Should I buy this phone? - Micromax A116

I'm looking to buy a phone for around this price. The Flipkart sale lets me buy this phone for around 11.5k, and spec wise it seems worth it.
Do any of you have any horror stories about this? (Mainly after sales service issues)
Any major faults with this phone because of which I should avoid it?
Any suggestions for a phone under 13k?

After sales is horrible..... I got the phone after 60days.

I am using this phone for about 4 months and its working excellent. If you r not a fresher, then you can tackle most of the issues yourself.
I'll recommend this phone.
Go for it!

As the above post said if u know your phone completely you can solve any software issue on your own you just gotta know it! and even if you dont then you can always ask on xda and also google your problem....there is always a solution for software probs
All in all cHD is an awesome phone....never gave me any problem

Its the best phone in market. Trust me i have bought it after researching like for 6 months. Its been 2 months now and it works fine no issues yet. Did all experiments like rooting, custom Roms and it has a active developer community. What more do you wish for?
Happy to help.

which model??

Guys I plan to buy this & want to the following.
How good is the A-GPS? I plan to use this for map navigation.
Does it support 2 way call recording natively or does it have a patch to support 2 way call recording? I use Galaxy call recorder app on my 2 yr old samsung (Chinese rom) & it works fine I need this feature to be working before deciding for this phone.

A-gps and navigation are good I used it to reach my exam center once in my city worked really well. I wouldn't say its best but its gets the job done. And about call recording, it support call recordings during call you get the option to record.
Happy to help.

Thanks for confirming that it supports call recording with native dialer, I am reading lot of negative reviews about micromax service support which is holding me from purchasing as of now.
Whats your experience with micromax service support, how long have you been using this phone?

Best deal for 13k approx.

If you are willing to spend 13k, this is the best phone. I purchased this phone 4 months back after lot of research. Even if you are a fresher, this phone isn't bad with its original ROM. If you know about playing with Custom ROMs nothing like it. Only drawback is the poor customer after sales service. If you are ready to risk that, just go for it.

I know after Sales Service is damn poor. Still I took the risk. I haven't found any problem since last 4 momths.

I am happy with this phone. In performance this phone is better than many Sammy and lg and HTC phones. My only unhappy points are:
1) the camera could have been better
2) cpu architecture, we don't have cyanogenmod
3) the speaker positioning is horribly wrong, added to the weak speakers makes it difficult.

A-GPS work better then in Samsung Galaxy Grand, but Samsung Galaxy S4 find satellites much better the A116

If possible I would suggest holding off buying the phone for now, since the latest contender(the moto g) will be available from January with an affordable price tag.
The development(custom roms, kernels etc) of the phone would be immense. Though the lack of an sd slot might put off a few buyers.
Another option though would be lenovo p780. If you can save up another 5k or so this would be the best phone you can get keeping battery life in mind. I charge it twice a week! It is one of the most hassle-free phones Ive brought. I get screen-time of ~16-17 hrs on a single charge, this is with wifi on always and screen brightness >50%. My canvas HD struggles to reach ~4 hrs of screen time with the lowest brightness!
The only disappointment is the lack of development for the device.

Id say dont go for it as LG optimus L9 is a much better option you will love it and development on xda is very good i currently have the device and im running cm11 on it

These threads amuse me. Here's 5 phones, pick one. And asking in the SGS2 section no less. That's like asking a bunch of Mac owners if they should buy a Mac or a PC.
Clearly you're open to a new carrier because you're choosing between 5 phones. If you had to stay with a specific carrier, that already cuts your choices down to 2 or 3 since the SGS2 and Sony handsets don't support the same 3G bands as the HTCs. Your country will factor in as well since launch availability, pricing, and local carrier discounts will incentivize some phones over others.
Those are just some of the considerations that don't even have anything to do with the phones themselves. Of those 5 choices, how many here have had 20 minutes hands-on with more than 2 of them? I haven't. Most of the opinions here will likely come from hours of aggregating editorial reviews. While those are valuable in their own way, asking a forum pales in comparison to doing that research on your own. Also, you can bet that almost no one here has played with a Sensation yet.
OP, I don't mean to be a douche but nobody here will offer a more meaningful opinion than one you could come up with on your own.

