Hi there, dear Galaxians ;P
Long story short... I got my 3rd in a row Galaxy S2, but this one is a brand new, never opened SOB (I guess this is allowed here, if not sorry). Last two S2's were used. Nevermind.
Those first two has awesome saturation. This one was UGLY! Whites were pinky'ish, Green was eye-popping, and Movie setting didn't help a lot. For those who has normal saturation on Movie setting it was like I had Dynamic turned on. Well, I tried all possible software to make it look good. Then I found a post about it where one of our fellow friends wrote, he upgraded firmware and saturation issue were gone. Well, I wasn't happy hearing that as I consider myself stubborn and conservative 2.3.6 GB user. I guess when I buy Galaxy S 2000 in the future I will downgrade to 2.3.6 anyway, unless they invent week-lasting batteries with 5" or higher screens. Whatever...
Since I found aforementioned thread I was considering firmware upgrade but with another reason. What came to my mind was: "Geez, I got my previous S2's came with JellyBeans on borad and each time I downgraded to GB." Getting things together I found a connection here: "Is this possible that JellyBean can calibrate colors and saturation properly?" Well, my last, brand new S2 came with ICS so it wasn't good calibrated either. I decided to try it and upgrade to JB but then try to downgrade again to GB. As far as I try to have control over my phone I use RootAppDelete and Disable Services apps. I turned off some stuff and I was unable to run Automatic Updates (instead of Kies crap). Well, I messed it up a bit so I had to restore factory settings (all stuff backed up with Go Backup of course). After all I thought: "Why not to give a try again before upgrade?" So I did it. First, I wasn't able to saw a difference as I found out bad saturation after installing Go Launcher and all stuff to get my own icons on desktop and specific wallpaper. After I restored everything I was a little confused, but I checked few icons containing a lot of white like Gmail. It hasn't blinding red color on it and white was white not pinky! Hell Yeah! Then I shuffled through some pictures which were definitely oversaturated and they were fine.
Final conclusion: try NOT to use any RAM and battery eating apps as they never do what you expect, trust me, I tried them all. I don't know if this is universal solution, but in my case after flashing new ROM I had to restore factory settings (stock thing, not CWM or else) to get solved saturation issue.
I hope some of you will try it and mayby you can sort it out, too. Happy Trying.
Let us know if that worked for you too.
I decided not to edit previous post as it was a little too fast to say it was solved. Well, after re-flashing firmware my eyes were probably misled by black screen during flashing. So flashing ROM wasn't necessary and did nothing, to be exact.
Anyway, there is a chance to repair saturation problem with Soft Screen Tuner app. I found it somewhere around here. I gotta tell ya, it really works. This time I'm sure. Although, it doesn't work completely. I don't know it this is a software isuue or it doesn't work with SGS2. But there are four groups of changers in it, but three working: sharpness (don't care), RGB sliders ( use R-235, G-245, B-245) and Temperature (use 7000). That looks like too much of red colour is gone that way. This tool has saturation slider but it don't work for me on 2.3.6 GB

Hi All,
My HD2 just came back from repair.
I sent it in a hope that they will change my buggy screen (like lot of people, the touch function is buggy. Sometimes doesn't react, sometimes it feels a pressure while i don't press it, sometimes it works well... ).
Anyway, of course they didn't change any screen...and i just missed my HD2 for 2 weeks.
They did a Hard reset and installed all the HotFIx. Which i bet won't fix any issue that i have with the screen.
However, i do notice they installed a hotfix i never heard about yet:
LEO08787.exe
Does anyone have ever heard about it and what it does ???
send it back again and demand a replacement screen since it is a known fault with the original screens. They are just trying to get out of paying for the new screen.
regarding the hotfix nope, havent heard of it, but I dont track the hotfix versions so it may be a known one
ok lets install this and see how it goes..
hope its not a bogus file with some virus inside ...
HTC repair center SUCKS big time.
@kaemon: i also had that problems (sometimes the screen just wouldn't react to my touch) and i brought it to my reseller so they sent it to repair center and it come back untouched, they've only done the screen calibration which i have done dozen times. And it took them 16 days to do that. i'm definitely buying an iphone next time.
Unreleased hotfix
Apparently this is an (as yet) unreleased HotFix for the HD2, that is designed to correct some issues with the touchscreen. POCKETNOW.COM have tested this hotfix and found that it "drastically improved" the typing on the touchscreen, and also cured the HD2s alleged inability to draw a straight line when in Notes.
(Please note, I have not tested this yet, as I havn't suffered any such problems on my HD2, but I'm sure a quick check on their website will find you the page in question, which contains a link to the hotfix).
Pocketnow seem to think it's pretty decent. I'll give it a go.
Just installed it.. And I got to say i reckon typing maybe more accurate! not completely sure as time will tell. Installed on a Euro version about 5 months old, certainly the lines in Note are not like an ECG any more so
direct link for those who want it

