G2 (and just about every other android phones out there) have a fast dormancy support.. what it does is managing and optimizing carrier data traffic to get better battery life by constantly switching on/off data connection..
However it only works well on carriers that support such feature.. if it operates on unsupported carrier it will interfere with the connection itself thus gaining no benefit and drains the battery..
ONLY WORKS ON 3G/HSDPA NETWORK
How to disable it:
Go to Phone
Type 3845#*[xxx]# Where [xxx] is your G2 model
AT&T = 800
T-Mobile = 801
International= 802
[*]Korean = 320 Settings not available on Hidden Menu
[*]Verizon = Same as above
Select Settings > FastDormancyMode
Choose Disabled
Reboot
Please check and do some research first if Fast Dormancy function is supported by your carrier before disabling it..
According to my observation after disabling the fast dormancy, data connection are much more stable and connection drop are nonexistent (yet).
The phone feels cooler and social media apps (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) also loads faster..
Overall it's looking really good on mine so far, please share if you also noticed something after disabling it..
Thanks and have a good day

Can someone put up a list of carriers that have fast dormancy, I cant find any info on Telus regarding fast dormancy
as far as i know, fastdormancy is a GSM thing. so verizon wont have that option. could be wrong.
Can you describe how to find out if the carrier does or doesn't support the Fast Dormancy?
I am seeing you're Indonesian. Does Telkomsel support or doesn't?

I know, but there is no option for fast dormancy in there.Actualy i cannot find settings.
With D801 on T-Mobile typing in the code mentioned in the op wasn't working but copying the entire thing and then pasting it in the dialer worked like a charm.
Disabled fast dormancy, we'll see if it makes a difference.
FYI, there's a ton of diagnostics and other stuff in that menu as well.

seems you're right, after some research i found out that fast dormancy only works on HSDPA network..
could be the main reason why the setting menu is unavailable..

From what I have been able to find TELUS and Bell support fast dormancy however Rogers does not. I personally am on Rogers, and after disabling it found no change to network speed as of yet but significantly better battery life when not on Wi-Fi.
Worked exactly as described in the op.
Thanks

Will this phone work in Singapore? Looking at the frequencies, it seems like it should.
I'm running CM10.1
While in singapore, I tried turning the phone on and it would not get a signal.
I tried the different "Preferred Network Mode" options but no help.
Might this be because I needed to get a SIM card in singapore and install it?
Would I need to call up verizon and get it "unlocked" before I can do this?

I believe the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE is not carrier locked, so you shouldn't have to get it unlocked before you can use a different SIM.

Besides the LTE do the two phones have anything else different?
Mostly interested if the addition of the LTE on the i9205 will affect its performance/battery life compared to the i9200?
I ask this because I never buy LTE phones, never used it and don't intend to for now since the networks here don't support it,
so no need for it but I cannot find the 3G i9200 anywhere in Europe to buy it. Only the LTE i9205.
If it has no performance/battery loss then I will be "forced" to buy the LTE version and be done with it.
So even if I buy the LTE version I read that it has a second cellular modem that works with normal 3G/GSM networks?
I don't wanna buy it and then discover its not working on any network here.
I will really appreciated if someone can give me an answer to my concerns. Thanks.
UPDATE: I managed to get the 3G version I wanted in first place. You can view the thread below.

The i9205 works with 2G, 3G, and 4G. Your network doesn't have to to be LTE capable for it to work.

Hi J,
I flashed it with about 5 different firmwares using Oden still no luck. I do want it badly knowing i have a 4g phone and no 4g.
Im in Sri lanka using Dialog carrier. I got the phone from states through a friend. I have read the forum from up to down to find a solution.
I know Oden helps you upgrade it (seen on you tube) but still it does not help, I wonder if there is a problem with the software it self.
I would try any suggestions at this time.
Thanks
After happily using my 'old' S4 on T-Mobile with HSPA+ since having the Note 3 as my primary line, I was naturally excited to update the baseband and unlock Band 4 LTE. However I noticed some caveats which I've now solved which will undoubtedly confuse everyone at some point.
Assuming you've got the correct APN for T-Mo (fast.t-mobile.com) and naturally install the SIM, if your phone is on global you will happily see working LTE but not so fast (no pun intended). If you call or text, it fails. If you quick check your About -Status in settings and look under network it will say say Unknown and not T-Mobile. Why? Essentially you're in LTE data only mode because by default the baseband is looking to connect to CDMA for everything else in the CDMA/LTE marriage that is Verizon unique, which obviously won't work here. The assumption otherwise is that you will only need GSM if traveling internationally so it never looks for LTE with GSM.
The quick easy fix is to drop out of Global back to the GSM/UMTS setting, which will bring everything back, network restored to T-Mobile, but now it won't use LTE again, lame.
Luckily there is a fix. Use the PhoneInfo app or however you prefer to get to the Testing App. Under device information change the dropdown to LTE/GSM (auto PRL). Toggle airplane mode or restart. When it comes up you should be on LTE and quick check settings again you'll see T-Mobile, and everything will work. So far this seems to hold pretty well.
EDIT: Note: This works for TW Roms. I have not had success in CM10.2. In CM I've only gotten LTE data (wrongly labeled Verizon) and nothing else. Doesn't even pick up my phone number regardless of settings used.
Can you send me the link to the TW rom you are using for this? Thanks!

I am using this app and it is great. When it works, it would show T-Mobile as Net. Op instead of Unknown. Only issue I am seeing is that 4G LTE signal is not so great over where I am at and once in a while it would drop to H+ and then get back to LTE. During that cycle, the Net. Op would become Unknown again. Wish there was a way to fix this permanently like tricky the SMS app to send GSM or whatever it is causing Net Ops to be unknown.

