how do you get that start menu thing, to the bottom left? i see alot of people with that, but it isn't always the same picture. Some are the windows symbol or something. can i have a link to a thread, or just an explanation of what it is and where i can get it? sorry, i'm really new. I also already tried searching for it, but i don't exactly know what to search. Thanks in advance.
Hmm, i can't post the picture since i'm a new user... but hopefully some of you will know what i'm talking about. its a little start menu button on the bottom left, where the softkey bar is.
bumpp: i put the link in the tags, just change ".cm" to you know what.
stock roms are windows mobile 6.5, and have the start button top left.
Many custom roms use windows mobile 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 and teh start button has been moved to bottom left.
The different icons are easily changed, but not on your stock rom.
Flash a custom if you want start at the bottom.

best thing youcan do is read. doesn't matter what the thread is called, read everything on the first few pages of this section and the general section and keep reading. things will start to sink in and become a little clearer. don't rush in just read and see what questions people ask and the answers they get. I did nothing but read for the first week.
New to this forum so apoligies if this post is in the incorrect place.
I rooted and installed CM9 last night and tried to follow the noob guide which was not that clear especially when you don't know what flash means. I know I am a real noob I ended up finding a great video by searching Samsung galaxy s2 root. Had all the links and latest version of cf root.
I have to say CM9 is what the S2 should of been like !
I have a few questions though. Sorry in advance if these are noobie questiins.
1. On stock ics for my device when i chose a picture from gallery for wallpaper it would let you choose if you wanted it in portrait or across 3 parts. Now I have a box which I have to adjust and I can never get the size correct !!!
2. How do I get a seperate picture on my lock screen.
3. How do I get camera to save to SD card , there is no option in camera settings ?? would this be because google devices have no sd slot ? is so how can i change this?
4. How do I get the cool unlock effect then after I do that get the pin option ?
5. Anyway of adjusting keyboard options like key size (way to small at the moment) and feedback as vibration is too strong at present.
6. How do I get folders in the app draw ? Can only do it on homescreen. Very annoying as could do this previously and I am ocd with these things.
7. Found that if I use the camera there is a very slight pink splodge in the center of the screen. Never had this before ?
8. No 3G but i do get the H symbol occasionallyy pop up??
9. Battery life poor and really really much worst whilst using gps.
10. gps takes at least 5 mins to get a signal on navigation / maps even when i have it fully on.
11. How can I get notification numbers on the text and email symbol on the homescreen ? beleive its on stock ics.
12. Anyone know if whilst in rom manager I can update to the latest nightly build and is this the best way to update my phone now i am on cm9 ?
13. Sometimes my homescreen swipes are inaccurate ?
14. keyboard presses sometimes dont vibrate but letter appears?
15. anyone know how to get music player to look like this. http://www.xda-developers.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/cm9-music.jpg?139d23. the cm9 one looks grey and dull and has less options.
16. my videos on my sd card wont play ??
17. lost notes which came with the s2? where can i find it ??
18. how can i get gestures like cm7
19. how can i change themes as the option seems to be unavailable in the menu e.g its there but wont let me press it ?/
Thanks in advance. I know there are lots of questions here and all the little things here won't put me off using cm9 as its sooo much better than stock !!
+1 with the inaccurate home screen swypes and also when turning a page in moon reader pro....

2. not at the moment
3. Cant at the moment (use ICS+ Camera from play store if you want that)
4. i guess you mean Faceunlock.. read the CM9 discussion thread lots of questions answered in the first post)
6. is being worked on in nova Launcher but no others at present..
7.KNOWN ISSUE for most people since the phone came out...
10. there is a GPS fix you can get but you just need to experiment with radios etc,... again search the CM9 discussion thread
11.. being worked on on various launchers not a CM9 issue (believe Nova and Apex are working on this)
19. Themes are not essential as it is only a nightly build ..
remember most of these issues are known about and are varying in importance on when they are worked on.
thanks
Thanks so much for the answers.

Let me google that for you
Google ?
No point using Google. If I had found the answer there then I would not have created the thread. I have also emailed / posted cm direct but they state they won't reply or that in so many words. I am assuming that battery life has reduced due to rom but don't know ? That's why this thread was created ?

And yet, his answer provided you with the information you needed to find out yourself.
Common cause of battery drain is wakelocks, and his provided google search linked you to a ton of threads and links which detail what to do to find out what is causing wakelocks, and how to try to prevent them from happening. That will improve battery life.
"No point in using Google".... C'mon, dude.

I've recently updated to Jesters Liquid beta rom and now to the new 2.7 version if this makes any difference. I used to have a setting on the stock rom that allowed me to view all my apps as a list instead of pages of icons. I can't find this setting now. Is this due to Nova launcher, ICS, or me just not being able to find it? I really, really prefer a list with large text, much like the manage apps list that shows up, instead of a bunch of little icons that all look similar to older eyes that also don't see colors well.
I use Go Contacts ex and it's dialer, but this seems to be the same with the stock dialer. If I program a number to speed dial that has pauses inserted int he number, the call will not go through. It worked on the stock rom, but not on the newer roms. Is there a different dialer I could try or some other setting I can use to make these numbers with the pauses work again? (that's a trick from long ago where you would insert a pause after the phone number and then another number after it, like a password or access code, so that you could get into a voicemail system, etc. by just using your speed dial)
Pop up notification from a phone call. Any way to really increase the size of the text on this? I don't have any contact pictures downloaded, so I need to be able to see the name or number of who's calling. Any suggestions?
The status bar at the very top. I think I've figured out most of the icons, but could use a little help to be sure. Left to right it looks like
Bluetooth Screen brightness Location settings? (does this turn on and off GPS or what?) Refresh (is this to turn off sync features or what does it do) Wifi, Flashlight. How did I do?
I can come up with more questions, but I'm guessing you're tired of reading by now, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
So, 24 hours, almost 200 views and not one response? I must have asked the most difficult noob questions ever, or am just so stoooopid that no one wants to waste their time with me. Wonder which one it is?
I can only help with the status bar question.....
Go to Menu.... System settings .... Interface ....... Status bar ....... Toggles....... Power widget ....... Widget button order.
From there you can see what is selected and the associated icons. I have changed the defaults, so I don't know if your guesses are correct. From the Power widget menu, choose Widget buttons to change which buttons are displayed.

