RAM Status - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello everyone,
It seems on my Note 3 that when I am looking at the RAM status by long holding the home button it always shows I am using 1.88 GB out of the 2.28 GB that is available...I am not sure why its using so much. I came from the Note 2 and never had that bar even half way full. Is there something that I can do to lower this?? I have tried clearing cache and closing the active applications and it still doesnt do anything...
Thank you!!!!

Mine brings up my recent applications but I just click on the pie graph on the bottom left corner and click on ram status...from there you can clear memory to free up some ram space.
Thanks!

ram
I had the same problem with high ram usage. Go check all your sync setting especially google and run only necessary syncs. Between lookout google samsung and others it was eating up ram and battery.no need to backup contacts 3 different ways ya know. That and I stopped all unnecessary apps that came on the phone that I will never use. Google magazine books etc. Hope this helps.

Why is there only 2.28 available? That's a long way from 3gb

Mine usually floats around 1.3 used with 2.38 available. I'm assuming the reason for not showing the full 3 gb available is that the phone's OS and random Samsung stuff has that memory dedicated for it to use.

Vibrant app memory confusion

Friends
I have searched on numerous fronts but have never found the solution to my problem. The issue is, on the vibrant I have 2 GB internal memory for app installation, with 512 mb ram (I think) to run the apps, in addition to 16 GB of internal storage for files and what not.
However, having 1.4 GB 'app' memory free currently, whenever I install any further apps, some of the existing apps start to crash/restart whenever I need to use them. For example, I use LPP, and when I install some more apps on the phone, LPP homescreen icons disappear whatever action I do (open an app, use an app, etc), and then they reload for about 15-20 seconds when I go to the homescreen again. I have about 35-55 MB RAM free at any given time.
My question is, why give 2 GB app installation memory when you still cannot use it to install apps since they start giving you all sort of problems? I am running stock t-mobile eclair and have recently rooted my phone.
you know what, i think all you need is a task killer or clean your phone or something.. just find a way to free up some space.. 35-55MB is hella low.
Hmm, whats the normal free ram for stock 2.1 vibrant supposed to be? I have not tinkered around with my phone much so am wondering how it could have gotten low to that extent. All the apps that I use are also well known and from reputable developers...
Got any clues?
dunno when i was running 2.1 i was always at 80-120 free range with apps running..
try getting a task killer and kill all running apps..
also check settings > applications > running services > tap and kill processes you dont need running
This still does not answer my question about why there is 2 GB of app memory available...? regardless of RAM..?

Incase people want 2 gigs worth of apps? and if i remember right you have 16gigs storage and then 2gigs of that is partitioned for apps

Yeah, but then what about what I wrote in my first post? It does not make sense if you can 'theoretically' install 2 GB worth of apps but renders the phone useless in function?
Anyone who is actually using close to 2 GB worth of memory for apps on vibrant/Galaxy S?? Would love to hear what you have to say.

[Q] How do I find a mem leak?

Every morning when I take my photon off the charger the memory has only about 60mb free. I reboot and it goes back to 451 free. I looked at system panel app and there was no one app that had a bunch of used memory. Oh and I just did a full wipe and a brand new mr3 flash last night. Any help would be great.

Android OS does not operate in the same fashion as Windows. Do not look to free RAM as some sort of performance metric, it'll get you nowhere. This is also another reason why Automated Task Killers are horrible.
In essence, Android intentionally pre-loads apps into RAM as it sees fit. Therefore apps will kick in faster when you actually invoke them. If an active app requires more RAM, the OS will manage itself and toss out a different app as needed.

I would suggest focusing your investigation towards CPU consumption & apps that are holding wake-locks then, not necessarily RAM consumption.

Yea that's the thing when I look at system panel the country is low and spare parts doesn't work till I root. Is there any other applications that will show me wake locks?

Monitoring is your friend.
The question - How do you find a memory leak may not be the question that you are looking for.
Beknatok - answered the question correctly to what you were searching for.
There are services that start up on loading or different "Intents". These are actions that cause applications to be involved.
For example, with low storage - IMDB loads. I have no clue why, but the intent is for Low Storage condition run whatever subscribes to that intent.
If you are looking to try to find a memory leak you may have to revert to the debugger -
Try this:
Install Android SDK
Then read the link below

The OS e.g. Android and Touchwiz use up about 100mb RAM for itself leaving only 300-400mb for the user. My HTC Desire S has 768mb but really i can only use 623mb hope this helps.

Is there a way to install a mod to free up some of the RAM the OS uses? Or a lighter android that doesn't use quite as much?

I would recommend a 3rd party launcher like ADW Launcher on Android market very light weight, also a app like memory booster which frees RAM. Their are no such mods to change the file system usage as changing the amount of RAM the system needs could result in a unstable device. I have a Galaxy wifi 5.0 with 512mb RAM and the 200mb left is enough for me without lag etc. hope this helps
I recommend using Advanced Task Killer. It has a very easy interface, and frees up ram quickly.
What does it say for ram on the player.... I have seen 377... and 345.
I have 345 and Im pretty pissed about it.
I have 342mb of RAM available. But I heard that around 100+ mb are dedicated to the gpu on the galaxy s phone, and the galaxy player has the same hardware so should be the same. So I think it still has 512mb of ram, but just 342 is usable by Android.
Have a look at the output of dmesg (e.g. run the following in a terminal and copy the resultant file to your PC to view: dmesg > dmesg_output.txt) and it tells you how much memory you have and how much has been set aside. Note you will probably want to reboot before you do this as otherwise the interesting messages have scrolled out of the kernel message buffer.
I've been using an app called Fast Reboot Pro. It appears to simply close processes that are running in the background. It then shows you how much memory was was freed. I hit every so often and especially when things appear to lag. Seem to work pretty well.

Gingerbread/Samsung has it's own task manager which in turn has it's own widget which does this. No need to install an app for this
I to use fast reboot, find it much more effective than what the player comes with. I also use ram manager pro witch is a very good tool to set different ram profiles, I like "balance (more free memory)" the best. I first select my profile, then I run fast reboot, very effective! The more you run fast reboot, the more memory it frees up, witch is great for big games like asphalt 6. Also, I use zeam launcher, very lightweight, perhaps the lightest, but still a great improvement over touchwiz. Another thing, NO LIVE WALLPAPERS is an absolute necessary! These things eat WAY more ram than they say on taskmanager. THEY CAN EAT 50+ MB OF RAM!! Also, services like widgetlockscreen and such will eat your ram. If you want to play a heavy game, go to running services and kill as many as you can, you can also clear cached apps by hitting the menu button in running services. Hope these tips help you to make the most of our small supply of ram!
Hmm, after more testing, it would appear that wifi burns around 25mb of ram when on! So, if your really short on ram, just turn on airplane mode to kill all antennas. I just played modern combat 3 with 25mb free ram throughout the whole level I had 190mb free originally, that game sure eats the stuff :s The CPU rides at 1000mhz through the whole game, lol, could always use some more of that stuff! That's what oc is for

Insanely slow HC browsing experience...

You know, I really really really want to like HC on my View. I love the full pen support. I don't even mind the weird softbuttons and statusbar design that makes little sense.
But the DEAL KILLER for me is browsing. I mean, it is just nuts. I have a super fast wifi connection and I'm getting excellent signal but pages take FOREVER to load. I mean, like 10 seconds even for the most basic HTML page.
Why Android, why? What the hell did you do to HC that completely broke the browsing experience compared to GB and why didn't you ever fix it?
HC on the View = TRIPLE FACEPALM UTTER AND COMPLETE FAIL.
Mine is fine. By the way, 10 seconds?

Yeah it's crazy. Ever since I flashed back to HC browsing takes for-e-ver to load.
Mine gets like that when i have to much apps open, download a task manager and kill the apps you not using, the more RAM you got free, the smoother it will be.
Gotta love it when folks post things as if every user is having the same problem when it's clear that's not the case. I think we discussed this before, but frankly if you have so much stuff active that you have to kill apps with a 3rd task killer to get your browser to work you have bigger issues.
The built-in memory management and task killer takes care of that very well unless you have badly misbehaving apps or other abnormal problems. If everything is normal in HC or even the older GB, there should always be approx 80% of RAM used. That's normal and if you kill things, android will just fill RAM to 80% again, over and over because that's how it's memory manager works and for good reasons.
And the browser in HC works just fine if you or bad apps don't screw the system up. Do makes sure you have some free space in flash for the browser cache and clear the cache occasionally.
Try rebooting your tab

Its true that there are always certain apps open, however if you open other apps and exit, they stay open. For instance my news app takes about 100 - 200 MB of ram when its open, if i exit, it stays open and occupies that amount, kill it. its EXTRA apps that you kill.
Just because you have a certain experience, doesn't mean it applies to everyone else.

I understand where you are coming from but the Theory behind DigitalMD's post is SPOT ON, the taskiller and builtin memory management within linux should not cause you any problems, also if a single app is taking up 100 - 200 mb of RAM there is something seriously wrong. What ROM are you using and if you can, please post a link to the ROM. I will try and help you out, i do not have a view but hopefully i can fix this

my phone doesn't keep applications active

What can i do to solve that problem?
Thanks
What do you mean with that? What exactly happens when you do what? There is no description of what exactly happens
I guess it's due to low memory killer.
when i start the aplication and then press home to leave it on, after 2-3 minutes when i enter the aplication again to continue, the phone it loads from the begining like i started again
I would say this is normal, Android kicks Apps that you don`t use for some time automatically out of memory, so that you always have enough Ram left to use your current active application. Especially when you open Apps that need a lot of Ram. Android automatically will kick out Apps that are in the background except if they have an icon in the notification centre (That`s why Apps that are supposed to run in the background all have an icon in the notification area). If you want to keep Apps in memory check out the Xposed framework
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130044
I need root for this,right ?
Of course you do. You should also look at custom roms, as they're much more optimized, and that includes also more free ram. Don't expect awesome performance on pure stock rom .
So this problem os not only for my phonw ...?
Android is designed that way to take up almost all Ram available on the device because unused Ram is wasted Ram and when you are running out of memory Android begins to kick out applications that are in the background. That will happen with every Android phone. Maybe in the future when we reach 4 gb of Ram multitasking will have a Windows like feeling where you can leave a application in the background for hours and come back to it and use it as you left it.
And like JustArchi said, yes you need Root for the Xposed framework to work because it changes some stuff in some system files.
On my old wildfire s i never happenes this ... and ny free ram is around 100 mb.is ok?or is a problem with my phone?sorry for noob questios ...
Your old wildfire S was based on Android 2.x I suppose, also with lower resolution, performance etc.
It's like comparing windows 95 to windows 7, windows 95 uses less, guess why.
Actually I have about 300 free ram + zram, so it's about 500 I'd say. And yes I have a lot of apps in the background, including one game .

100 mb free RAM is normal. With Android you don't need to worry about RAM ever! The Ram management on Android is very good and it knows exactly when you need more free Ram so it will then kick out applications that are currently in the background.

Nope without Root at least to my knowledge you can't do anything and with Root Xposed Framework is the only way I know of to keep certain Apps in memory.
On the other hand I can't see any disadvantage of rooting a phone, you can always get back to pure stock.
Sorry for offtopic but look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFBOnvOR4MA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Multitasking on the stock TW based rom sucks
