[Q] galaxy s flash | recovery mode only! - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was trying to flash my samsung galaxy s with jellybean.. first i installed cwm 4.0.1.0 using odin and now I am stuck in recovery mode and not able to get to download mode.. and without download mode I am not sure how to resolve or move ahead..
I am always getting this error.. ""E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/... and some other similar messages."
I am not able to go to download mode with three finger, tried battery removed and putting back couple of times.. i can only go to recovery and any operation would result in "cant mount" error.. I am worried that its bricked..
is there any way to get away with this? I dont mind going back to jb or ics..
ADDED LATER :
In recovery mode when i do key test (recovery->advanced->key test).. i am finding that volume up button is not responding
power key -> 26
volume down -> 58
back key -> 139
main button -> novalue
volume up -> novalue
i suspect cwm 4.0.1.0 has changed some driver settings!!!
Current status is I am only able to boot to recovery.. no download.. no normal android boot.
any help is appreciated...

[Q] Boot loop into CWM, can't enter download, system errors - please help

Can someone assist?
I was going from bionix V, and decided to Odin back to stock. I used pit 512 and a kernel here - the last one on the list (stock+froyo uvkb1) on this post - forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-870480.html
I flashed the kernel here as the pda in Odin. I thought this was the right way to go, but instead, I'm now stuck in an infinite recovery loop where I can't reboot and can't flash any thing else. I just boot into recovery over and over again. I've mounted the drive, deleted all the files, added back in backups, and tried to flash a ton of stuff, but I keep getting this error:
E: can't mount /dev/block/stl11 ( file exists)
E:cant mount CACHE: recovery/command
cant mount cache:recovery/log
cant open cache:recovery/log
re-partition, auto reboot, and f.reset time were all checked in odin, but nothing else.
Oh, and I can't just use odin to restore - I cannot get into download mode using either the three button method or the adb method.
Can anyone help? I seriously don't want to have to go buy another phone - mainly because I can't really afford that sort of thing.
EDIT: Appreciate people helping here - just to clarify, I don't need help with 3 button method or adb into download - those methods aren't working.
There are 4 ways to get into download that I know of and 3 are on the phone itself.
1. Power down. Insert USB. Hold down vol up / vol down, and hold power until phone starts to boot. Let go of power and hold down volume until download starts.
2. Using a command prompt and ADB, tell the device to reboot into download.
3. Reboot into download via the CWM recovery menu.
The 4th way is the homemade jig, which I don't have the tools to create at the moment. However, I may try it shortly here.
I've tried all 3 of the ways above, and I'm stuck in a boot loop. I'm also unable to disable voodoo.
Does anybody know anyway to do a full on clean reset of the phone with Odin, nandroid, etc? The issue is, all of these methods on the boards would work if I could get into download, BUT, the phone won't mount the proper files for whatever reason (error code in original post) and so I cannot get into download, the home screen, nothing but the cwm recovery menu.
You should get in to download mode and odin stock jdf, those files you flashed are froyo builds. I don't think it work's that way, you must flash jdf first.
I know I need to do that - problem is, I can't get into download mode. That's step one - I'm stuck in the cwm recovery menu, over and over, and can't get anywhere else. Any ideas?
Try this
how to put in download mode- sure fire way
1- phone off
2- open Odin
3- hold vol button and plug in USB.
I just posted a thread. My phone just keep going to DL when I switch battery.
Thanks, but no - that method isn't working. There are 4 ways to get into download that I know of and 3 are on the phone itself.

I really appreciate you trying to help, it's the right answer for a lot of issues, but just not this one.
power off phone
pull out battery
GRAB THIS STUFF : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047087
turn on odin
attach phone to pc with usb cable
now while holding down both volume buttons put battery back in.
now you should be in download mode and go back to stock with odin from here!
make sure u put the proper .pit and .pda file in there proper places on odin and ur set to go.
Enjoy and also make sure u have the proper samsung drivers
What if you can get in dl mode but odin won't read your phone? I have the correct drivers intalled. It was working fine til I upgrated to cm7. Now my phone is stuck at vibrant screen and can't get in recovery. The phone boots in dl mode but its not recognized by my pc. Any ideas if I'm screwed?

