Back a few years in the early days of android. There once was an app called "launcher pro". For anyone that's been around for some time this app will sound very familiar.
I still remember when I first discovered it and the excitement that came whenever I noticed there was an update for it. With each update the launcher became more and more my favorite. So much so, it had become my standard to compare to. Whenever I tried out another launcher I immediately noticed the difference. Nothing else seemed to compare to the responsiveness and overall smoothness of LP. I would always return to LP because the others seemed to pale in comparison to its glory.
It became one of the first apps I installed anytime I got a new phone. To me it had became synonymous with android and its capabilities. I ended up using it as my daily driver for the next couple of years to come.
Unfortunately Ice Cream Sandwich killed compatibility with LP and so ended my long time relationship with one of the best apps I've ever used To this day I still ponder on the incredible potential exhibited through this app by the mind of an amazing developer.
Federico Carnales is/was a staple for the android community and an example what determination and effort can produce. He's been frighteningly absent from the android world for roughly a year and a half now with his applications on the play store even today. However there they lay unsupported and unfit to install in newer versions of android.
So what happened? Where did he go? I recall a letter written to him because many other like minded individuals began scouring the net in fear of his death. I personally gave up searching the net for an answer for his apparent silence.
So am I the only to remember the good ol days of launcher pro? What was your experience with this app?
Does anyone know of his whereabouts?

I'm not sure but I think this should have been placed in the general section. It was meant for more of a general topic than a question. I appreciate your help in moving this to general. Thank you

Try posting in General next time... lol
Ha ha, thanks for the tip.
Why is the right door always locked?
Anyone know? Hope he is ok.
any news?
Word. As an early android user myself Launcher Pro was a beacon of hope for functional, efficient and beautiful app seekers like me. I still remember the impending launch of the social stream widget that would show a combined stream of all my social networks. I could be wrong but I think at the time the only other widget with such a capability was provided by stock launchers. HTC sense if my memory serves me right.
I lost little time in deciding to buy the pro version on what was a launcher that absolutely had no competition for the features I was looking for. I recall even then Frederico would take his time in implementing new features. That was cool because Frederico was connecting to my needs.
I came upon this post when I happened to search for Frederico after chancing upon LP on the play store and being reminded of my early experiences with Android. I too was intrigued to notice that the app hasn't been updated in years.
Wonder what happened to the developer.
It's nothing uncommon for developers just to stop and walk away. It happens everyday. Mainly with Android developers.
I've been using LP since the first Galaxy S phone came out. Was using it until the other day on a Galaxy S5 with Android L. Wanted to try it on the Pocophone now but it's not on Google Play anymore. Awesome piece of work ...
Yeah... i just wanted to re-download it myself a couple days ago and noticed it was missing... i took the time to chat with Google play help, and this is what they gave me in answer, after checking with the Google play team...

Same here. It really shows what a great app it was if there are this many strangers reminiscing about it over the years. I found similar posts/pages via a Google search of others that have wondered as well.

First of all: this site seems to continue to attract new cool people, and I'm greatly enjoying the easy way we all seem to work together.
The whole site got 20-30% busier relative to a week ago. We're averaging well over 1000 visits a day now. These are probably mostly new people lured by the prospect of the Special Edition ROM and its ability to unlock without the serial cable.
Communities like ours feed on fresh blood and new ideas. So let's all try to be extra nice and tolerant these next few days and weeks. Some growing pains are probably inevitable, but think how some of these new folks are likely to bring interesting knowledge and experience. (Even if most of the others just bring newbie questions you've all seen a million times.)

A big thanks for the hard work on the site guys, a great resource. Starting to feel a bit more comfortable with my XDA now
Yeah! you guys did a great job! and most of all I like the fact that you are not trying to commercialize this. Respect...
i just joined up because this community reminds me of another kick-ass community that I also joineded: The Tivo Community. This forum has the same passions, feel and excitement. I love that I have found a place to hang out that is ACTIVE and chock full of great information.

LOL as much as I doubt they would.... if these very kind people did try to "commercialize this" they'd find a lawsuit in the post by HTC, O2, T-mobile and just about every telecoms company that supports the HTC-wallaby device...
Even if O2 cant support its own userbase...
Personally I think its a shame that the O2 official support had to be done as an april fools joke. By far this would have been the best move that the non computer literate O2 could have done.
Unfortunatly maybe it would mean this site becoming too busy and overwhelming the developers?
Ian.