If you want a future proof phone say atleast for a year or two..
then the SGS 2 and Sensation are your best bet..
SGS2- you will be able to root and make sure you have the latest software thansk to XDA
Sensation - will not be able to root yet (locked bootloader) until some brilliant XDA members manages to crack it
I am considering the Sensation as I feel I hopefully wouldn't need to root it for atleast a year or two by which time somebody might have cracked its boot loader
The milestone has been out almost 2 years and the bootloader is still not cracked

I can get a high end phone price isnt a issue just need a phone which can last for a year or two, should be durable i am not a fan of rooting devices so i dont really need that until it is necessary to meet the techonolgy in shape of updates.
Sony phones look like toys with good feature, HTC looks solid, i have Samsung Wave at the moment though it has great features but the Bada OS which is not cracked yet, so i want to try Android now.
So far by reading reviews, user comments, watching videos i have found SGSII best but on the other hand there are people complaining about battery, sound, lag, reboots etc etc which is really confusing.
Note: I am from Pakistan so contract thing doesnt work here, i will get a Sim Free phone by paying full price of it thats why it is really necessary to do a research and ask for guidance.
How about the Google Nexus S (made by Samsung).
Always reqcieved the latest Android updates straight from Google.
Very stable.
NFC reader.
Many Custom ROMs.
Identical hardware to the Samsugn Galaxy S i9000 (4" AMOLED i9020, or sLCD i9023)
The phone feels like a phone in your hands.
No lag unlike the Samsung i9000.
About 350 Euros last time I checked.
handtec.co.uk post internationally.
Sadly, no microSD card, no FM Radio. Lacks some hardware enabled codecs for video, but still plays most and can play other formats using software decoding.
The hardware of Nexus S isnt outdated ? I guess most of the future applications will support dualcore phones.
Have mine for two days now and I must say this one of the best phones I got my hands on.
Battery life is amazing. Camera it's amazing.samsung's email client and screen is fantastic.
And 1.2ghz dual prossessor is so so fast.. Can't even compare to htc vision oc 1.8ghz cm7.

We get it, your battery life sucks. Take a look at your apps, because the majority of users say the battery life is great. I've done no tweaking except freezing a few hubs, everything still syncs in the background and I'm sitting on 92% now, unplugged at 7am this morning. (It's now 2:20pm here.)
I just got my sgs2, my previous phone was a desire but I miss htc sense already. But I am hoping someone will port sense to the sgs2 soon there already is a mostly working port for the sgs1

Hi all, Thanks in advance.,

Is this phone good to be bought or can I wait for another few months?
some people say that SGS3 is not worth the money is that so? where as SGS2 is good.

The Galaxy S3 is worth every penny I paid for it. It is also the most powerful phone on the market. It is a purchase that you won't regret.
The screen is hard to read in direct sunlight. The other issue I'm having is that it's hard to stop touching it.
I had an x10 way back about 3 years ago. That phone is like a motor scooter compared to this Ferrari.
The s2 is still an excellent choice if you want an upgrade while keeping costs down but bear in mind the s3 will last you longer before you need another upgrade.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
You might also look at the Galaxy Nexus which Google sell for $350. It's only dual core, but it gets latest updates directly from Google, so unlike that Sony, even two years from now you will most likely get latest Android version.
However, if you want more storage space and a high quality camera, then the S3 is a better choice. It's going cheap on ebay also. The current retail price is more than I'm willing to pay because I'm not confident of its build quality.

5" Full HD. wow. I don't think it will be sold outside china.
I'm planning to buy one of these incredibly cheap FullHD phones, too
The are the Neo N003, the UMi X2 and the iOcean X7 (favorite). Of course you can purchase them from outside of china with aliexpress or Taobao agents (+Commision fees and shipping). Still a BIG BANG for the buck!
The are not available, yet. But soon (end of March or beginning of april). Please do not Pre-Order! The prices are much higher than (80-100% more) in china and never ever pre order with aliexpress! Only order when it's really available.
I hope that a lot of developpers will get one of these phones, too.

