Amazon. That's a bit too much for me.
Thanks guys for the tips. I ordered a couple cheap hard TPU cases like some recommended here to see how they are. Perhaps I'll need more protection and look into something else.
I didn't drop my old phone a lot, but I did once in a while drop it from my desk. I don't have insurance on my GS2 so I would like some protection in case it drops since the phone feels fairly fragile.
Can anyone recommend a middle of the line case between thin TPU cases and the Ballistic? I know Otterbox is along those lines but $35 is too much!

I agree with your line of reasoning here. I loved the Otterbox on my iPhone. I liked the hardness of it. My girlfriend had an Otterbox Defender and that was just too much. Did you pay $35 for the Otterbox?

maybe the case-mate pop. conflicting reports on whether it has the right holes or not. it also has the built in kickstand

oh, also, the otterbox should come down in price soon, like the intl. GS2 version has.
I have the casemate barely there and the casemate and the casemate full version. Both work great and give flexibility.

The Case-Mate Pop! is the best I've found. It is a hard plastic case that is lined on the inside with rubber for shock absorption. It also has rubber inserts on the outside along each edge. Has a very solid feel with good grip. There is also a fold out stand but I don't really use it that often. Nice feature to have though.
It does add a little to the bulk of the phone but not as much as the Otterbox or other heavy duty cases. I found it a good compromise between size and protection. I think it's well worth it for something that fits perfectly and feels really good in the hand.
All of the holes line up perfectly on this case even it's categorized under the International SII. The noise canceling mike on top is included in the microphone cutaway. No noticeable difference in signal quality or phone call quality.
Sorry, tried to post a link but I'm too new. You can go to Case-Mate's website and look under the Samsung Cases, Samsung Galaxy SII, International version.
I have the Casemate Barely There Aluminum, SGP Linear, and some mesh one I got for $3 on ebay. Out of all of these I prefer the SGP Linear. It completely protects the phone, leaving no edges exposed, feels like quality, and keeps the slim profile of the phone. I had to make a little hole for the noise cancelling mic but that was easy.

Otterbox for galaxy note?...

Any word on an otterbox for the galaxy note? Or possibly something similar with heavy duty protection (heavy duty case with holster). I'm not into flip cases, gel skins, pouches or TPU.

Lol, unbelievable @defenders for dell streak. The dell streak has a 5 inch screen so otterbox should at least consider it for the note. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I really want a defender for my note.

I'd much rather see a Ballistic or Trident case. Otterbox tends to use their best materials/factories for the iPhones.
I like the level of protection both trident and ballistic offers but they should include a clip with them

Same here. I had a Defender on my Atrix for about two weeks before I decided it was simply too bulky for everyday use. Swapped to a Seidio Active and haven't looked back. I'd love a Seidio Active for my Note. I can only imagine a Defender for the Note being slightly less bulky than a laptop bag.
I understand seidio is less bulky than otterbox, but does it offer the same level of protection? I wouldn't want to compromise thinness over it not protecting the phone from drops very well.

But they did an awesome job with the iphone 4 Defender in keeping it trim yet protective. That design, holster and all is exactly what they need to make for us.

The only decrease in protection that I could imagine would be the rubber flaps for ports and whatnot on the defender. The seido active or other cases like the speck candyshell are awesome at drop protection just like the defender. I've dropped phones in these cases before from 5-6 feet off the ground onto concrete and absolutely no harm done to the device. Unless you're big on the port coverage, I don't see why people buy the defender, as it has so much unnecessary bulk. I know you want the belt clip/holster though, so it looks like the seido active would be a good choice once they have it.

Way too big. Your strapping a giant case on a giant phone...
I've had one of these on my N2 for the last year and it has been my favorite case hands down. Probably saved the device several times.
UAG are the best cases out there. I have had several and provide great protection and the buttons are great

Love uag had one on my note 2...adds a small bit of bulk but the protection is comparable to the otterbox commuter which is typically bulkier.. I know the note is huge but I'd rather give up the sleek factor than replace a 700$ phone... I think it's the best case for size to protection ratio.... Sure otterbox defender is more durable but it turns your phone into a brick.. Love uag case just kinda wish it had a kickstand.. I'm picking this up and the seidio active along with a diztronic tpu

Also, is venting really necessary for this device?

I think it is more design than functionality especially since they include inserts to cover up the slots.
Is it me or does the side of the UAG Note 3 cover looks different?

closest case to an otterbox... or better? For a painter/carpenter

Hey,
My dad's looking to get into the smartphone game and I'm telling him to get a Note III instead of the S4, only thing is there's no otterbox out right now, anything else that might protect the phone in a heavily dusted environment (he paints and does home improvement/carpentry for new homes), I need something very durable.
He's coming from a ravine that's taken a beating for a long time, what do you guys suggest?
I need something similar too.. Rugged + Belt clip..
Only two cases I have found so far have been otterbox and seidio but neither is available yet..

