I have an Archos G9 101 turbo 512 Mb RAM, and I want to install a firmware lighter than [ROM] Root & Deodex - Archos Firmware 4.0.28 !. Many people said, the best firmware was 4.0.7.
Which is better and lighter:
-[ROM] Custom Rom - Archos ICS Firmware 4.0.7 - Root , Deodex & Busybox ! or
-[ROM] Update 19/07/12 Custom Rom [email protected] V03 - only for enabled SDE !?
Please respond
Nobody can help me?

They are both based on stock roms, so they are about the same. My recommendation is [ROM] UPDATE 15/10/12 | Android 4.0.4 | Custom Rom | Clean_Slim&Fast V.0.1, as it has been trimmed down from extra stuff. but from those 2, I think the modded stock is lighter, but [email protected] might be faster, as it has some tweaks that stock does not have.

Maybe I formulated the question wrong.
What is the most stable ROM? What has less bugs?

Stock roms and roms based on them are all very stable and mostly bugfree. I would recommend a 4.0.28 based rom, but I have read that devices with 512mb ram run slowly 4.0.28 roms.
Try [ROM] Custom Rom - Archos ICS Firmware 4.0.7 - Root , Deodex & Busybox first. It has no tweaks, so it should have less bugs.

My last question, I hope.:fingers-crossed:
I read that the ROM's based on 4.0.2x Archos firmware slows down the tablet by indexing files, is it true?
In that case, is it better to use ROM's based on the Archos firmware 4.0.x?
Then the more stable the 4.0.7, does it?
Is it possible to downgrade from 4.0.28 to 4.0.7? How?

Yes, some people have problems with the indexing. Personally, I haven't had problems with the indexing.
Some people also report more touchscreen issues with 4.0.2x roms.
For you, I recommend using 4.0.7 roms. They seem to be more stable for most people.
As far as I know, you can't downgrade the official firmware. However, SDE roms are totally different! If you install 4.0.28 SDE rom, you can downgrade to 4.0.7 by just installing 4.0.7 rom.
With SDE rom I am talking about the custom roms. Just to make sure you know: Stock rom can not be modifies, but SDE roms can. SDE rom is the file you download from custom firmware topic. Stock roms can only be downloaded from archos' site.
So, Stock roms -> Downgrading IS NOT possible. SDE rom/file -> Downgrading IS possible.
If you knew this already, sorry. I'm just trying to make sure you fully understand this.

Hi All,
I searched the forums and though this question has been asked couple of times, I failed to get a satisfying and consolidated answer, so seeking a solution here.
Scenario: X10i, 2.3.3 Stock, rooted using aZuZu. Self-customized framework-res.apk and SemcUxpRes.apk and a truckload of apps. Poor battery life, slightly laggy.
I am equally drawn towards CM7 as well as Wolfbreak 4. I know that both are completely different flavours, but much as I love the Cyanogen innovations, so do i love the tweaks done in WB's ROM with minimal changes to the UI.
Questions:
When I backup my current ROM using xrecovery, what all elements get backed up? More precisely, if I make a backup of my stock ROM using xRecovery, will it backup all the installed apps, conntacts, messages and appdata?
If I restore this backup at a later date, will I be able to get back my phone in the same state as it was backed up? (e.g. I am on level 14 on angrybirds and I made a backup, wiped my phone, and then restored the backup, will I have to start Angrybirds afresh or I can continue from where I left off, as though nothing had happened?)
Is it possible to have multiboot on the X10? So that Everytime I boot up, I can choose whether I want to load the CM7 ROM or the WB4 ROM?
Thanks in advance.
1 yes, the things you mentioned will be backed up (but not the baseband & the kernel)
2 yes, you can play angry birds from where you left off (but as I said you can't backup/restore baseband & kernel)
3 no, not yet. Before official gb there was a solution for dual booting a 2.1 rom with a 2.2/2.3 rom, but I believe dual booting two 2.3 roms is not possible for now

Thanks for that! Just a couple of doubts here:
As you mentioned, the BB and kernel wont be backed up. How exactly will that affect my device? Will it lead to any compatibility issues if I restore to a backed up ROM?
Do I need to keep a note of the Baseband and Kernel versions of all the ROMS which I intend to flash, and flash the corresponding bb & kernel versions prior to recovering a backed-up ROM? To be more clear, supposing I am on bb .71 and kernel 2.6.29, and I flash a new ROM with a different kernel. If I wish to go back to stock by recovering my backup, will I have to flash the bb .71 and 2.6.29 kernel again?
I noticed Woflbreak's ROM uses kernel version 2.3, but I am on a different kernel version (2.6.29). Do I need to downgrade to 2.3 kernel before using the WB ROM? Won't an older version of the kernel cause a drop in performance?
well to sum it up yes you need to keep a note of kernel & baseband for avoiding any compability issue, the kernel part is pretty easy, 2.1 roms all use the same kernel & 2.3 roms another kernel, If you want to go from a 2.1 rom to a 2.3 rom you need to flash the appropriate kernel (& the baseband) with flashtools, but switching from a 2.1 rom to another 2.1 rom or from a 2.3 rom to a 2.3 rom shouldn't be a problem kernel-wise, you just need to pay attention to the required baseband & flash the right one if necessary
what rom are you on?
& by the way 2.3 on Wolfbreak is not the kernel, it's the android version
the bb and kernel are in a 7zip archive linked on the page for wolfs 4.0 along with the newest patch. it explains how to do it all on the page. You must take into consideration when trying a new rom the basebands that it is made for.
Basebands can be found here.
Most newer roms will tell you in the post which baseband you need.
Also see if users post other working baseband versions along with kernel versions. how to use a custom kernel with it and a post explaining custom kernels is here.