IMO this is by far the best HotFix I ever installed. Typing works massively improved for me (also on the PIN-unlock-screen). I'm currently on German stock ROM.
So what do you reckon? Worth installing? Can it be uninstalled?
** Edit **
Just seen the two replies above - sounds good! I'm going to give it a try and will report back.
Tried it but didnt like it, it made my screen unresponsive and the ui jerky.
Installed after reading the Pocketnow tweet but uninstalled about 5 minutes later.
Screen became very unrespsonsive and massive slow down in scrolling.
Seems to be a 50/50 split.
Give it a try though
ROM: 1.66 WWE

definately a little less responsive to some touches, i'm just tweaking slightly with HD2tweak and see if that makes a difference....
UpDate:
I wonder if this hotfix is just changing a reg key, the same as BsB tweaks to decrease the screen sensitivity or if it is actually a driver?
Ive just changed the screen sensitivity in HD2tweak to very high and it seems to have eliminated the unresponsive touches but remains much better with typing accuracy? I would love to know what this .exe actually does within the system..maybe someone more clever than me can take it apart and see whats inside.
oh yeah running a tmous 2.13 Rom on a euro Leo if thats any help
Well I tried it....
EVen though I didn't suffer from any problems with the touchscreen on my HD2, I thought I'd give it a go, and set myself a couple of tests.
1) I used "notes.exe" and tried to draw 5 straight lines, and got five slightly curved and wavy lines.
2) I typed a message "this will test how accurate my keypad is or how bad my typing is", and had to correct three mistypes/mistakes.
I then installed the hotfix, and tried both tests again....
1) Five pretty straight lines, certainly better than before
2) typed the same message, and only one correction.
So, based on the 5 mins since I installed, it seems that this fix DOES make an improvement. I'll keep monitoring it and report back to let you know.
too bad it doesn't work for the US version

i just tried the same thing...
after the latest update from TMOUS, my typing has been terrible. swype is unstable too.
gonna flash the latest energy rom. that should help.
if we're going to be posting feedback, can i suggest that those who try it also report the manufacturing dates of their devices (if known to them)? at the very least, do report what screen type is on the device. what i am referring to is the fact that the hd2 ships with TWO kinds of screens. earlier models shipped with a screen with fewer "dots" while the newly manufactured devices ship with a screen with noticeably more "dots" (these additional brighter dots are visible on the intersections of the criss-cross "lines").
i personally have the newer model and i have no problems whatsoever. notes always draws straight lines and typing is accurate out of the box.
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
"This hotfix is not compatible with your device."
Using NRGZ28 EnergyROM.
it work very well for me
sure it's less responsive :/

Same here, might give it a little bedding in period but I'm already thinking about uninstalling it
I just installed this and it has improved the accuracy of typing on the keyboard especially at speed. I can touch type (badly) so with any qwerty keyboard i can do 100 ish words a minute. Before every other word had to be corrected but my test sentence "this is a test to see if the keyboard accuracy has been improved at speed" needed not one. Line drawing is still too accurate (that was the problem before. it is impossible for a human to draw a perfect straight line free hand) but it is better. I've also noticed in my typing test that the contact i used to test the htc messaging app load speed (contact has currently 2481 messages associated with it) was massively improved. I have no idea if this is related but this patch appears to have done something to it. I'll keep an eye on that just to see if the effect is because my phone just had it's first reboot in 8 days or not.
Done some quick further testing on the Messaging app load speed and it appears that either the way the message database is loaded has been changed (instead of loading them one by one it seems to loading them all in one big chunk) or the graphics driver has been updated (reading this i'm not sure if it's not the undefined option 3) but something is definitely different there because whether it's 2500 messages or 10 the load time is now the same and faster than before.
Something weird is defintely up with this hotfix and i bet it includes more than just a touch screen update too.
Hello guys,
after flashing batista70's ROM, I started to notice that on the default wallpaper, there was heavy color banding, as if the bit rate of the colors dropped.
For example when I use the microbes live wallpaper, the microbes are much bigger and it looks like it's zoomed in, plus the dark background, instead of having some smooth grey areas has a net separation between black and dark grey.
I've tried flashing stock ROMs back, but it didnt fix the problem.
Do you think that if I send it to samsung saying that it happened after I updated it via Kies, are they gonna fix it?

