Wrong forum; this is for the i777 S2.
But regarding your question, sounds like you're on a TouchWiz rom if you have the ability to merge your contacts. Seems like I remember you can choose those merged with Google in the contacts settings, but I honestly can't remember.

[Q] [Leaked ICS] Where did my contacts tab go

So I installed the February leaked ICS for S2 and while everything works mostly ok I am missing the contacts tab on my dialer. The Contacts/Groups/etc tabs are on the "Contacts" up but unless I was high in the last few months I remember a 'Contacts' tab being on the dialer too... It's only annoying of course, but maybe I am doing something wrong here. I already tried scrolling the tab area to see if it was hidden somewhere, no game. Also did a wipe on CWM to check if it was the problem and still no contacts tab.

This is not a fix for your problem but an alternative....Just go to the market and try the "Go Contacts" install and put a shortcut to your home....
Google has separated phone and contact app in ICS it used to be one app.
Hence your problem.
There should be another app called Contacts. like an orange rectangle with a silhouette of a man.
You can get into contacts from the phone app by pressing menu and selecting contacts. Google removed the contacts button from the dialer.
Really? That's strange (not to say stupid). Go Dialer is ok I think. Any other Dialer suggestions? I would like one that let me edit the number format (I use the phone in US english and it formats the numbers as xxx xxx xxxx but all my phones are xx xxxx xxxx)
Not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but I've heard a lot of good stuff about "Dialer One" on the market. It's free and has decent reviews as well. Good luck!
Contacts tab missing from ICS Dialer

After updating to ICS on my Droid Bionic, I've been looking for a solution to the odd disappearance of the Contacts tab that I was so used to in Gingerbread. I suppose I could just train myself to open Contacts first instead of dialer when I want to call someone. If I can't seem to remember to do that, I can always open Dialer then tap the menu softkey and select "Search" at the top of the list -- it will take you right to Contacts. This seems to be much easier than installing other contact apps and / or rooting.
Good day.

[Q] Galaxy s2 and GS III help

Sold my galaxy SII and bought a Galaxy SIII. Ive inserted my sim card into my phone and have synced all my contacts. However my sister who has bought my GSII has deleted all my contacts off my new GSIII from her GSII. She says shes jst deleted the contacts and yet they have been deleted off my phone to. How do I fix this?? Thanks. My HTC sensation us unaffected
Sounds like the GS2 was still connected to your google account when your sister deleted all your contacts. If that's the case, unless you backed up your contacts to another medium before she deleted them, I'm not sure you can recover them.

I cant remember deleting my account off of there tbh. Ive got my contacts backed up. My sister is coming round later on. If I wipe all the data off the GSII and create a new google ID on the GSII, will this sort the issue? What I dont want, is to wipe the GSII only to lose all my contacts again (even though Ive got them backed up) Never seen this problem before and Ive owned quite a few android devices.

Hey, Yann68's right! (Thanks dude! I didn't know about this.)
There is a feature to restore contacts back to a specific time. Log into your Google account, go to Contacts. Click the "More" button, and you'll see "Restore Contacts". You can then choose how far back to restore to.

[Q] Known Contacts Showing up as (Unknown) in Recent Calls??

Anyone else having this problem? In my Recent Calls list there are only 4 out of 75 that shows my contact's name & image. The rest just say (unknown) and have the number listed. I looked at these 4 contacts to see what makes them different and I see no obvious differences that would make them somehow poll differently. I've had this issue since I got this phone and am finally fed up with it.
Another problem I'm having that may or may not be related is that when I type on the number pad to search for contacts via number or name... it doesn't work. When I start typing characters of someone's name the results just dwindle down w/o rhyme or reason. For instance, if I type my wife's name... nothing. If I type Chis I end up with three contacts with the name of Chris. That's nice but I have 8 contacts with the name of Chris. When I type any other name there is no results. Coincidentally if I type one of the 4 contacts from the problem above they will show up.
It appears as though there is some sort of disconnect between HTC's phone stuffs and my actual contacts and what not. Is there a cache I can clear or something to get this to work? Some sort of setting to get this to function properly?
Thanks for the help.
what rom and such? tried clearing cache or dalvik? are your contacts linked to google or facebook?

