First of all I've been really stressed about this issue now for a week..... I recently went GSM for my DNA, but right before that I noticed my home dock and Car mode symbols popping up on my notification bar. It at first would just bring up the stock docking screen or car mode screen. I assumed it was my charger connections being dirty. I cleaned those on both cord and phone. Still no change although I noticed that if I wiggled the cord I could pop both modes on and off, figuring the cord was shot I went out and bought a new cord. Still no change although wiggling it did nothing now. I then proceeded to disable both modes. This did nothing but cause me to lose other functions like my speakers not working some buttons bringing me to wrong pages and what not. I started searching online for solutions and found a ton of recommendations on apps to stop this from happening. Found a car one for free that works great, but I still cannot stop the home dock from constantly popping up and forcing my wifi to turn on (despite the fact that I've turned off all notifications and forgotten all previously used networks) and refreshing all my apps and web pages while i'm using them. My phone is not rooted and I think that would be my next logical step, but I've never rooted a phone before and don't really know where to start.
Can someone help????

Okay, so let me just start out by saying this: I bought my Eris in February of this year, and I've loved it up until the end of November, when I started having problems. First of all, whenever I connect my phone to a charger, be it USB or my wall charger, my phone starts to act really funky. For instance: when I plug it on and go to use the keyboard, for some reason the cursor keeps moving to the left (for example: I tried to type "look" earlier, and it instead kept scrolling to the left as to where "kool" was spelled out - funny, but not very practical). Also, I am running ForShedYo (the latest version) and everything keeps FC'ing on me and my phone is running overall very sluggishly. Does anyone know what the root of these problems may be?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Josh
This sounds like what happened with my last Eris. Try plugging only the phone end of the cable in, then hold the cable by the blocky piece the connector sticks out of and gently wiggle. If you notice the scrolling jumps more when you do this, it is a hardware malfunction, I believe the trackball sensor is shorting out. You're still under warranty you can take it in store, show themamd get a new Eris.

+1 what USSENTERNCC1701E said. This is what happened to my very first Eris, which I had replaced in August for multiple reasons (the speaker quit working, too). At first it was intermittent so that I thought I was going crazy or the phone gremlins had invaded my phone.
I have recently (the last 3 days) started experiencing some really strange Twilight Zone type stuff with my phone. It originaly started when my phone suddenly went into "Driving Mode". My phone's screen now switches on for no reason and stays on indefinitely. If I switch the screen off with a quick press off the side power button - the screen then stays off - like it's shutdown. Nothing I press or do can bring it back on again. Requiring me to battery pull - and then the whole process restarts. It's very intermittent and doesn't seem to be related to any particular app.
Once my phone is back on, the battery has dropped considerably (screenshots attached). I've been Running Cognition S2 1.51 for a few months now without any hassles.
The phone initially struggled to connect to any of the Samsung chargers I have - it appears to charge now, but connecting to the PC doesn't initiate the MTP app anymore and only charges. This is my baby and I'm really concerned there's a massive hardware prob. Just not sure how it came about as I didn't do anything different from what I've done in the last few months. Any help would be massively appreciated as I'm now using my old wave and it's just not the same as my SGS2 - like being back in the dark ages.
I've reflashed a nan-backup from before the problem started and it still does the above. Is it my Ram? My CPU?...
Please let me know if there is any other info that may help you- help me.
I've started to have the same problem a few days ago too, randomly my phone will enter driving mode and voice recognition keeps coming up randomly too. I have also been getting weird USB messages saying that things are connected when they aren't.

Well I cleaned the inside of my phones Micro-USB port with a new dry clean toothbrush (asd mentioned in a forum somewhere) and that seems to have sorted out the non-connecting issues. You may want to try that... Though I'm still having huge problems with the screen turning on by itself and staying on indefinitely - and the phone blacking out shortly after. Give the toothbrush cleaning thang a go - could solve your problem.