Hi guys,
Just wanted to leave a quick thank you for the work you're doing. I've been able to do some great things with my device due to this site and the great community that's developed here.
I live in Australia and the XDA is pretty expensive over here so I bought a T-Mobile unit from the US. You guys made it possible for me to get the thing unlocked and online as soon as it was in my hot little hands
Many thanks.
Great work guys,
i cant comment on excellence!
Keep it up and whatever you need from us as support we will do it.
Regards

Remember I posted the webstats halfway through June? It got even busier since:
To put that in perspective: look at the monthly totals:
I'm glad our community still functions as well as it does, given this insane growth.
You're all fantastic...
Exponential growth continues...
As you can see above, the site used to do 1 GB a day on really busy days in June. We did 2 and 1.8 GB on 1st and 2nd of July respectively. About 2/3 of that seems to be forum traffic, and we get 1600+ visits a day now.
Whoa Mozilla labs has plans to build their own OS based on android. Its just a concept right now but its crazy to see how far technology could go. The original article was on gizmodo but I thought id share since were all bored and arguing around here anyways. I looked for this before I posted it and couldn't find anything similar in the 3D section.
Here's the video.

That video has been around for a while but the news about them building an OS using Android is new. Sounds like a UI on top of Android to me though.

Ahhh yeah does sound like a custom UI sort of like sense but the article said they arent adopting java; could be interesting. I know im late i barely found that video lol.
If that thing was ever built, it'd be the most expensive smartphone that has ever existed, haha.
Can't imagine the battery life on that thing.
I saw that about a year ago and I don't think we are much closer to it being realistic. It looks amazing but I think we are years away from anything close to that.

Although they don't have the same sensor technology for typing and stuff, you have been able to order phones with built in PICO projectors from overseas forever. I own a Pico projector seperately and it is awesome. Not much bigger than the 3VO. Well, like 3 times thicker, but can fit in your pocket.
Again, they've been making them for years overseas, so why the have to pretend being able to project your phones screen on to the wall is some future concept is silly. I know it has a lot more features than that, so it is a concept phone. But I just think it's interesting that projector part has such a wow factor when they are made everyday.
This is from CES 2009. A Samsung phone for Korea:

In fact, it's an excellent question! Having just bought a Touchpad, I've only just begun to play with WebOS, but already I love it, I'm really hoping they continue to develop the platform!

That's what I thought. Which makes this thread a bit pointless IMHO.....
Nope, actually- they are continuing with WebOS. The Touchpad is still in it's infancy, it came out weeks ago.

And you have proof of this?
being a dedicated user has nothing to do with HP canning the whole webOS platform. I think we are in this on our own.
Guys, HP are not discontinuing WebOS software, only the hardware. for example:
http://www.mobiledia.com/news/109675.html . And just a little google of HP Touchpad, switch to google news and filter the last few days and you'll be able to read plenty if you want to update your facts. Of course we havent heared a comprehensive strategy being put in place, only that they are looking into licensing models for WebOS and are to continue to develop and optimise the os.
Of course this is just a wishlist, and I have a few myself, though most can be solved with better apps in the market so i'm not going to go into them.
I would like to see better use of of cards, enabling them as wigets as well as just a minimised view of the app would be a good start. With views showing updated information from facebook/news apps etc when in card view. But I'm torn between the bliss simplicity of card view and the functionallity but sometimes overwhelming mess we get from my wigetised home screens in android.
WebOS is not dead yet, after keeping my ear to the ground, HP plans to release 3.0.4 soon (no eta) which the most notable feature is HDMI from micro usb over MHL adapter...its apparently still in testing phase but it supposed to drop before the end of the year.
ill look for the source, but either way, its not completely dead, the app catalog is still updated weekly as well
but it is dying HP is recognizing the hardware and marketing for palm devices as a complete failure, and will resume focus on the PC market, all but abandoning the mobile niche market.
There's no reason to give up a great platform. I don't know why people are so depressed.
Leo Apetheker might have been as crazy but I've been a fan of the Touchpad since Day 1.
No matter what they do to it, I don't see it ending anytime soon.
in reality HP have said they will continue support so that it looks like a viable proposition to purchase.
I believe 3.04 has already been seen in the wild, 3.03 certainly has. I think that we will all be glad of the android port sooner than we would like.
please prove me wrong HP
I'm sure they've got some wild monkeys running their company, they talk of cancelling, discontinuing...and yet, they want to sell it?
They're trying to sell something that they've lowered the value of.
Thread closed as there is no real basis for this topic.

