Phone was HTC-Dev unlocked, stock rooted and moonshine S-OFF. Reverted back to stock recovery and took the OTA update. Now under Settings->About->Tell HTC and error reporting the phone says that it's a test device. Has anyone else seen this? Is it something I should be worried about?
I've seen that before on HTC Dev unlocked devices. Nothing to be concerned with, really.

Anyone who unlocks their bootloader will say this. I have seen in other post (the Splashscreens post) that even with custom splashscreens it still shows this and they suspect (maybe confirmed) it is in the HBoot that shows it so they don't know if they'll be able to rid of it or not...
aight cool thats what i was thinking.. just never saw it on my og evo 4g or my evo 3d before.. so i was like wtf!!?? thanks for getin back fellas
Curiosity has got me. Has anyone tried to ruu back to the pre OTA evo build?

I wonder if it would put the old bootloader back on...I'm new to HTC and not sure entire what all the ruu does.
I want to try bit don't have anywhere to run linux to unbrick.

No, the RUU will not work.
But you could flash a rom that's built on the old base.

Perfect...thanks for the couple tips. Still learning the htc way of doing things.

I just picked up a used Evo LTE and its been rooted but not unlocked or a custom recovery put on it. The texting on it doesn't work at all. I can't receive text or send texts. I've tried handcent etc and nothing works. My question is.... should I unroot it, remove busybox etc and bring it to sprint? Or does this sound ROM related and unlock it, twrp it and flash a stock rooted ROM? I would much rather save the trip to Sprint but if this is a common problem I will. I've been with Verizon for a while now and haven't been up to date with you guys in a while .
Btw. This forum looks almost identical to the 3D forums and its great to see all the familiar names! Hope everyone is doing well!
Thanks,
Chef
PS. I've updated the PRL and phone calls work fine. This is my wife's Evo also.
Edit. I've also factory reset it and tried every trick that I'm aware of besides flashing a new ROM.

Hey Chef!
If you can make calls but still not receiving sms I would say that you have a radio issue of some sort.
I know some ppl in the forums are blaming the sprint tower upgrades for some of their issues.
Sounds like txt do come thru for some but only when they are in the middle of a call.
I would return the phone to Sprint if it were me, but thats just my nickle minus 3.
Call Sprint and have them re-provision your data. Several people have had to do this. Oh, and if you haven't taken the OTA yet don't. The latest OTA can't do S-off yet.
Thanks for the advice fellas! That's the way I was leaning since its never been s-offed. I was just hoping it was something I could fix (I love getting under the hood and getting my hands dirty) but if its a non ROM issue I'll just take it to sprint and play dumb.
Off to find an unroot method

What's the ROM you're running? Sounds like a hardware issue, however. I would RUU it, bring it back to stock, and get a new handset.

Hey does anyone know of a method that gives soff for the dna? You guys unlocking using the unlock bootloader site do realize that there are methods better than that on other similar devices. When i got my evo lte i used a method that gave root and soff and i never unlocked anything. Think im gonna wait a few and give it time.

obviously s-off is preferable to dev unlock
however, in lieu of no current s-off method, dev unlock is better than nothing
They will find one. They always do.

Has it been confirmed that the DNA will be unlockable on HTCdev? It's up to the carrier and after what VZW pulled with the SGS3 it'll be interesting to see their approach to voluntarily allowing the DNA to be unlocked. It'll be equally interesting to see their approach to warranty service if they do allow it to be unlocked. The One XL folks lucked out and were able to get S-OFF themselves. The equally bright devs on the One X forum haven't had the same luck and it wasn't for lack of trying.

I dev unlocked my rezound and had no problems getting a replacement when memory failed. I think they threaten it, but verizon doesn't care for exchanges. HTC though, might.
I don't know actually. I might get this phone.

One xl does not have s-off. In fact, no modern HTC phones withOUT sdcard have soff yet.
