I had to replace my phone today. Is it possible to root this one, flash stock rom and restore data partition from old phones backup?

I did this on the s3. Look at the number that is on old back up first . Write it down Make a backup of new rom next . Then place old back up in new folder . Pick the data partition from there and u should be gravy. Again. Haven't tried on the note3 but did it on s3 and HTC evo4g

i did not tried it, but maybe....
install your new Rom en then go to BACKUP/RESTORE
take ADVANCED RESTORE en choose RESTORE DATA.
I just saw it today for the first time. And i wondered...
Every time I install a new Rom, i have to download all my apps from market again, and i wondered.. mayby, I can restall them through this.
Titanium backup PRO has an option to extract apps and their data from NAND backup.

Hello to all.
So here I am new to this forum and I am not speaking to the original, I ask you in advance to please forgive me for my bad english.
So here is my problem now time for 2 days.
This provides a backup made in CWM, I always used to make a backup from CWM Recovery, except that recently, I have a big problem to restore the last.
In fact, when I try to restore, everything goes well for restoring boot.img, system.img, ect. except that in the middle of restoring / data, the operation freezes and stops with the message in the last line: "Error while Restoring /data"
So I thought a corrupt backup, which is not the case, I had enough space on my SD card (8Gb around, the backup actually 3Gb and more).
After a wipe cache, wipe data then a factory reset, then flash to a newer firmware (XLFB), still the same problem.
After doing some research, I realized the problem: my data part is larger than 2GB, and that I understand, beyond, the restoration of data fails. ..
So I thought of you, and a way to cut or compress the /data, because I saw somewhere that someone could manage to compress the /data with the option of compression TWPR's Recovery.
Problem: TWPR is not available for the GT-I9300 International version. :crying:
A solution? I thank you in advance.
ErwaNetwork.
Are you using the same version CWM recovery you backed up with ??

Why your backup is more than 2gb? Too many apps? Games?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes, a lot of games

Temporarily solution:
Backup with titanium. Uninstall them and then backup with cwm. Should get your nandroid backup below 2gb.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
But I can not access in my backup, how can I make a backup and then uninstall the applications they are already packed in the backup?!? One way to do your manipulation without to be in the backup? Because I'm on a new interface, so it's all gone (except for the multimedia data that are stored on the external SD card).

You can try use Titanium to restore apps from nandroid.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Ok, thanks ! But, how can I uninstall the applications which are in the nandroid backup after a backup with Titanium ?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Have you try restoring your nandroid using advance restore menu in recovery?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yes, I tried, but it returns the same result.

Any suggestion?

Trying to modified your nandroid could brick your device during nandroid restoration.
Do this at your own risk:
Copy nandroid to PC, use 7-zip to open data.ext4.tar and looks for
Apps folder. Delete those games apk.
Clear all content in the dalviks folder.
In the data folder, delete those related to your games.
Save and exit
Copy back your nandroid file to your phone.
Your nandroid md5sum will not match. So open terminal emulator and type
adb shell
# cd /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2012-06-29.18.20.43
# rm nandroid.md5
# md5sum *img > nandroid.md5
Now try to restore your nandroid again. Hope no more error.

my nandroid backup is 3.2GB in size. restores fine for me.
I made a nandroid backup and went flashing. Didn't like something decided to go back to mybakup which is actually stock rooted. But it says md5 missing so it won't flash. How do I get this done.....

Did you move it or rename it?
You may have either renamed it and added a space, or made a backup without enough space which means it didn't back up all your data. If it'd the first one, remove the space. If its the second one, your boned.

One other option ...
If you made a backup using CWM, then changed to another recovery ....it won't restore.
Recovery files cannot be mixed between different types..
(Learned that from rangercaptain)
Thanks brother ....g
Hi guys, need a bit of help.
I have rooted my phone previously but did not like it so I flashed the stock rom with Odin. This left my device status as modified. Since it is modified I cannot get software updates.
Recently, I had to flash jellybean for my phone as it would not update ota or through kies. Now when pressing check for update in settings, it sais "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available".
Is there anyway to change the device status back to normal without wiping data? If not, how can I backup all my data so it can be restored? Samsung kies crashes when trying to backup apps and I'm not sure if mobile go backs up app data.
I am using the international version of the Samsung Galaxy S3, if that helps.
Thanks in advance

Root again, and run triangle away, then flash stock again via Odin and wipe data from recovery.
This removes all evidence of root and you will be completely stock with a binary counter of 0.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I did run triangle away before when my phone was rooted.
How do I wipe data from recovery?
Will it wipe all my user data?

Far simpler to join xda users and flash a stock rom via CHECKFUS .

The problem is that I have no proper way to backup my data so I can restore it after I wipe data (mainly app data as other data backs up in kies)
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
XDA Developers way .
root phone then backup via recovery .
Backup EFS folder
Purchase Titanium backup pro from the market and backup apps .
Also backup your contacts and any MP3 /Video can be copied to PC .
Download and save original firmware via Checkfus .
Update by flashing any stock rom or custom rom .

Thanks for that, looks really helpful.
Just a quick question I didn't find an answer to there. When restoring data with titanium backup, do I still need to be rooted? I understand that backing up requires root though.

Dude, i dont know if sdk is a good/easy option. But try Nandroid Backup on play store.
But the problem is that all these apps from the play store that backup your device require root and I want my phone unrooted after restoring it. Those apps do require root to restore data right? If not then I am willing to use them.

i've used very simple method.
1) connect usb to pc - then select internal memory copy to sd card.
2) for some data will not show any items if connect via usb.But you still can move via file manager such as "solid explorer".Just select file and copy to sd card.It might take a little bit longer.
..i'm already done more than 20 times chg status modified to normal.Just ensure you use proper step as adviced by Xda senior..

So when restoring data do you just copy it back onto the phone?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Hi guys, I've left this topic off for a while but I'm back with new questions.
I have now found Holo Backup (Simple ADB Backup) to backup my phone without any rooting or complicated stuff. I wanna know that if I backup my device with its device status modified, will it still show modified when I restore it?
Also has anyone with an S3 successfully backed up and restored their phone using holo backup and if so what was the size of backup file. When I tried mine it came up with a file slightly over 1gb which doesn't seem right seeing as I have about 10gb internal data and 10gb of data on my micro sd.
Thanks in advance

Use Framaroot to root your phone (!!with SuperSU!!) after reflasing, use Titanium Backup to restore the apps and systemapp-data....
After you did it, go to SuperSU, go to settings and tap on Unroot.... Your device state will be NORMAL after that!
I own the g2 vs980. I am running malladus. I had a nandroid backup of cleanrom. In an effort to free up space late last night I opened cwm app and deleted my backup if clean rom. I would like to recover it. I know of tools like diskdigger apk, but I don't know if it will recognize the format since (I believe) inside the backup file folder there are many files that comprise the nandroid backup. Any help or direction is greatly appreciated. I did not do any factory resets since the delete. I know the files should still be there. I have done very little on the phone so the data should still be intact... for now. Thanks

I am looking for a way to recover the deleted nandroid backup. I know how to start from scratch. That was never the question. Don't waste people's time by replying to questions that were not asked.