Got mine a couple days ago. Running miui v5, tried a couple of the other roms floating around. Does not come rooted, but is easily rooted. All roms tried so far have a little difficulty pushing video to the fhd screen but its not terrible, just a ms of latency during complete screen changes - in non-swipey activities its perfect. Am in Canada, and the only cellular carrier it will connect to (via 2g) is Rogers. The thin plastic case makes the phone feel very light, but it is a very attractive phone, especially with the bright hd display. The backlight behind the soft keys (menu, home, back) is a little dim and maybe not centered properly on my unit.

Nice to see someone who speaks english and has the Elite version. I want to buy one and just need some feedback on a couple of things. 1st is it really an OGS screen (laminated) so you dont see the LCD diplay light leaks like the Youth version and does the back cover have gaps (not tight fiting) like the Youth version and lastly whats the battery life like on it plus camera quality both audio and vdieo??
I will appreciate your feedback as it will go a great deal in making me decide on whether to buy it.
Thanks
I have the Youth version, but have 2 more bright spots on the display at the lower right corner. It's very disturbing. I can send the phone back, but will take about 2 months to send forth, repair and shipped back, so I'm confused what to do.
does anybody know if there is a cwm or twm for iocean x7 hd? any suggestion for root or custom rom?thanx

[Q] Getting the Xperia Z Ultra since no HTC One Max anytime soon

much to my chagrin, the HTC One Max will not be released anytime soon (prior to October). i desperately want a new device and i've decided to get the XZU.
i'm currently on StraightTalk/AT&T and from what i've read, there is no current version of the XZU that will provide 4G, but HSPA+ is attainable.
i stream a great deal of music to my phone, surf the net a lot, a few movies here and there and talk on the phone for less that 200 minutes a month.
- for those of you here in the US, and particularly those on StraightTalk, is there a problem when trying to stream content to your device?
- which model are you using?
- where should i purchase this device from to avoid the dreaded blank screen problem.
- and do you recommend I wait for the 4g variant, instead?
any additional feedback would be most appreciated, as well.

Was really charmed to hear HTC was making a "phablet", but unfortunately a 5..9" can't replace a tablet, I would still need to play around with my N7 and bring both of them. I hope one day I can have a HTC phone again, but seems that since the Sensation XE they never developed something that was matching my needs :crying:
Build quality, design and HTC UI are top notch and devs are at its level. Between a NG3 and One Max no hesitation go Max, but XZU and Max are really different in size.
The extra half an inch on the ZU is great, ask my wife!!
To be very honest I have the Xperia Z , the S4 The Htc one , optimus G pro ( NO I DONT own a mobile shot )
I have not been so pleased with any of the above than the ZU , the best smartphone out there , yes you will miss the IR blaster and flash on this but considering the general daily usage this phone just is the best , 0 viewing angles , its far better than the S4 and the G pro with color reproduction I am so happy sony finally sorted this out... with the Z1 the videos I saw looks like it lacks still the calibration as it still uses the same screen as ZU but has some viewing angles problem must be because of calibration though. but withe slimness of the phone and the amazing battery life and performance multitasking becomes an easy task.
This is defntely recomended above Note 3 simple reason the Note 3 has tooooooo many software gimicks which in the end you wont use at the same time no one to sit and teach you all those and you would nt have time either or all those features hog battery and to save battery you will end up turning them off...
That's good to hear. Is it safe to assume that waiting until the 13th for the LTE varient is a better idea? Or is getting the 6802 with only HSPA+ not really a noticeable difference?

- for those of you here in the US, and particularly those on StraightTalk, is there a problem when trying to stream content to your device?
- which model are you using?
- where should i purchase this device from to avoid the dreaded blank screen problem.
- and do you recommend I wait for the 4g variant, instead?
any additional feedback would be most appreciated, as well.