Couple of things. Remember as I started with the baseband in i545 when on LTE really wants to use CDMA as the default so when it's searching it's not going to obtain GSM as instantaneous As it otherwise would. Don't see any specific way of that getting patched ever as we're going against the grain of how it's typically supposed to be used. If you are on a fringy area for it, you may be better off just leaving LTE off, H+ speeds are practically the same anyway. Tmo is only using 3-5mhz channels for band 4 as they use other channels too so for us it's not going to be superfast like Verizon on average anyway.
My phone is in Global mode, I have fast LTE internet and calls/texting works just fine. I am using a Verizon S4 with MJ7 and a T-Mobile simcard. No need to change anything except the APN and switch to Global.

yep, cant really install anything on MJ7 since there is no official root even, so yeah, bone stock. Fastest I have gotten the internet to be was 25-26mbps download which isnt great, but for a cellphone is more than enough lol

so using the 4.4 gummy rom you were able to connect to LTE / HSPA+ networks easily? And SMS / MMS worked just fine? Upon trying with the MJ7 update, non-rooted, I could only connect to Edge services under the GSM profile. Using global would barely warrant the HSPA band.

Are you actually getting "LTE" or reframed 4G?
please school me how to change apn.
well let me give you a trick, flash an i9505 rom which you can find them here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/i9505-develop
then flash any verizon kernel (because if you just flash an at&t or t-mob rom it wont reboot it will say triangle and not authorized verizon software)
dont forget to update your baseband to lastest then you can enjoy LTE (and fast) without any problems.
if you get and prop. issues while flashing international roms just change the "updater-script" first line to :
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "jfltevzw" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "jfltevzw"
then you can flash anything you want.
Here is how I did it
Here is how I did it, but needs some minor updates since then. Please let me know if anyone tries it and is happy with the result.

Yes, and Secure Wi-Fi has now been added. I think it previously existed only on the European firmwares. Now we get it, too.
Any way to see if AT&T Wifi Calling will work as I do not see the option in Settings? I have US Unlocked GS9 on AT&T
If I flash this U1 for my ATT phone (running full Tmobile firmware now),
will I have Wifi calling with Tmobile? Or Wifi calling only works with Verizon with U1

Despite what the websites like to post, there really isn't a VZW U1 and an ATT U1. There's just XAA U1. You'll get Wi-Fi Calling on every carrier with it now, except for ATT.

Reading up on it (short summary) this is because AT&T uses a database of IMEI numbers to provision WiFi calling and VoLTE. Since our IMEI numbers from our phones are not in that database we won't be able to use WiFi calling or VoLTE.
Makes sense but is ridiculous for AT&T to restrict it. Has anyone ever called to ask to have thier Unlocked IMEI added to this "list" so that these features will work? Seems like it is a disadvantage for AT&T if it works for TMo and now Verizon but not AT&T...?
Just curious...

It's odd for sure. Verizon has always had VoLTE on unlocked too. At least since the S7. Probably before that. ATT has never felt the need to change the policy.

Who can say if it's disadvantageous or not, for all we know it might be the technology differences between the networks. Also it does make sense... having specific IMEI numbers known to connect to carrier specific services like wifi calling and VoLTE ensures that everything works. It doesn't make it convenient for us and I will admit it would be nice to have the features.. but for calling via wifi there are options.
Personally I use pbx in a flash and bria softphone. With the right VoIP provider it's a good setup and doesn't break the bank at all. I haven't even spent more then 5 bucks maybe in a month. For me this is better then wifi calling and I don't have any problems.
As for adding our IMEI to that database I tried inquiring about it, but I do recall reading where some people may have had luck in doing this. I suspect it may require a bit of luck and/or perserveriance after my last discussion with AT&T customer service.
I explained the situation and what needed to be done while being placed on hold a few times. As the call continued I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too, but I admit it is not easy when he is saying that just because I see H data speed that it's actually VoLTE. When I mentioned the speed test and how it was H data speed (and that H data speeds are not VoLTE) he was saying that H data speeds were like blazing fast compared to LTE..
I had to politely finish the call before I either started to laugh or feel sorry for that rep.

In my case I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too. After waiting on hold a few times the representative tried to say everything was normal.. and then proceeded but to say that just because I see H+ speed that it's actually VoLTE. When I mentioned the speed test and how it was H data speed (and that H data speeds are not VoLTE) he was saying that H data speeds were like blazing fast compared to LTE..

The only thing I've seen some people do successfully to get VoLTE working on an unbranded unlocked device is to have AT&T provision a SIM card to an IMEI of a phone that is AT&T branded and capable of VoLTE. Then use that SIM card on the unbranded unlocked device.

Do you recall seeing if they said this work for prepaid and/or postpaid?
If it's that simple i'm gonna have to find a phone capable of VoLTE and see if this works

Honestly don't recall, or if it was even mentioned.
So this new version includes wifi calling. You find this in the menu system somewhere? Does HD Voice also work and indicated like Verizon SM-G965U?

Hd voice always worked on unlocked for Verizon. Wifi calling is found in the phone app's settings.
I flashed G965U1UES3ARI1 for XAA to SM-G965U1 and I can't find settings for Wifi calling. Are they visible or just built in and assumed to be there?

What carrier are you on? It's supported for SPR, TMB, and now VZW. Look in the settings of the actual phone app, not the device settings.
Verizon. Found it. Thought it was in Settings. Thank you!

No problem. You're not the first person to look for it in the wrong place. U1 builds always place the setting there. So they stayed consistent doing it this way.
