Hi guys just wanted to say my galaxy s2 is officially busted. Its still in working order do not get me wrong but something wrong with the hardware i think because i have flashed so many roms and stock roms to try and resolve the problem and i cant. My display is always sky high in battery usage and i cant get it down to save the life of it. Got everything on the lowest that is brightness settings and still nothing. Spoken to samsung and they say its not suppose to be like that and that display always high and as high as 60% is not right.
What can i do please cause i love the phone and it really pisses me off that it gets drained so bloody quickly? Shall i just sell it and get an HTC sensation instead or shall i send it to Samsung and be patient for ten days without my phone

Id say just wait for the new phone, the galaxy s II obliterates the Sensation. This coming from a person who's owned both devices.
About your display problem, sounds pretty weird never heard of an issue like that before.

What is your average display "Time on" on "Battery usage" when you're almost running out of battery?
How quickly does it drain? Don't you have warranty to get it replaced if it's actually faulty? I can't really decide if that's the case from your non-sense post.

My display is high as well with android Os in second most of the time and its normal, cause I use the phone a lot so obviously the screen will be high.
I get around 13-17 hours heavy usage so am happy I dont think its anything to do with rom flashing unless you get lower then 10 hours battery life
sorry i should of made it more clearer. Once i charge my handset as soon as i start using it you can see the percentage drop rapidily. i go into the battery usage and the display is at its highest and draining the battery. And that is with brightness to low settings. If i do not use the phone it can last me for a whole day and a half. But im to scared to use it for browsing and thats over wifi cause i know it will not last me to long...i know the handset is a battery drainer but come on the display should not be as high as it is..and with the warranty i have put the stock rom back so can they find out still that i had my handset rooted if i was to send it in

If you get two hours with screen on, than that's normal and not a hardware failure. Use white backgrounds as little as possible.
Apparently they could, I believe they some kind of count record of the amount of roms you have flashed and the only way to reset is by using a 'JIG' if you search the forums should be able to find more info on the 'JIG'

Looks like SAMOLED+ consume most power on SGS2. I thought it's normal. Just know mine also having the same problem.
Sucks to be the guy who receives all these problems. I suggest, you just get a refund, as you should be ashamed of yourself if you sell a defective SGS2.
If you like the sensation, get it. It's also good, as I usually borrow it from my sister when we feel like exchanging phones for a few days. Sensation's default battery life is a little worse than the SGS2, as I only get 18hrs-1d 4hrs in the Sensation(still not rooted/default ROM) against the 1d - 1d 10hrs of the SGS2(Leomar ROM + Ninphe 2.2/undervolted).
My sister just got those chichitec 1900mAh batteries, and she said battery life on the Sensation improved(Only her word, as we have yet to exchange phones again this weekend). Now, all it needs is an undervolt + good ROM and the Sensation's battery should last a longer if not the same than the SGS2. Though you'll surely miss the SAmoled+ quality if you compare it with the SLCD of the Sensation, hope HTC improve on this department, they should have used IPS instead of SLCD.
A little tip if your getting the Sensation, is to thoroughly check its touchscreen sensitivity. My Sensation, is a little buggy sometimes, sense lagging/resetting + weird touch sensitivity. Though, I think it should be fix by flashing a good ROM + Kernel. Good Luck.

well im going to fully charge it again today and see how it goes. i have reverted back to stock rom and just rooted with chainfire kernel and installed titanium backup and unistalled all the samsung hubs and froze the wifi sharing bit. but my display is still high but i see how long i can get out of it i will post a screen after i let it drain down ..

what is your display percentage and how can you manage to get so many hours out of it? any tips? i will be posting screen shots tomorrow for you guys to see what im talking about
If you have been using the phone the screen will always be #1 on the list, as its the part that needs the most power.
The phone will get about 6-8h of screen on time total before the battery is flat, but it will depends on mobile coverage (weak coverage will drain faster), if you are using heavy data, wifi usage (will be better than using mobile data on a weak signal or if you are pushing a lot of data round).
Generally radios will eat up the juice.
Also games will hurt.
You can use CPUspy to see what states the CPU is in, and if its going to deep sleep.
Also in settings > about phone > battery use, you want the awake and screen on lines to match up as much as you can.
(Music will keep the phone awake while the screen is off, and so will downloading stuff etc)

The truth is, that what you report as a problem, is not a problem, it is simply a fact. SAMOLED displays drain batteries like hell. Mine does exactly the same. Like you, I was starting to think that my unit was somewhat faulty, but soon fund out that it was not. In fact, the truth is that the galaxy s2, if left on with the acreen at normal brghtness, fully drains its battery in a matter of 5 hours or so. It is due mainly to the display draining something like 0.8 Watts, alone.
People saying they get almost 2 days use simply tell bullocks, because there's no way of actually using this phone and getting more than about 15 hours autonomy from its battery.

I'm still confused over there. You're just talking without making any sense at all. The only thing I've got from all this is that you're complaining about display being the highest on the battery drain list. That means nothing. Or not much at least. Those values need to give a total of 100%, so if you're using your phone, and display is the highest, your phone is working really good, and you don't have the AOS bug. Which means your device is not faulty, you just don't understand the battery statistics screen. Pardon me if I understood your problem wrong, but if I didn't, just carry on with your life, your phone has no problems at all. I get around 1.5 days with medium usage, and I think that's normal for a phone like this.

You are not being rude at all. I have flashed yesterday batistas new rom and using jeffrey speedfrey kernel and i have fully charged the phone and calibrated it as well. I am going to let it die down and recharge it again to the max and see how it goes after that as well. My point of this though is as below on the screenshot. The display is always in that percentage and that is what has me worried. I have checked on other posts and the most that they get is 35 to 50%. I have the lowest brightness settings and it still that high..That is why i am asking if there is something wrong with my phone. I am getting good battery life so far just with medium usage and having wifi on since i have charged it but the display is what worries me. If someone could help me with these pointers as well i would appreciate it:
Does underclocking with Setcpu help battery life even more?
And what do you guys think of the screenshot?
i know this sounds silly but how does someone close a thread once they opened it i have a few i want to close..

It has dropped to 76% after 10 hours and a couple hours of screen usage. I don't think that there is a problem.

why is my display % so high though that is what im questioning. its not just for a few minutes its as soon as i get the phone out of sleep the display percentage sky rockets. and its that much cause the phone was asleep overnight
I got my galaxy s2 (international version) about 4 months ago. Recently I've noticed some weird battery drain mostly when I restart my phone, but it happens other times just out of the blue.
It might be a software bug not showing the proper battery level, but I've attached pictures that show normal battery drain even after that jump down. Obviously, if it was a a software fault the battery percentage should remain level or go up slightly. (Yes the battery level does go up a bit, but I lose significantly more battery than I gain.)
This has happened in many instances and I've only got a screenshot of two. Sometimes I get big discharge and at other times its small. It's pretty annoying when you think you've got enough battery and go out, only to find the phones dropped 20-30% out of nowhere.
My phone is unlocked and not branded (bought from carphone warehouse UK- CPW). It's running stock XXKI4 firmware (2.3.4) and I'm not rooted.
So my question is, has anyone else seen this happen or have I got a faulty battery? Is there a fix?

Battery drain is one one the main argouments you can find in this forums. ATM I'm in your same condition: after latets ROM ugrade (I've got latest CheckROM release), my phone "sucks" al lot more battery than before.
A lot of things could affect this: themes, skin, kernel, application bug, bad battery checking and so on. There isn't a valid answer... I think you must indagate on yourself, comparing what you find with forum's infos!!

There are several threads about battery drain.

Maybe you find a useful tip.
You have always test it on your phone under your conditions.
You can try to flash special (Custom) ROMs and kernels, which are optimized for better battery life, but as there are so many different influences on battery life, it is nearly impossible to find a general "fix" for all users and phones.

As to Anwser to those "drops" or "gaps" in the graph, just recently i noticed that my phone was working normally, i was monitoring its battery drain (i have a thread going on about it), and after some time of no using, after class, i noticed that my phone asks for my SIM PIN again, and is in Safe Mode (i dont really know what that it). When i checked the battery monitoring graph (battery info) i notice the absolutr same fall (from 70% to 40%), but i remember that i saw and used my phone at 60-50% too ! So i can only assume that the phone crashes, eighter reboots for some reason, and the data isnt saved (for example it saves the data every 2 hours or so), so there appears the "gap".
Thats simply my opinion, but i do remember using the phone at the % between the two extremes (IN the gap), so i guess the data wasnt saved.
EDIT: Ha! I'll add some pis now to show you guys this: so in my current history i have two gaps, one big, and one smaller before. So, the first time, i turned off the phone and PULLED OUT THE BATTERY aswell cause i wanted to check my batteries mAh (its 1650 but thats offtopic). Thats how the small gap appeared ! As for the big one, my phone seemed to crash and reboot while i didnt notice, because in an hour or so of no using i woke it up and it asked for the SIM PIN.
So there, i think the phone eighter crashes or doesnt manages to save the battery data, and those gaps ("falls") appear.