It does matter whether you get Android 2.1 and 2.3. Android 2.3 is (on most devices) faster, more stable, supports more apps, has many bug fixes and optimizations than Android 2.1. Recommendations: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161270 (not Eclair ). CyanogenMod is also very good.

first-->stock based roms are based on official released roms provided by sony but with the effort of developers they are usually smoother and less bugs are in there (by tweaks and scripts and etc)
second-->you can find in dev section

Here are the ROMS for your GB..

IMP: The above mentioned ROMS require the Neo patch to be installed after the original ROM.. So don't forget that, otherwise your camera may be affected!
PS. All the ROMS are in the Dev section..
@iamdchosen1 @hossein7292 thanks a ton
P.S. Thanks button punched
my first post, please don't flame (too hard).
I've helped others with GPS and Play store glitch after jelly bean update, and now looking for some help.
My wife has an S2 i777 and did SIM unlock to use with T-MO.
It's GB 2.3.6. The PDA is i777 UCKK6.
I'm looking for RTL with Arabic language support. I've done weeks of reading and I found this nice thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1292841 But that ONLY supports UCKH7
This phone is not rooted.
Looking for noob instructions for RTL arabic support.
Thanks in advance.
1. Upgrade to ICS and you should have proper Arabic support sans keyboard - AFAIK Hebrew/Arabic/all RTL language support was first introduced on ICS. When on ICS, download any Arabic keyboard from Play Store and you should be good to go.
2. Or move to deodexed GB ROM (any custom ROM) and run madmack's Arabic patcher (google it and you'll find it). It should work on any deodexed GB ROM, since it's based on Hebrew patcher that decompiles/recompiles the framework - but it's also the reason why it can't work on stock odexed ROM.
I suggest option 1.
Thanks Jack.
1) I heard that ICS was a complete failure and has bricked many i777 S2's. Are you saying to root and use custom ROM as opposed to the ATT update?
2) found what deodexed means... www wugfresh .com /guides / deodex/
Do you have any experience with the i777 S2 and ATT ICS OTA update?
Thanks
1. ICS is generally a better system on this phone IMHO. I do suggest moving to it through custom ROMs rather than through stock official upgrade - stock-based custom ROMs offer stock stability with customization options, and EMBRYO 5.4 is a good ROM that I'm happily running. Not sure how relevant the infamous "brickbug" is, but it's irrelevant for most custom ROMs.
If anyone more familiar with "brickbug" can chime in - you might get a better picture. I got mine with Gingerbread, installed TWRP recovery and flashed custom ROM about 1/2 hour after I got the phone, so I have no experience with stock GB/ICS.
2. "Deodexed" means - not odexed. With Google help:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-odex-and-deodex-in-android-complete-guide/
Stock ROMs are always odexed, so you'll have to move to a sort of custom ROM anyway. And if you do - you might as well go a better route than staying on GB.
Since I'm the kk6 (2.3.6) GB, do I need to downgrade factory image first in order to root? Or is there a tool out there to root and put a custom ROM (ICS or JB custom ROM).
Thanks
It's not one tool, it's more.
Read the stickies, they contain rooting guides. See that you understand what you're doing before proceeding.
Thanks Jack. I was just wondering if I needed to downgrade GB version first.
No, you don't need.
Just to let you know, there is a thank button to thank the user that helps you.
It's used a lot here on XDA.
You can thank 8 a day.

Hi, I have a LG L7 II P710. My ROM is the V10H of the company Orange, Spain (Jelly Bean). I want a ROM based on Stock, KK, root, etc...
Here there are many, but I don't know what to choose. Which should you choose?
Sorry for my bad english
Amiga500 latest kitkat rom
If you don't insist on KK (which is very problematic in this device in terms of performance and stability), then I would say that Purified Stock 1.0 (JB based) is the ROM for you.

Purified stock 1.0 is JB based, and Purified 2.0 is KK based. I haven't tried the 2.0 version, so I can't tell you anything about it. I have tried Amiga KitKat ROM versions 1 & 2, and they were OK for KK ROMs (didn't try the more advanced versions), but I reverted to JB ROMs after it turned out that all KK ROMs I was using (stock, Amiga and CM11) were inferior to the JB ROMs in terms of performance and stability.

You can't do nothing, try another rom, neutronrom (kk 4.4.2), purified stock v1 (jb 4.1.2)
As you can see, nowadays there are some great roms for our LG L7II. But also notice that some of them were created/ported and launched for download but, after that, their respective developers have turned into other projects so, you might want to test the roms that still have people working on it so you can solve the problems you can have while testing the rom.
I've tested many of the roms but in general the KitKat based roms (call it Stock rom, Stock debloated, or fully modded like CM) are always buggy, unstable, slow, etc. Of course they have great improvements in security, UI, etc but what I'm trying to say it's that it is not worth. Or at least you should be giving it a try to JellyBean based roms like the one neutrondev is making.
Of course the best thing about Android (Linux) is that you can always have a little bit of a taste of everything. Everything is possible. :good:
