Aluminum Bumper that does not screw together - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

This Aluminum bumper on eBay looks really nice and does not appear to have to be screwed together like most others. That makes it much easier to get to your SIM or SD card or pull the battery if you need to. The one I had for my note 2 looked like this but it screwed on and you didn't want to get stuck with a phone freeze and no screwdriver to remove the bumper lol

I absolutely love the way that bumper looks. But I'm always scared of what it will do to the signal levels. I once got an aluminum bumper for my iPhone 5 and it reduced the signal level by at least one bar.
Has anyone put one of these or similar on their Note 3? If so what effect did it have on the signal levels?

I wouldn't recommend, I had one of these bumper on S3, and I lost a bar signal, plus it looks okie, but holding it, it does not feel right.

signal problem
I had used aluminium bumper on my S4 and there was a signaling problem in that...no doubt the case is nice but this signal problem irritates a lot...sometimes it even hampers the wifi connections too....so its not a good experience with aluminium bumper so wont be going to take any risk with my N3....

I just got the ultra thin screw together bumper.
First thing I noticed is my SiriusXM radio cutting out.
I already live in a weak signal area, but the audiostream would never cut out.
With the bumper on it dropped out multiple times due to signal.
Its it a nice unit, but like op said you have to carry a screwdriver around if you need to take off the back cover as well.
$21 bucks down the drain. Should of known better.

I have this exact bumper, and I haven't noticed any major signal loss, not even a bar. The only thing I dont like about it is that it makes it slightly awkward using the phone with one hand.

Same product half price ($10)

Mine arrived today and they have changed it design with 2 holes on bottom right (which doesnt line up with the mic)
WiFi and phone signal so far unaffected.

It looks like it'll make it really hard to use any other microUSB 3.0 cables. Samsung's seems to be the smallest available and it looks like they designed it to fit that. The only reason the Amazon Basics Premium microUSB 3.0 cable I have works with my other cases is because they all have flexible materials around the connector/port.

I had to trim my Amazon 3.0 cable end with a razor to get it to fit... With any case I had.

I believe those are screws on the side

I have an aluminum case for my Note 3. From experience I always stay away from non-screw cases because slide cases WILL scrape away the plastic of the case sooner or later.

SZLF Bumper Case

Has anyone tried one of these SZLF Aluminum Bumper cases for the AT&T Note? It appears this is only for the International version but I am not aware of any differences in the size of the phone so it may work for both. All of the listings I have found for this on eBay only mention i9220 and N7000 though.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Luxury-...374880?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item4163fca0e0
Also, if you have tried this, does the case cover the edges of the screen (further protecting a screen protector)? I like the look of this one as well as the Anymode Bumper but the Anymode looks really big.

It'll fit the AT&T/Canadian Note.
I recommend u get the following one. It's well worth the money.

Sweet armor is nice and all, but the fake is 1/4 the price, so it would win my vote. The review showed that the original is better made, but I just don't think it's that much better depending on how biased the review is.
I got the sweet armor (fake version, same as szlf) and ended up not using it. Here's why:
1. Makes phone more slippery and heavy
2. Scratches screen protector when taking on and off (and you must take it off to access battery)
3. Not very ergonomic

They look cool, some people like them, I just don't see the point since I agree with primarily your first point. The other day I was laying in my recliner with my 2 year old beside me and we were looking at a zoo app of animals while holding my phone above us. It slipped and I cracked my poor baby girl in the face with my phone. Since then I keep the silicon jacket on it untill my Seidio comes in the mail.
Can't stand the "SZLF" logo all over it...
Stay away from Aluminum Bumpers
My buddy and I both have Notes. We were just troubleshooting (Like 15 muintes ago) network connectivity problems he has been experiencing here at work the last few days. The connection would drop or stay at 4G, and rarely hit LTE. What we discovered was it was the aluminum bumper he installed around the same time the problems started. It drastically reduce his signal quality. Stay far away from these.
Thanks everyone for all the feedback. Based on the issues with potentially scratching the screen protector putting this bumper on and the poor signal strength I am just going to keep looking for something else. I like the BoxWave TPU case I have now but it does not cover the edge of the screen/SP so every once in awhile I notice it pushing up against the SP causing the SP to move slightly.

