Important SanDisk 32/64GB MicroSD Card info - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Skip to TLR if you just want the info not story and info
Okay so awhile back I posted a help thread asking why my 64gb class 10 sandisk microsd card kept dismounting / remounting. Ended up that the card wouldn't read in my phone at all but it would on my computer. I called sandisk and they said it was a Samsung problem (it's not). The Samsung representative told me that sandisk was fully aware that their 32gb / 64gb class 10 cards were malfunctioning on Galaxy S4's causing SD cards to fail, sd readers to fry, and even in extreme cases causing dead batteries/frying your phone. She gave me a direct number for sandisk that directly dealt with this issue and they will replace your card (they have limited life time warranties regardless). The new cards are fixed as it was only a certain batch of cards but if you ever had a random dismount problem or it's a reoccurring problem call sandisk to get your card replaced. Don't believe me, call bs as it wasn't a news worthy droid life or bgr post, I don't care I'm just sharing info that a Samsung representative told me and it may save someone's battery or even worse phone.

Ugh. My wife has intermittent dismount issues. PM me the number?

This was actually brought up a while ago. Your TLDR is misleading. A while ago sandisk produced a whole lot of 64GB cards prone to failure. Its not that this isn't news worthy, it is just old news. Of course it takes time for stock to clear, and you got one of the bad ones.
I still recommend Samsung UHS over a c10 sanfisk though

I hate you all for not having this post on the front page where I could've seen it before I replaced mine lol
One day it dismounted, and I didn't think anything of it. went to use it and it wouldn't work in my phone, so I put it in the computer, and it still wouldn't work. I just assumed it died on me, but maybe it has something to do with this issue. Any chance I could get that number as well? Maybe I can get another, or send this one back and get a replacement or something. It's not the money, it's just the principal of the situation.

Just call Samsung and tell them the problem (just explain what I posted here) and they'll give you the number.

Confirmed.
I went through 3 Sandisk class 10 64GB cards. They start to mount and dismount, it gradually gets worse then one day they dismount and don't come back. Can't even read them in an external reader on a PC.
When my 3rd one started doing it I just gave up and ordered a Samsung 64GB card which works perfectly. Gave the Sandisk to the wife to use in her S3, works great there.

My wife's GS4 was doing the mounting/dismounting thing with my old 32 GB SanDisk Ultra (class 10) card that worked fine in my Note 2 for a few months before I upgraded to a 64GB card, so I gave her my 32GB card. I kept it in the phone, but just manually dismounted it so she wouldn't see it anymore (good thing I got her a 32GB GS4 so she had plenty of internal storage too), but it would still occasionally freak out when she let the phone die and then booted it back up. But I just installed the 4.3 OTA update today and it seems to be functioning fine now. I haven't seen it spontaneously dismount the card at all in the past few hours and I was able to use it to store pics on from the camera. So maybe this was an issue with the GS4 and not the SD card? Like I said; it worked perfectly in my Note 2 for a few months and I tested/formatted it on my PC several times to ensure it was a good card, but her phone still freaked out with it consistently before the last update. Its only been a few hours so far though, so it could very well start wigging out again, but I'll definitely post back if it does. Also, her GS4 worked fine with some old 16GB cards that we had from previous phones too, so it seems that both the phone and the card were at fault somehow.

This happens to me all the time (I have the 32GB ultra lass 10), every time I unlock my phone it has a notification saying the SD card has been removed or improperly unmounted. I' on 4.3 and it didn't solve the issue.
I hope it's an issue with the card and not the phone, I wouldn't be able to get a replacement since rooting left me on custom status...

its the card.. it does that when they start going bad and eventually will not mount in computer either. I always keep spares around.. with 4 phones and 2 tablets.. at least one per year goes bad.

i had a the sandisk 64gb card you are talking about and it fried after about a month. sandisk was cool about it and sent me a replacement card pretty quickly. i haven't had issues with the replacement card yet.....

I think you all should knkw that the nonhlos modem files are causing this behavior. I just tried upgrading from mdk to mj7 nonhlos file and this exact behavior occured. I confirmed by going back to the mdk nonhlos and everything is fine. This is with a sandisk 64gb

I have also had this issue with my c10 sandisk 64gb. is this issue occurring with cards formatted exfat or just sandisk?

i bought mine recently and havent seen it dismounting so i guess its safe to assume im ok?

[Q] SD Card Keeps Corrupting

Well today i rebooted my phone and after it turned back on, it told me my SD card was damaged and needed reformat. I insert it into a computer and it couldn't read the card. So i reformat it.
After copying my music and maps, it corrupted twice more!
I'm trying to figure out if it's my phone or SD card dying. Been having problems with signal loss with my phone lately also [sort of confirmed to be a phone problem]
SD card is a Generic 16GB Class 2 [Came with the phone out of the box]
Thanks,

I had the same problem with a 8gb Kingston class 4 card. I couldn't trust it if my life depended on it. Bought a new card, never had a problem since. If you have any other cards laying around, try using one of those first, or maybe you can get one from a friend. If they work fine, then just buy a new card as you will know your phone is ok.
Signal loss does happen, but I don't think it would be any way related to your memory card.
Yeah i have a 8GB Lexor Class 4 card lying around, just seems like so little space. I'll try that first though. Maybe i could get Rogers to just give me a replacement SD card... yeah...
Signal loss, it just happens around once every other day, dropped calls, no service for a second or so and comes back on. Even when i just leave it on the table on speakerphone it drops [areas with decent signal]. It's not with the network, it's most likely with the phone [talked to tech support] as i think i've told you before
But yeah i know it's not related to the memory card issue, was just an actual issue with the phone -_-"

Little space or not, try it out before you purchase a 16gb or 32gb card and realize your phone is messed right?
However, I think you will find the lexor card will be ok and your phone is fine

Back Key not responding. Big retailer possibly selling 2nd hand phones as new.

Got my SGS2 one day ago and I am pretty sure i will be asking for a replacement tomorrow.
BACK KEY does not respond properly. I need to insist sometimes touching it over 20 times before it can notice it. The touch screen and the button on the left work perfectly.
I also found that the metal strip over the SIM card slot had fingerprints on it, which i think should not be the case since workers at the factory use gloves.
Another detail. Even though the box of the phone was sealed, the girl at the shop insisted on open it to make sure everything was in...
I am buying from the biggest mobile phone retailer in my country. I will be reporting further later on. I am afraid this is gonna be a long story for me .

I will try to get more evidence of their wrongdoing, when things are more clear then I will say out the name of the retailer to alert other consumers
The problem is that the Back Key responds fine during long periods. I have not yet found the circumstances that trigger the unresponsiveness.
So this is gonna be tricky to show at the shop, if I m lucky they will see immediately.
But, I keep on wondering whether it is acceptable or not that the phone had fingerprints in the SIM card slot.
The seal say "do not accept if seal is broken". it was not broken, because it was put there by the retailer

A "big retailer" has no business in providing dodgy second-hand phones.
At worst it's likely you got a phone someone had opened and tinkered with in the shop. Beyond that, the assistant could even have picked up a device which was returned by someone and by mistake assumed it was a new phone.
I also had an issue where I didn't have the microSD card in the box. Now, considering the box is sealed with the black security sticker, it would be pretty hard to get the microSD card out. I didn't check the security sticker because I was too desperate to get the phone out and start using it.
You don't have distance selling rights in this case so you have a hard task ahead of you - because you could have just returned it within 14 days had you bought it online or over the phone, now it's just your word against the retailers.
It seems that the issue comes after the screen has been on for a while. Initially i thought it only came when using the camera, or in settings, but I just now it's happened when i was browsing sms.
This is the 1st time I use samsung or Android. Is this kind of thing common?
I have contacted Samsung... the girls told me to go back to the shop (because i got the phone only 2 days ago) and that it is not normal that the phone had fingerprints in the sim card slot.

Totally correct. If you only just got it and it doesn't work, take it back to the shop and just be polite but firm. They have to replace it if you say there's a fault.
Thanks all for ur replies
Because I have never used Android before I was thinking that maybe the Back Key has a different behavior than the left key in order to prevent accidental touch.
Otherwise the phone is fine. It has the infamous yellowish left side defect, but I can live with it.
At the operator, i was told that it is common practice to open the box to check everything is in, at least for this retailer... is it really common that factory workers forget to put all the stuff in
I keep on testing and getting mad at this, before going to the shop

That's down to the supplier. That's why you'll get a phone from provider A with a 8GB card, or from provider B with a 16GB card (for example).

Yeah, I used to think it was down to the manufacturer, but when I got the HD2 I got a sleeve with it, but lots of people on xda were a bit miffed because they didn't have one. Also, SD cards ranged from 2GB to 16GB (possibly 32GB - can't remember), depending on who you got it from.
I didn't get an SD card with my SGS2 either, so I just sold my HD2 with the 2GB one that I got with it and kept the 16GB one for myself.

Just back from the shop. Their attention was excellent. The phone will be replaced as soon as they get more units.
The thing is that 2.5 weeks ago they told me sgs2 are sold out. 10 days ago in another shop of the same retailer I paid for one to pick up 10 days later (i thought because they were waiting for the new batch). But the supply of sgs2 has not yet arrived. So the phone was one of the last sgs2 they had in the whole city. This usually means more probability that the phone has some problem.
The guy at the shop told me that it is not normal that the phone had fingerprints.
Frankly, i thought this would be much more troublesome and i am now convinced that this retailer is not doing things wrong. I think I will change the name of the thread if possible to something like"when u dont get what u expected from a big retailer".
My suspicions are the product of one bad experience with their technical support. Also, I am paranoid ever since I was offered an 8gb Nokia N8 from a operator (never seen other than 16gb).
Hopefully the next batch will also come with amoled screens and samsung's renderer chip.
Try this next time if it happens again...