Have you found a solution to this as yet? I've tried absolutely everything I can find, in all available forums; with no success.
Anyone?
have same problems :x
YOU IZ NOT ALONE!!!!
Hi, I have a wi-fi Flyer (16GB) and I am on stock GB 2.3.4
I did root it and got clockwork and all is fine.
I am having problems with sound though, if I select Fast Boot under "Power" settings" tablet starts fast, but there is no sound on built in speaker while headphone jack works fine.
If I uncheck Fast Boot all is ok, but tablet takes long time to boot up which is annoying.
Can someone give me a solution to this issue as I don't know where else to turn for help.
I really like android 2.3.4 as I hear if I move to Honey Comb I cant use my SD card anymore.
Thanks in advance.
Hmm, that's odd. I haven't heard that one before. Have you tried a factory reset?
Can't think of any other ideas, except that.

Hubba-whaaaat? I've never heard any such thing. I think people have trouble maintaining GPS lock, is the only pervasive HC bug I've heard of. Also some feel HC is laggy compared to GB. But my belief is that a lot of that lag was caused by people updating via OTA and keeping their user data. I did a clean install (globatron's method) and the performance is comparable to GB.
Those are the only reasons I can think of to stay on GB.
Thanks for reply redpoint73,I really wouldn't like to do factory reset, but I will do it if no one else heard of this as that means its something on my end.
When I rooted it and did a clockwork on it I did make a backup and I did restore to it yesterday hoping it will fix it.
When I made original backup all was well so it does make sense that something collected along the way did this. Your suggestion seems valid, but I will wait just in case someone has a solution to this.
Thanks again man
So I went and did the factory restore and car dock would auto-start for no reason. I think I had it disabled before so I never noticed that its auto-starting by itself. ( thus no sound from tablet speaker as it thought its docked)
I went ahead and installed a custom rom (FlyHigh) and it's doing the same thing.
Refined symptoms/findings:
This tablet seems to have an issue with charging port and thinks its docked ( does it dock through charging port?)
Tablet charges fine but sometimes it will not give multi option upon connecting to a PC. (this might be also due the fact that I am using HTC Sensation data cable).
Please if anyone has an idea what I am saying let me know.
Thanks.
Yes, it docks through the charge/sync port. That would make sense, considering the symptoms (sound issue, car dock screen, and sync issue). Seems like the port is damaged, such as the pins bent, port becoming loose from the board, etc. The fact the problem persists after factory reset and different ROM reinforces the theory that its a hardware issue. But its odd that turning fast boot off/on made a difference (is that still the case?).
Data cable doesn't matter. I've used my Flyer countless times with an HTC phone sync cable, and generic MicroUSB cables, and those work just fine.
Any evidence of damage if you look in the port?
There are apps on the Market to disable the car dock screen, as well as reroute the sound, that might help you workaround the problem, if you don't find a real solution.
Hey man, thanks for reply.
When there is no sound I have to disable fast boot and do a reboot, then sound comes back. (rebooting with fast boot on will not bring sound back)
If I use tablet without fast boot it does same thing, sometimes within an hour sometimes almost a day.
( no clue why, but if I leave car docking on auto start when docked it comes on screen and that's when sound goes away)
If I could find away to disable car docking completely that would be my solution as I also am suspecting on that connector.
Things that I observed on power connector: I plug it to charge (not usb) and look at light that indicates charging. I slowly wiggle cable to see will that light turn off, but no; it stays lit. Looking at the charging port it looks fine visually.
Any idea how to disable car docking or uninstall it?
I am now on "FlyHighROM-v1.2" which is GB 2.3.4
Thanks again.
There are Market apps that should be able to disable the car dock app:
Disable Car Home
Car Mode Off
No Dock
(probably others)

I will try them and report back in few days.
Thanks
Ok I tried couple and no joy.
I even tried running it with disabled fast boot, but while watching my daughter play rayman sound just went off.
What would happen if I somehow delete that car dock service? whats its name? and what is the best way to try that?
Too bad. Think I've heard of one of those apps disabling car dock on one of my HTC devices (maybe my One X), so thought it might work on the Flyer as well.
Freezing with Titanium Backup is my preferred method to disable apps, as you can easily unfreeze if disabling it causes issues. Don't know what the app/apk is named.