Stock ROM, rooted and unlocked bootloader. Contacts are linked to Google, not Facebook. As for cache & davlik... I have had this phone for a while now and this problem has existed since day 1. I have cleared them both for other issues and the problem remains so I don't think that is going to solve it as it hasn't yet. I appreciate the tip though.

Have you tried unlinking your google account and relinking it? Are you on the latest update from sprint (2.13 RUU)? have you fixed permissions?
This happened in 1.22 as well, its a problem with their contact linking. As soon as I linked Google plus and Facebook sense merged the info and disregarded the Google contact info, I had to reset and the numbers came back with out the actual info unless I opened their contact info. When I re linked Google plus and Facebook they came back

Yeah, I also had to do that for another problem so I know it's been done in the past yet this problem remains. I think most of the 'usual' stuff has been tried prior to starting this thread.

I'm on 1.13 still. I don't have Google+ or Facebook linked though as I didn't want to deal with all that mess and the people I actually wanted in my contacts I enter manually into my Google contacts. I don't think this is the cause of my issues.
It sounds like the exact same issue except you haven't linked any info. Maybe it'll be addressed whenever the next update comes. I didn't have this problem until after the second update

Any thoughts on how to resolve this?
Nope I jumped ship to cm10, I'm thinking about flashing back to see if anything else I might have done fixed it or if it was just because I re linked the contact info

I may jump to CM10 once it's final as there's still a few minor bugs that I don't want to live with. In the meantime I just want to get this stupid call history bug fixed. Is there something specific I can clear the cache of or detach and reattach that might resolve this? I did plenty of Google searches and I see some people talking about factory resets but then half of those say that doesn't even work. The last thing I want to do is a factory reset and that is if it was even a know fix for this issue.
It's a bug in sense as far as I could tell, perhaps installing a different dialer from the market that integrates history and contacts will help
Something else I noticed today since I uninstalled GoSMS and went back to the stock SMS app... my contacts aren't showing up in my conversation list or the main screen. Only a couple of them show a picture and name and the rest are all the phone number only. This is especially annoying when I want to find someone in my conversation list to send a text message to because I have no idea who is who. This bug is driving me nuts.
Well, today I found a work around... sorta. If you go into each contact and then set default action under individual settings for each contact (yes... each one) so that the default method is a text message (calling may work too... haven't checked). Once I did this my contacts had images and names in the call log and the messages. I did notice that while I was doing this the first two I did had to be done again for some reason so I don't really know what is going on, what this fixes or ho long it may or may not last but if anyone else finds this... here's a possible fix.
Nope... still doesn't work. I thought I found this band-aid fix to make it work but after a few days it went back to not being linked. No contacts photos and no names. Just a bunch of phone numbers in my SMS list and my call log. This is very frustrating. Is there a cache I can clear or something other than the phone's main cache and dalvik? Is there an app in my app list or two that I can clear the cache of to get this to reload properly? I don't want to go back to GoSMS (too much spam and too much fluff) and it doesn't fix my call log anyway.
You could try clearing data from contacts storage in app settings or the 3 people apks then resync and see if that helps
Did you fix permission? This happens to me after I do it

Why would I need to fix permissions if I'm on the stock ROM? I thought that was only something you needed to do if you changed ROMs, no?
Not necessarily, if you do something as simple as restore a backup with titanium you might have to fix permissions, if you format internal and restore apps, you might have to fix permissions. If you change something in the Rom like remove bloat, it might affect other apps and you might have to fix permissions.
There's contact storage, then you have people, its broken down into 3 seperate pieces. Each one is responsible for different features like contact linking and contact sync from other accounts

I've rooted an unlocked... that's about it. If this could be my problem then I need to know how to fix it. Also, I get an error message whenever I open Titanium Backup saying that my device ID has changed and it asks if I wanted to change it back. I keep putting that off because I had hacked DropBox to get like 77gb of storage using the LTE Evo and then the SGS3 hack. After an update it lost the SGS3 storage space so I was going to look into this again and how my device ID applied before I did anything. I'm to the point now where I don't even care about the DropBox thing anymore and should probably figure out how to proceed with this whole device ID thing that TiBackup keeps warning about. Not sure if that could have any relation to this problem but seems like it could so that's why I just mentioned it.

So there are 3 different APKs for this? So I need to find each one in my installed list and clear data/cache? Any idea what they're called if that's the case so I clear the right ones?
All 3 are named people, the device id problem sounds like build.prop but Im not sure because I'm not entirely sure what you did

Facebook notifications

Yesterday I installed Captivating(Xperia Themed)[Milestone 4] on my i777, and love it so far. I have one problem with Facebook notifications. This phone is used for work, so I have not had any FB notifications on it for over a year with approx. 10 different roms that I have tried out. Everytime I have had no problems making sure that the FB did not notify me for anything. Well I am getting them now for stuff even with the options taken off in the app. I have checked all other options in Xperia as well and nothing will stop them. I tried un-installing and re-installing and restarting but nothing is working. Is there a hidden setting somewhere in the Captivating Rom that I dont know about? Any help would be great.
Jason
my phone specs are on the attached pic. Nevermind, I am too new with no posts so no outside links....

Everything you need is right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155732
sephhi has pictures , and descriptions mentioning facebook is integrated in that them! so figuring out a way to turn it off means asking yourself:
Is Sync On? How many places are there for turning sync on/off
What is under account management?
Is there a setting somewhere in the theme that overrides all the other setting inside the app?
I did a search in the original thread with nothing found there. I then broadened the search to q&a and then all of the i777 forums. I have disabled Facebook from syncing in the app and also in accounts. I have spent hours in every setting looking and there is no other Facebook setting. That is why I am asking if anyone else has had this problem. If not I'll re flash the ROM and start over.

I'm not using that ROM, I'm using CM 10.1, but I would assume this feature exists in most/all JB ROMS...
Have you tried turning off "Show Notifications" in the App info setting?

I have disabled both the facebook app notifications and the actual facebook settings as well. I also have disabled sync in the android settings in accounts as well with no luck...
Installed the RC2 update and so far no notifications for FB! I am a happy camper again.

sometimes unable to save contact

I'm running on a Samsung S9+ on Android Pie and for a while I'm having the following problem.
When I modify a contact sometimes this does not work, I get the message 'Unable to save contact'.
If I redo the same changes a second or third time, the save works.
Almost all my contacts are in my gmail account, only a couple of them locally.
I already read forum and they say to export contacts, delete all of them and reimport but this does not make much sense when the contacts are in gmail.
I also know I can hard reset the device but that's something I want to avoid.
Are there any other options to get rid of this error.
As far as I can see I'm using the Samsung contacts app.

Well, this is something I'm going to try and see what the results are.
But is this a general problem, I haven't found complaints about this on other forums.
Is it the combination of the Samsung contacts app with some other apps?
If possible I would like to get it to work with the sammy app.
I went back to the original of Pie contacts app and that's version is 10.2.20.10 but with the same problem.
There's a release 11.060.2 but I cannot install this version.
And than there's something else. When I open the camera and leave it open for a while without taking a photo or video it shuts down on itself.
Is there anybody with this problem too?

ive had the same issue with my current S9, previous A8, S5's (yes, plural. 3 of them to be exact. 2 were mine, one was my dads. 2 G900V's and a G903VL) and a S4. Different networks tested, different carriers, all the same result. Samsung contacts app has always been broken for me and ive frequently tried it too as it gets annoying and i too wanted all sammy stuff on my sammy phone.
