[Q] would a Ubuntu touch port be possible? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I really enjoy Ubuntu and wondered if at all possible, could Ubuntu touch be ported to our device? As in one of the official builds for the nexus 4.
If so, would data eventually be working or would it be a dream in the clouds? Im not a developer, otherwise I would have already tried to port it, and my computer is much too old to run a stable build envirement. I would be glad to help anyone willing to attempt a port of it, as I may not be a developer, but I am always willing to learn.
I have S-off from dirtyracun and have prabably flashed over 20 different roms on this phone.

I have watched that ROM for quite some time and isn't it only the developer preview while the official for the nexus 4 has far more of the bugs worked out and cause devs less trouble porting it? With possible data connection?

I honestly haven't kept up with it in awhile. I've started messing with Ubuntu on my laptop and I, too, would like to see it on this phone. Maybe it won't be long before somebody gets it and starts working on a port.

I used to dual boot Ubuntu and windows 7 on my laptop when I still had it. It was very fun using Ubuntu, I often used it just to figure it all out. But it got stolen so I have a very very outdated desktop now. Having a fully functional port of it would be very awesome. So I figured a port of the official release would be much easier.

[Help] Looking to port a rom to CDMA Evo 3D, STUCK!! :(

Hi. I'd like to start by saying that first off this is my first time messing about with this kind of thing, and what i know is from various threads on porting different roms to different devices. i dumped the rom from the Meizu M9 (GSM) 2.0.5 firmware, https://www.dropbox.com/s/oiyajvv8x37em8e/meizu m9 rom dump.zip and tried porting it to the CDMA Evo 3D. All my attempts have either led me to getting stuck at the HTC splash screen, or boot looping at a black screen after the splash screen. I've pulled multiple logcats, with each of the outcomes they say different things but when i try to troubleshoot i get nowhere. So, what i'd like to know is if a dev could take a look at the rom dump, see if it is even possible to port this or if they would even be willing to take on porting it . If nobody wants to try to port it, i'd really appreciate pointers or tips on getting it to boot/run if its even possible
Edit: if it makes any difference, an earlier version of this rom (android 2.2) was ported to the Evo 4g last year. So -- it should be possible to get it running on the evo3d right?
Did you set the mount blocks right?
block 23 is for system
block 24 is for data
could also just be that it doesn't work. When porting from one device to another, 90% of the stuff won't work.

yeah, set them right. could be it doesn't work - but I'm a noob at this, and don't want to give up unless a dev tells me that it just isn't possible^
I hope you will be able to get this working somehow. Because just love the Meizu skin. It's kinda like MIUI but better

[Q] Pure ICS question

Hello everyone. I am new to android. I came from a Nexus that I had for a week. Before that, I was an iPhone owner since the beginning. Loving my EVO LTE so far, except for the fact that my data doesn't work outside wi-fi. I'm hoping it's because I am in an LTE city... hoping it's maintenance.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the Pure ICS on the Nexus. Is there anyway I can get that on my EVO. The dialer and everything? I'm rooted on MeanRom.
Thank you from a noob!
I'm not rooted, but I installed rocketdial pro and they have a theme that looks like the nexus. I disabled the caller ID function, tho because it only worked part of the time.

The CM forum is here -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683384
CM9 isn't 100% stock Android, but the UI is nearly the same. The unofficial CM9 port is working well enough to be a daily driver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683384
If you're totally new to this, you'll need to S-OFF/HTC unlock (I recommend S-OFF) your phone, install a recovery (go with TWRP), and then wipe your phone and flash the CM9 ROM.

any help with phone switch at sprint?

i have the lte, and i've got screen discoloration and dead spots.
Is there any hope i can exchange it for a [refurbished] galaxy siii instead of them replacing it with another evo lte? how would i even go about asking them for this in a way they might be receptive to?
thanks

Just ask, tell them that your not happy with your phone and could they just replace it with the s3. The worse that can happen is they tell you no.

