Hi.
I use whatsapp for my communication purposes more than SMS/calls. I have selected my default messaging app on Themer as Whatsapp.
As expected, the messages icon takes me to Whatsapp. BUT, the unread messages count on the widget does not reflect the unread messages on whatsapp. Instead, it only shows the count of unread SMSs.
This is the major reason why I am staying away from Themer (which I don't wanna do!). Is this a common issue with everyone?
Themer Support, if this is an issue, is it being fixed?
Thanks

I know of no such launcher which supports badges on WhatsApp. AFAIK, there's no way to show unread message badge on the icon. Though you can use missedit for notification.

Hi AB256,
To be honest this is quite a difficult feat to achieve, even advanced launchers struggle to do this. However, with the advances of Zooper widget combined with Tasker it might be possible, but not anytime soon. Apologies for the inconvenience...

Still no way to do this ? I find this to be one of the very few things that themer falls short in ..

Hey guys
I got the SGSII a few days ago and downloaded LauncherPro because I like the app tray to be vertical like the Nexus S.
Anyway, I have a "Messaging" shortcut on my homepage. The problem is that when I get a new message and have not looked at it, it does not show a little notification beside the icon (like a small "1" if I have 1 unread message).
Is there something I can do to fix this? It also does this with my emails (my email icon is one of the dock icons). I have "Unread SMS count" checked in LauncherPro preferences but it still does not work.
Thanks,
Elliott
This is from the the LP website...hope it helps...
Please note that for these notifications to work, you must either use the corresponding LauncherPro-style icon, or have the shortcut set for the stock phone/messaging app. It should work with other apps as long as you use the LauncherPro icon, and it should work with custom icons as long as you use the stock apps. Support for 3rd party apps with custom icons *might* come in the future but it’s not certain yet.
Thanks.
I do have a shortcut set for the stock messaging app and still doesn't work. No custom icons...

Ive a custom icon linking to handcent and its working fine with a little red 1 when i have an unread text.

I believe the newest version of Gmail "broke" the mail notofication in both ADWLauncher and LauncherPro. The ADWNotifier description says the following: "Since Gmail app updated to 2.3.5, we can no longer receive the unread count data. I'll try to find an alternative. " Nothing from LauncherPro so far.

From the LauncherPro site: I just received some pretty sad news. The API that LauncherPro uses to access your Gmail messages (used on the Gmail widget and the Gmail dock notifications) is being removed in the next version of the Gmail app for Android 2.2 and higher. Apparently the API does not meet modern security standards.
What this means for LauncherPro users is once you update to this new version, your LauncherPro Plus Gmail widget, and LauncherPro Gmail dock notifications will stop working, and even potentially crash the launcher if you try to use them (I don’t have access to this upcoming version yet, so I cannot fully test it).
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope that the Android team will come out with a revised API soon enough, so that we can re-gain our Gmail integration in LauncherPro.

Yes I have. And yes I've read that it seems to work for Handcent but not for the stock messaging app.

Exactly. Thank you. But my email is also not working in the dock...just using the stock email app with Hotmail.
Bump...anyone?
The latest gmail update changed the api structure so that all gmail notification apps (even launcher pro and touchwiz 4.5).
We have to wait for those apps to be updated to the new system.

Yea I'll have to try doing something...
I would like to make the notifications stay on my status bar until I actually read the SMS or the e-mail. There are times where I don't have time to read a long e-mail or answer a test at that instant but I would like to be reminded to read it later by leaving the notification on the status bar.
As soon as I open the SMS app or the e-mail or gmail app, the notification goes away.
For bonus points: any way to have the number of unread messages next to the icon in the menu? I found one way to do it for sms but it's a widget and I prefer having my icons on a dock.
Just putting this out there: I would love to have this for Gmail and Google Voice as well.
I'm so sorry for this poor answer but sassibob did a review for an app that let you set reminders in your status bar, in don't remember the name of it tho
Swyped from just about every ROM in the HD2 section

Why open the SMS app if you're not going to read it?
Anyway, use GoLauncher or LauncherPro or Launcher 7 if you want a little number next to the SMS app to tell you how many unread messages are present. You can't get this for Gmail because Google axed the API, and you won't find it for Google Voice either as far as I know.
Thanks guys! Will check those out!

On my old phone I used to leave them unread so that the notification was there to remind me to answer them later. LauncherPro did exactly what I wanted! Now if only it did that for the app drawer too...
He actually left one out, adw launcher also leaves the numbers of unread SMS,email, and other stuff, but you must download adw notifier along with the launcher

Adw is awesome the addon means nothing it still functions plus adw has more customizations. Lp is great also, but u have to pay for donate to resize widgets, also adw lets u change icons natively

I tried out the ADW notifier and the problem remains that the number goes away as soon as you launch the messages app or e-mail even if you don't open the message. LP wins this battle. Plus, I have a clean home screen so widgets don't apply to me personally
Hello All,
I've been running Stock JB for a while and I just flashed houstonn's Carbon 4.3. It works great is very smooth and stable. However, It looks like the Email, Phone and SMS apps in Carbon do not have unread count / badge displayed in launcher or dock. The stock version's corresponding apps do display unread count as little red circle on the icons. I am not sure if this is because of the launcher or what. It appears that badge/unread count may not be available for any AOSP based ROMS? Please correct me if I am wrong.
Does any one know if ParanoidAndroid apps (or other ROMs) display badge/unread/missed count?
It looks like Apex Prime or Nova Prime launcher claim to have this feature, but I have not tried them yet. I want to check here first to see that the deal is if I want badge/unread/missed count on apps.
What are my options?
1. Does PA or any other rom support this?
2. New Launcher? Which one?
3. New E-mail/Phone/SMS apps? Which ones?
3. Some how obtain stock apks?
Thanks in advance for your help.
SV.
Nova Prime works well, had the Gmail count hang up a few times showing unread when there wasn't.
I use Nova prime and it seems to work fine for me.

