Had a random issue today. I periodically reboot to recovery and wipe cache/dalvik every day. Today when I tried it was stuck at splash screen. It simply kept rebooting to splash and would hang up. I could get to bootloader. But that was it. I manually shut it down a few times and finally removed my sdcard. After about a half hour and a lot of stress I finally got it to boot in to Rom. Thinking it might help I downloaded goo manager and updated twrp to 2.6.3.0. It was strange because now all seems fine. Any thoughts on what happened? Is my firmware going out?
============================================================
current setup
htc evolte
hboot:1.19 s-off
twrp 2.6.3.0
Firmware 3.17

Are you sure you didn't accidentally wipe the system partition? That might have done the bad trick..
Yeah I'm sure. Now my evo is definitely soft bricked. Splash screen bootloops and the internal sd won't preload in bootloader. I think I have to attempt to flash stock recovery via hboot and push ruu as well. For now I just upgraded to the one.

Try using VipeRuu... But that's a 3.16, I don't think there is a 3.17 RUU...

Mine has behaved in similar way for about past two weeks where it randomly reboots and then bootloops to splash screen over and over. After a few minutes it will finally boot into the rom. I am on decks 10.2. It was worst with a couple of releases ago, I think 0916 or something but it has done it a couple of times with 1006 which was still current IRC version as of earlier this week. I don't know what triggered it to start happening, whether it was the ROM itself or some other app I added. I did find that usually I could boot into recovery, clear dalvik and cache then reboot and it seemed to work but not always. It's a nuisance but I've never had it not recover from bootloop within a few minutes. btw this was with a full wipe and factory reset in both cases.
Mine started after flashing the latest firmware via fastboot. Idk what else to try other than what's already stated. I may try to push older firmware first. I'd hate to have a dead device sitting around. I guess when I find the time I'll get to work on it.

Viper ruu worked on latest 3.17 firmware. I was nervous for sure. But success!

Me too.
In the last hour, my phone got stuck in a boot loop. I wasn't doing anything at the time; in fact it was sitting on my desk. I've been using my phone all day without issue. It had plenty of juice left prior to this issue.
I was running Deck's latest.
This happened to me tonight. It's been a total nightmare trying to fix it.
Well idk what kind of bootloops you guys are having, but if u flashed the latest firmware recently and are having splash screen bootloops, then the fix is stated above. Viperruu will work great. Just make sure you read the op thoroughly.

I had an issue kinda similar like this and ended up having to flash the RUU through the bootloader. It is the stock firmware 605.19, and I had to reroot. It's a pain I know but it works

I to had to this at one point and it does work. I would first try to flash cwm in fastboot though. Sometimes that works.

My friend's phone tried to pull an OTA while he had CWM recovery installed, and it started boot looping. Had to download the stock recovery, name is PG05IMG.zip in the root of the SDCard, and force the phone to boot to the bootloader and install it. Once it did, the phone started up, rebooted itself, and installed the OTA fine. Sounds like yours may be trying to do something similar?
If so rooted phones need caches cleared for the ota to work.

From my understanding, Rooted can still take OTA, but you have to have stock recovery to do it (as I witnessed earlier). You will lose root, and will have to re-flash recovery to TWRP, CWMR, or whatever your normal choice is, and then re-apply the su.zip, but otherwise easy as pie.

Hello, first of all I would like to thank everyone who has posted in this thread to try and help out. I just started having a very similar problem- I'm rooted and running stock, but apparently my phone accepted an OTA and I'm stuck in a bootloop as well.
I got into CWM recovery and downloaded the stock recovery PG05IMG.zip, but it won't install. It just aborts every time I try to install it. I'm a noob at this stuff and not very good at dealing with these sorts of things and I've been having a panic attack for the past hour, so if anyone could help me as soon as possible I would really appreciate it.
I'm really scared of making things worse than they already are. I just want a working phone.

pull battery, wait a minute, turn on phone
when in bootloader screen,
volume down, select reboot
back to white screen, select recovery ( i had to do this twice)
hold volume up and power when black screen appears
choose the bottom option (wipe cache i believe)
choose reboot
phone should be good aftter this
( idont own a thunderbolt, but i had to fix this for a nother phone, called tech support and this worked)
hope this helps - hopefully saves someone from ruu'ing and wiping their phone
Thank you for posting the file, life got in the way yesterday. Hope that fixes your situation!

The zip won't work in CWM because it's not designed for use with CWM. It's designed for use in Fastboot. Should be on the root of your sd card. From off, if I'm correct (like this with other HTC devices), hold volume down and power to boot into fastboot. This will allow it to flash the stock recovery.

Right. I also have a recovery zip that installs the stock recovery if anyone wants it?
It can be found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/61129367/OTARestoreAndRecovery.zip
(warning: I have tested it and it works but it did cause me a bootloop, and im assuming this is becuase im on a different rom - - - so not responsible for any damages)

thanks im downloading the RUU..
How exactly did you update to the newest base?
Figured I would update this thread in hopes of helping someone else if they get stuck here.
I had upgraded to the new base with PJ75IMG and that went well - had used other ROMs on that new base.
What had happened was I was flashing venom on TWRP 2.2.0 and it rebooted phone when it hit system (why system was damaged in first place not sure, i had just rebooted into recovery).
I had to oem lock, ruu, oem unlock (even though it said s-off for lazypanda it was not working) and then i was able to re-flash twrp (this time pushed 2.2.1 through fastboot).
I've put a lot of evo's in bad spots but the behavior I saw on this was new for me.. Anything I touched 'system' from twrp or if my rom tried to load, phone would cycle. Light would NOT go on when plugged in.
Either way rocking new rom and am good! thanks guys
Ok, I thought I knew what I was doing. Unfortunately, wine had a factor in my issue... I have a rooted Evo 4g LTE. S-on Hboot 1.15. I was using Clockwork Recovery. I probably should have been using TWRP, from what I've read. When I first got the phone, I was over zealous, and flashed a Mod before saving a recovery. I hated it. So I flashed back to Stock ROM (jewel 1.22.651.3). I wanted to try out a Jelly Bean ROM so I flashed codefireX CM10. It worked but when the phone loaded it kept saying "phone error" and wouldn't let me click okay. So I rebooted into recovery and flashed my previous rom. I was a little tipsy, so I tried it again... It still didnt work... Rebooted into revovery, and this time I cleared cache, cleared davaik cache, and did a factory reset... Then, It wouldn't recover my saved rom. I must have cleared everything again, that I remember, now it won't load into Clockwork. I've tried everything I can think. I tried RUU, No luck. I tried flashing through Fastboot, No luck. Tried Well, I really have researched everything I could think about Boot loops... I'm stuck .... Everything I try seems to have a step missing or issue with my phone because its S-on and I relocked it through abd because RUU needs to be lock on.. I read I may have to flash a new kernel. I'm in over my head. I had to revert to using my Palm Pre. (which I loved for many years, But I really miss my EVO!) PLEASE HELP. :crying:
Check out om4's guide in general, it will tell u all you need to know...good luck.

Your issue is that you need a different kernel for CM10, and it needs to pushed in before you flash the ROM(because you're S-on and hboot 1.15).
This will help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847860

Im now using TWRP. Everythings working again. Thank you.
Hello,
I am fairly noobish when it comes to phones but I have had a rooted OG EVO and now i have had a rooted EVO LTE. When i first rooted my LTE i flashed the meanbean rom and then a few months after that i decided to try out other roms suchs as CM10, Paranoid, and maybe a few others that didn't last too long. I just tried to go back to meanbean and it loaded about 75% and was just stuck. I let it sit there for about 45 minutes and nothing ever happened. I forced a restart and restored to a previous backup. When my phone booted up I noticed that it was acting funny and I later found out that some how my internal storage device was messed up. I eventually mounted my phone to my computer in TWRP and reformated so it now works as it should. I went to try and flash meanbean and it again freezes at the same spot. When i try to flash another ROM my phone beings to flash it and then it will randomly restart back into recovery. I have no idea why it is doing this. I tried to run my phone's RUU but my computer wont find my phone connected to it. When i try to use HTC Sync it also will not find my phone.
Sorry for the wall of text but at this point I am wanting to just start over completely fresh bc i feel that all of this flashing, restoring, and reformatting has really messed up my phone. Currently my phone has issues with it's calls. I sound as though i am very far away and I have never had this problem before so i am not sure where that issue is coming from.
If anyone has any kind of advice on what I should do please please help me! I can post any kind of information or clarification that is needed.
Thanks a ton in advanced!

I am not. When i try to flash the newest version from bootloader it says, "Current version is newer" (or something similar to that) and then it will just boot loop in bootloader until i delete the zip from the sdcard.

I was running Twisted's 4.0.4 build ever since release, all the way up to his 1/13 build(which was plagued with a lot of issues) but I attributed my issues to that build exclusively... as it turns out, it isn't the case at all.
A few days after clean flashing the 1/13 build with 4ext recovery, all partitions properly formatted to ext4 I started experiencing several issues with my bolt. First, occasionally I would plug it in to charge and it would reboot, show the boot SPLASH a couple of times and eventually boot into the OS. Again, I thought it was the build, but then when I tried to boot into recovery I noticed I couldn't. The vol+power didn't work and I couldn't reboot into recovery from the OS. It would just boot loop to splash a couple of times and (sometimes longer than others) boot loop until it booted up. Eventually I tried reflashing recovery, assuming that somehow my recovery partition wasn't working properly. A las, I was able to boot into recovery after recovery reflash, then I loaded the 12/24 build but the same behavior occured. At this point, I assumed I'm going back to stock and I don't care all that much since I was going to be upgrading. I took the .19 Gingerberad OTA PG05IMG.zip and copied it over to my SD card. Which was quite the chore since at this point it was taking longer and longer to actually get to the OS and I had no other means to copy to a microSD card.
Now here I am, I flashed the PG05IMG of the .19 Gingerbread and it still behaves the same way! Would it have something to do with Revolutionary HBOOT? I'm stumped, but at this point I can't really get to the OS or recovery. I did get to the OS once, but when I tried to plug it in to send over ADB commands/files it rebooted!
I was going to sell it rather cheap, but now I just might give it to a dev. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
...random fact, I put on the newest ICS radios from the OTA but other than that I don't know
Maybe pull out your SD card and try and boot up the phone. How old is your battery? Did you flash just the ota radios or did you flash the update with the new boot? Sounds almost like your min clock speed is to low?

Did you do a full wipe data, system, both caches? I have heard 4ext seems to be having issues with the ota based ics roms. Maybe try flashing teamwin to just see if that's your issue.
