i was using some jelly bean sony rom by divaksh (it had cwm touch) and i wanted to try the new cm10.2 rom by munjeni
i downloaded the cm10.2, put it on my external sd card through a usb micro-sd reader and then put the µsd back in the phone
i selected "reboot to recovery" from the phone's power menu (i had an xposed module for more power menu options)
then i noticed that the phone didn't reboot, but it had turned off completely
i held the power button and the phone vibrated but didn't power on
it powered on on the second try, i then went to the cwm recovery by tapping the volume down key
(i was going to make a backup of the current system, but i forgot it lol)
i flashed the cm10.2 zip (cm10.2_pepper-ota-eng.root_Build.1.zip) without doing any wipes, because i wanted to get to the correct version of cwm recovery
(i would've properly done the wipes/formats from the cwm recovery that is in the cm10.2 kernel)
it finished flashing the zip and i rebooted my phone, but then it didn't power on anymore
now when i hold down the power button, the phone makes a short vibration but nothing else
.
if i plug the phone to a charger, the led lights up (red) for approximately a second and then turns off
if i hold down "volume-down" and the power button, the phone vibrates once and flashes the led (green)
i've tried going into flashmode and fastboot mode but the light doesn't stay on for long and sony mobile flasher doesn't even notice the phone even though the drivers are installed
the "hold down power button and vol-up"-thing also works but it doesn't seem to do anything else than vibrate
what should i do?
Is your bootloader unlocked?

what?
Is it unlocked?
When I bricked my xperia p I flashed a custom kernel which allowed me to enter Cwm and then flashed the stock rom. I am new to this flashing thing so I recommend that you ask someone experienced what to do. I just shared my experience of recovering from a softbrick. Don't flash new things blindly but ask someone experienced before doing so.

Have you used flashtool to flash firmware before on that PC?
Have you installed flashtool and it's drivers (sola, flash & fastboot mode).?
Make sure the phobe is off, press power + volume up untill you feel 1 + 3 vibrations and see if it stay in flash mode longer.
Just Flash stock
i have nearly the same problem
my xperia u was running with 4.1 then i restored my ta backup its mine not for someone else then i pressed reboot instead of power off then my phone is dead no vibration no led except the one when i plug it to charger just one red led then nothing

Same problem here, I think that Munjeni's post is bad written.
Ok, I fixed it, follow my instructions as they goes. You have to flash the .img kernel that CM10.2.zip comes from.
For flashing it, go as follows...
First try to install the following drivers, with Flashtool. The executable is in C:\\Flashtool\drivers
Run as adminsitrator and follow screen instructions, allow any driver install.
When it's ready, try to plug in the phone in fastboot mode (turn off, hold power and vol up and release power button, led has to turn blue/violet/pink, whatever, a color like that)
Run flashtool.
Flashtool will recognize the phone as the log says, if its not try to install drivers mannually.
If it's recognized then click the black lightning button and select fast boot mode.
At the right side click "Select kernel to flash" and browse the kernel that comes in the .zip. (in the file you've downloaded you have to extract a boot.ini because is the main kernel to make the ROM work, so you have to put somewhere else, I prefer desktop)
When selected, log writes all the procedure until it show an "OKAY[time]" message.
Finally click "Reboot device into system" in the center side and wait until boots.
It should be working now, I spent a lot of hours investigating, but finally I fixed, hope it works for you too!
If there's an error or some question, feel free to post.

That was "the long run" for windows-guys.
For Linux - no drivers needed anyways - just download fastboot from anywhere and look for kernel. Put them in a personal directory. Open and run in a terminal (some have to be login as su) "fastboot flash boot kernel.img" (or whatever kernel is called...), plug phone in usb, while press and hold power and volume-up buttons. Blue LED comes shining and terminal tell you the flashing.
Unplug or type "fastboot reboot" to re-start phone.
Sure, you also can use FlashTool, too. But for only flashing a kernel it is not needed. Only for flashing stockrom ftf. But this is another story.

If I wrote for Windows 8 there will be more than that, believe me. Managing Android with Linux is a lot easier, from flashing to programming.
But, face it, Windows is the standard here.

I hope this is in the right section, don't know as I am new to XDA.
But I have a real issue. Here goes.
I recently updated my Xperia S to ICS. And I thought I want to root it.
So I went ahead and started, but when I should have placed a zip file on my internal memory, I extracted the files there instead.
So no, on CWM, when I am supposed to install from .zip file, I can't, since I do not have .zip file there.
I have tried almost all of the options on CWM on the phone, nothing works and I just get back to the start.
So my question is, how do I get out of the loop?
Is there any way I can access my phones files? So I maybe can put the SuperSU .zip file in the directory?
I can boot the phone in fastboot mode, but then it doesn't show on the computer.
Or maybe I can just reverse everything? An easy way, because I am not the best when it comes to this. I have found some solutions, but they ALL require that you put files on your SD card. Only problem is that my phone doesn't have SD card, only internal memory. ANd I can't access that right now.
Please help
Download Flashtools from http://androxyde.github.com/
Download a stock ftf rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599303
Put the downloaded rom in the flashtool/firmwares/ folder, then go to flashtool/drivers/ folder and run Flashtool-drivers.exe, when that has finished restart your computer.
Turn phone off, now press and hold the volume down button and connect the phone to your computer with the usb cable, when you get a green led you can let go, you are now in flash mode.
Start up flashtool, or flashtool64 if your on an x64 system, click the thunderbolt icon in the top left corner, select flashmode and click ok, in the left hand window select the rom you downloaded and then click ok in the bottom right corner.

Is your Bootloader unlocked?
Hello, I'm having the same problem too, but I wonder how do I "turn off" the device, since I keep pressing the top button to do this and it reboots and goes into CWM mode? Will I have to remove the battery?
Good news. Luckily I managed turn off the device. In the CWM main menu, keep the cursor positioned over the option that resets the device. Hold down the power button and immediately after, press the volume up and hold. Wait until the device vibrates 3 times. Now ready you run the procedure to connect in download mode and reinstall your firmware.
You guys must have used cmd to flash nozomi-recovery.img?

Yeah, exactly. I used recovery-nozomi.img with CWM version 5.5.0.4 ... but I made a mistake in not installing SuperSU.

Nothing to worry... Happened to me too.
Use flashtool to reflash entire ftf(if you have ulbl) else use SEUS to repair (if you have lbl, I hate pcc!).
If lbl.... Then ulbl.
Use cmd to flash a custom kernel(don't use doom kernel its for gb).
Finished....
Thank... If helpful

Had a similar problem.. FIxed it with a lot of reading but now dnt remeber anymore :/
I'm having this problem too...
Almost everything is ready for flashing now, except the phone is not really turning off, even after 3 vibrates when holding down power and volume up... It turns off, but coming back in flash process!
That's how far I can go: It turns off, I hold down volume down, connect it to PC, have a green light. Flashtool see the phone, I push Flash button,Program gives "Device connected in flash mode" message, then "Selected Xperia s (LT26i)_WORLD_6,1,A,2,50_IT.flf" message, "Preparing files for flashing" message and "Device disconnected" message, because this stupid Recovery back on my screen again...
If I just can find the way to turn off my phone, so it's not come back to live when connected to PC...

SOLVED!
I manage to fix it!
Just wait for Flashtool to give error message (with phone picture and USB cable in it) and ask to reconnect device. Unplug device, press power button and volume up button until vibrate 3 times. Push volume down and plug usb cable, to get green light. Flashtool continue process from where it was broken.
Error message popped up not from first try, so hopefully this will be helpful to somebody...

I think this recovery.img was not walid... I did that with my phone too, and nothing appear in screen. U have to flash another kernel (i suggest, the doomlords kernel). After that turn on the phone, and press the volume up, when doomlord logo appears.
hope it helps.

If you tried the methods above with no joy it obviously isn't installed. With the cwm you are trying is there a .bat file in the download on your computer. If so while your phone is plugged into PC run the bat file and follow onscreen instructions. Then try launching cwm again. If you havnt managed it yet leave a message and I'll find it.

I am posting here as I am facing the same problem.
I have been following this guide to flash my phone with CM10 from ICS stock rom.
h#ttp#://androidlegend.com/xperia-s-update-to-android-4-1-jelly-bean-with-cyanogenmod-10/
I have successfully followed everything done previously, including Unlocking the bootloader, getting root access, installing busybox, using RecoverX to install CWM.
I copied the FXP150-cm-10.1-20121209-UNOFFICIAL-mint.zip to sdcard, is it this that is required to flash to ROM or the boot.img that is inside the zip?
And I am stuck on that part where I have to reboot into recovery mode. I have tried
a) Connecting my phone and opening fastboot mode and then try to keep the vol up pressed to open recovery mode.
b) Without connecting, powering my phone on and pressing volume up. But there is no blue LED
c) Without connecting, powering my phone on and continuously tapping on sony logo. After that Xperia logo.
But I can not enter the recovery mode.
A little guidance please?
Flashing CM needed a seperate kernel. Keep following the instructions to use fastboot to flash the boot.img
Power the phone off. Hold vol + then plug the USB cable in. There should be a blue light.
Poorly written tutorial IMO. Should be flashing kernel first then the rom to save some panic.
I asked the Sony-Support, they say that there is no recovery-mode.(for Xperia U, but they are the "same")

Guys, dont ask Sony cause stock ROM doesnt have recovery.
If you want to flash CM you must fastboot the boot.img inside the zip file, before that put the ROM into your phone memory, power on the phone and keep pressing vol up, enter into CM recovery and flash rom from phone memory. Wipe before and after.
Agree, stock ROM doesn't have Recovery Mode. When you turn your phone with VOL_UP, nothing happens :cyclops:

try flashing it again, maybe your first flash had an error.
Met the same problem and here what I did:

Dear All,
I have a Sony Xperia U (European).
I used the update service to first competely update the phone to stock 4.0.4 (6.1.1.B.1.54)
Then I did the procedure to get the key and unlock the bootloader. That all worked fine.
Then I tried to do the root of the backup and restore. But I understand that doesn't work anymore.
So I found the following:
1. Flash ics 6.1.1.b.1.10 Kernel
2. Root with flashtools
3. Flash ics 6.1.1.b.1.54 Kernel
I have the drivers installed from the Flashtool folder. And the fastboot mode and flashboot drivers work in order.
After flashing the older kernel with the Flashtool the phone reboots and after that I when it boots everything become distorted and unresponsive.
I can see part of the OS and try to touch and 'something' will happen. But it doesn't seem to be normal.
The only thing I can do then is use the flashtool to relock the bootloader and then the update service to reflash back to stock again.
I have first search the whole subforum and read everything. But I can't seem to fine something about this.
Am I missing something?
The screen does go dark and awful using the older kernel. Just let it take its time to load and u can just about make out the screen to use the root tool. Although.... If you're bootloader unlocked just fastboot an auto rooting kernel

Phone Died?
Well for some reason the phone doesn't turn on anymore.
I thought I 'overdrained' it, so I put it all night long to charge it. But this morning still the same and it won't turn on.
The small red led just right of the camera lits up when I connect the charger so he sees something but what?
Cannot get in flash or fastboot mode. However sometimes I see the phone out of itself turn on the illumination bar (green) for just a few seconds.
The phone itself does nothing. But I'm thinking of a brick, unless someone else has some ideas?
Take these steps...may help