If something happened to any hardware component of your phone, they will fix it.. But only if you pay, unless you use a JIG to reset the custom binary counter...
I can't imagine why a ROM should damage your phone, you should try to flash another kernel...

Im having the exact exact same problem. Kind of dissapointing. I thought rooting and flashing roms made better. Its a small problem but an annoying and ugly one. PLEASE HELP!!!!
Funny this, I have the same problem after changing screens (so a hardware, not software, change). Did you guys find out what's causing this?

possibly display drivers issue?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1486620
That user suggested a re-flash
Any news on this issue? I just changed my cracked screen, and when I plugged the new one and turned the phone on, image was perfect, then 1 second later it went all strange, with heavy horizontal banding.
I didn´t have a chance yet to flash new FW because my S2 has a broken power flex button, I´m waiting the replacement one to arrive in the mail, but I would like to know beforehand if this may be just a software problem. If it´s hardware, I think I´m screwed.
Thanks!
Hello xda community!
So I got bored yesterday and dug out my old LG Optimus P506 to see how it'd look ICS'd. But, unfortunately, I ran into a problem. I don't know if this is just a case of unfortunate timing or the result of my doing something wrong in the install process. The problem is after the first boot screen the color depth drops to 256 colors. I've tried searching the forums, there may be a related problem but nothing turns up with reduced screen colors/depth (meaning sorry for repost if it is) any help is appreciated!

Is it something like this?
Sorry, can't tell from the image (it's too small) But the colors are in heavy green hue, large pixel clusters... dunno if it's relevant to you or not but similar to how win95/98 looked without vga drivers.

Ok.. I know what are you referring... The thing is that the p500, and p506 has different display drivers, so you need to install a kernel for the p506,,
Just one more question are you having cellular signal?
Check your PM's
Cell reception is a no-go as far as I can tell. I haven't had service on it for a few months, when I started fiddling with the rom was the first time the phone had been turned on in quite a while. I'll look into it some more later and see what I can figure out. Thanks again for the help!
Well, if you want signal, you need to flash this http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?n4qb1oqpvhkdldp
The OldBBFix is needed because your LG Thrive (P506) was never issued an update to the newer baseband (v20). Only ROMs built for the old baseband (OBB) will be able to communicate with the cellular radio. Flashing that .zip circumvents this problem. The display driver issue can indeed be fixed by flashing a kernel for your phone. Go here and spend some time poking around. Look for a kernel for the P506.
Or, you can PM _Arjen_.
Wasn't completely sure if this would be more appropriate for General or Q&A so MOD's feel free to move if necessary and I apologize.
So I'm VERY excited to go and pick mine up from Verizon tomorrow (had to wait for payday ) but was curious, how sometimes you hear "oh some of the white version of such and such phone had this issue but the black version did not." I'm pretty skeptical on the validity of such claims, but HAS anyone noticed a difference? I know some people are reporting issues like screen not being as bright/sharp, some people saying they've seen lag/stutter, and others saying they were blown away and absolutely no complaints. I know that no 2 phones will perform exactly the same but what color did everyone end up getting and have you had any issues or not? Seeing if there was any kind of pattern developing, and since I'll have a case I'm not TOO concerned about a particular color but leaning towards the black due to the the ugly white bottom bezel on the white G3.
My white one has absolutely no issues whatsoever. I mean I did see a lil sharpness issues, but I also wear glasses so it could just be human error lol
I was originally getting the black, but changed my mind once I held the white one. I have no issues or stuttering. It does heat up when downloading all my apps but it didn't get any hotter than my old Galaxy Nexus.
White and perfect. No issues at all!
Black one here, within 2 hours after first startup it randomly restarted and bootlooped after that. Since then I have restored it and didn't make it through setup, it now wont turn on at all. Convienently right after verizon closed. I hadn't even begun to put my apps on it or anything was just messing around in settings and stuff. Hope getting another at verizon isn't a problem and hopefully it has no issues .
no issues with the black one here.
Rooted a white one and black one right after each other with no issues so far. Getting great battery life and performance on both.

no issues with the black one, it is the same phone, different color cases is all. you have to remember that this is the first North American release revisions of these phones that are "official" Any tech related gadget be it a phone or a computer part will have issues when they first release.