Hi Don't make the mistake my Mother made, when she and bought the Xperia Z Ultra instead of waiting for the Note 3 like I told her. It turns to be a big mistake, she can not swap out battery, the battery life is so short, there is not stylus built in, she constant have to remember to carry some pencil, there is no wacom technology, she can not sketch nature like she can with the Note 3, she can not put the Ultra in her pants and walk or sit down with it, it is so impractical. There is no flashlight like, so she can not use the phone as a torch, which is vital for at night time, she fell yesterday because of the lack of flashlight and nearly killed herself. Also the camera is only 8M. Also there is no IR blaster, so she can't not use the phone as a remote control for her TV, she have to use the original TV controller, which is inconvenient because she have to turn no the light to see the keys on the TV remote controller, which means she have to get up and turn on the light, which is bad for her because she's got backache. Also she like to watch horror movies, the LCD on the Ultra can not display true black like the Amoled.

It just your mom don't like it. That's all.
I was going to wait and get the LTE version but then I did speed tests of my HSPA+ model and still got 15-20mbps frequently
I was getting 19 mbps yesterday which is quite good, sure it is not LTE speeds I was getting around 50 mbps on my galaxy s4 when I had it but I can live with the slower speeds I ended picking up a used c6802 for a very good price less then half of what I can order the LTE model for and I am very happy with it especially after updating to the 510 firmware the battery life is much much better

Lol, you forgot to mention how she's now on dialysis and has Parkinson's disease, all because of the Z Ultra.

Sony Smartwatch 2?

Is anyone using a sony smartwatch with the note 3? Does this even work?
I would find this a great combination since the smartwatch is way superior to the galaxy gear.

Have not used the Sony 2 but no calling capability or camera so I do not think it even comes close and the gear is only just out so hopefully lots more to come.
I read that even Samsung executive's aint as happy with the gear as hoped because it limited in ways thats too late to change, but they are going to make a 2014 edition or V2 which is already designed, so for the cost of the gear I'd wait at least until January and see what happens.

I hope you enjoy it but for me it's not even close
Hey don't shoot the messenger dude, like I said its what I read, and it was on Engadget's blog and I trust their tech news,
But just to add abit of spice to my reply, yea I no what it can do and im very optimistic about what it will do via firmware etc but the hardware issue of battery life is not an easy work around, maybe for modders & hackers but not the general customers.

Let me guess read it on the internet? I keep finding most people never had a smart watch to compare to. I have been wearing a moto Activ for the last year and this is a great up grade of that smart watch. There is no "smart watch" without a phone, all of them are dependent on a phone for updates.
Notifications work really well able to read most of my emails and decide if I want to read the rest. This works best at work and home as the phone can now sit across the room on a charger. The problems come from the gmail app which I don't use. I have several email address and like to check them in one place.
Speaker phone works really well, was quite surprised but the phone allows for the Bluetooth headset and watch to be connected at the same time. If I answer on headset audio goes there, if i answer on watch audio goes there.
You can install more than 10 apps but can only have 10 apps on quick launcher. There are apps released that allow you to create your own watch faces and details, another one looks at the local pictures from the phone on the watch. I would also guess that it will be streaming video from the phone to the watch shortly.
Photo quality is really pretty good if lighting is ok.
Almost forgot battery life is about 2 days and fully charges in about an hour. The moto started out lasting only a day and via firmware updates got it to 2-3 days about the same time as the Galaxy Gear.
Finally, I don't expect an iwatch to support other vendors. When I bought the moto activ it didn't support any other phones but motorola's. You had to run a special app or the watch was stand-alone, if the app crashed (did often) it was standalone. The Gear and Galaxy just work together much better than the combination of vendors. The gear will support other Samsung phones later this month. If I was Samsung I wouldn't support every android phone, if you want a Gear get a Galaxy!

Well i don't agree battery life on smart phones can be very poor yes of course i would like my phone to last a week (charge on Sunday night) and a smart watch to last a month but technology is just not able to do that we except that with phones and I think if we want the benefits of a s watch some of us will except that about them as well, don't wait for gear 2 or I-watch battery technology is just not able to give us longer Without Taking Out Features

I do totally agree with you, but the waiting aspect which I pointed to was for the case of what maybe announced in the next 8 weeks, and if nothing then I buy one myself but as I said the gear isn't cheap so if a new version is only 2-3 months away then I'd rather wait for the latest.
