[Q] CM10 install - Motorola Droid X2

Hello,
I have just registered and I am sure some people will say I did not need to start a new thread, but I don't think any threads answer my exact questions.
I am interested in installing dragonzkiller's CyanogenMod 10.0.0-RC0 For the Droid X2 on my DX2.
I am looking for a little guidance, I am on 2.3.5 stock and do not know how to get back to the required 2.3.4, I have never installed a rom before, but I am rooted.
I do not know how to make a "backup" of any sort or how to use it should something go wrong. Even though from the video I watched it only took about 10 minutes to install and it worked fine.
I will be using this as a daily driver, as I do not take videos, that wont be a problem, but what I do not know is "Bluesleep" is this a problem? What does bluesleep do? does not having it affect battery life?
And most importantly what does he mean when he says
"Data usage: Just don't ask me. I might get to it again one day. We'll see."
does it leak data? This is the most important to me as I am on a extremely limited data plan, and use droidwall to block most data usage. If I use droid wall on this ROM will it still leak data? Stock ROM does not leak any data at all with droidwall.
Sorry if I sound like a noob, but I would appreciate the expertise of you guys!

bule sleep is an app, used to help save battery life, just don't install it on cm10

Data usage is the app that can tell you what is using data, it was not working, not sure if it was fixed in alpha 3 or not
droid wall should work fine

[Q] Update unnamed rom

I'm sure this is a noob question, but can you update a rom (unnamed) using the update zip if you skip an update. I'm at 1.0.4 and I want to update, but it looks like the update says v1.1.0-v1.2.0, so does this mean I can't use it to go from 1.0.4 directly to 1.2
I've got a ton of apps on, so I'd rather not factory wipe if I can help it.
Gtg uses non-wipe installs for this reason (I think). You can't use the 1.1.0 to 1.2 update, but you can use the full 1.2 package, and you shouldn't lose your apps.
But, you may want to back up beforehand to be safe.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
I'm at UnNamed v1.1.0 currently and want to update to 1.2.
What I'm unclear on is the Wipe data step. Do I need to do that if I'm using the appropriate update zip or is that just in the instructions for clean/new installs of the full zip?
Better yet, what exactly does that step even do? Does that clear personal/saved data or program data like settings?

That step clears your rom wipes anything on that rom, if you are running 1.10 all you have to do is flash the update zip 1.10-1.20 (not the full zip) and reboot its easy, i did it last night
the full version is if you are coming from a different rom or want to do a fresh install
Worked like a charm. Thanks
anyone try the NFC option?
i went straight from 1.0.4 to 1.2 without any issues.

No apparent issues. gtg456x said you should install 1.2.0 full without a wipe rather than skip over an update.

You may be missing features or some stuff that you just don't know of yet. Just flash the full rom without a wipe. It is just as easy as doing the update. It only takes a little while longer to download.
Fair enough...
I guess that is one problem with a thread that has 1400+ replies. If critical info is not in the first post it is easily skipped. I even tried searching the thread to see if there was a mention of the "proper" procedure.

Just read the last few pages. Its mentioned several times.

well, since i have time to waste I looked at the thread from the time the latest update was made until the time I did my update. No mention (in that time period) that you should do a full install and not the update.
"the last few pages" is full of posts made after I downloaded flashed the update. I still stand by what I said, 1400+ posts, when most are semi off topic or stupid questions, is A LOT to fish through for a basic install question.
No worries, just did the full install and all went well.
Yes, adding this little detail to the first post would be the best. I have this same problem and had to search the forums for a while before finding this thread. Should save time for a lot of people who don't follow the thread daily for updates.
Just my two cents - I was on this rom and noticed that after receiving a txt message, all notifications would play out of the front ear speaker, and not the rear speaker. I searched the unnamed dev forum high and low for a post on this and did not find an answer, but did see a post from a user with the same issue. Just curious if anyone else ran into this. Since switched to MIUI but loved unnamed and would really like to switch back, but I found the notifications issue a deal breaker...