Just ordered a Note 3 myself and a wireless charging receiver and a case will be the first two things I look into.
I had that one for some reason the plastic part was a little bit too sticky when you put it in your jeans you better be prepared to put in effort to get it out I'm not sure if it was because it got wet or why. But this case is good only issue with it is the home button area can get a bit annoying

Yea I seen that one but I'm in New York so there would be a major problem in fast delivery it was kind of a emergency since I bike a lot but the case is alright for the price. Not the best still waiting for a good shockproof one

Not sure this one offers as much protection as you are looking for, one reviewer says it is closer to the Otterbox commuter rather than the defender. I do like the fact that it also has covers for the ear phone and charging port, so that should be a bonus for keeping the dust/dirt out. I needed a holster case combo, and needed it quick so I ordered this one last night with express shipping. I can post an update on how it is once it is received. For the price, seems like it was worth a shot, but hopefully I won't regret it.

Since he doesn't need a belt clip, he should get a UAG case (Urban Armor Gear)! I have a UAG case for my Note 2 and love it! It is by far my favorite tough case out of all the companies who make them. I used to really like Otterbox cases, but since using a UAG case I'd never go back to an Otterbox! Otterbox offers great protection, but their style is a little plain. UAG offers protection AND style, so you get the best of both worlds. You also get a UAG screen protector with each case you order. I used their screen protector on my Note 2 and it's actually very nice, unlike Otterbox screen protectors which scratch and begin to look bad very quickly. I bought the white and black UAG for my Note 2. After many months of use, it looks just as good as the day I took it out of the box! The white has never yellowed like most white cases do, and there are no scratches on it, even after a few drops. Also, they have a lifetime warranty on their cases, so they'll replace it for free if you ever needed to for any reason. Their Note 3 case isn't available quite yet, but they'll ship in 5-7 days after you order.
EDIT : Here's the link to their Note 3 cases. They offer it in dark blue, white, orange, and black.

Out of all of those options, I think I like the UAG ones the best, they look sweet!
The only thing I'm worried about is the front not being covered up too well, might have to get him glass screen protector like mine
TechMatte makes amazing screen protectors!!! They just produced them and sent me one for testing, so I don't think they are available for sale to the general public just yet. I'll ask them and see when they'll be available. Ghost Armor is another great choice of you don't wanna wait! I've been using Ghost Armor for years, and they've been my favorite. Just recently, today actually lol, I've decided that TechMatte is now my favorite!!

oh, I used the iSmooth on my note II, liked those, but right now I'm using the Spigen glas.tr, great protector, real glass, smooth as hell and the stylus works great on it! they crack super easy is the only thing about them, but better it then my screen!
On Androidcentral.com they show the Otterbox cases for the Note 3 and have pricing as well. Both the Commuter ($41.95) and Defender ($57.95) say that they ship on 11/8. Thinnest case

I have a Spigen Neo Hybrid but I am looking for a thinner case that adds less width to the phone. Minimal protection is sufficient.
I bought a Ringke slim on ebay. Hard slim case. 9.99. I love it. Adds hardly any size to phone and its cheap

Does it comes with the hole for sling? I used to have one for my Note 2. Slim and light but minimal protection.
I have all the spigen cases for the note 3, i think the best one is the bounce, the crappiest one is the neo hybrid.
And yes the thinnest is the bounce, and the thickest is the slim armor

thinnest ive found. even thinner than the Spigen air and ringke slim
search ebay for "0.3mm note 3 case". It's basically a semi hard plastic wrap/case that is super thin and only provides scratch protection. They're dirt cheap too. like $1 each. I bought a dozen and can replace them at will.

I had these on my note 2 and they were great but I couldn't find them anywhere for my note 3... I like it with no case the best but we'll see how it goes with this one. Thanks for the link.

Too much bulk... And I've had bad experiences with bumpers messing up the signal. I don't really care about drop protection, just want to protect it from scratches and dirt.
Diztronic is the thinnest TPU I've used, it was ten bucks shipped from Amazon and fits in the holster that the Seido surface uses.

Agreed.. I've tried both caseology cases and also bear motion bumpers.. and some other ones. Diztronic by far the thinnest while still covering all sides of the phone.

Only the corners are protected and it's actually one of the lightest cases and since it's made of rubber you wont have signal interruptions. Only metal bumpers cause those.
Do any of the suggested covers and bumpers raise the back to protect the camera?

He's spot on, have them all as well. Bounce is by far the best. The tough armor is a close second. Hybrid is absolute rubbish.

I got my hybrid way back with my retail n3. Put it back on my dev edition and it doesnt add that much bulk. I like the protection and it works well with the mime screen protector.

Has anyone tried the SPIGEN Ultra Fit?
I have the feather by incipio. By far the thinnest and feels really nice.

Just got my case today and it works great just like my Note 2 did... It's nice for scratches and covers a good part of the phone. Fits nicely and adds a nice grip to it I like better than the back.