Try this...
1. Take out the battery and sim and leave it for minutes...then take in the sim and then battery.
2. connect the phone to a charger and wait for minimum 25 seconds and see what happenes...if some positive response you get...leave it charging as it is for some time minimum half hour.
[Before doing 3rd step download latest stock firmware 6.1.1.C.1.0 for your phone.(Please be sure for thats a stock original firmware)] - Search It-> [Stock ROM] Firmware 6.1.1.C.1.0 FTF ICS Xperia U - T-Mobile (Croatia)
3. connect your phone with the pc in flashmode and flash this firmware.
4. After flashing Restart the phone and wait for the setup and then you get then the power off button on your mobile screen, power off it.
5. Download TheBrains Recovery - Search it [Its a kernel having CWM Recovery Prerooted]
6. Now connect your phone in fastboot mode [While connecting your phone to pc press and hold Volume Up button]
7. Select a kernel to flash [Kernel that you downloaded just now]
8. After flashing unplug usb and restart your phone, when Sony logo appears and phone vibrates press Volume Up button again and again then you will come to CWM Recovery Menu.
9. Then from recovery wipe cache. and wipe dalvich cache [In advance option]
10. Now restart your phone and wait...and leave it for 5 mins.
11. Now your phone is updated and prerooted safely and smoothly... and yes ready for installing any stock based ROM or Custom ROM[which are based on latest C.1.0 firmware].

Unfortunately I cannot do step 3.
He just will not go into flashmode, tried different cables but that doesn't work. He won't go into fastboot either.
I've taken out the battery and sim for 5 days. Just to be sure . But I'm thinking it's bricked. This has never happened to me before.
I have unlocked and flashed many phones (mostly HTC's and Samsungs), but this is a first with Sony, hmm and first time a brick.

I had the same problem while rooting my phone too.
Follow These:
1.Install the latest PC Companion on your computer. It auto updates if you have it installed on your computer.
2.Download the kernels 6.1.b.1.10 and 6.1.b.1.54 and Flashtool. Make sure you have usb debugging on even before you flash the kernels.
3. With the help of flashtool flash your phone on .10 kernel reboot. The launcher might turn black and become unresponsive so enable usb debugging before flashing itself.
4. Start your phone after flashing .10 and connect to your computer.
5.Start Bin4ry v17 or v18. It a cmd file developed by a dev on xda. Just search for it. Rooting via flashtool wont work. Use Bin4ry
6. Press 1 and follow the steps. after the phone finishes rooting it it'll restart and confirm it.
7. Switch off your phone and flash 54 kernel
8. Pretty sure it'll work!
Worked for me! Hope it helped
Hi everyone,
i bought a second hand Xperia Pro which came wih Lupus Kernel and Ultimate HD rom. Now I wanted to try the stock firmware for comparison but i can't flash it.
I've followed several guides and searched on the forum with no luck. what i've done is basically
- installed flashtool, latest version
- downloaded the stock firmware and put the .tft in the firmware folder
- open the driver installer from the driver folder in flashtool and selecting fastboot, flashmode and xperia pro drivers to install
- click on the flash icon, select the correct firmware, click flash
- when the window with the animation asks for it i press and hold the volume down button and attach the usb cable. I keep pressing the button and the lupus logo appears, then nothing happen and the window with the usb cable animation goes on
i've tried several times and also on different computers... and... to get thing worse, i've just bricked my xperia :s after several attempts, a menu apeared on the display (i have no idea why, i must have done something different from the previous attempts) i think it was called lupus cwm. One of the options was about wiping the phone... i've tried with that one, then he asked me "Root access is missing. Root Device? This cannot be undone" and I choosed yes... not very wise to choose yes or no when you don't know what you are talking aobut, i know
So basically if i try to turn the phone freezes on the lupus logo and i have to pull the battery out. And, no need to say it, nothing has changed when it comes to trying to flash it with flashtool
any help will be much appreciated, i really don't know what else i could try now...