Hi, I have a problem with my Ace. When I only use 2G and use my phone for calls/sms, my battery lasts for like 3 days. But if i have 100% full battery and I use the internet with (or without 3G), my battery lasts for like half an hour, drains from full to 0 and then phone turns off. If i turn on my phone again, it shows like 30% or more battery left, but if data connection is still on, I lose 1 percent in like every second.
This is not only with data connections. I drained my battery from 100% to 0 in like 1,5 hours with just looking some pictures and using the calculator. I would like to think my battery is dead, but it lasts like 3 days when used for calls/sms only.
I have tried recalibrating my battery many times, used different ROMs (stock and custom), still same.
Is there anything else I could do to check my battery status??
Anyway, I am looking for a new battery but not the original one. Im looking from eBay. I contacted the sellers and asked for the weights. Original battery weighs like 30g. I got replied that these two (2050mAh High Capacity Replacement Battery for Samsung Galaxy S5830 and aoonen 2PK NEW Li-Ion Battery for Samsung S5830 Galaxy ACE 1800mAh fast shipping) batteries weigh 50g and 60g. This makes them less likely to be the fake gold ones, or what do u guys think? Has anyone bought one of those batteries? Or can anyone recommend a battery with more capacity than the original one (1350mah)

I've never heard about such long-life battery in Galaxy Ace.
3 days calls and texting ?
It's normal that battery drains faster when using mobile data, but not that fast.
If You can, ask a friend to borrow You battery from Galaxy Ace.
If everything will be okay then You'll know the naswer.
If other battery won"t last longer, then i suggest to check you phone for "short circuit".
Maybe something is wrong with your motherboard that is connected with 3G .. ?

I believe so, they both use the same sized battery (1350 mAH, Li-ion Batteries)
Though I may be wrong someone correct me if I am wrong.

I just bought two gold extended life (2450mAh) batteries for my Ace! I was meaning to test them against the stock one but hadn't got around to it yet. Didn't use the stock battery much as I think it's original to the phone which I recently bought 2nd hand.
If anyone wants me to do this test (properly) let me know.
Thinking about this; perhaps a few Ace owners could flash a common ROM and perform a standard discharge test. This would give us some baseline.

My batter is two years old and it works good.
I use CM7 and no super widgets. Maybe it saves energy.
Try another ROM, remove or switch off everything You don't need.
Maybe it will help You. If not, it's time to buy another battery.
Don't ask which browser is the best, because we don't know what You need.
I need my browser to browse websites. I don't use favourites on mobile phone, so everyone is the best.

There's an app called "Battery Drain". Try charging your phone to 100%, turn on Battery Drain and select everything except Vibrate, and let us know how long it takes to fully discharge.
I have a stock battery, and it lasted ~3 hours.

Wow, just too many variables! For instance.. Any idea how many mA the vibrator uses when typing with haptic feedback? What about the extra battery used by the radio when your in a poor reception area, does my micro-sd use more power than yours? Etc.
Battery life comparisons will only be meaningful in conditions where the battery is the only changed variable. So i would charge two or more batteries; discharge one, then another, measuring the times. Both batteries would need to be new unless you just want to compare something tired and worn with just out the factory.
Not 100% but I think it's relevant how many amps you take at a time, in relation to total capacity.. The chemical tech. may be difference, but lead-acid cells give differing amounts of charge dependent on temperature, and rate of discharge. In most applications capacity (C), is measured over 20 hours (C/20). C/100 will see many more amps capacity, and C/10, fewer! Also consider a used battery could last a considerable time, if only the high drain occasion is minimal. Something simple like the vibrator could send an old battery 'over the edge' if the drain is too high.
What does all this mean to me? Unless you wanna spend hours discharging your phone battery finding out (not really), get a fresh battery online; they still don't cost much and are easy to find. Gold batteries have been available for some time so go with your gut on that one! Perhaps, like me, you think it's worth the risk.
If you really love your phone and think you'll still be holding on to it in a couple of years time - you'll be thankfull you bought a spare battery or two while they were still cheap

Hello, problems of battery are the most important in the management of smartphones increasingly sophisticated. I know of no silver bullet, so it makes sense to always have an alternate (note that battery life depends on time, even without use)
I found a small application, very cool, which is PowerTutor, which gives us interesting information from the battery usage. However'm with JuiceDefender Ultimate (free version exists). The only application which effectively spare battery was Greenpower. [all in gplay]

This is usually the fix. It's amazing how fast some batteries start failing. Old batteries and cold temperatures are usually the top cause of poor battery life, especially in secondhand phones.