HTC M9 disassembled
My 2 day experience so far
Well, I'm in day two on my Sprint M9. I have not been an HTC customer since the very original EVO so I am seeing this device through a different set of eyes than some. My two phones before this were the LG G2 and the Nexus 5.
First the good. This thing is amazingly smooth. It does not feel like I am even making it break to sweat when I use it. I've seen no lag of any kind. I decided not to restore from a previous phone configuration so I set it up from scratch which included downloading many apps and opening them and setting them up. I was doing all of this simultaneously with many apps downloading in the background while I open and setup apps that had finished installing. The phone never missed a beat. It got a little warm but nothing the caused me concern.
Yesterday I used it in the car for a 6 hour round trip drive which included running Google Maps while listening to Pocket Casts. This combination would tax both of my to previous phones. On this device I noticed no ill effects from running both of those apps simultaneously for hours.
I've not really ever experienced what modern day Sense is but I like it. I don't find it intrusive or bloated. I do not like how much padding exists around apps and widgets on the screen. I feel like they could have fit in another row if there was a way to reduce the padding.
The out of the box experience was horrible. It involved two resets from recovery to get to this point. After activating it online, when it was first turn on it performing android update which updated all of the apps. The phone activated and worked properly however it would not sign in to my Google account no matter what I tried including completely removing the Google account and adding it back in. That was the first reset from recovery.
As I began setting it up I noticed the WiFi Calling setting so I went into that menu. It began a profile update at that point and during that process completely disconnected from the Sprint network and my connectivity was dead at that point. WiFi calling did not show as active and I turned off wifi completely but I had no connectivity to the Sprint network at all. A reboot and manual profile update was not successful. I reset network services using the ## code. Still nothing. That was reset from recovery #2.
After that everything setup successfully and the phone is operating without any problems. If I do I reboot I still get a message everytime the android is updating but it does not go through the process of updating any apps. It is just a brief message and the reboot continues as normal.
Yesterday afternoon there was a large amount of updates to HTC apps in the Play Store. I assume that this was HTC making those apps available to the M9 for the first time. That is a great sign since we will be able to get updates without firmware updates. Curiously one app was called HTC Service Pack. Perhaps that is old news for HTC regulars.
@jkcarp94
Please keep the reviews in one place:good:
Well I've had this M9 for several hours now and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but I'm really not seeing much of a difference from the modified m8 I upgraded from. I'm obviously gonna give it more time, but for the price so far it's really not looking like it's worth it. I might end up taking advantage of sprint's 14 day return policy.
Thanks Cam

Didn't intend to double post, for some buggy reason, the XDA website kept giving me a "This Website is Not Available" error message the first 5 times I tried creating the thread. Went into my account stat details after first 5 attempts and didn't see anything new. 6th attempt it finally worked and then all the other 5 showed up.
Either way, XDA really should give an option to delete threads you created, especially for this reason. Not sure why such a basic function is missing in this forum.
I sold JRummy Apps in 2017 to Maple Media. I highly doubt they are doing anything fishy here, but they did add tons of ad SDKs. I hate what they have done with the apps and sadly I wish I never sold to them. I don't recommend using any apps published under JRummy Apps, not because I think they are doing anything malicious, but I think they're business practices are abhorrent. They don't care about the end-user. This is why we should always try to support (financially) indie-app developers and OSS, they have the user's interest in mind whereas companies like Maple Media could care less about you.

Maple media guys approached me as well to buy my App portfolio, thankfully at that time, i got connected with @jrummy16 and he advised me against selling to them. Probably the best decision i ever made.
I can personally vouch for @jrummy16, he is one of the most trustworthy app developers i know. However I can't say the same for Maple media whose only aim is to make money of off end user. I would rather have my small tribe of users than sell my apps to a money hungry conglomerate. I am hoping jrummy16 can come back to the app scene. Jared and koush are among the highest quality indie developers out there.
