Hey,
I'm having some trouble on my Optimus L9 P769 group texting. I have figured out how to send a text to a group of contacts, but when those contacts reply to the text it comes in separate conversations. Do any of you know how to make the replies all come in the same conversation? Thanks for all the help I can get. By the way, I know I'm a noob so don't hate.

Its not a group texting, but a message who's sended to several people. Use an app like Whatsapp, Kik messenger or other to participate in group conversations.
Sentry is right. The stock LG app receives replies as individual conversations. Apps like Textra (Recommended, I don't like the UI but it's good) will let you use group MMS amazingly.
MMS has evloved into something it was not originally intended to be, and has become fragmented. MMS is implemented differently by different carriers and on different hand sets. The apps recommended by Ilxaot and SentryMescudi will use a seperate text number number (instead of your phone number) or 'user name' to recieve texts, and will use 3G/4G/wifi instead of your carrier's 2G service to recieve the texts. So make sure you tell all your contacts to use a seperate number when they send you a text.

I need to send regular texts to the same group of people every week (for 5-a-side footy) and want to set up what I would call a group. I can't seem to find anyway to set up a group in my contacts and just wondered if someone could point me in the right direction?
Cheers....

have a look at handcent in market.. great text app.
Thanks for that I'll have a look.
However first I want to see if I can create a group using the standard contacts app and then use the standard sms app to insert a group to send an sms to?
Can I do this?
As you all know, Android lacks the ability to receive group text from iPhone users under one single thread. iPhone users can text a multiple users using MMS, and all the replies from all recipients will appear under one "group MMS" thread. For Android users, each individual message in the conversation appears under the contact that sends it, not under a group thread. As a result, my SGS2 can't "reply all" to everybody who is on the original list of recipients.
This is a problem for me as I group text a lot and most of my friends are iPhone users.
I was a dumbphone user right until I got my SGS2 a month ago. I manage to tackle this problem with my dumbphone because it can "reply-all" to MMS messages.
I can't seem to find this option on the SGS2. Anyone got any pointers? Is it possible to send a text only MMS message to multiple contacts?
Reply All to iPhone group texts
I use GO SMS so this may not work in the stock Messaging app.
When I receive an iPhone group text (=Group MMS), I do the following:
(1) Create a new text-only message
(2) Manually key in all the contacts from the group text
(3) Add a subject (e.g. "X") to convert the text-only message into a Group MMS
iPhone users will receive your Group MMS in the same group text thread that everyone else is on, plus the additional "X" subject line. As you already know, without the subject, your text-only message will be sent out as SMS messages to each individual and the iPhone users will not see it in the group text thread.
Until Android Issue 24468 (google it) is resolved, this manual method is the only way I know of how to Reply All to iPhone group texts from an Android phone.
Hope that helps.
p.s. SGS2 is amazing.
I noticed now when I send group text they all go in 1 thread but I dont see multiples of the same texts I send. So I checked with a few friends to see if they see my text as a group text and some say yes some say no. Can someone else verify if the ICS messaging infact supports MMS group chat? Currently I use Handcent SMS to accomplish this but its very buggy so it would be great if the ICS built in messaging can do this now.
Didn't this happen on GB also.? Maybe im wrong.

In GB If i sent to a group in that thread there would be 4 or 5 of instance of my text in a row (depending on how many recipient). But with ICS I just see 1 instance of my text. I should rephrase my OP.
EDIT: I think all ICS does is eliminate the multiple texts showing and doesnt really do mms group chat. As I sent another group text and although my outgoing goes in the group thread once they respond I get individual responses. Oh well.
Anyhow also found this thread which I'm hoping will eventually support mms group chat (WIP).

going with gosms
So I have a bunch of friends with iPhones, and they threw me into a group chat (not that it matters but we're organizing a martini night). As you guys probably know as android users, this presents a problem as the group messages are received as individual texts, normally with a <no subject> header, and as a result, you can't reply to the chat, but have to respond to each member individually (or send a mass text each time).
I'm wondering if there's simply a way to group (on my end only) those contacts together, so that any message I receive from them shows up as a group chat, which I can then reply to all. I would still get the <no subject> headers, but at least this way the messages could be organized and I could read the conversation without having to look at each contact separately and compare the message with the timestamp from when it was sent.
The apps I've seen (like POWOW) can create chat groups, but it requires that my friends join the chat, or reply to some strange number each time, and it's really just an unnecessary hassle for them. I don't want that.
Anyone know of an app, or a way of grouping contacts together like this?
I'm on CM7 using the "Messaging" app.
Handcent has this feature. Free @ play store.
