Trying to root my Evo 4G LTE using the procedure found at htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-4g-lte-root/how-to-root-htc-evo-4g-lte-unlock-bootloadertwrp-recovery, but when I try to run "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin" I get the CMD error, "Error: cannot load Unlock_code". All the files are in the same directory, and I am running cmd as admin on Windows 7.
I have tried two different Unlock_code.bin files sent from HTC, same error. What could be wrong?
If I run "fastboot devices", I get my s/n returned, but if I run "adb devices", nothing is listed. Is HTC not sending out correct .bin files? The .bin file I get from them is only 256k in size.

Sounds like you are having driver issues If adb devices doesn't come up. Try deleting htc sync I think that gets in the way sometimes. Your drivers will stay.
Also what are you using for an OS?

Windows 7, I'll try deleting Sync.
Try using the WinDroid toolkit posted in development. It automates the process and should get you going.

Tried with the toolkit, same error messages. I'm beginning to think that either Sprint or HTC has locked the .bin files. Screen capture attached.

I don't understand why installing the sdk on my laptop would have any effect on why the phone isn't responding to simple commands...
Because the files in the SDK are what are used to communicate with the device via CMD. If they are outdated, they will not work. Actually , I need to update mine, too. Just recently, my cmd window no longer returns a s/n when running fastboot devices, or adb devices. Just stopped working. May be that I'm now on a 4.3 ROM with 3.4.63 kernel, and latest kernel requires newer SDK.
Thanks for the link bigdaddy16

Thanks! That worked.
But now when I try to use TWRP 2.1.8, I get no response to any of the button commands. I can't do anything inside TWRP, the only thing I am able to do is lock the screen. Once the screen is locked, it won't unlock, the "Slide to Unlock" doesn't respond. Let me try a later version of TWRP.
Gotta use the TWRP version 2.6.3.0!!!

You can open the command prompt from within the folder you unzipped when performing the unlock by pressing shift and right clicking
Power off your phone. Power your phone on by holding power and volume down.
Highlight 'Fastboot' the volume buttons then press power to "select".
Plug your phone into your PC and open a Command Prompt. (windows XP - Click Start > Run > type CMD in box then press OK; Windows 7 - Click Start > type CMD in search box then press Enter) Change directory to your folder where we put fastboot files by typing cd c:\fastboot for example.*
*Alternatively, you can just hold down shift and right click in the folder and select "open command window here".
Type this into your command prompt window: fastboot oem lock
at least that's how I think it works
good luck!

Make sure you have the latest HTC driver installed. Use a USB 2.0 port, make sure that HTC Sync is not installed on your computer, and that your computer antivirus is off.
You can get the latest driver in the link below. Use the HTC driver from post #2.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179776
Also, it may take a few attempts before Moonshine is successful. On the phone I recently Moonshined, it took a few tries before it succeeded, and I had everything set up correctly.

All HTC drivers were removed and the new ones were reinstalled. Computer and phone rebooted, USB 2.0 port, etc... I even went to another PC and ran into the same problems. I'll try it some more since you said it took a few tries.
Edit: Now it won't establish a connection to complete the first step in fastboot even though the PC keeps making sounds when fastboot USB gets turned on

You have to use a live CD with Dirty Racun if you are running Windows. To answer your second question, no, you can't use terminal emulator on your phone, either. Please be careful with what you're doing, otherwise you risk having an expensive paperweight in your hand. Personally I would have gone the Moonshine route It's Windows friendly and you don't have to fool with any commands, other then checking device connection with ADB & fastboot.

Yeah I know. I'm being really careful with everything - reading up before I do ANYTHING. I've done this to several phones before, but never had this much trouble...
Do you know if it's possible to still use Moonshine at this point? I've gone through every single step for DirtyRacun except for #14 which is to run RabiesShot. I have the RUU for 3.15 HBOOT 2.09 installed and running fine right now. If I can use Moonshine (and actually get it to connect to the device now), I would rather do that.

Make sure you're doing a full system wipe in recovery prior to flashing the ROM. You also might want to try opening a command prompt in your ADB tools folder while in the bootloader and type the command "fastboot erase cache" (minus quotation marks) and hit enter. Make sure you're connected via fastboot USB first.

I've been struggling with ADB for the past week or so, and have been unable to see my HTC One X+ no matter what I've tried. Then I decided to install Ubuntu using VirtualBox and voila, It can see my device using the same computer with no problem. I ran an ADB restart just to make sure and it worked. Can anyone tell me why this is and hopefully tell me how to fix it?
This all started when I tried to run an RUU and it couldn't find my phone. RUU's don't run on Linux, so this doesn't solve my problem, just seems to point at Win7 being the issue.
P.S. I've had 5 Android devices, all 5 have successfully connected with ADB on this same computer in the past. I've installed custom ROMs on all of them and have used ADB quite a bit over the past few years. I'm not sure what changed in the past year since I last used ADB that now causes it to not see my device.
Just noticed that I can see the phone in the bootloader using "fastboot devices"... even more confused now!
Well you only need fastboot for an ruu so your good there, maybe you need to setup a path in environmental variables for adb or uninstall and reinstall drivers

