CF-Autoroot again.
Odin TWRP
Wipe
Flash freeza's Deodexed Stock ROM
Flash MI5 Firmware
Wipe
Flash JellyBomb
... this is what I would do.

I heard twrp was not always safe to use is this true
Sent from my SM-N900P using xda app-developers app
Safer than CWM at the moment.
Don't restore backups yet. If you dont know what you are doing follow instructions.
You can easily brick your phone while in recovery. Be aware of that. Be careful.

I wanna try staying on stock rom for everything except root. Which rooting method should I use just so that I can have root on the stock rom?
P.S. I'm gonna flash back to complete stock with Odin. Thanks.

I understand about the Odin, but on the Android development forum for the note there are like 3-4 different root methods. I'm just looking to have root on the stock rom and nothing else.

I used this method. Worked flawless. I rooted, followed his instructions for CWM, and stayed stock. Good luck my nizzle!!!

Just flash cf root again

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Flash a pre rooted stock rom (won't lose your data and you will have root)
do you have a link with instructions?
and also, will i be able to update?

New l9 (p769) user, I realized there's no point in having cwm if your on a locked bootloader ( can't unlock bootloader one bit, on v20D) and I'm just wondering if anyone had the stock recovery so I can flash the official ota? And no matter what I can't get fastboot to work which I understand has to do with bootloader. Thanks!

Cwm is very useful even if bootloader is locked. Why do you need stock recovery for? Just update ota? And fastboot works with lock bootloaders. If you have an issue just ask me.

It doesn't let me flash the ota? I've been trying and all it does is pretend to flash about halfway and reboots..

No just flashed the cwm installer and that's it, the stable version. It's rooted and I haven't flashed no zip or anything

Can I flash the v20f cwm backups that I saw stickied? Wipe and flash?
Sent from my LG-P769 using xda app-developers app
Well I'd rather just apply the ota as it is without having to do that since lack of laptop at the moment, is there a way I can get the stock recovery and push it via terminal?
Again thanks for the help!

you don't need to flash anything, just follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40871273&postcount=62
So backing up and installing the 20D backup provided will get me the stock recovery?...confused cause the link you posted was talking about removing cwm, nothing about applying the 20f update. I'm on v20d right now...
Thanks!

Okay, here we go:
1. CWM works with v20D or v20F. If you want to do OTA then you need to follow the link, that Lelus gave you, to the instructions to delete cwm from your phone.
2. If you want to flash the v20F rooted CWM backup that is on the sticky then all you have to do is download it to your sd card then get into cwm and flash the zip file.
3. I would suggest you get cwm working and backup your current ROM before you do anything just in case you run into trouble you can do the "etch-a-sketch" start over by reloading (flashing) your backup.
Good Luck!!!
Ok I deleted all remnants of cwm, renamed the file, and tried to apply the update, still no dice. Can I just restore one of the stock 20f roms stickied using cwm?

Yes the rooting is the same and the link developweb gave you is the easiest instructions and it is how I rooted my I717r. However....
If after installing Recovery (cwm or twrp) and you reboot into recovery to install superuser you find out you still have stock recovery installed then you need to do an extra step. Depending on how your phone was updated there may be a script installed that restores the stock recovery. So after you install custom recovery remove your battery while it is rebooting. This will prevent the script from reinstalling stock recovery. Then boot into recovery yourself to install superuser.
Info about rooting the Canadian version is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775263
I rooted my I717r with ICS installed. I installed ICS using odin and the script was not on my phone. I believe if your phone was updated via OTA then it got the script. I have no idea if this script is carried over into jellybean or not.
Thanks a lot everyone

I'm on mj7. I want the cm11 on my phone and was wondering if I could flash a cwm recovery over to my phone, then boot into it and flash cm11? Or do you need root to flash a custom recovery? Thank you for your help

I really wish you would search the forums for this frequently asked question. But at this time there is no custom recovery for your firmware. I would recommend buying an MDK firmware s4 off of Swappa. Other than that you're SOL.

Thank you. I took it for granted that there was a recovery for 4.3