If you return the handset within 7 days, you can swap it out for another handset. Did you purchase insurance for the LTEVO? Also, call your local Sprint store, and ask what their policies are. HTH!

no, I was an evo banned-embargo waiting pre order. at the time, everyone was still saying how amazingly awesome the one-x line was and that the siii was gonna be "just an sii updated with the newest chips," and after playing with everyone's giii's, and the horrible software on this evo, I'm desperate to make the switch. I'm so sad too, as I've always been htc over Samsung's stuff, til this generation. that siii is a bad boy!
I know they will replace my evo for me, but I'd so rather find a way to switch instead of a new updated-and-boot-locked evo. I just don't want to go try, have them say no and note my account, then if I find a way to switch before my 2 years,I can't because my account already shows I was trying to switch before.
try craigslist... Im switching mine tomorrow for a gs3.. Some people still love the EvoLTE and hate the gs3.. So you might get lucky like I did..
If your are outside of the 14 days you have to return the device you cannot exchange it.

Agreed. That "bad boy" is not all that "bad" in my time playing with it. Unless you mean "bad" literally, and not "bad" as in "good", as I assumed you meant.

If I wanted to be honest, about the best you could do is call Sprint Retentions and say the phone hasnt lived up to expectations for you
I do somewhat know how to program it,a lot from what's on xda here... did the button re mapping, the wifi fix, rooted.. but what else do you guys mean to program it so I can use it more pleasantly? cm10 isn't done yet, at least not without working camera. the htc camera/imaging isn't extracted yet. I haven't found a fix for the non-working-right multitasking on this thing, and I've recently had the sense take forever to re start whenever I press home! if someone can point me to a complete aosp rom or fixes how to unleash the awesome sauce, PLEASE let me know! I see a lot coming on the future but when?
plus, like I said, still need the screen fixed... and I know I'll get one with the ota update and have to USSR the htc boot loader thing... I'd prefer not to.
jeez, yes I just read this post I typed,I know it sounds like a whiney sob rant, so let me stop here. just frustrated... I just WANT to love the evo like I did my og evo!
CM10 has a working camera. No, it isn't ImageSense, but neither was your OG EVO you're longing for. CM10 is incredible for its age, and rapidly improving. It has working LTE now! This thing is only missing a few small things, and is already daily driver material. Or...
Run Viper4G man, it is incredible. Smooth as CM10 with amazing tweaks. Or the SuperLTE base collaboration project thingy. Or MeanROM. Or Stock with Goodies. Overclocking using EvilZ or Enoch does wonders for smoothness. We have Google Now working on ICS. I mean really, what does the S3 have that beats out the aforementioned?

I will read up on those roms. I know the few I was aware of weren't done yet, I know cm has nightlies, but nothing has been released final without bugs yet. a lot are like that, with something not done yet.
its not that the siii has stuff I don't have on the evo, its that it just works smoothly and I haven't seen the little bugs. and the multi tasking actually seems to work well.
I got a nexus 7 a couple weeks ago, and I think it spoiled me. ever since I got it, the little issues I had with the evo have become almost unacceptable!!

Viper4G is done in my opinion. Everything works wonderfully for most users. They did some heavy testing before releasing to work out the kinks. MeanROM and many more are as stable as it gets. CM10 is the only one with real multi-tasking, but as I said, the thing really only lacks video at this point, which I can live with.
And come on... If you had a Nexus, this phone has many things that will spoil you if you go back to your Nexus. Screen resolution and clarity, screen size, camera quality, kickstand, etc.
Edit: You said Nexus 7...nevermind.

Currently the only phone on the replacement list is the EVO, so swapping in store is going to be unlikely. Retentions might be able to help you.
For further clarification after purchase one has 14 days to return a device or exchange it. Echangung a device carries a $35 restock unless the device is defective...not 7, not 30. 14 days.be Leary of stores willing to swap or return a device beyond that. ETFs will be charged/upgrades lost and the store will be unable to reverse

Open WebOS, anyone interested?

