My i9300 has ongoing SDS symptoms, which have been showing for over a week now.
eMMC Brickbug Check reports:
Code:
YES. Insane chip.
Last night I formatted everything completely in CWM, the internal memory, internal SD card and external SD card.
I wiped all caches, then updated CWM via ROM Manager.
I then flashed:
Code:
Slim-i9300-4.3.build.1-OFFICIAL-878
Code:
Slim_minimal_gapps.4.3.build.1.x
And all seemed fine for 10 hours, until I started adding my apps back one by one and now I have had two full freezes in the last ten minutes.
My cat /proc/version output is:
Code:
Linux version 3.0.80+ ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.7.3 20130328 (prerelease) (crosstool -NG linaro-1.13.1-4.7-2013 04-20130415 - Linaro GCC 2013.04) ) #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 14 00:30:26 CEST 2013
SW Version: XXUFME7
Have I missed something? My Kernel and ROM are both SDS safe aren't they?
The freezes are NOT sds symptoms. They are a side effect of the sds FIX. Please read the unusual freezing thread in general for ideas on what you can do

Thank you.
So is my combination of ROM/kernel etc. correct to avoid SDS?
I'm running DFG again now, to see if that prevents the freezes.
Yes. Everything released since January is safe

I'm still experiencing freezes. About two a day.
I've run DFG multiple times until internal storage is full. Is there anything else to do?

Dont use rom manager .
From what I understand freezes are where the emmc chip encounters bad memory blocks, leave it until the freeze stops and it should get better as it learns to avoid them.
Nothing you can do unless you replace the motherboard.
Edit: I think keeping internal storage empty will help reduce freezes, direct all apps to use external sd card.

Thanks Boom.
I'll leave it on freezes for a little longer. But this frankly a joke. Samsung have lost any future business from me.

you can try check ur memory block using emmc brickbug check app...
Thanks, I have scanned using emmc and it finds no problems.
I now get between 2-4 freezes per day which last up to 24 minutes.
This is infuriating, can anyone give me a solid solution? Are there exact instructions for DFG?

It seems to be caused by kiesexe binary.
I'm not sure, still testing, but killing the process and it's zombies seem to free up memory, phone got usable again. Kies will not work until reboot.
Can you also test.
Process list before kill attached.
ADD:
I've not used Kies since phone boot and don't know why it has so many zombie children.
Rooting/busybix or ROM issue ?

I read about this here.
And came to the Q&A forum to ask how to fix this.
I am a noob, I only rooted my device for tethering and removing bloatware so the ROM stuff is new to me. (but after lurking, I am very interested, I have a feeling I may be spending a lot of time here in the future)
I have uninstalled kies with ti and I have been getting an ~50mb/hr memory leak.
Can someone explain, in a way an uninitiated person can understand, how to kill the processes and zombies as the op suggests and/or what to do with the file the op of my linked thread provides?
Thanks, and sorry in advance if this is a stupid question.
Edit: I figured it out. Any other noobs out there with the same question. Just boot in recovery mode, like you did to root: voulme-up, home, and power at the same time, and install the zip file from sd card the same as you installed CWM.
Hey,
Ive had an S2 for a little while now. I have rooted and flashed several different roms and tried everything from changing settings to flashing stock firmware and wiping the handset to try and get rid of this problem..
Currently on:
4.1.2 JZO54K.I9100XWLSD
siyah-s2-v6.0b4+
BetterBatteryStats shows:
0% Deep Sleep
~40% suspend_backoff
~20% l2_hsic
~20% sec-battery-monitor
(and some other tiny, irrelevant wakelocks)
I have been trying to go through dmesg but I have no idea how to read it properly and I havn't been able to find much info on the subject.
I would be grateful if someone could have a quick look to see if they can identify a problem.
DMESG: attached
..from what I can tell, my cpu1 is constantly turning off and on.
Any ideas anyone? :crying:
1st way, pull out the battery and wait for 1 min, Then put it back. If it does not work, try the second method.
Wipe everything, data, cache, format system and flash a stock-like rom like Omega v23. I suggest you to backup everything on your phone and format your external and internal sd's with recovery. Your faulty musics can even cause media server to work all the time.

Just recently I have tried wiping everything and flashed the official stock rom for my network from samfirmware, would Omega v23 make any difference?
I removed the external sd card..
I have tried formatting internal sd card in recovery, getting mounting errors followed by "skipping format", also tried formatting in plain old settings->storage, which doesn't seem to remove any data.
* I have manually deleted everything from internal sdcard.

I have tried various roms/kernels, stock and custom, so I don't believe thats the problem.
I think your problem is about hardware, but how can you explain this to the warratry.
--Hi, my phone does not go to deep sleep.
--Sammy-- What??
I hope, if you have warranty, you will be able to explain your problem.

Haha.. They would give me sleeping pills.
I'm beginning to think this is a hardware problem, but the handset functions perfectly except the no sleep (resulting in poor battery life).
I do not have a warranty on this one so i'm hoping that if it is a hardware problem I can achieve some kind of work-around.

Please attach the full text log of BBS, it could help .
Can't be hardware, it must be a kernel thing.
I guess you tried em all already, so, as it is weird, you can easily contact samsung and ask them if it could blow off at any time soon
With the s4 coming out they won't like S2 blowing up in people's pockets all of a sudden.

Kernel wakelock suspend_backoff: could be from apps and/or services running in the background, like FB etc. Try using TB to freeze apps (and services!) and see if things are getting better.
Kernel wakelock sec-battery-monitor: do you use a battery monitoring app? I sometimes use Battery Monitor Widget to monitor the battery. This app can run as service in the background when closed, hence I have to disable background logging before I close the app. If I miss to disable it I will have those sec-battery-monitor wakelocks too.
My mate has a I9100. All firmware is latest Nordic stock, it has never been rootet, never flashed with any firmware or anything.
The available internal memory of the device gets slowly filled up without reason. We don't know why, but we expect it to have something to do with charging. Every night he charges the device and every morning there's a little less internal memory available.
The other night my friend set it to charge, and when he disabled the charger, only 75 MB of internal memory remained. He has no where near that amount of apps installed to only leave such a small amount of available memory.
This has happened about four times before, and every time a factory reset is needed.
Have any of you heard about this bug before, and do any of you know how to remedy this issue?
I'm thinking about doing a full factory reset and install latest Nordic stock ROM via Odin but I'm open for suggestions.

i dont think its related to charging he must be having an app which may be increasing storage by saving logs ,some temperory file high amounts of cache memory sort of etc,or loads of apps installed may increase app data + cache to a huge extent for example whatsapp is only about 13 MB but after using it for some months it is now 50MB!...BY THE WAY how much memory is eateN?factory reset and reflashing may help ...does his phone have virus?
I have the same problem!
I've already made factory reset, and also deleted some useless files in the "log" (about 500 files of 50kb each)... but the problem remains. I checked in my computer and in the internal memory of my phone there's 0kb available!! How and why is this happening? There's always a message that says "Full internal memory".
I've searched in this forum if there's something similar to a factory reset for root users that let the internal memory as the default usage... I mean, there are a lot of internal folders of apps that were already deleted last year and I don't know why are they still in the internal memory...
I hope someone have some answers and I already thanks everyone for reading this!
Memory filling up on S ll
Hi,
I am not on this forum often but I found a way to regain memory and get rid of the 'Storage space running out' if this helps.
Right click on the storage space item on the taskbar and select 'App info' then when the android media app details open -force close (I ignore warning about knock on effects.
Even if you didn't get the 'storage space running out' but your internal storage is showing as just a few Mb's - open FX file explorer and make sure that - 'show hidden files' is shown.
Open Main storage and open each folder in turn. Scroll down and look for 'Nomedia' file and delete from any folder that contains it.
Do the same with Media card and sometimes in System folder as well ( although most are 'access denied' on non rooted phone)
I read that the Nomedia file is incompatible with some of the later rom updates. Restart your phone and check your internal storage - hopefully you will see that the memory is restored. But this works for me. Repeat this as necessary.
Best regards and I hope this helps.
Hi,
Before creating this topic I tried to run some research but I haven't found anything useful that would explain my phones recent behavioural problems. The problem with my i9300 is that the phone freezes at random while Android is operating. This happens in settings, while apps get updated, when getting phone calls, when opening an app, when registering a google account (new setup), when opening SMS app... The sreen stops responding, none of the hardware keys do anything and all I can do is take out the battery. It's just crazy and does not seem to have any rules to this madness. The problem started after flashing a new version of Sentinelrom (and CMW supporting android 4.4.2 installations). This is what I already tried to troubleshoot/resolve:
- flashing another recovery (now on latest PhilzTouch)
- flashing other roms (UltimaAOSP Valhalla, latest CM11 nightly, CM10.2 stable, Slimkat ROM) with full wipes, dalvik cache cleanup etc.
- flashing boefla kernel (during Slimkat tests)
- formating \modem
- formatting externalSD (was and is on exFAT)
- taking out externalSD for a longer period
- restoring apps from google instead of titanium backup
- not restoring any apps and settings from google
- installing apps selectivly
Nothing helped although the phone was running most stable on UltimaAOSP Valhalla (3 freezes during one day). The freeze never happened during playing a movie or listening to music. The freeze never happened while in recovery mode.
Does anyone have any other suggestion on what I can do? Any input appreciated!
Maybe your device is affected of the Sudden Death Syndrome.
Try eMMC brickbug Check from Google Play.

Thanks for input. I run the check. The chip may be affected by sudden death, but all of the roms I've tested (now testing Android Revolution based on 4.3 stock - 3 freezes just today) have the fix implemented. Also I have had this phone for almost 2 years now. The internal memory check within this app also found no errors. So I guess it's not related to SDS.
Freezing is usually due to nand memory having bad blocks, read the freezing thread in general forum.

Storage: 16GB
Firmware: I9300XXUGNA8 (4.3)
Rooted: Yes
Recovery: ClockWorkMod
Bought: Abought September 2012
My Problem:
When i left the house this morning everything was working properly with my phone but when i took it out of my pocket at work
i had to see that the phone had done a factory reset all by itself and the google playstore , playservices and all other gapps
are missing. Also apps that would come with the firmware are no existant.
I did a bit of reaserch and found that this could be related to an insane chip problem where some chip, related to the memory is in
a bad state since production. It was stated that some phones died to sudden death in just a few weeks but also this
problem was fixed by samsung with android 4.1.2 onwards.
I also used a app called eMMC Check to see if my memory is defect, but it did a memory test and said it was ok, but also stated that i have
this insane chip.
Further i had a problem with apps suddenly deleting themselfs/simply disappering once or twice in the last one or two month.
This could de fixed by deleting the contents of the app folder (where its installed) and renaming it. Afterwards you could reinstall the app
through the playstore. Beforehand the app would still be shown as installed in playstore, when accessing through a browser. and also
is ore are all the apps i had on my phone before it resetted it today. But i cant find them in any directory i can access on my phone
or through adb.
I don't know if or how this could be related but I'm assuming it is.
Something to mention would be that the phone shows under storage-information that about 12GB out of 16GB are
which would aproimately be the data i had on my phone before. But as mentioned i cant't find it anywhere though dile explorer or
adb.
Also it shows about 8.2 GB of other data beeing on my phone but when i click on it it shows only a few megabyte of data.
As if some Data is hidden/occupying storage but not accesible for the OS.
I want to know if there is any possibility to rescue any data or if its lost or
if anyone had a similar problem before.
I hope you can understand what my problem is and that i have provided enough detail for you.
If anything comes to my mind or you have a question i will update the post/you can simply ask.
Please keep in mind that english isn't my main/first language.
Thanks in advance.

Sadly this doesn't really fit my problem. The only folder i had in data/media was clockworkmod.
I moved it into /0 and restarted my phone but nothing has changed.
I'm thinking that the data that is occupying my sd card is out of range of the operating system .. could that potentially be ?

I'm 100% sure i'm in the right direction (/data/media/) and there only seeing the thre folder (0, legacy, obb).
I found under data/clipboard some old clips (pictures).
And i possibly found the issue..
I have a lost+found folder which is 8.14 GB big .. I don't know to much about lost and found.
just that files end there when the os doesn't know what to do with them.
So any chance for recovering data ?
I think everyfolder has # and a number so i think i have to look in all of them to find out whats left of my data.