I am not sure, but it also looks like the battery cover for the N7000 is different than the one on the I717. Noticed on this SZLF case, the bottom back portion would block the I717 cover.

Magnetic car mount QI charging

One thing i really found super convenient was the magnetic QI charger i had in both my car and my boat with the nexus 5.
just slap that phone on there, and it would stay put and charge at the same time..
have anybody found a way to get similar QI charging and mount for the G3? after the nexus 5 I cant live without wireless charging.
I have some neodynem magnets laying around, but i dont think the G3 would be secure enough like the nexus 5 was, maybe it would be possible to modify the rear cover with some metal plates or similar?..

Unfortunately, they are all non-magnetic.
This one has magnetic options for the devices that do not have a smooth back. I expect it to influence a market full of cheaper copies soon.

I wish the mount's usb input were at the base, or at least on the back of the holder. That would make the cable stand out less. I feel like it should be in the base for that kind of money.
Edit: This one is slightly cheaper and has a lot more features. It hasn't been released yet but might be by the time people in the US get their phones.
Edit 2: Never mind, it doesn't look like that one is going to launch. Idk why some things like the NFC feature haven't been used by another company - it can't be that difficult or expensive.

Its a pity it failed to meet it's kickstarter goal. he was looking for $150k though, sounds a lot for a kickstarter of that scale.
Meanwhile, I ordered one of these. I use a non QI version now and I like it, it's discrete, and doesn't really look like a mount with nothing attached. Looks like a lot of manufacturers are going for these 'microsuction' materials. Less problems than magnets.
I have no problem using this one with my Nexus 5 for a long time.

The G3 though, I can't find good Hot Zone for charging.
Will try again on this weekend's drive.

It seems even the official charger WCD-100 still show the annoying Hot Zone message even if the phone is well placed.
Seems like i have to rid of it with G3 Tweak....

I think part of his failure may have been too many initial features with too high a cost. The LEDs with a sensor could have been dropped. I can even see that going wrong in a car where if you don't bother to put your phone there, reaching over to the radio or the person beside you would make it light up. Also color choices must raise the cost some but just black for the start up would have been fine.
What's wrong with magnets? I always figured the suction ones might have trouble if cold, etc. I've got the InfiniApps mount and it works well, just doesn't have wireless charging. But my Note 2 is flat on the back, and the back cover is removable unlike a lot of phones these days. Not sure if the metal ones even are a metal that magnets attract.

I prototyped one for my old Note 3, and to get enough magnetic force to hold it in place, the compass/magnometer were useless and it completely screwed up useage of the sPen.
I fitted 4 12mm dia x 0.3mm thick disc magnets in the back cover to correlate with 4 countersunk magnets fixed around the perimeter of the round QI charger. this allowed me to mount it vertically and horizontally. it worked great apart from the above exceptions, and was completely hidden on the phone.
The microsuction one I have has more trouble when warm than cold, and only then when it has gained a bit of pocket fluff. Works great if you clean it regularly.

You had to put magnets in the phone? I only had to put in the thin piece of metal that InfiniApps provided for mine. I can mount it both portrait and landscape and it sticks right away. Do you have a cover on yours? Maybe it's just the type of backing it had.
The G3 may have problems with the magnet types due to it's curved back though.

No cover or case. I didn't want any visible external signs so the magnets were fixed inside the original battery cover. a metal plate didn't work as there is not enough force to overcome the distance without increasing the size of the magnets around the charger. Having a magnet to magnet contact always feels better when it locates.
the back of the G3 is less curved than it looks: the middle third is almost flat. The QI coil appears to take up most of it though.
If the manufacturers could standardise(Yeah, I know) and put a ferromagnetic rail down either side of a device, it would be easy. The two rails could even be used as power rails, doing away with the need for wireless power transfer completely.
Was thinking about a metal plate inside the battery cover. But really thin magnets might be better. Would love to see someone give this a go.

