Hi, i've tried all day, and can't manage to backup the EFS for my S3 I9300T.
Tried this walkthrough from droidviews.
Didn't work for me. Everything worked except that there was no file saved to my pc. The EFS Pro program created a folder called EFSProBackup, but there was nothing in it (not even hidden files). It also created the same folder on my SD card, but nothing in it.
The only thing that i did differently was the installation of BusyBox. There was no "smart install" option. I just didn't tick the advanced install.
See attached images for screenshots of my EFS backup procedure. EDIT: ok maybe not, not allowed by XDA.
I tried SA Manager which is supposed to backup EFS to your phone, but it says "Your device is not supported. Only for Samsung, Sony, ....". WTF?

Just tried Ktool. Claimed it worked, then said i need to run Check EFS Backup to make sure all is good. Ran this, and it said:
sdcard/efs.img found

I looked in the files and there is an EFS .tar file, and .img file. But i don't know why there's no .bin file....?

Use PhilZ recovery it as a option to backup efs
I'm having the same problems as the OP regarding EFS Professional (no backup file appears in the folder on my PC despite the application claiming it has been moved successfully) and kTool (receiving the "/!\ nv_data.bin NOT FOUND in backup!!!" error as well). Are there any known solutions?

And it does "complete". The only file it is backed up as is a .md5 file. Is this all that's needed? Also the file is 0 bytes.... normal?
Tried to copy this file to my PC, but it didn't appear when phone plugged in via usb. So i just ran it again, and selected the external card (that i don't use with the phone) as the location.
I tried PhilZ recovery, but it didn't work i think, can't remember what the problem was though.

Sorry i'm confused Why are you using terminal emulator to locate the img I thought you objective was to backup efs which it sounds like PhilZ recovery did?...Just save one copy to your pc and leave a copy on your ext SD card.Your computer should recognize the copy on the SD card.. If the computer is not seeing the copy on SD card use a card reader instead of usb or copy the the file to a online cloud storage dropbox etc and download to your pc from there.
Also to see the file you would probably need a root explorer not the file explorer that comes with android..Or and PhilZ recovery stores the backup in clockworkmod/backup/ efs backup on your ext sd card

I just used Samsung Tool to create an EFS backup. Choosing the internal SD option worked but locating the files is a little trickier (I used ES File Explorer in root mode to navigate from the device's root folder through data/media/0/Samsung Tool). The external SD option worked and was easier as it just created a folder called "Samsung Tool" on my SD card with the .img and .md5 files. I then just plugged my phone in to my PC and copied them off from there.

No PhilZ Recovery hasn't backed up EFS. Sorry, i can't even install PhilZ recovery. I was following this thread:

Regarding PhilZ recovery you are doing things totally wrong you are making a simple job harder! Forget about terminal emulator and .img you flash Philz either with another revovery or odin. If you flash with odin you need to download a .tarmd5 file ftom PhilZ site or if you flash with cwm you need a .zip file. .I suggest you read a bit more or you may brick your device..Can't go into more detail at work right now but will look in on the thread later..Please read the stickies and forget about terminal emulator you are doing it the hard way.[emoji1]

You install philz recovery with Odin, go read the main thread on how.
Once in Philz you select custom backup and choose efs partition.

Ok thanks guys, i've managed to install it! However, i've done the EFS backup, and i go into clockworkmod/backup/.efs_backup and there's nothing in there. I'm using ES File Explorer in root mode. PhilZ shows that the backup is successful, and lists the location and the name of the .img file
EDIT: If i bring up properties for the folder "backup", it says it contains 11 files and 3 folders, totalling 50mb.
So how can these files be viewable in order to restore with ODIN? Can i just transfer the Backup folder to my PC, and ODIN will automatically be able to use the invisible files in there?
You can restore it by your recovery only..go in custom restore and select efs

Not sure why ES File Explorer is not showing the files I use root explorer and have never had any problems with it seeing files..it sounds like the files are there (try another explorer) also efs backups can be made in different ways depending on what program makes them Philz backup makes them in .tar ( I think) but they can also be in .tar.gz or .img.gz
Just copy the folder to your computer also leave a copy on your phone (you can never have too many backups of efs) and see if the computer can see the files.. my computer's both windows 7 and 8 can see them fine Also just use Philz recovery to restore them in the future if you ever need to
If you've set es file explorer to hide hidden files then it will do just that.

Ohhh hell yeah! Thanks boomboomer. Can see those files now. I hadn't set ES File Explorer to hide hidden files, but that is the default setting.
I went into EFSProBackup folder too, but still no files in there.
I still can't see the files when i go to transfer to my computer. How do i load invisible files in Odin?

If you can see those files on Explorer. At least try upload them with mega Dropbox or smt at least
Hello experts, I am a completely newbie. I just bought the HTC One m8, and I managed to install twrp, I then watched a video from youtube which showed me how to back up my stock ROM into the *internal* unit using twrp. The video did not mentioned I have to copy the file to the micro SD card first. The video continues to wipe the internal drive, and then do a restore (from the sd card). Unfortunately, when I do the same, wipe the internal drive, and then try to do a restore, only to find that the image is no where to be found in the internal drive. I didnot have a backup in the sd card. I try to look for the image file in the internal drive and I couldn't find the backup file. I came to this site and from the "collection of stock backups" thread and downloaded the nandroid backup for my HTC One m8 which is the "CID BS_US001". I then use my PC to copy this 2.22.1540.4.zip file into my sd card, put the sd card into the HTC unit and go into recovery mode in the twrp (down volume and power), and try to do a restore via the restore button, but it does not work. I don't know exactly the procedures I need to take to restore this stock ROM back to my phone. I want to thank you for providing this file, and I hope the experts here will not find my question a nuisance. I really needed help, I try to take the unit to a shop and they couldn't help. I now have the backup image file downloaded from collection of stock backups. I know the answer is pretty easy, please help. Thanks.

