[Q] Charging notification sound after Amber update - Nokia Lumia 920

After the Amber update both my phone and my wife's phone randomly will play the "charging" notification sound when sitting on the wireless charging pad. The screen also lights up. This is annoying in the middle of the night. Is anyone else seeing this?

The new update changed the sensitivity to the position that the phone is on the charger. It has to be dead center now or it will not link right.By dead center I mean equal amounts of the phone overhang front and back.

I was very careful to place the phone centered on the pad and it still does it. Do you have a link to an article about this change?

No just from my own experience. Mine did it at first but I noticed I had not centered it. After centering it, it quit. I also noticed it now chimes or makes a notice when it reached full charge. No way to disable from what I see.

I've noticed that the wireless charging will eventually stop (seemingly after the phone is fully charged and has been sitting on the charger for a while) and the phone will power itself from the battery. So, for example, if it were to reach full charge during the night, in the morning it may be at 90% even though it's still sitting on the charger. Has anyone else noticed this?

I only had this issue with a third party charger. When using the nokia charging plate, this issue does not arise. I can see no battery drain in the battery app for the time periods in which the phone was on the nokia charging plate.

I see this with Nokia chargers. Both the charging plate and the JBL PowerUp speaker.

Still happening

My phone continues to play the notification sound and turn on the screen several times during the night. I am wondering if it is chiming when it reaches 100% and then it stops charging, looses some charge, turns back on and then chimes at 100% again. I checked the phone and it was quite hot. This is annoying and I now have set it to vibrate so it doesn't wake me up. Nokia/Microsoft needs to fix this.

Mine was doing that but if I place it on the charger so that the bottom edge with the speakers line up with the same edge of the charger end with the LED then the phone will stay quite all night. I really think the new update raised/lowered the sensitivity of the proximity/nfc sensor in the phone.

Had this today.. My middle battery contact was bent so i guess it wasn't contacting properely..
Took battery out, straightened pin and all is ok again....
Hope your is the same as it's easily sorted..
Yea, that basically means the phone can't charge. Be it because the battery has overheated, its a different battery, a contact is bent or dirty, or anything. It is related to not being able to charge the battery though.
i got this last night for the first time. my phone wasn't hot and never dropped or bumped. i just rebooted the phone and it didn't flash anymore...

oh! thats sound scary...
happened to me a few days ago i left it in my car for a bit it got hot so i figured thats what it was
battery got fried? or just dirty battery connection needs a contact cleaner?
This happened to me once, after "playing" a lot with Igo, the battery was extremly hot; so i cooled it down in the car putting my leo directly in front of the A/C exit, as it cooled down it stopped the blinking.
Had this happen to me a few days ago, noticed 2 things.
1) 2 pins on my battery connector were bent - attempted to realign them.
2) CPU was overheating while running multiple apps AND charging at the same time; seems to be a bad combo in the summertime...I could barely touch the back of my phone it was so hot.
I'd suggest that if you're running a lot of apps and/or charging the HD2 that you take off the silicone cover it came with (if you have it on). Even the fastest processor will get completely fried if it overheats, and I certainly don't see a fan running on the HD2
I've yet to have the LED flash at me again, but I can almost guarantee that these LEDs are flashing because of overheating or a bad connection.
Best of luck.

Same with my HD2. Had it twice this week running Navigon, Screen was set to bright, bluetooth on and phone was charging. Weather was hot, above 30 C and sun was shining from the rear directly to the PDA. And not to forget: My car is a convertible.. Phone was very hot and rebooted several times until I recognized the overheating. LED was flashing red and green. Does anybody know an app to control CPU temperatur or to 'underclock' CPU of the HD2?
I had the same issue today!
I believe it was because of the heat too.

