How do you change the lockscreen to have animated wallpaper?
Not possible with the stock lockscreen, but it might work with a 3rd party lockscreen app. Check the Play Store.

How do you change icons to custom icons and how are people changing the clock colors or getting different clocks on the lock screen? Do you have to be rooted? Im usjng nova launcher, is there an option in nova options that im missing?

If you are talking about that you change the wallpaper in the lockscreen and now even when you change the wallpaper in the homescreen doesn't change the lockscreen wallpaper, then just change the theme to other color the lockscreen will "return to normal" to change with the homescreen wallpaper

So I started using the Apex Launcher with the MIUI Minimal icon pack.
How can I make the icons theme on the lockscreen.
How can I change the icon to a different one in the drawer?

its not possible to change the lock screen themw without using a alternative lock screen app or flashing a lock screen theme (required a custom rom like cyanogenmod and a rooted phone)

You could use the app called "widgetlocker" to add widgets to your lockscreen and another app like "UCCW" or "Desktop Visualizer" to create a shortcut with any image you want