Okay, I have gotten so blasted close with getting a custom rom on this phone. I can get them installed now and they are wonderful I tried gummy and aokp but for the life of me I can not get data to work I can not make or recieve phone calls. I am in roaming all the time too. I have gone through all settings and scoured the forum and I can not find an answer anywhere. Am I missing something totally obvious here? Does anyone maybe have any suggestion? Thank you guys for your help. It's just frustrating that I am so close.

What is the status of your Photon currently? Assuming it is rooted and unlocked, running what rom? Please provide info on what rom you are on now, which one you flashed from, and what process you used to get where you are. The more info provided the easier it will be to help.
Well lets see, currently I am back on stock, but here is what I did. I rooted, unlocked, installed CWM 5.0.2.7 I also flashed jokers recoveryv3 ( I follow QB's videos) So then I installed the gummy rom using this process. Format system, format data, format cache, wipe cache then dalvik cache. flash rom, flash rom again ( now I did not reboot into recovery after I flashed the rom the first time) I just went straight to install rom again. flash gapps, fix permissions. Reboot up and good loving it all. Waited 15 min then rebooted again. That's it. So I am at a loss. Thanks for help if you need any other info please let me know.
Oh I am on 2.3.4 with 198_7 also
In your system settings did you have "home only" or "automatic" selected for your roaming settings? For a lot of these roms, "automatic" is forced roam. And then if you didn't have roaming data enabled, that would explain why you were constantly roaming with no data.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA
Thanks so much .
I did have automatic checked but I did have roaming data enabled also. I flipped it around too with home only. I am truly beginning to think my phone is just plain "off " who knows. It's a shame though, I mean not that stock is bad on this phone but the custom roms are so much better imo. This is the first phone I have ever had a problem with. I have been flashing phones for years. Think I started with a HTC Mogul. That was a solid phone LOL
Does CM7 work for you? If it does then I reckon flashing that and setting it up, then instead of doing a full wipe keep your data and flash CM9 based rom over it, fix permissions and take it from there.
I have not tried CM7 but I can, sure can't hurt to try at this point. Thanks, I will give that a try tomorrow.
Have you tried *#*#4636#*#*? Sometimes flashing changes the radio in that menu. Be careful though, changing something can really Bork your phone. It should be on cdma prl I think

Deb, my photon has never been kind to me with the 'flash twice' method. It always results in no data. Try cm9 again, but this time wipe cache, system, data, and dalvik, install version 3.1 of cm9, boot into it, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalv, then install the latest cm9 version. Always works for me. Good luck

Morning all, your all are great. Okay so I am ready to start again. I'm at stock right now so I need to get her all set up again. (Yes my phone is a she) Acvice, I am going to try your method first will let you know in a bit.
Looks like joker's site may be down so I need to try and find the 2 cm9 roms
I have this rom saved already on my computer
beta-0.6.9.1-cm-9.0.0-RC0-sunfire-UNOFFICIAL-signed.zip
Wonder if I should try that one or just wait
After I install CWM 5.2.0.7 do I also need to flash joker's v3 recovery?

Glad someone provided you with that 3.1 link. Looking forward to see if it works out for ya.
By the way, you will know it worked if when you boot up in 3.1 you have working data. Flashing the newer version after that will essentially just update everything.
Deb, I take it the flash of 0.3.1 didn't work? Did you have data and then lose it when you flashed 0.6.9.3? What were your exact steps. I just rooted/unlocked and flashed my f-in-law's new photon and it worked just fine. Lemme know what you did and maybe I can help more

Thanks bullfrog that's nice of you but honestly I'm good now As you know.
I didn't even try to install 0.3.1. I kept thinking about it, seeing I had no luck with 2 others previously so I decided to go the MIUI route and I'm a happy camper with that one. I am a flashaholic for sure, as we all are here. I am thinking though, I am gonna just be happy with where I am at for now. Of course I will most likely decide to give another rom a try at some point.
Of course I am already eyeing a few Samsung Epic touch's on ebay. I hear that one can be a brick just waiting to happen....weeeee I am having way too much fun
I'm glad you made it to MIUI. if you ever want to try cm9 or and of the similar ones (aokp, gummy, paranoid) I would suggest flashing that 0.3.1 first, then updating to the latest cm9, then flashing the variant