Thanks great tool!
if you experience overheating, could you have a look here? I created a new thread to do some temperature monitoring:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=716288
I just had the same thing red green blinking. it was due to overheat. was sharing internet to my computer and it got very hot, now I put my phone top of antec twelve hundred's 20cm fan and it stopped blinking and got cool
And thank you for the answer why it was doing that because I got scared when it did that
I think it is battery issue, I experienced this once during USB connection with desktop(and several times with Touch Pro in car). These Li-Ion batteries have a circuit, which prevents charging when temperature rises above certain value. As mentioned in posts above, you can see this in summer, using navigation in car while plugged in to 12V. It is a normal operation of battery, preventing it from destruction from overheating. Simple solution is to have it cool down for a while.
Don't know how CPU usage relates with this(maybe the device takes more power from charger), but at least CPU generates also some temp, which warms the battery from outside...
I can always reproduce this error by uncharging the battery until the phone dies in android and then, start the phone and directly after that insert the charging cable.
I have no idea what this means but this is how I can reproduce it.
(If anyone wonders why I always uncharge it until it dies in android, it is because of some weird reason android doesn't show battery status correctly and dies around 10%)
Htc hd2 blinking red and green?
Hi everyone, a couple of this to possibly cloud the issue:
1/ I'd noticed bent connector pins quite soon after I'd received my HD2 - Figured they were supposed to be that way?!
2/ The LED/ Charging issue has, for me, started only recently. Even when the handset is cool (under 25c), no apps are running and the battery has 85% capacity remaining.
3/ Same issue on both of my batteries.
Stumped!
Even stranger......
If I remove the sim and charge while powered off - no problem. Turn it on? Flashing O&G LED again.

I just experienced the very same when my HD2 died while running Android:
I was checking the battery level - 13% - and suddenly the screen went black and I couldn't swich the device on again.
I plugged the cable in and it began to charge. I immediately switched the device on to see if it's ok and while booting and even inside WM the indicator was blinking orange and green until Android was running again - then it was only glowing orange and charging fine.
After 3(!) Hard resets the problem disappeared?
These were over a week so battery or software issue I can't say.

Major battery woes...

So I am on my second battery right now. The first one just decided it shouldnt turn on. I could plug the charger in and the notification light wouldnt turn on, pull the battery and it would. Well, now my second battery is doing the samething. I had left it on the charger while I was outside doing stuff, came in in the afternoon, dead phone. Pulled and replaced battery a few times, phone still wouldnt turn on. Then I plugged in the charger and no notification light would come on. So I finally pulled the battery and with the battery out I plugged in the charger and then the notification light would come on. What the hell is going on here?
Anyone else have these problems? Now I have to drive 30+ miles one way to my nearest Verizon store to replace this damn thing and I am not happy about this one bit. Anyone on here have any suggestions for me?

If you bought it from Verizon and not second hand, then you have 1 year warranty. I suggest you call Verizon's customer service and speak with them and get a replacement sent. I've done this multiple times with just about every phone I've had. 1800-922-0804 is what I dial. to get to them, press 0, then press 0 again, and it will ask for your account password, then a rep will get on the phone.
best of luck.
If the phone is older than 30 days, or maybe it's 14 now with Verizon, they give you a refurbished phone, if you are over that period and went to the store I'm pretty positives all they would do is order you the replacement refurb phone. 30+ miles each way is a hike, save the gas money

Just had my Rezound battery die last night. It was freezing outside and my battery was at 1%. The screen just went blank. When I got home, plugged in the charger. The notification led came on for 3 seconds then went back off again. Tried several chargers I had and pulling the battery and plugging it in.
Weird.
Verizon has the 14 day return/exchange policy now. I was at 12 days so I just went in and they replaced the battery with a brand new one from a Rezound box. I assume they will send that unit back RMA. My phone works now.
You're not the only person having battery death issues. Not sure why this is a problem on the Rezound. I recently purchased an extended battery ironically. It will be arriving tomorrow.
Here's to hoping that it won't die. I should buy some spares just in case. Make sure you call customer service and report the issue. It is tracked.
I was also having an issue charging from a dead battery (would charge just fine otherwise). The charging indicator would not stay lit, but after giving it 10 minutes or so, repeated attempts to power on would eventually work and then it would charge normally.
Had this happen several times and then reflashed the stock image. Seems to be working as it should now. However, when I got my phone it had a dead battery it wouldn't charge. So we'll see what happens.
Note: was running Senseless 1.0 and de-bloated. Stock rom kernel. If it matters....I probably didn't get a clean install when doing it all.
Rezound has a known issue that if the battery dies to far you'll need something else to charge the battery. Some people have used their old thunderbolts to give it a pre charge, buy the stand alone charger from Verizon. Or just don't let your phone discharge tthat far.

Good to know - is that all or most Rezounds? Because I wonder if I should swap mine while I still can.
Like I said, I was having that issue and after flashing the stock RUU (updated one, .6) my phone is charging a dead battery just fine (2 for 2 so far, fingers crossed).
Actually brand new in the store mine had a dead battery and it would not charge, so they gave me a new battery. Perhaps there was a fix in that updated RUU. It's just a suggestion - after I confirm this works consistently I'll see what happens with some other roms.
Alternatively, it's also possible the stock RUU doesn't let you drain the battery as far as the roms do. I was able to power back on several times until it finally wouldn't (and no led flashing at that point), but now it charges from there.
Yea, I woke up one morning and my phone was deader than a door nail. Popped on the charger and no notification light, called Verizon to whine and prepared to stop by the store to get a replacment battery. However just for kicks I plug the phone back on the charger (ok my laptop) and after 1/2 hour the notification light popped back on and the battery started to charge. Now Prior I was having a high rate of discharged getting about 2 hours of use and 5 on standby (airplane on, WiFi and Data off) and still having the high rate of discharge. I started to investigate why the phone was getting hot and discharging so fast. Now I couldn't fine the culprit (I think WIFI was the cause) but I just did a factory reset, reloaded my rom and kernal and poof, everything return to normal including much longer discharge rates and I'm much happier now (Adult Beverages and household chemicals indigestation).
If you go to HTC's website it actually has a faq on this. Their response goes pretty much like this. If you drain your battery till the phone shuts off, plug your phone in. It will flash the notification light then there will be no charging light. The light could take 20 minutes or more to turn on. I also had this problem like you guys but just put it on charge over night and it will be fine. Just don't kill it to 0 anymore.
Found the Quote: My phone won’t power on. What can I do? close
If your phone will not power on, your battery may be drained or not seated correctly.
Tips:
If the battery is completely dead, the phone will need to charge for a few minutes and then should power on once this happens. When plugging the phone into the charging, the notification light may not light up immediately as the battery is completely dead. Let it charge for about 20 minutes before trying to power on.
Make sure you are using the AC charger that was supplied with your phone

battery discharges while plugged in and using it
ok, so this happened with the stock rom, and two other roms i had.
What would happen is if you plug the phone in, and use it, you would expect it to charge while you are using it. It did on my dinc. it actually discharges while you use it and it is plugged into the supplied charger.
This is not a good thing. I am wondering if anyone else is having a similar experience.
One interesting side note.
I installed rezrom recently, and after the initial install i didn't experience this problem and got a 24 hour charge out of the battery. Now on my second charge only lasted 7 hours, and i get that drain while plugged in again.
Are you using the stock charger or a different one? You might not be charging at 1amp.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
I am using the stock charger. I have two actually, one from my dinc, which also supply 1 amp of power
That's really crappy and definitely an issue they need to address. My Rezound sucks on the battery like a wine-o on a Friday night, but it's never gotten to the point of blacking out.
I am just interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue of it being plugged in and not charging when u surf the net, but actually discharges.
The whole issue of it not powering up for 15 minutes after it dies is a bunch of crap too. my dinc does not do this, and god forbid that my phone dies in an emergency situation and i need to get a hold of someone fast!
oh i forgot to add that i called VZW and complained about this, and they going to send a new battery. Something tells me this won't resolve this issue though

Repeated Battery Full Notifications

I plug my phone in before going to sleep and when the battery is fully charged the "Battery Full" Notification sounds. The problem is it repeats every 1 - 2 minutes. I have tried everything I can think of to stop it. I need to leave my phone on at night for work purposes so shutting it off or putting it in silent mode is not an option.
My wife has the same phone and hers doesn't repeat the notification.
Any thoughts?

Have you tried to see if its because your cable might be faulty? Faulty as in it gives charge on and off so the notification shows up every minute or so because it thinks you just plugged it in again.