Hi there, it's me again!
After being away for quite some time due to a lot of issues with my netbook, and being busy with school, I recently checked the progress on the Flyer. As expected, Dexter did an excellent job already on Jelly Bean.
I tried the ROM, and I gotta say I'm quite satisfied with it. FWIW, I am thinking about getting the 3.0 kernel from the DHD to run on the Flyer. But, I have another project I'm thinking about which sounds more interesting.
So, is anyone interested in Open WebOS on the HTC Flyer? I am considering to give it a try this week, but only if there is some potential interest from the community. It would pretty much be an effort where I try to combine various challenges: getting WebOS to boot, and getting the Raspberry Pi to compile Android kernels, since my netbook does a horrible job at this.
Please report if it sounds interesting for you, and if I get positive answers, I'll do some research on the structure of OWOS.
Although WebOS seems nice I'd rather see you beat the crap out of JB and try to get it fully working until you say "I can't take this any further".

I'm not sure, I actually think JB has 1 major dev working on it. Sometimes it's better to have multiple, good, mostly stable options too chose from than 1 completely perfect one.
That aside, I don't use bluetooth headset so some people who do really want the devs to pool their work into that.
I'm all for web os though. And dual boot (don't push yourself ) would be awesome.

I am using the latest JB ROM atm., and I'm wondering (since I haven't followed the development the last 2 months): what is really broken atm? Aside from bluetooth.
Mine VM with Ubunto is stil there for u if u decide to give Flyer some more of your time. Am I interested? I am interested in Flyer with as much hardware working posible; working BT for voice calls, music and movei playback. As long as those work well i dont care even if it is Win 3.11EE if it runs nice and smooth. However Geting camera and hw movie playback suport on JB would be very nice and would get the ROM to TOP level. U cracked those nuts on ICS; any way u give it a try on JB?
Welcome Back CHAOS I agree with Antis (even though I don't really Know the advantage of WebOs) i was hoping that You could do something like get the front camera working for Skype

No HW playback support, no cammera and videorecorde, some flickering i belive,... rest is nearlly all there! So close to top BUT BT is FIXED (no report if for calls as well but rest been tested and reported 100% working BT functionalities)

Rom with least maintenance?

I was just at my folks' house for the holiday weekend and realized that my dad has been using my old Sprint Evo 3D. My job took my to Shanghai last summer for ten months, so I picked up a GNex and left my Evo in a box at my parents' house when I left the country. I was surprised to see my dad using it, and I noticed it's running a very old version of cyanogenmod. I'm sure that thing is pretty buggy in terms of software compatibility by now, so I want to get him on something a little more current and stable.
He is not tech savvy at all, so simpler is better. I've been exclusively on Nexus devices for over a year now, so I'm pretty out of the loop in terms of what is happening with Sense and the rom options available for this phone. Should I just return him to stock and make sure he has all the OTA updates? Or is there another option that anyone can recommend? Ideally, whatever I put on there should require as little maintenance/upkeep as possible. Thanks for your suggestions.

Hi,
It only depends on what your dad is going to prefer.
I think is now ok with cyanogenmod look so you can give a try to Johnylist roms where almost everything is working on last android version, but needs to be often updated
If you are looking for a stable rom with everything that works, including 3d then for me, best sense roms are actually yoda's or coolexe's ones.
I think a sense 3.6 based rom is the better choice for your dad.

I'm running Dirty Unicorns with 4.2.2 and haven't had a single issue. That being said, if someone who isn't tech savvy is taking over my phone, I'm putting it to a stock (rooted obviously) rom. Remove any stock apps that aren't necessary and go with it. It's going to be the most stable and trustworthy. Even the best ROMs like CM and such have the occasional hiccup that could render the device useless in the hands of someone without the know how to get it going again.