Did you happen to enable ART runtime? After I enabled ART I had couple lockups, and it restarted like 6 times while I was doing titanium restore (not sure if backing up the apps using Dalvik and restoring them while ART is enabled is a NONO but it might be) but the lockups I had I wasn't doing a restore. I factory reset, and didn't enable ART this time, and have had no issues.

Nope did not enable art, didn't root it happened right after I switched the lock screen unlock animation to circle. I got a reboot and a green screen saying kernel crash and from there I never had it start up to where I could do anything.
I've yet to have any issues with my black version. Even have it rooted and running ART with no problems. I'm starting to think this may just be a luck of the draw type thing.

I agree, anything new being mass produced/release there will inevitably be some kinks to work out. I just wanted to see if maybe there would be an emerging pattern. Definitely didn't want to get my phone and later find out "this color case had a slight defect causing X problem." Especially since this is the first time I've gotten a phone right when it was released been trying to be as informed as possible. I appreciate the feedback everyone! It does seem to just be luck of the draw at this point (which is more or less what I was expecting), but keep em coming if you'd like! :good:

Oh I understand. Generally I wait a few months before grabbing up a device. Give everyone time to find the issues and get the manufacturers to fix them. However, last time I did that was with the S4, and it cost me the ability to unlock the bootloader. So...here I am.
My white one doesn't overheat or have much UI lag, but it scores below the GS4 in AnTuTu X and some games don't run as well as expected. Have a feeling that the SoC isn't ramping up as it should.

I'm with you on this, I wear glasses too... I do notice sharpness issues. I don't know if this is due to the IPS display or the fact that nothing is capable of 2k resolution yet.
Although I don't think it matters much what color they've decided to make the phone, anything is possible I guess. That said my White one is running great.

Black is Fine
I have a black G3. Rooted and running fine. Had problems with ART causing lockups, lag, etc. Went back to Dalvik and the phone is sweet.
Oukitel C5 Pro. Stock ROM Android 7.0. (Originally stock 6.0 which had exactly the same affect)
When I take a photo in the dark, the flash goes off twice and I get a nice image on the screen. It then goes dark/yellow'ish before going dark again with the flash switching off. The problem though is that the photo taken is the dark/yellow image. It gets SOME benefit from the flash but not enough. Why does it not save the "nice image". (It is as if the photo is not taken in time with the flash but that might be simplistic?)
Tried ALL settings, ISO, ZSD, exposure, scene, wb, etc, etc. Clear data/cache for camera app. Tried numerous other camera app. Tried pressing the screen to pre-focus. Always the same.
I still have my 4 year old Sesonn N9700 and this does not have this problem and it saves the "nice image", despite the camera app looking almost identical.
One thing that works, is to start recording a video (with the "flash" on) and then take my still shot at the same time. Bingo, one "nice image". But not always practical.
Have seen various similar posts with similar problems on different phones but not found a fix that works. (There was one phone where it would only happen depending on the charge of the battery!!)
Any ideas about this? Seems like it should be fixable, given the workaround starting the video??? Don't suppose anyone has the same device (or another Oukitel) and confirm if it happens to them too?? I'm living in hope there will be an update at some point, certainly hope so as it is the only negative at this time.
P.S. not seen any APK's for this stock camera, so not tried different versions. Not sure why but it does not seem to be a Play Store app??
Just for reference purposes, the quality of the Oukitel pictures is not quite as good as the Sesonn despite both being 5Mpixels and the Sesonn also being cheap and 4 years old! Even in good light it has a lot more graininess and processing affects, despite file sizes being bigger. Shame as I suspect it is more a software issue than hardware. The Oukitel flash is considerably less bright too which doesn't help in the dark, although it did not operate when in video mode on the Sesonn. I appreciate I'm not going to get first class images on these phones but If I could get results comparable to my old cheap Chinese phone (which actually were brilliant), I'd be very happy.