So I bought my phone from AT&T just as the new M8 was coming out (got a good deal as a result) and ever since that day its been dependable, efficient, and never lagged a single second.
But then the HTC Sense 6 ROM started to act up, opengl issues, and various bugs that drove me insane! So I switched to CM11, (btw no IR or radio or hardware encoding support on it) and all went well until about 2 weeks ago.
Suddenly my phone is sluggish at times, especially on switching applications, and the battery life went from around 10 hours average usage, to 5... Now its down to 3... Not only that but the phone is HOT!
If I even watch a Twitch stream, or YT video, or play a game, or even navigation, camera, chrome, anything with it (including listening to music), the device gets to 43 degrees C. That is with the device out in the air, passively cooling.
If I leave it on a surface, with the back covered up (like in my pocket, or watching a video in my bed) it will go past 50 C, and climb further! At one point in my car while driving, (was charging and navigating, aux was connected so i could get audio navigation through my speakers) I suddenly realized I had past my exit 5 miles back, and had to stop to check the phone...
The phone was not responding to my wake button presses, nor holding it down, it was not outputting directions, and the red LED light was softly lit (not flashing) so immediately I unconnected the charger, and aux cable. The phone still didn't respond, holding power + vol up soft resetting it worked. But what struck me most was how blooming hot it was! It was NOT in direct sunlight, nor was the display on. It practically burned my hands! I had to look up how to soft reset the phone, using my old LG Nitro HD which is my GPS tracker for my car (nifty setup btw).
Now I had an LG Nitro HD which did this sort of thing 24/7 and I could not STAND that phone, since you had to baby the device every second to keep it cool, otherwise you would need to restart.
I have seen numerous threads online about the HTC One getting toasty, and it has before for me, but NEVER THIS HOT! Also this only JUST started happening (its not related to CM11 since I had a backup of HTC's ROM and it did the same thing (in fact it was even slower x.x)
Now here is my question : is this a normal occurrence for smartphones of this age? I think its 1-2 years old... Its past the warranty I suppose (still have the card, and box btw) Is this something that I just have to deal with?
I have used the phone alot while it was charging, and left it on a charger for a long time after it was fully charged... (i thought newer phones had a disconnect for charging)
What bothers me is how suddenly the phone has become stricken with this... problem. It has only been 2 weeks, and battery life is effectively halved, and I am afraid to even USE navigation anymore (unless I hold the phone up infront of an AC vent, which I did all the way home >.< not a fun task since its a manual!)
Thanks in advance!
I had this issue with my M7 for T-Mobile. I would factory reset it and things would be okay for a while until I logged into all of my common apps and realized it would happen again... Some apps make the phone work harder and a lot more on the M7... The way I fixed this was I removed apps I didn't really use and make sure to not be logged into apps that I don't commonly use... The other thing I did was restart after using any video and audio apps... One more thing was I turned on the power saver option with vibrate and cpu unchecked and my phone started acting better...
Edit: if you have insurance through at&t I would go back to complete stock (get rid of tampered flag and red warranty warning included) and let them know it's freezing up. They should send you a replacement and it may help you out...

Yeah actually I just factory resetted the phone, and its absolutely normal now... Furthermore the USB speed is no longer 1mb/s and instead is back up to USB3 speeds!
BTW I did a firmware AND software factory reflash / reset.
is there any way to shut off that beep? my wireless charger randomly looses connection occasionally and beeps in the middle of the night... not often, but enough! id really like to kill that sound, any suggestions?
I don't believe there's a way besides putting your phone on silence. I use the Quiet Hours setting to put mine on silence during sleep time, and create exceptions for certain contacts.
ive got the quiet hours set and it still beeps? i thought that would do it, but no luck on my phone?
You know, I stand corrected. Quiet Hours still doesn't disable the charging sound. Only silent mode shuts it off.
That is the #1 reason I want to root mine... I'm holding out for samsung pay though. I have a lot of different wireless charging pads and they are hit and miss as far as the connection. However, the one I have at my bedside is an official samsung pad and it never seems to lose connection as long as it is centered. Perhaps switching pads might fix your night problem.