Well I am not the expert but I will toss in my 2 cents. I have activated a Droid x2 (MB870) on Page Plus. I SBFed back to 2.3.4 (1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US; Oct 11, 2011), rooted with auto DX2Batchroot_2013.v2.exe to apply Android JB 4.1.2 CM10-Alpha3 ROM by DZK.
I am very happy with CM10 right now; it works fine on Page Plus. JB 4.1.2 is a BIG improvement over 2.3 Gingerbread. With that said, I will not be trying out other ROMs for the time being, since I need a working phone.
All other ROMs to my knowledge require SBF back to 2.3.4 except Eclipse 2.3 so you might want to try it first if you are already on 2.4.5(418).
Other ROMs to consider:>> wwwDOTdroidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-roms/
I am satisfied with my Droid x2 since it meets my needs. 1. G3 data to work on PP; 2. Android 4.x after flashing; 3. Great display with guerrilla glass and not too big to fit in my pocket.
Cons are the Nvidia Tegra 2 GPU on it. The Tegra 2 will not be supported anymore so there is no upgrade to 4.4 KK. XBMC v13 will not work on it either. CM10a3 is in Alpha state and further development on it is iffy. Some have said the video does not work well but I have not experience this. There is a slight shutter when selecting videos from the list, but they played well for me.
If you decide to purchase I will be glad to give you tips I compiled since I just did this Mar 2014.

Ok I bought a new " overstock " Droid X2 it should be here next week. What program do I use to flash this phone? I don't understand "SBF"? Thanks for the help.:good:

System Boot File - SBF
SBF is the System Boot File, an image which restores the phone to its factory state. The latest from Motorola is 2.3.5(1.3.418.MB870.Verizon.en.US; May 8,2012) which is Moto’s Droid x2 version of Gingerbread 2.3 and will probably be what is on your phone. All custom ROMs except Eclipse v2.3 use the earlier Moto release 2.3.4 (1.3.380.MB870.Verizon.en.US; Oct 11, 2011).
I’m curious, how much did you pay for your Droid x2? I took a gamble and picked mine up used, but was very pleased with its condition. I am considering picking up another for cheap .
Rooting and installing was not hard but I spent a lot of time researching finding much of the info dated. Droid hacks were pretty popular in the day so there is much content, but it has shortcomings, so many have moved on. For a 3G phone, which is what I needed, I could not find any better one. My CM10 install did hit a bump by continuously installing with an infinite loop on boot; that cost me some time. I think my fix was to wipe my data in addition to cashe; the first couple of tries when I got the loop I just cleared cashe.
There's some really good information on the Droid x2 in this forum and others. RootJunkyDOTcom seems to be up-to-date and gives good step by step instruction so I suggest checking it out. sd_shadow is another good source to Google. I have other links that I would include but since I am newly registered, I can’t until I have at least posts.
Thanks
I paid $74.09 shipped on ebay. Seems like a fair price. Thanks for the info. My phone should be here on Wednesday. I think Ill go with a 4.1.1 rom. Thanks again.

To Merlin11 and dukkha2:
sd_shadow is one of the Titans on the x2 forum. His links are very current and exhaustive. I hope will monitor this thread over the next few weeks as to assist in flashing the x2. I will follow up with my notes on rooting and flashing CM10a3 tomorrow.
To sd_shadow:
I could use advice on a problem I have with BSR. After flashing CM10a3 I have installed the Patched BSR so I can backup my ROM and I try experiment with the softkey zip mod. BSR shows up as "CM7 System" on my apps screen so I know I have the patched version; however, I get a boot loop of the Moto Boot screen anyway. I have tried installing the other ordinary BSR (shows as System Recovery on the apps screen) but this causes the same infinite loop at the Motorola boot screen.
The loop only occurs when I have the usb charger plugged in to my x2 telling me the problem is the BSR. I am able to recover by pulling the battery and rebooting without the charger. I booted into Motorola's Recovery and wiped the data and cashe. This did not solve the loop issue. I was going to try wiping the Dalvik also but I don't know what this is or how to wipe this.
I have seen your CM10 hijack-boot.zip instructions and considered try this fix. I have not loaded this fix yet because when I compared the etc/hijack-boot.zip on my phone with the one in the hijack-boot.zip file they have the same MD5 which implies CM10a3 already has the updated hijack-boot.zip patch.
Any suggestions?

