Hi guys,
I'm very new here and also a noob when it comes to rooting and flashing custom ROMS. I was following the instructions of Archidroid in installing his CustomROm Archidroid. The instructions are easy to understand and very helpful. I was able to download his ROM and put it to my externalSDcard as recommended. I downloaded the lates Odin and Philztouchrecovery as instructed and put it on the PDA field. Then I was successful in putting my phone to download mode. Now here's the problem after I replugged my phone to my computer, nothing happened! "<ID:0/003> Added!!". >>This message did not appear on the message box of Odin. The last message from Odin is leave CS mode. What am I doing wrong?? My phone is the Galaxy S3-GT-I9300. And it hasn't been rooted yet. If there's already a thread about this please let me know so I can get to it, I tried searching but I can't find the answers that I need here. Please help!

Have tried all three USB ports in my laptop but still the same and yes, I am in download mode. One thing I can add and I don't know if it has anything to do with it is, on the top left the custom binary is a NO. I'm really new at this. One more question if my phone is being recognized by laptop when I plug it in like it appears as a portable device on My Computer it means that the USB drivers are installed and correct, right?

custom binary has nothing to do here buddy. first you need to root the phone using CF-ROOT method. and flash the philz recovery.zip from CWM recovery that comes after flashing with CF-ROOT. later you will be able to flash any custom rom through philz recovery.
step1: open odin
step2: put phone in download mode(volume down+home+power)
step3: connect phone via usb
step4: odin recognizes the phone
step5: cf-root and the following methods stated at the beginning

yes you need to. also try restarting your laptop.
Sounds more like no drivers installed. Try installing kies to get the drivers and then ensure it's not running in the background. That should solve your problem.

So I have a stock unbranded i9100 that I'm just starting to play with. I roited it yesterday using Superoneclick, which went fine. I then tried to download a new kernel onto it to install clockworkmod recovery.,The phone goes into download mode just fine, anf yes I do press vol up to confirm. Odin and heimdall even find the phone and start the diwnload pricess, but heimdall doesnt progress beyond 0% and Odin freezes at zImage. Kies also cannot successfully update the firmware. Ive tried in an xp computer, a win 7 computer and a mac, no luck on any if them. The phone still works fine after I take the battery out. Help! What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Playing ??? thats the answer you read the faqs and guides before playing .
Your Odin problem sounds like wrong firmware or wrong file or wrong phone .
CWM and Root .

Perhaps playing is the wrong word - I did read the FAQ's/guides before starting and thought I knew what I was doing.
Under About phone, I'm using a GT-I9100 running 2.3.3, Baseband I9100XXKE4, Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 [email protected] #2, Build GINGERBREAD.XWKE7
I used odin 1.83 and 1.85 on several different computers, killing off all mentions of Kies in task manager first. I've tried multiple kernels including CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE7-v4.0-CWM4.zip from the link above and get stuck at the same point every time - odin just gets to zImage then freezes. Could somebod be more specific about what I am doing wrong or how I can find the information I need?
Thanks for your help!

1) uninstall KIES
2) Download drivers (copy in my 4shared, see link in sig, 4icon)
3) install driver
4) try flashing
If that doesnt work try
1) Changing USB ports
2) Changing USB cables
3) Try a different PC.
Thanks for sharing the drivers but still no luck.
I guess I'll order a new USB cable and see if that helps. Is it likely to - the cable transfers data ok otherwise, its just in download mode?

I found the cable that came with the phone to be awful and rather unreliable. YMMV of cause.
And its just a few things that might be causing the problem, no guarantees its the problem.
Could lool at Mobile Odin .

Mobile Odin worked! Thanks for the suggestion. I know have CWM installed and am in business!
I've tried everything, soft reset, hard reset taking battery out flashed all different firmwares now i've briked it but the only way i can get it into download mode is if i flash a kernel in PDA on its own I9100XXKI3 the original version is 2.3.6 XXLK4 or LP4 can't remember well, any flash i do it's always FAIL FAIL FAIl :'( BY the way i do have the drivers instaled for it and kies
If you can get in download mode, it's not bricked.
If it is bricked, you can still get it repaired with a j-tag repair.
I'd recommend you to try Heimdall if Odin fails for some reason. It comes with its own drivers and does not need KIES nor its drivers to work.

It's a console application. You use some kind of console to run it with the proper arguments(cmd/powershell/...).
Or you download the Heimdall frontend and extract it into the same directory as Heimdall. Then you get a "clickable" application. Drivers are included, you have too install them manually.
I recommend you the latter.
if you can do download mode i say try formating system partition using cwm.
also remove your sdcard until you finish flash using odin.
try different usb port and different usb cable.

One you can get to download mode Yes .
Two download a new version of Odin in case old is corrupt .
KIES turned off and not running .
Three follow instructions in the stock rom thread below and flash any GB firmware with a working link .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
We know multiupload is closed pick another download link .
That is to make sure everything is 100% in an attempt to identify the problem by following the basic instructions to the letter as 99% of problems are users making up the instructions .

I'm pretty good with computers even though I don't really code (I do pretty much everything but that) yet I've had nothing but trouble trying to flash CWM 6.0.1.9 to a GT-I9300 version of SGS3.
Here's a brief list of the various approaches I've tried, as a result of my own intuition and following the advice given to people in similar situations across this forum and dozens of others. I might not have achieved my goal yet, but I assure you I'm persistent and thorough!
I've tried four different PCs at this point, three running Windows 7 (one desktop, one laptop, one nettop - all 32-bit) and one running Windows XP.
I've tried installing Kies, then removing Kies and just installing standalone "SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones".
I've tried various USB ports on all the systems
I've tried various ways of plugging in the phone (you know, before/after it's in download mode), making sure there are no other devices in the USB ports, restarting before loading Odin, making sure Odin is run as Administrator, making sure Odin is running before/after the phone is plugged in, keeping the phone plugged in via USB with the battery out then putting the battery in and booting to download mode etc etc.
I've tried about five different versions of Odin at this point. The phone appears in all of them - sometimes the COM port is yellow, sometimes it's blue. Bit confusing but I've given to understand the colour differs depending on the Odin version.
Suffices to say I've been as thorough as I can think to be. But in all cases, the "GT-I9300_ClockworkMod-Recovery-Touch-6.0.1.9.tar" cannot be flashed to the phone... it just appears to start and then stalls, eventually failing when it's left long enough, with the word RECOVERY in a white box at the top of Odin but the file never getting sent to the phone, it seems. I have similar problems trying all the various different things when trying to flash an older version of CWM to a Galaxy Ace, except this time it gets stuck at the SetupConnection part and eventually fails. It's very frustrating!
Honestly I don't know what else I can try. I'm really hoping for as many suggestions as possible, because unless I can get CWM installed on the S III there's no way I can back up the stock version of Jellybean via Nandroid, install Cyanogenmod 10.1 and finally enjoy the benefits of a fully rooted phone.
Thanks in advance to anyone who throws out an idea that makes me look at this in a different way and helps me solve the problem.

I did have Kies installed, but then ditched it on all four PCs and just used the standalone drivers as mentioned, so I'm not having to worry about disabling Kies from systray or killing it completely via Task Manager,
As I understand it from reading lots of other threads across various forums, the drivers are all you really need Kies for. Unless there's something else it does I'm not aware of... as I say I'm trying every option I can think of, every combination of possibilities to get this thing done.

As I say, whether I run Odin as Admin or not doesn't appear to make a difference, sadly. I will say that all four Windows PCs I mentioned are logged on as the master Admin account and I have all the "nag screens" of Windows disable ("Open File - Security Warning" for example) too.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm tempted to try this when I get the chance, but the thing is when I open the TAR file under the PDA column in Odin and try to flash the S III it correctly identifies the "recovery.img" file inside, it just never seems to send it to the phone even though USB Debugging is enabled before booting into download mode. I'd guess another version (older or newer) would have the same problem?

Yep, official Samsung USB cables that came with the phones (Galax yS III/Galaxy Ace).
I wouldn't want to state the obvious, but have you tried flashing a different file?
The fault could be with the file, not with Odin/Windows/Phone
And as far as Kies goes, I know from experience that if you uninstall it, it still leaves bits of itself around so still worth checking in Task Manager that there are no parts still running in the background. As we know, Odin and Kies don't get along.
Something that springs to mind - what version of Android are you using? 4.0.x, 4.1.x, pre 4.x?
Still no joy trying to flash the S III via Odin on Windows. To be honest it's far too much trouble for what should be a simple recovery flash so I think I'd like to do it under Ubuntu instead, I can make a Live USB stick and boot from that then install any needed files (I'm guessing Heimdall via Terminal could do it). Any tips on the easiest way to install CWM on the S III when running Ubuntu? I watched this video and I'm wondering how accurate it is...
Ubuntoo no idea very little posted suggested a Google search might bring up a how to even if for a different model .
It reads like a critical step is missing in your attempts to root via windows for some reason .
It is a 5 min job for most users .

I know, and I've been thorough, that's why I'm so confused I can't seem to do something relatively easy. Odin just hangs and never sends the recovery.img from the TAR file to the phone... it looks like it goes to start with the RECOVERY box above the S III's ID:COM port and then never flashes. It's so odd.

No that's the thing - I don't want to root until I can do a full backup of the original Jelly Bean with CWM - getting CWM on there is basically the first hurdle. But at this point I suppose it might be a good idea to compromise, just to get it done. Not sure really. Don't have enough experience rooting phones to know for sure.

With the S III you might be right, however I couldn't install CWM for the Galaxy Ace using different Odin versions like 3.04 and 3.07 either, and that phone is already rooted with CM 7.2 and already has an older version of CWM on it. Which leads me to believe that something is amiss with Odin and Windows, seeing as I've tried it on four different Windows machines (3 WIndows 7, 1 Windows XP). It's baffling and frustrating.

I Think Its time to make a thread after 3 weeks of searching for fixes.
Okay, so I flashed this ROM 'Extrimis Rom'. It worked. 2 days using. After that, I flashed CM7.2 slim. Worked, No errors, Then ai plugged my Phone to my Laptop, It says USB not recognized. I Cant even flash stock using Odin.
Fixes Tried:
Pull the Battery before Odin.
Install/Update Kies
Tried several PCs with Kies and Adb drivers
Flashed System multi formatter.
I really need to fix this, else I wont be able to flash CM11, coz it needs Odin to go back to stock rfs.

If you tried reinstalling drivers then do wipe data /cache of your Phone then tick on USB debug then connect it to PC & wait for some time windows will Automatically detect them but make sure that you should remove all drivers which are already installed
If the above method didn't work then install PDA net drivers they will work 100% sure.