What part of it doesn't work? Can you not find the file? Does it give an error message? Info like that will be very helpful for us to help you.
Thank you es0tericcha0s, I put the 2.22.1540.4.zip file in the sd card. This is the nandroid zip file I downloaded in COLLECTION of Stock backup's for my HTC One m8 model. I did not use the linux adb command to push the file into the sd card, I just just Windows 7's file copy method to copy the zip file to the card. I supposed this means the same thing. I use twrp recovery method, and have already installed the twrp tool into my HTC, the HTC is *unlocked* but I am not sure if it is rooted as well. I booted the HTC by pressing the down volume button and the power button, I went into recovery mode. When I clicked the restore icon in the twrp menu, the internal storage is empty, there is a message that saids internal storage (25404 mb) at the top, I supposed that can't be my original backup nandroid file (too small), the nandroid file downloaded in COLLECTION of Stock backup is located in my sd card (the zip file). I don't know how to find the zip file in the sd card (what button combinations to press etc). There are 3 buttons in the bottom of the restore screen, the middle button when pressed, bring me into the screen that saids in the bottom updating partition details .... Full SELinus support is present (without the usb cable hooking to the PC).
So to summarized, my questions are:
1). does the 2.22.1540.4.zip file in my sd card is all I need for the backup image, do I need to unzip the file first and then change a few things, renaming boot.emmc.win to boot.img, etc.
2). how to get to the sd card to select this file to do a full restore.
3). Does the file 2.22.1540.4.zip found in COLLECTION of Stock backup truly is a saved file to restore, i.e., the actual original backup file. It seems big, at 1.5 gb.

Ok, now I see where you are at. This should be easier than you think. So here's what you'll want to do:
Reboot to TWRP
Go to Backup ( I know, counterintuitive, but stay with me...)
Backup just the boot.img (This is to create the correct backup folder name/layout)
Unzip the nandroid zip and move all the .img and other files into the TWRP backup folder that has the boot.img that you backed up in it - just overwrite the boot.img you have there
Now go to Restore and you should see your option there now.
Your version of TWRP most likely has a file manager (under Advanced) and you should be able to unzip and move the necessary files all within TWRP. Make sure to pay attention to which storage option you are in if you have internal and external storage options.
If the restore is successful and the phone still does not boot, then return to recovery and perform a reset. If it still does not boot after that, then you'll need to copy the boot.img to a PC and use fastboot to install that.

Based on your response, I am now able to do a full restore of the HTC One m8 stock ROM. What I did was to unzip the Nandroid backup file first and then copied the whole unzip directory into the twrp/backup folder, I then just do a normal restore from the twrp recovery menu, and it worked beautifully. I have my original g3 backup and a CM12 backup, both on my SD(which twrp can read) but when I selected restore from external SD, nothing shows up.
Use the file manager option in twrp to see /sdcard/0
I had an issue where a rom i flashed kept moving my storage contents into more another 0/ folder so I ended up with /sdcard/0/0/0/0/allmyfiles
If you are comfortable with the linux commands you can mv the twrp folder back to /sdcard/0/twrp or I think the built in file manager will let you long press and move a folder.
Not sure if this is your issue, but I had problems on the 2.8.1 build of TWRP on another device. Apparently it has problems with external sd cards that are formatted as exfat. The backup will succeed, but will be deleted later. Downgrading to the 2.7.1 build fixed it. Again, this was on a different device, but might be the same issue here.
My phone is GT-N7105 (Samsung Note 2)
I had a nandroid backup before, then I copied the backup to PC, still have it. Then I flashed lineage 13. I deleted the nandroid backup on the phone storage. Now I want to restore the backup so I copied the backup files from the PC.
Now when I go to TWRP Restore mode, no backups are found.
I already searched through the internet and found the renaming method but there's a problem:
this is my original backup:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
I tried to make a new backup of my current lineage (just to see if the folder name changed based on the new folder the backup process will create), here is what the resulting folder was:
TWRP/backups/42f7491d7b409fc7/2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
As you can see, only the innermost folder name changed. So from what I found through searching, it said to rename the old backup folder to the new backup folder's name, meaning :
I changed
2017-03-01--05-28-34_JZO54K.N7105XXDMB
to
2017-07-05--09-27-29_lineage_tOlte-userdebug_6.0.1_MOB31K_ab972c
TWRP still can't see the original backup.
So what should I rename the original backup folder for TWRP to recognize it and make it appear?
Not sure, but i know you must use internal storage, not external sdcard in order to restore . Does it help?

From the TWRP screen, there's a bar you can tap for 3 choices: internal, external or USB OTG, but I surely put the original backup in internal storage.
The experimental backup I made was in external storage. TWRP can recognize it.
Anyone can help me? I already tried renaming the 6 character code from the original backup folder's name to the 6 char code from new backup. still won't work.
Any helpful ideas please?