You did all the steps to flash the stock firmware ftf like it should be done! Please try to take off the battery, wait a few seconds, reinsert it and press and hold volume down while connecting the usb. A green led should light up and it should start flashing

thanks for your help. I've tried removing the battery but it's just the same. A blue led, not green, turns on for a couple of seconds on my xperia pro... i've recorded a short video so you can check that i'm doing everything properly...
OUCH i can't insert links :s youtube .com/ watch?v=_hIZMn9HrlA
so you think it's not a problem if i have bricked the phone wiping off the firmware? the flashing procedure should work the same?
MUAHHAHA got it!!! my phone is finally flashed! i was just pressing the wrong button :s even if all the guides specific for xperia pro were saying to pross the volume down button, i had to press the BACK button! and the led did turn on green indeed, as you were saying
just another question: what happened when that CWM menu asked me "Root access is missing. Root Device? This cannot be undone" and I choosed yes? does that mean i rooted the phone? and is it stil rooted or it's been overwritten by the original firmware i have just flashed?
thanks

I'm sorry, I forgot the thing about the back button instead of volume down, too
If you have an unlocked bootloader, your phone normally should automatically be rooted when you flash a custom kernel as (nearly) all kernels for our devices include this feature. But as you have flashed the stock firmware now, all was overwritten and you have to flash another custom kernel to get cwm back
ok, thanks a lot
Hello guys.
Hoping on your truly support. Have the problem, which cannot solve by myself.
Was trying to flash boot.img from CWM recovery 6.0.3.0 via fastboot. It flashes succesfully, but after rebooting the tablet it doesnt show any signs of life. Was trying EMMA for solving , Flashtool to change kernel, but when plug it through usb, it haven't launched and PC don't recognize any device connected. When i press Vol+ Vol- Power at the same time LED lights with white 3 times and that all.
Was using rooted Lollipop 5.1.1 with unlocked bootloader.
Is there any possibility to reanimate it or its finished totally.
Regards.
Edit.
Many thnx 2 Alok Bajaj for his solution:
Here's what you can do..
Press and hold the Power button and the Volume Up button for ten seconds until you see a white light flashing three times. While doing this somewhere around in 5 seconds you'll see white led flashing once, but keep on pressing those buttons till it flashes next three times.
After that your tablet will be turned Off.
You can put your device in flash mode and flash a new ROM from Xperia flash tool.
If you get the error "Unknown sources and USB debugging must me enable for flash mode, then your option can be to flash the ROM from fastboot.
Download a ROM (CyanogenMod or any with custom recovery).
Flash the boot.img via fastboot and reboot your device.
Once done you should see a led lit up while the device is booting (pink/magenta color in case of CyanogenMod).
Press the volume up/down button and you should be able to go to recovery mode.
From here you can recover your device easily
And before you do anything make sure you've charged your device well.
Good luck
Cheers mate!
hi,
thanks for the tutorial, I try it but*don`t see the second three blue blinks how long usually*takes to wait for them
Hi there! I think I have hardbricked my tablet (SGP321) too. The thing is, mine won't start, no matter what I press and do. If I press the power button it blinks white and if I press the UP button with it, it blinks three times. After that nothing happens. If I connect a USB to it, it just flickers first red and then green. And thats it.
I tried to flash [7.1] CyanogenMod 14 [POLLUX/POLLUX_WINDY][UNOFFICIAL] by CaHbKaUp and chose the Pollux Version from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-tablet-z/general/rom-cyanogenmod-14-t3496758. I also flashed the recommended GApps.
I whiped the sd-card in recovery (twrp) first and then flashed the new rom and GApps.
I think I chose the wrong version, maybe? I flashed my tablet once and I thought I could do it again, the same way as before. Guess I was wrong.
If there is anything I can do to get this back to work, please respond!
with regards
PsyPax

Didn't know about the bootloader.
Has Android 5.1.1 Stock rom,
rooted it
installed XZDualrecovery from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606
Then it showed up twrp and I flashed lineage-14.1-20170417-UNOFFICIAL-pollux.zip

So what are the steps now to get it running again?

Reflash device with Flashtool.
You can't flash custom ROMs with XZDR recovery.
