Today I was at an at&t store so I compared the screens of mega and my note 2 side by side. I played the same YouTube video on both devices. Boy how come I've never realized how yellow the whites look on my note 2, and yet it's pure white on the mega. I just don't get it. Isn't the note 2 supposed to be a high end flagship?
That fact is related to the phisical type of the screen: while it's an amoled on your Note 2, like my Razr, it's an LCD on the Mega. This means that whites are a lot better on the Mega, but blacks are better on amoled phones, because an amoled screen shows blacks by turning off every single pixel. People love LCDs for their color accuracy (for example, SuperLCDs mounted on HTCs), or prefer amoleds for their rich colors and high contrast ratio. Modern Samsungs have a tool for adjusting color temperature and saturation, and even Nokias have the same tool, to help you find screen colors that fits you and prevent over saturation!
Hope this explaination helps!

I knew about the green/blueish tint on my original Note but I never realized that it was that bad. Same goes with the black clipping/crushed.
I knew of course about them too as with almost all other "problems" but boy, playing the same clips with the Mega or the Note on top or and the other one below, what a difference.
You guys can download a bunch of High quality clips beloew. But also any quality 1080p trailer will do(e.g Transformers). Also Sintel, Big buck bunny etc.

True. The difference is obvious between them(Note 1 vs Mega) but I'm really satisfied with the Mega's screen.
I'm a huge fan of Amoled's, but I can say that my first ownership experience with a quality LCD is going quite well so far. More than well actually.
AMOLED is great but it needs more development to work out the problems it has (yellowish/bluish whites, black clipping/crush, screen deterioration, real rgb subpixels, etc). These problems are very obvious when you compare screens side by side specially with the Mega's SC LCD (super clear).
How well do you know your fifty shades of grey? Rate this thread to express how good the Xiaomi Mi A1's display contrast is. A higher rating indicates that black is true black, rather than a very dark gray.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I will rate contrast only as 4 because ... OLED You really have no right to rate IPS panels anything above 4 stars by definition.
While not as good as oled, I'll say that the A1 has a good contrast. I've enabled software keys on mine and there's very little different of blacks between the software keys and the bottom chin of the phone. Even in low light environments. Called me impressed.
A1's black is worse than my previous Nexus 5X's black, which is also IPS
I had 4 Mi A1 in my hands and 4 total different displays. 2 Takaii, 2 Focal.
1 Focal is brilliant white and superb contrast. 1 Focal is good, good contrast and white is little bit yellowish.
Takaii is pure bull****. You will feel sad having a takaii and seeing a focal. No contrast, totally yellowish and one also greenish.
So this thread means nothing without telling which lcd manifacturer...

I thought Mi A1 only had either tianma or ilitek displays. I have never heard of takaii or focal displays.

I'm interested in this topic, my Mi A1 has a bit yellow whites and dull blacks in comparison to my Idol 3 5.5 which has a standard IPS panel instead of LTPS IPS. My LCD panel is ilitek, isn't this panel the Focal one? I guess there is another parameter that gives this yellow tint.
I've noticed that when I watch youtube videos the people's skin looks a little bit yellowish and in general I don't like in general that the yellow seems a little bit off .How do you have your own color balance?
There is no best when it comes to colors, you can change the colors in the display setting to what ever you like.

Yeah skins color looks better with amoled photo mode too bad reds are a little bit washed out there
I just set it to Adaptive Display.
If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
It would also be helpful if people posting in here would compare the Note 9's color accuracy to the S9/S9+ and/or of course the Note 8 too.
I'm so tired of Samsung inconsistencies with screen colors. Note 9 On top and note 8on bottom. To me the note 8 seems to have the better cleaner whites. The note 9 seems to be pushing a dirty white even compared to my iPhone x. Setting to maximum brightness indoors the iPhone x gets the brightest.
I got my Note 9 yesterday and I immediately noticed that my Note 8 has more vibrant colors. Note 9 seems slightly washed out compared to it. All settings are exactly the same on both phones.
So how are these getting rated as the most amazing, accurate screen ever? It clearly isn't based on the images in this thread... Or are these just isolated cases?
I think the "Basic" setting looks pretty good. The default "Adaptive" mode is terrible. WAY oversaturated.

When viewing the screen at anything over a 30 degree angle, I get a very slight blue tint. Is that normal?

Yeah... This is kinda annoying. I don't recall my S8 doing this anywhere near as bad.
I noticed the colors didn't pop and weren't overly vibrant like my S8. The Note 9 I believe are much more true and accurate.
I came from using an LG V20 for just over a year and a half. The screen on that one wasn't bad but the burn in was unreal after about 6 months of using it. I have to say that I love this Note 9 screen, it's sad to hear some users say the Note 8's is better

I don't agree with some of the users here. I got both phones, and believe me the Note 9 screen is better than the Note 8, not enough to blow the Note 8 out of the water but it is better.
Both phones are amazing pieces of technology, and any one can be happy with either of them, but to say that the Note 8 has better display is very inaccurate.

Fingers crossed it was because my n8 screen was more "aged" that it looked better. Either way, it is what it is. Now I just compared my old note 8 and my wife's note 8 to my note 9 screen again.
When comparing the brightness slider bar on the note 8 compared to the note 9, the note 8 appears to be much brighter with same screen mod and given slider values than the note 9. Even turned fully up to Max brightness the note 8 was brighter.
Someone also who has an n8 should compare.. I just compared two note 8s to my note 9.

Custom kernel would allow complete control over color and saturation. Not sure why samsung doesn't offer it in stock setup. EVERY screen varies. Not just phone screens, but all including TV's.
What's this best setting for best display?

Well, in auto brightness mode, the Note9 is brighter than iPhoneX. But of course you have to test it under direct light.
To be honest my old oneplus 3 has good colors than nord 2.
Because most of the phones today prefer to have good and calibrated colours rather than punchy and over-satured.
You still can go to the colour screen settings menu and choose "Vivid" instead of "Gentle" for more saturated colours on the Nord 2

vivid is still not look good bro. Even mi 11x has saturated. I used to see saturated colors on my previous devices so disappointed with that. For me it's like the colors are dull buts it's okay. I'll get used to it.
On the vivid setting the colours are obnoxiously over-saturated and wrong...
... Perhaps you have some sort of color-blindness? The colors are plenty saturated.

I have used many devices but the nord 2 colors is good but not great. Even comparing to my oneplus 3 nord 2 not good to be honest. The colors are preference but disappointed. There is no issues with the display it's just the software does not have that option.

According to reviews the Oneplus3 has much more worse color accuracy (too much saturated) and is less bright
Oneplus 3 :
max brightness = 420 cd/m²
color accuracy = deltaE 6.0 (normal) & 3.1 (sRGB) (less is better)
Oneplus Nord 2 :
633 cd/m²
deltaE 3.6 (vivid) & 2.1 (gentle)
Saturated fake colors are a thing from the past, today phones tend to go to accurate colors. They are less pleasant/saturated to the eye but at least they are accurate to reality.
