I am trying to root my Galaxy S2.
So I followed instructions online, I booted in debug mode, connected the USB cable then pressed the up powerbutton to start the mode, I then opened up Odin v3 3.04 and it showed up with a device connected. I selected the correct .tar file under PDA and clicked start. It says "setup connection" and freezes at that.
I tried redoing it because it wasn't working. Eventually I decided to see if it was just the program. I opened Samsung Kies and it couldn't connect. It tried connecting for a long time and eventually just gave up.
The weird this is that when I plugin the USB cable my computer actually recognizes it as a Samsung Device because the first time I plugged it in it installed drivers automatically using Kies.
I tried using different USB ports, tried using a different cable and I tried charging it.
I couldn't tell if it was fully charged but it charged for 8 hours so I'm sure it was charged fully. Still didn't work.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling kies, now it is connecting with Odin but it wont connect with kies at all. But its now showing this error.

I rooted my vibrant some time last month. I used to one click lag fix then i flashed the bionix fusion rom. Now I wanted to get it back to stock but I can't figure out how. The nandroid backup I did before rooting my phone got screwed up I guess because I remember last time I tried to restore my original nandroid my phone kept locking up at the boot up screen.
I tried using that stock nandroid from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114then the second time it just stood at the command script to restore but it didn't do anything. I restarted my phone and now im trying to find a way to restore my phone to stock.
can anybody help me please
*btw i noticed that the link says its for BaseBand T959UVJFD but i looked at my phone and i have baseband t959uvj12
i tried the odin way also and this is what i got

try different comm port
close everything, or ever restart your pc
1. start odin
2. put your phone in download mode
3. connect your phone to the pc
4. watch if it reads the port, {in yellow}
5. load your files and flash, dont disconnect till it says passed/reset
isnt switching the comm port just using a different usb slot? no matter which one im using im still getting comm5.
*just switched to my laptop and now its using com4
now this is what i see

how long should this part take? it might have froze?
anybody have any other suggestions? its been saying file analysis for more than 5 minutes
Try this!
Open odin dont plug phone in yet
load .pit and .tar file
Make sure everything is out of your phone (battery, sd, sim)
plug phone into pc via usb
hold both volume keys and insert battery(should put you in download mode)
unplug usb from computer and plug back in(odin should recognize phone)
push start
that always works for me and if it doesnt then try to reformat your sd sometimes that works too!
trying to do the same thing and it just stays in file analysis!! how long should it be there??
i can not get my phone past Download mode after a fail in Odin
i was falling the steps in this post to get the new ED01 official froyo

thanks but that won't work because i can only boot into download mode and i try anything else all i get is the phone to pc icon
Take out your battery, unplug from pc. Ok now after you plug it back into pc press power button for a second and hold down the down volume. When you get into download make sure your pc still thinks it's connected.
This happened to me, it says it's connected to pc but really it isn't done properly.

Hi guys
sorry for a noob question. yeah I watched azrienoch's noob's video, and I SWEAR to god I've searched all over for an answer (all I got is for Fascinate/Captivate devices).
anyway, my friend begged me to root his SGSII, like I did with mine.
He had the exact kernel/baseband/android version I had when I rooted and flashed it.
I followed Chainfire's rooting guide, it took 61 minutes for the Odin to finish. then, it had a bootloop - the phone is stuck on the Samsung I9100 logo with the yellow exclamation point.
So I tried, as the guides suggest, that I will enter recovery mode - but I couldn't enter recovery mode (even when I take the battery out).
so, again as suggested, entered Download mode and tried to flash again with Odin.
but when Odin is "working", when I try to flash Lite'ning Rom, this is what I get and then it's stuck for hours:

when I try to flash the original Stock Rom, it's getting stuck on the CACHE.
right now, when I unplug the USB, the phone is stuck on this picture of a cellphone, an orange exclamation point, and a pc:
any suggestions please?
thanks in advanced,

You can still use Odin when you have that logo on the screen, but it sounds like the main EMMC flash IC has a problem, writes are taking far too long.
I think you should try a different USB port or maybe a different PC altogether, just to eliminate the PC as the issue, and I do hope you are using the Samsung USB cable to eliminate the cable as the issue

Yes sir, I am using the original Samsung cable.
I also destroyed any Kies applications from the pc's task manager before starting Odin.
what I didn't do is enabling USB debugging, since it wasn't one of the requirements of Chainfire's instructions.
Hey guys, the problem is fixed!!
I just changed the Usb port, opened Odin, and the it took exactly 2:15 minutes to flash Lite'ning Rom!!
thank you so much for the help.

* i changed the usb port .
* i tried another PC .
* am sure the USB debugging is checked .

Do you have KIES installed? If so, uninstall it but keep the drivers of samsung.
You should open odin with administration mode (right click and open with admin mode)

Hi,
I followed all of the steps in CF's post about how to root the phone.
When I put the phone into download mode, and connect the USB cable Odin doesn't recognise it.
But when my phone is normal, it comes up as COM:3
I am using the stock cable, updated version of Kies, tried both debugging on and off, and have the latest drivers.
I also switched from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 port, and same thing.
First time rooting my phone.
Help please.
Thanks
Motherboard USB port ???

Were you in downloadmode, maybe yes but just to check, when trying to flash? If so try another usb port.

I had the same issue, I got mine going but trying all usb ports at the back of my pc
Hi
I don't understand what you are trying to say, but I tried on all 4 of my usb ports and it didn't work.
I know they all work as I use a laptop and currently have a mouse, keyboard and external hdd connected
Have you try with other usb cables?
Which windows version you are running?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
I'm running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
I will get back to you when I use another cable later today.
Hi
So I tried to connect to another computer and it still doesn't work.
I also tried 2 different cables, and all the USB ports on the computer.
I also tried factory resetting the phone.
Do I need any pre-installed software on the phone itself?
I live in Australia, and bought the phone online.
I got the french version, as it came pre-installed with SFR bloatware.
Any response from your PC when you plugged in? Did your PC even try to install driver?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi,
Yes it installed the drivers, although i didn't install Kies as it wasn't my computer.
I tried with USB debugging off and on,
It must be installing a wrong driver.
Try this driver :

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
It still doesn't work.
I think I might stop trying to root my phone and wait for samsungs OTA release of 4.1
After a couple more suggestions
Try using odin 1.85

This while the phone is in normal mode.
While in download mode, Odin doesn't even recognise that the phone is connected, even though Windows makes the sound that device is connected.
Use a PC laptop has been reported multiple times with this very problem .
This while the phone is in normal mode.
............
What is normal mode ?????
Odin only works in download mode.
jje
Normal mode is when the phone is like everyday use.
Turn it on, put in sim card code, and phone is ready to use.
This is normal mode.
What I am saying is that Odin does not recognise while in download mode, but it does recognise while in 'normal' mode
Why don't you try using another PC?? It's so strange that the phone isn't detected in download mode.
I have already tried another PC, with all updated drivers.
This was an actual desktop, and i tried all USB ports and it didn't even recognise whilst in 'normal' mode.
Maybe its my phone?
Only reason I want to root my phone is because of 4.1 and to get rid of touchwiz