The path is already there, the commands work, just no device to send them to. Already tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and the Android SDK.
Not sure how I can use fastboot for the RUU though... I've tried running it from the Windows desktop and it can't find the device. I did try running it while in the bootloader and it starts the process but always fails within about 3 minutes with an Unknown Error.
The only way you can flash an ruu is through fastboot
Also remember fastboot only works in bootloader and adb only works in os and recovery
Maybe post the entire input/output from cmd/terminal here when you run the ruu

The RUU file I downloaded from HTC is an EXE file. How do you run that in fastboot?
I know that ADB doesn't work in the bootloader, but on my computer it isn't working in Recovery or in the OS.
Still best guess is wrong drivers but at this point it really doesn't matter as you can only use fastboot anyhow
The .exe is supposed to walk you through the steps, what happens when you click on it?
Can you extract the contents and do it manually?
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip nameofupdate.zip
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
When I run the RUU file in Windows it tries and fails to connect to the phone. I will do some research on extracting the necessary files from the RUU and manually flashing. Thanks for the help.
Finally fixed using these steps!
Cannot get adb to recognize that my phone is "Online" also, troubles with RUU.
I'm on 4.3 on my HTC One with Sense 5.0 and I haven't been able to send any commands using Hasoon 2000's toolkit to my phone. Whenever I try to, I get an error message in the command prompt window saying that my device is offline, But if I run the adb devices command in a separate command prompt window, I get my attached One with it's ID number and everything.
This is where it gets weird, I restored my phone using clockworkmod to an earlier point in time while it was still unlocked, but not rooted. Somehow I managed to get clockworkmod back on and tried flashing the SU binaries so I can gain root access again, but I get the error message in the command prompt window when I try to do any commands from the toolkit.
So I say no problem, I'll flash the RUU so I can go back to stock, out of the box and re unlock and reroot, I don't mind. I download the file, and start the process and my phone changes it's screen to just HTC in the middle of it, but like 15 minutes in, I encounter an error
ERROR [155]: Unknown Error
The Rom Update utility cannout update your android phone.
It's saying that it's the wrong recovery image for the T-Mobile HTC One, but I'm fairly certain it's not.
Can someone give me a RUU for 4.1.2 Stock?
Also do I have to relock the bootloader before doing so?
SO TO RECAP, MY QUESTIONS ARE;
How do I fix the "device offline" error for the toolkit/adb?
Can someone give me a RUU for 4.1.2 Stock?
Also do I have to relock the bootloader before flashing a RUU?

Refer to my sig for that one. (If for any reason that does not work, search Google for "T-Mobile HTC One 531.8 Downgrade RUU", should be the first link)
Note: You *must* be S-Off. Use Win7 (or rather, do not use Win8x). Plug the device into a different USB port, wait for driver install/etc, and be sure to check the box (always allow) on the ADB popup on your device when it asks the first time you send an adb command to it from the PC.
Hope that helps.:good:
Google "squabbi's HTC One Toolkit" as well. I have used that one several times successfully.
Hello all, I've just recently recovered my DNA back to stock from a botched ROM install on the 3.06 software. Prior to running the RUU, I used Rumrunner to unlock my bootloader to put CWM on as my recovery. Then I had to re-lock it to run the RUU. Now I'm stuck at re-unlocking it. The HTCdev site is giving me a MID not allowed error and I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact that I used Rumrunner? Call me stupid, the DNA is still relatively new to me. Thank you!!
You shouldn't need to relock it to RUU. The RUU will overwrite your recovery with stock but the bootloader should remain unlocked (and s-off if you did that as well). At this point you should be able to just run rumrunner again to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash a custom recovery and go from there.

Tried doing Rumrunner again, Getting this error, "ERROR: run rumrunner again and READ (no adb connection to device. Debugging on?

Edit: Nevermind, tried a different cable. Hate it when that happens.
Edit 2: Rumrunner must have failed, device still relocked.

ADB Devices is a command issued from the command prompt. It should return the S/N of the device connected. If there is no response the drivers are not installed on the PC. If you are using Win 8 or 8.1 you will have issues

Hı, have you find out a solution to this one ?
I am struggling with a similar situation:

I did, sorry for not posting it here. I went and got a new cable from tiger direct and tried again. For some reason, the bootloader still says relocked but I have root access. I don't feel confident enough to try and see if CWM or TWRP and I don't want to go through the RUU garbage again. Shoot me a PM and I'll tell you everything what not to do. LOL

I have heard if you flash a new hboot the relocked text will go away, but I haven't had this issue myself so I can't personally confirm it. I do recommend updating your hboot and radio, though, for other reasons like better radio signal.

Updating the hboot and radio seems a little daunting. Definitely something I want to look in to once I can figure out how to get a ROM on this without calling a mulligan and starting from scratch again.

Adb is universal to all android devices, I highly recommend getting used to it if you plan on rooting future devices, the only thing native to HTC is the S-OFF portion of eMMC

Are you S-OFF? If so issue this command in fastboot:
fastboot oem writecid 22222222
Go to htcdev.com and then it will allow you to unlock the bootloader also make sure you have 8 2's in the command.