I missed these instruction for how to install the patch when searching; much appreciated. There are many pages in the CM10 thread, I think the link to the Concise patched BSR should be added to the CM10 instructions in #1 as a final step so users can backup with CWM.
Your link to SBF to 2.3.4 would also be a good addition.
Another addition would be a link to re-calibrate the battery stat mine I screwy right now. It shows 100% then drops to fast. I am researching this.
Everything else is working splendid!

dukk, I just redid this whole upgrade in about 30 min so don't fear it. I can't leave url links but if you google or search in xda on the quoted words you should be able to find the links and files. sd_shadow's links above are very good. Also check out wwwDOTrootjunkyDOTcom.
1. downgrade to 2.3.4
-Follow sd_shadow in response #8 and #10 above.
-don't sweat using the latest RSD, 5.4, 5.6, or the latest 5.7 will all do the job. Just make sure you load the USB drivers first and your phone is connecting to your PC
2. root
-I have been using "DX2Batchroot_2013.v2.exe". try Googling it. It will automatically install BSR you need for ROM install.
-There is a video using the file above but it is for 2.3.5. It doesn't matter, the procedure is exactly the same.
3. Download CM10a3, gapps, softkeys, patched BSR apk, and patched hijack-root.zip files and put on your External SDCARD
-CM10a3 rom
-gapps ("gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip")
-optional softkeys (search "CM10DX2-A3-softkeys.zip")
-patched BSR and hijack-root.zip >>> checkout sd_shadows response #10 above (don't install until #5 below)
4. Install the first 3 zip files in #3 using BSR CM10a3 rom ("cm-10-20130113-UNOFFICIAL-daytona"), gapps ("gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip") and optional softkeys (search "CM10DX2-A3-softkeys.zip") but you must load BSR only after you wipe data
-Make sure you follow the instructions.
-You must wipe data AND cashe or it will hang on the start screen.
5. Load patched BSR along with replacing hijack-root.zip in the /etc folder so you can create a Backup using the patched BSR
-This is spelled out in the link in response #10 above
-you will need a Terminal app. There are free ones in Google Play.
-wipe data and cashe again
6. Load optional apps and backup again.
-I have a battery calibration issue. Check out "Battery calibration (New method?)" in wwwDOTdroidxforumsDOTcom for a fix
-There is a fix to Facebook videos in xda x2 forum.
Good Luck! You really can't brick this x2. SBF can recovery any hack you do. I messed up yesterday and replaced the patched BSR in CM10 with the ordinary one. I don't recommend this! It locked me out of my phone and I couldn't recover. I had to re-SBF. I did get to test the backup I created with BSR and it worked well.

MIUI v5 may be an option for JB 4.2.2
I see a new thread for a beta of MIUIv5 coming soon for the DX2. I am willing to try it. I like CM10 but have been experiencing some shortcoming s such as battery indicator, some apps crash, and videos only playing sound or not able to play at all.
looks like it is build with the same source as cm10, so it will have similar problems.

Moving Good for Enterprise app between roms w/o activating each time

Hi all.
Was wondering if anyone had any experience moving Good for Enterprise around from rom to rom?
I have a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) and was looking to test out Jelly Bean, or at least move to the stock image once available.
Problem is with Good for Enterprise..it's no longer hosted by my company and as an IT admin I used to be able to root, rom, reset my activation pin, etc.
Currently the parent company has a 1 and done activation (very annoying); so if I flash I have to wait for another activation and I think one day they'll just WTF is with this guy?
Anyhow, was wondering if I were to take a backup of it and all its glory with Titanium backup, move to another rom and restore it, would it allow me to preserve my activation? I sort of tried it once, but it would never get any new email upon restore, so I was wondering if its really possible or if I am out of luck there?