Verus Iron Shield case

Does anyone have this case for their G3? If so how do you like it? This is the case I am talking about. I want to get it but hesitant because I want something thin and I like the aluminum frame. If someone does have it and does not want it LMK and ill buy it or trade for a brand new otterbox defender case. :good:
I'm curious about this case as well seems this company mimicks spigen (Thor=slim armor, iron shield =neo hybrid) but their cases appear to be high quality since spigen doesn't make a neo hybrid for the g3 I'm really debating on getting this case

Verus
I had the Spigen Slim Armor case Black. It was a nice fit and very low profile. It also had an extra hold on the plastic so Im not sure if it is truly for G3. I sent it back and got the Verus. This case is very similar to the Spigen and has a perfect fit. It is slim and has a thin metal frame around it. Making it look very nice. I would say these are the best two cases out there and I would say the Verus is number one. The metal frame makes it standout.
I would send a few pic. here.
I've got the Versus satin case. I had to run some sandpaper along the cutout edges to knock down the sharp edges (top) and bottom, but nice case and not slippery like the one I picked up at Verizon.
It takes a bit to remove it tho so not for the person who likes to swap batteries.

The hole is for the Korean variant of the G3. Spigen made the decision to make all of their cases "universal", so they all have the hole. That why I went with Verus and got the Thor. The Thor is nice, but it also adds significant bulk and weight. I've ordered another case to try out.
I have spigen slim armour with no hole. You need to buy the us version of the case
When I was talking to the VZ rep that was helping us when we were getting the LG G3, he showed me his Spigen case that is similar to the Iron Shield. He loved it but the "metal" frame around the headphone and charging port kept cracking. For something that is metal, it breaks easily.

I bought this case at first I like it but I noticed with the case on my signal dropped down to 1 bar from 5 bars and my download speed went from 15 Mbps download speed to less than 1 Mbps it took me about a week to figure this out as to who would think that the case would block the signal but it does I spent countless hours on the phone with Verizon trying to figure out what was going on then just by chance when I was switching the dim cards back and fourth from my g2 to my g3 to see if it may be the phone I noticed that my signal was fine until I put the car back on so don't buy this case hopefully this will help anyone thinking of buying this case

Yeah I was going to get this before unread the same thing in a few reviews. Battery killer.
I have the exact same case that you link to, OP. It has already survived a fall with just a little ding on the metal band around the case. I haven't noticed any drop in signal or battery life while using this case.
I got this case yesterday and have to say that I don't like it at all. As others have said, the metal is sharp in places and the signal does drop. I went from getting 4G in my home to 3G after putting the case on. Once I took it off, it went back to 4G. If anyone wants to buy one for cheap, let me know.
I just received the verus iron shield the other day too and I love the look and feel.
On this thread, I believe, and elsewhere I read some people were seeing some signal degradation due to the metal frame.
This made me sensitive to this and I've been trying to see if that's the case. I was testing two nights ago in my basement and it appeared that I was getting one less bar of signal. I was pretty tired and bleary eyed so I need to try this again hopefully this weekend.
I was wondering if you or someone else has checked this out.
The case is beautiful and gives above average protection, which is more than enough for me, but if the signal is being affected that would be a dealbreaker.
On another note, I have the supcase frost/clear back case and I love that too. It's thin, light and looks terrific. It offers no better than average protection but that's ok with me too.
These 2 cases give me everything that I personally look for in phone cases.
Thanks in advance
Edit:
Been testing and the iron shield definitely degrades signal for me. I'll be returning it to amazon

Just for information...to all the people with my same experience, have you got the model with the antenna cut or the plain one?

No dust covers and silly Transformers reliefs on the back that will interfere with an Aidock (and even with putting a magnetic sticker there for the airdock to adhere).
Nope : I'll pass.

The airdock is a wireless charging dock (essentially, for cars) : you lay your phone on a micro suction foam (below which is the QI coil), and it adheres to it. If your phone case is a bit rugous, the foam will not work as well, but you can just use a smooth magnetic adhesive (supplied with the dock) which'll work fine....
... provided you can lay it flat on the rear face of your case. And with such shapes on Urban Armor Gears cases, it will be a problem...