What about stock e-mail app
Thanks for the input on Nova Prime. Looks like it works with Gmail fine. Any idea about stock/touchdown/Emoze? I have to use Exchange email.
Thanks again.
SV
Yeah it works with those too... AFAIK. I used em in the summer and it was working then.

Things I've tried so far
Just thought I'd update with what I found so far. Thanks for Nova recommendation.
1. Notifyer - sort of works, but very unreliable.
2. Nova Prime + TeslaUnread - Works with Stock Email/Phone/SMS/K9. Does NOT work with Emoze. Also, The bade doesn't really show "unread" count. It just shows the same count as the notification bar. If you clear the notification from the notification bar, the badge also disappears. This defeats the whole purpose of the "unread" badge for me. If I get 10 messages and I clear the notification but only read one message, the badge is gone!
Next up is Apex Paid and Apex Notifier. I'll also try Missed It (not really a "badge", but a widget).
Apex and Missed It
I've tried the latest version of Missed It. It does work, but with a couple of really big flaws. Problem 1: If I clear notifications from the status bar, the count is cleared from Missed It as well. Kind of pointless to have this app if all it does is mirror the notification bar. Problem 2: E-mail Count is wrong. I have more than one account configured in e-mail. I've tried multiple event settings set to all three different settings, but no dice. It appears that the stock e-mail app sends notifications with number of unread mails every time it gets a bunch of new e-mails. But it sends one notification per account. So count as single or multiple probably doesn't work since it sends only one notification if more than one new mails arrive at the same time. Count as value does not work since it sends one notification per account, so the last account notification overwrites previous. Count as value can work if it is additive. Note that Missed It is supposed to provide counts for Nova Prime, but I didn't bother with config since it does not work for me.
The last one that I've tried (and it worked) is Apex Pro. Don't know why I didn't try this first. Works right out of the box. Note that a companion app called Apex Notfiier must be installed. But is all seamless and works great with AOSP dialer, SMS, Calendar and E-Mail. On dialer, it clears the count if I clear the notification bar or open the dialer, which I think is ok. It does the proper thing for SMS, E-mail and Cal and retains the true count as report by the app. It is supposed to work with few other email clients including K9 but not with Whatsapp, facebook etc.
So, I stuck with Apex Pro ($4) in the end. Not sure why this is not native to Android since the badge/unread is very useful.
Hope this helps others.

On a different note, I couldn't find a decent email app that combines exchange 2010 + POP3/IMAP so I had to stick with Stock. Stock works fine, but limited in its user interface and tweakability. Be careful with Emoze as everything is routed through their servers in Israel.
Holo Launcher HD Plus supports this. Worked well when I tried it, but I keep some messages unread, so always seeing the red circles on my dark themes annoyed me. Lol

This happens on every Theme
When you click on the Calendar widget hotspot/text and Themer asks you what Calendar to use, and you select your Calendar of choice, every time you click on that hotspot/text instead of launching the Calendar you chose it tries to "create new event". This happens regardless of the Calendar chosen.
In order to make the widget function properly, I have to manually edit the widget to directly launch my Calendar app instead of launching "Themer Calendar"
This makes Themer unbearable to use for me as many widgets have several text spots that launch "Themer Calendar" and I have to edit them all in order to avoid this behavior. I have mentioned this problem months ago but nothing has been done to rectify this.
Galaxy Note 3 running stock 4.4.2 (unrooted)
Please look into this, I cannot use Themer without being frustrated until this is fixed.

Hi,
We have found the cause of this problem, and have a ticket to fix it queued up.
If you have more than one calendar app, then after you choose one, tapping on a Calendar Themer Action icon or hotspot will always open the New Event instead of going to the calendar. If you disable or uninstall one of the duplicate calendar apps, then this won't happen.
This may also be related to the New SMS issue. Basically the same issue, just with the SMS app instead. The developers are still looking into this however.
We hope this helps!

In order to disable the default calendar app, I would need to be rooted, so that is not an option for me. Looking forward to a fix, and thank you for responding. I'll go up the GP rating to 4 stars for the response, 5 stars after it's fixed.
So I've decided to download and install the new Google Launcher. The one problem I have is that it doesn't have count indicators on the SMS, E-mail, and phone Icons?!?! Is this by design? Anyway around this?
Thanks,

Unfortunately you didn't link us to your launcher or give a version number, so we can't be sure. But it's probably by design. Not everyone wants to have in your face badges showing message counts.
You should do a search to see if anyone has a workaround. A search before posting is always a good idea. The message count indicators are called badges in IOS and notification or message count widgets in Android. What you are looking for is probably in the Play store. There are widget apps that do this for the Nova launcher e.g. TeslaUnread. You'd need to find an widget that is compatible with the launcher you're using. There is an app called Notifyer that may do what you want.