I am in the same exact boat. Is there any way to unlock and root, install a rom like bugless beast which is very close to stock, unroot and relock and still maintain the functionality of the rom while being able to reinstall GOOD and get work emails?

You can easily move from rom to rom and keep the activation, you just need to put good in offline mode, quit, backup with TiBu, and then restore it while still in offline mode. once you put it back, you're good to go (this assumes that you can restore app data - which, always having root access myself, I don't know whether is possible without root).

same answer as above. you can do this EASILY as long as you can restore app data - just make sure to be in offline mode, quit the app, back it up, and then restore while still offline mode. e-mails will continue to flow if you do it this way (but, as you point out, not otherwise)

i know you can freeze it , flash the JB rom. play around and restore it back and still get emails.. I am more looking to to leave it on JB permanently and still get the emails. I have come to understand good checks for root access and files such as supersu and busy box. If I were to install the rom, unroot and then restore good I think it would detect root since virtually every toro JB rom requires root to work and has it built into the rom =\

You aren't listening. I'm not talking about freezing it. I'm talking about going offline in the good app...
Then back it up, and restore it to whatever rom you like. You just need to be able to restore app data, which may require root. If you unroot and the rom still works, no reason good shouldn't.
Thanks lordloki77! I've always gotta pester the guy who can issue PINs every time I flash a ROM. Hopefully this all works and I won't have to do it any more. I had thought it was something to do with the Android device ID, which I was able to backup/restore in TB, but that didn't work either.

Once you activate then go off line on the app, you can flash the rom and restore the app. does it continue to work beyond that? I have heard that GOOD periodically checks for a modified build prop, supersu and several other indicators that you have flashed a custom rom or have rooted and will kick you off once it does. I am looking for a permanent solution, not one that will work for a few days while i try a rom then flash back to stock. I don't think it is possible.

I can't answer your question except to say that I'm on a custom rom, custom kernel, and have superuser installed and Good is still receiving emails. It's only been a day, and I haven't changed roms yet since, but that's all I can report.
I dunno why Good gives a crap about whether we're rooted or have a custom rom, and even if it does, it should tell you somewhere instead of just not sending/receiving any more. It appears to work, but with no new messages. As I'm going on a business trip next week, I definitely don't want to mess with Good since I'll absolutely need email access. I'll probably try to restore to a new rom after I return.

Data Plan
Wondering if anyone has Verizon and does NOT have an enterprise data plan to get Good to synch.
I had an iphone with Good on Verizon and just had my normal data plan - everything synced fine.

I know this is a very old thread, but in case anyone is interested, you do not need an enterprise data plan to use Good on Verizon. My organization originally told me that I needed to sign up for enterprise data, but they were wrong.
Anyone able to move good to a different device without reactivation? I've tried moving my TiBu backups and it appears that Good is looking for the specific model or device id..

[Q] Flash Player Issue

I need some help. I have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Version 11.1.115.69) installed on my stock (rooted/unlocked) Verizon Note 2.
On some videos (that are not a mobile version or through the video player) I get this issue where the sound works fine, but the video is completely messed up. It looks like a bunch of colored lines. The lines move as the video goes along. I don't know what to make of it because it only happens on some videos. Also, this has happened with every version of Flash that I have ever tried (which is all of them, as far as I know) with this device. Anyone else have this problem? In any case, can someone on a stock Verizon Note 2 please go to the page below and try and watch the movie? The lines problem has happened every time I have gone to that page and tried to watch the movie, both on the stock browser and with Dolphin Browser. I attached a screenshot of what happens below.
http://viooz.co/movies/19479-monster...sity-2013.html
Any help regarding how to fix this would be most appreciated!
By the way, that movie is an excellent sequel to the first Monsters Inc. and I recommend it.
(And there is no need to freak out about not paying to watch the movie; I am planning to purchase it for my Nephew in the near future.)

I would venture to say that the problem is the site not flash. So far I haven't run across this problem. Try clean wiping and re-flashing. Also what stock rooted ROM are you running?
Hey. Most likely if you are running stock verizon bloated touchwiz, verizon likes to include a file/apk that is hidden that blocks flash player. To get rid of this you generally have to be rooted. After rooted you can either install a custom rom (any will do) OR if you want to stay stock you can use titanium back up and browse through your list off applications. You will noticed a "flash disable" application in red or something like that. Selected it and uninstall it. Once you do that you should have the flash player working properly.

It has happened to me on far too many sites for it to be their fault. I am on 4.1.1 I605VRALJB. I haven't updated my phone since I bought it in December (bad experiences with updates from Motorola). While this problem is frustrating, I don't think I want to wipe my phone just yet.

There are two apps that have the world flash in them. I froze them both with My backup Pro and it didn't fix it. Any idea what the name would be if it didn't have the world flash in it?

What are the names of the apps? you might have frozen the app that runs flash which you want, and then youll have also frozen the app that blocks flash, so over all do you have no flash? (I dont know exacly im just speculating now from what ive read youve done)
edit: maybe try some simple things first, use yet another browser, such as nakedbrowser- its fast and flash works great in it. i would say maybe try unistalling then reinstalling flash, to a newer version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2190346 i forget its not on playstore anymore. mines currently at 11.1.115.48

The names of the apps are:
com.sec.android.app.FlashBarService (v1.0)
and
FlashAnnotate (v0.8.6) and FlashAnnotateSvc (v0.8.4)
I tried that browser and it still had the problem, both with that version of Flash and the newest one. I think I'll need to re-flash eventually.. I was hoping to avoid it.

yeah ok well thats where my knowledge really ends as to what might be happening.
I understand your hesitation, but if flash is a thing you really want then that alone could be a reason to update. I have not had or seen any instability, or experienced any glitchyness myself and I have also only stuck to the touchwiz roms (simply personal preference). 4.1.2 on this device, well there isnt anything to fear, no getting burned here. lots o great roms to check out.
edit: oh and one last word if you want to stay as you are. did you try the 115.48 flash version?

ok I havent really worried about flash i guess on the custom roms there must be some libraries or plugins or something to have flash fully functional.
Make a full nandroid back up of what your on now. Im not 100% positive but if you want you can then just flash back to 4.1.1. Make sure you restore with the same version of the custom recovery you backed up with if you want to go baack.
You should probably also search that question. I believe it has been answered several times. I might have seen it in passing.

Right, because the backup backups the OS as well as your phone memory. That has always boggled my mind. So I could just restore that and be good.
One last question: When installing this update, I probably don't want to be unlocked, right? I know I can temporarily unroot so no problem there.

yes your nandoid will save the image of your system and data(if thats what you mean by phone memory) so youll restore you to that state.
no if your bootloader unlocked and all that, leave it. I recommend looking over droidstyle guide too, i usually do every now and again just to refresh my mind. You can simply flash a stock 4.1.2 rom check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387635 so look for one that is basically untouched except for being rooted and unlocked still. You can also try out any 4.1.2 rom too
Nah, jumping between threads is fun!
But seriously, is it completely necessary to factory reset before flashing that?

Yup. Sorry for late resposnse. So um id suggest if you havent don anything yet. Update to latest recovery proabaly twrp since 8ts easy to use and it seems to be the most versatile (but some customs roms prefer clockwork) then back up efs modem boot system data for a full image of your 4.1.1 so you can be fully backed up. Then do the factory data reset wipe cache and dalvik in recovery after. Af6er wipe then flash rom.
Since you are rooted, you can download the latest version of flash and run it from the stock browser. Chrome has issues with it. I prefer the stock browser as it does exactly what Chrome does but with flash support. And I would suggest atleast upgrading to a 4.1.2 rom. There were alot of bug fixes between the 2.
I'm pleased to report that I flashed that 4.1.2 ROM and the flash player issue is gone.
I was pleasantly surprised to see my sdcard0 remain untouched after I wiped data from custom recovery.

I think the problem lies with the website. Viooz.co is full of malwares and other viruses. I hate those pop up ads which just pop out on just one click.
There are many websites which you can rely upon :