No but I am using a longer after market cable. I will swap tonight and see what happens. Thanks!
I've had my G3 since the 11th release date and had same issue that day, next day and not again till yesterday. No idea what I did different to have it happen again. I'm using stock charger and cable it came with. It's on charge every night. The message and notification seem to me to be intermittent as I havent identified anything that would explain the gap in that issue from day two to just yesterday...
I also noticed certain notifications play both through headphones AND the phone speaker even when phones are connected but apparently that's an android known bug.
It maybe a faulty safety feature that's supposed to prolong the life of your battery. It's not good for your battery to set at 100% for long periods of time so some roms stop charging for a short period of time so battery can drain slightly to prevent damage. You may also have a faulty charging block, switch it out and see what happens. Also really long USB cables are a no-no because it can deteriorate the signal and cause voltage to drop.

It was in fact the charger from my HTC One that I was using. I guess that plus the extra long aftermarket cable caused the issue...

[Q] Wireless charging battery notifications

I have Tylt wireless charger and AT&T Samsung Edge,
my problem is that when my phone reaches full charge in the middle of the night it emits audio notification on full charge and turns on screen, then it turns screen off, in a few minutes, when phone reaches 99% it pops wireless charging audio notification and turns screen back on, in a min screen turns off only to come back on when it is fully charged, all of that repeats until I am awake and take it off the charger, and if it is in the middle of the night, by the morning it is not a full charge again, any way to turn all of that nonsense off?
I Have the exact same issue. Would love a solution to it.
No such issues here with the official Samsung charger.
Sent from my SM-G925P using Tapatalk
With the official Samsung charger (and another charger that I have), what I find is that it will charge fully by, say midnight or 1, and then just stop charging. By morning it has been not charging for 4-6 hours, and is no longer fully charged for the start of my day. Going to start plugging it into the charger at night instead, as this results in a full charge in the morning.
Uggghhhh
Glad to hear another useless "feature" of this phone! Now I can't use the wireless charging. Boy, they sell us on the 9th and 10th wonders of the world...Fast Charging (which fries the phone) and Wireless Charging (which keeps you up all night, or doesn't give you a full charge otherwise). Let's see now...that makes about 2053 problems so far with this thing....:silly:
mine charges until reaches 100% and stay green so it still passes energy and stays there until morning with 100% and dont turn on the screen to let me know its fully charged.i dont know make yours do that.

most of my TW roms that did wireless seemed to do this. I know there is a .Ogg file that you can delete to stop the beeping. BUT needs to be rooted.
I am going to hold off on rooting for a while as my 925i lets me deblote most of the stuff without. I just want to root without setting off KNOX. I'll give it a few more weeks.
you do know that even its not out yet, when you root youre phone you loose samsung Pay. i know its not out yet but will be a feature that i will be using.

Possible S9+ Charging Issue??

Brought my unlocked S9+ home from BestBuy Friday (the first day they became available in the US). I successfully charged it up a couple times with the provided Samsung quick charger (wired) and a cheap wireless charger I grabbed at Walmart. However last night, having the phone on the charging stand I noticed the phone's red LED remained on too long even though the charging stand light indicated it was charging the phone. Finally early this morning I checked the battery level and it had gone down. The phone was not charging. I plugged the phone into the Samsung charger for the rest of the morning. After an hour or so I checked again and the level had drop a few more percentage points! WTF?? Anyway I shut down the phone and then tried again with the wired quick charger. This time it charged fine.
I wonder if this is a pending future problem. To be honest I was watching a YouTube tutorial last night on how to bring up the diagnostic screen (using a series of phone pad key presses). I wonder if that messed with the phone somehow (I did not knowingly make any changes. Just tried some of the "tests").
Anyway, hopefully this was just a one time issue...... If not, I'll report back.
I haven't noticed any issues. Maybe it was just a one off. The only thing that will truly tell is time I guess
what temperature had the battery?
Above 45°C?
I've had this issue. I caught it when the charging failed -- had an error about CPU being too high/hot. It would not charge until I re-sat the device on the wireless charger.

I did not notice an error message. By "re-setting" the phone on the charger do you mean moving it around?
i have this same issues. It says Fast Charging, But battery level gone down. Any one notice, Its simply say Fast Charging. But whenever its says Fast Charging and in Bracket (Its says how much time it take to complete) in that time charging works fine. I think its a software issue. Because i tried click Fast Charging turned off and on again.....then charging works fine. Some way in Software blocking this. I hope so.