I'm using Apex launcher on Liquid's pure ICS, not Nova on Jester's, but they're more alike than different and you can install Apex if Nova doesn't have this. But either way, try hitting the menu key, then Manage Apps, it should give you a list like you're looking for. Likewise, go to the App Drawer and click on Menu and it should give you the same option, or Settings -->Device -->Apps

I use the stock dialer, so I'm not sure about Go, but having used it in the past, I'm sure what you're looking for is in there. You might want to see if there's a FAQ section on their website, or go to one of the less technical forums and do a search in their apps section. Alternately, you could try DW Dialer, EX Dialer or Dialer One and see if they better meet your needs.

Try Settings --> Display -->Font Size
or
Settings -->System-->Accessibility and see if the app it suggests helps
or
search for Accessibility in the Play Store.
Also, maybe a different theme or dialer would help.

Everyone's is going to be different.
Go to
Settings -->Shortcuts-->Interface-->General and/or StatusBar. Check and uncheck stuff and see what it does. You won't break anything, though you might want to do a back up first in case you just really screw it up.

I tried it on the stock dialer too. The problem appears to be related to the stock dialer programming. I think the dialer apps I've played with somehow just piggyback off the stock dialer for function.

I haven't had much luck searching. Everything seems to be centered around a larger contact picture instead of larger text. I don't have any contact pictures in the phone, so that doesn't help me.

And just to be clear. If I select Manage Apps, a list of apps does show up like I'm wanting, but that menu is made for stopping, uninstalling, etc. I would like my app drawer button or whatever you call it to display my apps as a list when I'm looking for an app to open. I'll download Apex and give it a spin
It's an inelegant solution but maybe a good start. Download ES File explorer. That has an app manager button that lists everything in text format. Click in an app and it gives you a choice for details or open.

That kind of works. If I leave the app manager open in list view as the last thing in that app, then each time the app is opened I get a list view of apps. It requires pushing on the app and then pushing open, but at least it's a list, so I'm happy. Apex lets me move the app icon out of the way and stick the ES app in it's place, so this will work for now I think.

It's a Sense thing. I think most of what you're looking for is available stock on Sense based roms.
Someone just developed a new one based on the BAMF leak and it's pretty smooth.

I'll look, but honestly, I really don't enjoy switching to new roms. It takes me forever to get everything up and running the way I want it and to learn almost enough to function daily with it. I do like the list view though, so I'll keep an eye on reports of battery life. I did try the BAMF leak and was extremely disappointed with the battery life (running extended battery) and data drops. That was my first new rom (I originally rooted just to get rid of bloatware), and I was complaining about my dislikes on another forum when someone pointed me to Liquid's version here. I downloaded Jesters beta version and loved it compared to the BAMF leak. After having read all the internet articles, I was under the impression that the BAMF leak was the cat's meow. Now I realize those articles are about as unbiased as the national so called news.
Is Santod's new sense rom as laggy as the BAMF leak, or have they tweaked that out of it by now.

Almost no comparison to BAMF. Much smoother. Honestly, not as smooth as Liquid/Jester but data/signal seems more stable and almist everything works.
If visual stuff, contrast and ease if use are issues for you, it's worth a spin. I'm also running Apex. I don't know if that contributes to lag over the native Sense, but it has the features I want.
Yeah, switching toms is a royal pain, but you do what ya gotta do.

Hi guys,
Read the recent news about CM14 being available for i9300. Amazed, I thought I'd have a look.
Noticed that it was only currently in BETA so opted for CM13 instead (Marshmallow).
As impressive as it is, that Marshmallow can run on an SIII, IMO... it is quick enough moving through homescreens, but when it comes to launching apps, it was taking roughly 5 seconds for a typical app.
More resource-hungry apps like Skype (always a slow starter), or Chrome, took about 8 seconds. I decided to revert back to my tried and trusted CM11.
Installed it, and it's looking a bit different to how I rememer, I might now being a slightly newer build than before, and some changes are welcome (app drawer icons stacked vertically, rather than swiping left-right through screens). It also looks a little marshmallowish in my opinon. All good!
However, I'm looking for a feature I truly miss: in my old KK, I used to be able to longpress on any screen, and click a 'HOME' icon to make that the sticky home screen. (hardware home button takes you to this screen).
my question: --------------- is this feature missing, along with the other cosmetic differences I mentioned, because of the newer build. Or is it maybe that I'm using a newer version of Gapps? (Im now using OpenGapps). When I browsed to the OpenGapps homepage it default selected OGapps 4.4 ARM. ---I would have thought that the 'sticky home' button I'm talking about would be more to do with the Launcher than Gapps?
Cheers if you can help

Can't help you with that, except to use an alternative launcher.
But besides, I think that's the wrong section for your question cuz this is the Developer Forum.
There is a Thread for cm11. I advice you to post your question there.
Good luck
I'm using Oppo F1s running on ColorOS (android 5) with 3GB RAM. The ColorOS is very different from the others, although I allow my app (iWown Fit to control iWown Smartband) to notificate, but it always be closed from running background.
So I ask if there is anyway to keep the app running background (just 1 app that I need, not at all)