[Q] Entering recovery mode

Hello.
I have a bit of a problem with my unrooted IO tab running 3.1. I can't seem to enter recovery mode.
When I press power + volume down for about 10 seconds I get 2 icons:
- USB symbol
- Shoveling android in triangle sign
Selecting 2nd one gets me into download mode and that seem to work (with ODIN and such..)
1st option should get me into recovery mode ... but that doesn't seem to be working.
When I select it USB symbol stops blinking and this is displayed in top left corner:
Fastboot USB download protocol
Bootloader Version : Unknow
Baseband Version : %s
Serial Number : my_serial_number
Lock Status : UNLOCKED
And the only thing I can do now is press power as nothing else works.
What to do now? Help?
Things I've already tried:
- Using ODIN to install CWM and full stock image
- Using nvflash to install stock, io and CWM recoveries
- More or less everything I've read on this forum
Any ideas what to do?
(I can provide more info, just tell me what do you need )
Unlike retail Tabs, which give the option of booting into recovery or ODIN, the I/O Tabs give the option of booting into fastboot or ODIN. There's no key-press combination that will get you into recovery.
You can get into recovery using ADB. I think you can also do it with Rom Manager, but you probably need to root for that to work. I don't have a I/O Tab so I don't have any first-hand knowledge on this.

Another way exist :-s ?
Oops..
Ive not noticed it.
I think you are in a deep trouble now ..
Your phone is hardbricked.
Hardbricks refers to the phone as
totally jammed, it doesn't show
anything, can't access the download
mode screen. The only solution for
this is by called JTAG flashing, which
is forcing to install the firmware
back to the phone. The process is not
too easy, this includes disassembling
the phone, some soldering required
and flashing by means of using a
flashing device tool.
I cant post a link now. The above text copied from a blog!!
Final hope:tried a battery pull ?

Boot loop, can't enter recovery mode

Hi,
I tried installing LOS14 on my Samsung Galaxy SII i9100. The installing failed. i was on cm12.1 iirc.
I already installed stock rom from updato(.)com and can't access recovery mode, tried Siyah-s2-v4.1.5 kernel but i still can't acess recovery mode, i press the buttons vol up + home but the phone ignores the command and just boot and keeps showing the logo. I can only acess download mode. Using odin3 v1.85.
On google i just find dead links or really old posts from 2013 with more dead links. Please help :crying:
Okay my phone is alive, thanks for users Hopper8, It_ler and keithross39 for provide solution and choose freaking good host which don't delete the files, but still can't access recovery mode!!! All buttons work, i can turn volume up and down press home button and turn off/on the smarthphone.
Right now i'm on 4.1.2 JellyBean leak. How i'm supposed now to install a custom recovery to install LineageOS14.1 if i can't even go to stock recovery?
Any help?
EDIT:
interesting the flash didn't delete anything from internal sdcard(scard0). Still have here a clocckworkmod/backup from 2015-12-31 o.0 i don't even remember how i did that, since cyanogen mod had a custom recovery and not clockworkmod. I really don't know how to use this backup. My guess is i just followed some guide from someone and said to do this before installing cyanogen mod.
Anyway still can't access recovery mode...
Start from scratch and follow this guide. https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-tutorial-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-t3538601/

But i still can't access recovery mode.
I press volume+ + Home + Power buttons and release them when i see Galaxy S2 logo like is said in the guide.
But phone just boots in and doesn't go to recovery mode. Can't format /cache and /system partitions =\.
Hi, your mistake is that you release the buttons early, the volume level + Home + Power buttons, hold it down and do not release until you recovery!