UPDATE
No one knows when the next batch of sgs2 will come to this EU city where they are sold out since few weeks ago.
In the meanwhile I have been using the phone and for few days I thought the problem was gone as the back key was working fine (responding as well as the left key), but then I charged the phone and for first time used it while charging. Very soon after plugging the charger, the back key was almost not responding at all.
If unresponsiveness only happened during the first minutes of the charging process, I could take it. However I first noticed the issue while in normal use.
Lately my screen is taking nearly 90% of the battery consumption (just browsing use), which could explain why the issue did not appear. But now I have just found a way to copy files to the internal card of the phone and I will be testing with hr movies.
I doubt it is just a problem on my phone, so I would appreciate that someone reports how does his back key respond during the first minutes of the charging process
Thanks

SD Card removed errors

I've been getting a lot of errors with my sd card lately, mainly the phone saying is been removed or that it has corrupted data. Anyone else getting these issues?
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I was getting those errors occasionally, then the phone got hot and the SD card fried and stopped working. That was the standard 32 GB Sandisk card. I've been through 3 of the standard SD cards on different phones with the same ending result. I'm now using the 32GB ultra card in both my S3 & S4 without any issues at all. It's worth spending the extra $10 per card.

Sandisk micro-SD cards 64Gb has compatibility problems exactly with Samsung Galaxy S4. I had to buy Transcend one. Now it works properly.
A lot of Sandisk 32 and 64Gb cards have issues with both S3's and S4's.
Apparently those manufactured after 12/2012 no longer have this issue, but theres no way to tell their manufacture date.
I use and recommend Samsung cards, and have never had any problems with them.
Yes, they cost a little more, but the stuff I keep on them is irreplaceable, and I couldnt afford to lose 1 days work.
Also I recommend installing SD card monitor from Play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sdcardmonitor
It will tell you how many times your card has unmounted erroneously.
Cheers.

samsung S3 micro card help please

hi guys me and the mrs both got Samsung s3 and with bought both 32 & 64gb micro cards to load music onto but though the music does load with in days the phone says the card is corrupt and needs formatting and so we lose all our loaded music and have to reload it all again, this is happening every few weeks or so and now becoming a real pain.
we bought the cards of ebay and are just cheap branded cards we have tried around 4 different cards now and all do the same.
do you think it may be that its just cheap cards or has anyone else had this problem of losing all the data on there cards on Samsung phones?
was thinking of buying Kingston cards but they cost loads and don't want to pay that sort of cash out if there not going to work either
any advice would be great
Thanks

Easy way to check is if the phone say's it is corrupt and needs formatting don't format it take it out plug into your pc with a sd card adapter and check the contents. If you can read and play the contents then it is the phone software that is the problem if not the cards are at fault and it would probably be a wise investment to get a better card.
Cheap sd cards on ebay are usually fakes, much smaller cards rigged to read what is printed on them.
You can download a tool on your pc to check the real capacity.

SD card keeps getting corrupted

I've lost the contents of my SD card three times now with my XT1528. I've tried two different cards (Kingston 16Gb class 6, Samsung 32Gb class 10) and yet I keep losing anything stored on my cards. Have had no problems with other handsets with these same two cards. Thanks to Verizon, my phone is bone stock. I'm thinking my handset has a bad card slot. Opinions?

I would say it's probably a bad slot. I haven't had any issues with my XT1527 with a 32GB card. I've also had the card in and out and done various custom partitions like fat32+ext4 without any data loss or corruption.

Sadly I have the Verizon variant, I'm not eligible for the unlock program. My bootloader is locked down like a prison, so TWRP isn't an option.
I'm going with the bad slot diagnosis. My handset will have to serve as is until after the holidays, then I can justify replacing it.

have you tried formatting it through system setting? setting>storage>erase sd card, it works for my 32gb strontium, in my case i think it's faulty. Don't forget to back-up your files
I had a 32gb card that was used for ages and i think it got worn out and died.
over time it would disappear on me more and more when inserted in my Moto-E.
I had pulled it from a Galaxy S3 way back..
I used to have it scanned all the time with Kaspersky..
This caused it to get read in full every single time i put it into a PC.
I am suspicious that caused excessive wear and tear on it.
bought a new one but 16gb this time and it's working fine now.
main reason i got it was to put my MP3's on the card.
My old one kept having the music vanish and a prompt would come up asking to format it or it would simply vanish.. only for it to show back up and be fine later after restarting etc.
not sure if this is the same problem as you guys but i figured hey i might as well mention my story
i got tired of trying to reformat it via different methods or using different partition types and i simply gave up tinkering with it and bought a new one.
the new on has not given me a problem once.