I just bought a new Samsung Galaxy Alpha. I've only been using it for a few hours and already I'm dissappointed at how poor the battery life is. I fully charged the phone to 100% and brought it to the AT&T store to get a new sim card. The same clerk and I probably had the phone on (i.e., using the screen) for 10-15 minutes tops. The battery dropped from 100% to 94%...that's in a matter of only 10 minutes of very light usage (just setting up basic settings and voicemail). I literally watched the percentage drop in front of me about every minute.
Currently, the phone is on and I've only been using it to send a few texts (not emails or web surfing) over a period of about a 2 hours; and, now it's down to 88%. That seems really pathetic to me...a 12% drop in battery from setting up my google account, voicemail, and sending a few texts! I recently had an iPhone 5 and galaxy S5 and note 3 and I don't recall their batteries being anywhere near as bad as this.
Is this normal? I just set the phone up; Are there things on that might be killing my battery like this?
Or...do I have fake phone. I called Samsung and they said the phone is legit and even covered by their warranty, but this battery has me worried about the legitimacy of the phone or the battery at least.
First couple hours of the phone need to sync a boat load of stuff from your Google account. I don't see your battery usage anything out of ordinary. Never judge the battery life in the first week of the ownership. It has a quite small battery in order achieve the thin profile compared to other phones. But the battery is fine lasting a work day. There are also choices of two different types extended batteries.
A few tips.
Turn sync OFF click it on when you need it.
Turn Location OFF.
On screen brightness in the pull down menu
turn Auto ON indoors it will tone down screen brightness if you can live with low brightness it will help Battery Life.
Also use the Recent Apps menu to see what is still running or check the Battery Stats and see if some silly APP is running wayyyy longer than it needs to and stop it.

its normal for your alpha. its battery life is ****! i have used it myself and it didnt even last a day. by early afternoon i had to either connect it to charger or put in a new battery which had to be charged before. its so frustrating. i got the extra battery with the box, should have known then there is some problem. i was so frustrated i had to sell it out in a month.
my advise would be to get rid of this ****ty battery phone. its good phone over all, only gripe is battery.
i know people telling you should turn off this, turn off that, but why would you turn off any thing when the purpose is to give you ease, not become a headache. i got Note 4 now and its better.
i would suggest you to sell it out or return it, if you can, and get something better. may be S5 or even Note 4.

So far, my Galaxy S5 I bought back in August has been running into issues lately. Here are the situations I've been through lately:
-The charging port on my S5 is broken. I went to my local repair shop and the guy there said that it's $129 USD to repair the charging port (that's over 1/2 the cost of the phone itself) because the people repairing my phone have to remove the glass to get access to the port itself. The guy told me to go buy an external battery charger and new batteries instead, recommending me an external battery charger and 2 batteries on eBAY. The batteries and charger were new and only $15.
-Now here's where the problems with the batteries start. After using my phone with the new battery for 15 minutes and draining from 60% to 39%, it shut off. I tried turning my phone on again, but it just wouldn't. So I charged it to 100% and put it into my phone, but when I turned my phone on, the battery starts at 81%. No big deal for me, so I start using my phone as normal.
-Now: drainage issues. My S5, no matter what ROM I flash on it, whether it be CM-based or TouchWiz-based, will drain from 81% to 0% in just ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES, and this was my defective battery before it was replaced with the ones I got from eBay. I STILL have the same problem to this day and I don't know what's going on.
-And finally, the overheating issues. When I start up and use my phone on any TouchWiz-based ROM, it will heat to somewhere about 100 Degrees Fahrenheit to 150 Degrees Fahrenheit based on what I feel on my hand. So far I've found NO WAY to fix this at all, so please help

Since you've gone 3 days with no help, I'll try to give you what very limited help I can.
First, the overheating and short battery life go hand-in-hand. Assuming this isn't a straight up hardware issue, it would seem that the processor is running hard servicing some app. Have you added anything recently that might be running in the background? If you aren't sure what the possible cause may be, maybe using a power monitoring app like Better Battery Stats would be worth a try.
As for the early shutoff, there is such a thing as battery calibration. Don't know much about it myself, but there's information out there.
Also, I suppose you could just have a bad battery. New doesn't necessarily mean good. Ebay stuff is not always trustworthy.