Yeah, but we don't know yet wether there'll be enough metal in the right place inside the Nexus 6, so to do without a magnetic sticker ; and said sticker won't do with the back of such a case as the Urban Armor Gear one.
The Airdock also has a suction foam which makes magnets redundant (or at least, adhere better, which is always good in the car), but it requires glossy and (rather) flat plastic at the back of the case, which is another problem with this one...
Well... we'll see what comes out as accessories. I now hope Otterbox indeed really is considering a case, as neither Trident nor Ballistic seem interested, and as Spigen won't do a case with dust covers. So a Commuter is among my last hopes, so I can buy the Nexus 6... If I can't have a somewhat rugged case (without going to the last extremities), I'll have to pass on this phone, even though I'd really like to get it.
Was always interested in UAG cases. Will probably cop one for times when I'm doing an activity that may require a heavier duty case for extra safety measures.

Thanks for linking it. I never had a UAG case before so I couldn't tell you. 40 bucks is quite steep for what amounts to a piece of plastic in my opinion. I'm thinking more of a flipcase or something with a kickstand since the phone is so large. The fact that the volume and power buttons are on the same side would suggest that they intend for it to be more of a media consumption device as well.

Seems like it might be awkward.

Hope they come in more colors. Never really liked the "crystal" version.

My Seidio CONVERT Case for the Nexus 4 was $50 when it was released and to this day I never had any damage happen to my phone (hell even the glass back has not been damaged at all if you can believe it!).
Fact is that when you are paying up a premium, you are paying for top notch protection. My Nexus 4 never was graced with the attention of Otterbox or UAG (hell I wish it was) but considering the attention and love the Nexus 6 is getting from Case Manufactures it is good luck for all of us on the options out there for us now!
I personally cannot wait for this case. I just hope they get it out there soon!
I'd like to see one in that olive green color they make.

My problem with the UAG for my S4 was that the high lip on the front, even with a tempered glass screen protector, interfered with swiping from the side gesture for opening the navigation drawer. The N6 is supposed to have a nice edge on the side, and I am afraid of ruining it.
For those of you wanting other colors: I just e-mailed their support and asked if they had any plans for different styles/colors. The response was a negative
Shame really, the Scout style looks really nice.

Aftermarket Battery Door?

Tried searching here but to no avail. Anyone know where I can get custom battery covers for the Note 3? Cost is not too much of an issue but I've been looking for a custom battery cover for my Note 3 as I'm getting really bored of the default faux leather back. If anyone has any ideas where to look please let me know?
Google hasn't really helped much either.
I too would like to know, as some days I want to see my phone w/out my bulky otterbox case on it....BUT....I'm too smart to know that I'll soon drop it due to the slipperiness of this phone!!!!

Unfortunately there aren't many good custom back covers out there... most have either worse (more slippery) grip, or metal ones that degrade signal reception.
I definitely don't want it in metal, but for the slippery grip, it's not an issue. I'll be using a transparent cover over it anyway!
I saw some on amazon, but they are in pastel colors. just type in Anley note 3
I'd be happy with just a battery cover that eliminated the raised part around the camera. Not sure why they thought the phone resting on that all the time was going to be a good idea. I'm so afraid of scratching it up. I tried a case for a while, which worked great. But the bulk got to me after a while and I removed the case.
Dunno about you but the case I used added more space between the camera and the table top. but was still pretty slim....

I use the wireless charging back cover from Samsung and it is raised over the camera. It adds a bit of weight but I feel like that's how the phone should be and it has a nice leather feel
Cover
The charging cover looks really interesting. Wonder what the battery life is on a wireless charge.
I decided to try one of these from amazon. It's called Bubbleback, lot of different colors. Fits very good, the texture is leather look only, not actual faux leather like original back. It's plastic so it's a bit slippery. I have a clear case so no biggy.
Might consider buying one of those for the next world cup... XD
Samsung actually sells about 20 different coloured backdoors for the Note 3, ranging from metallic look to smooth plastic to matte pastel. Most official Samsung stores (not sales points, the actual Samsung stores. There's one in The Hague, for example) sell them.

I'm selling Samsung Original Wireless charging S Charger Cover for Note 3 . Color black. It is practically unused - I just like the feel of the original cover better. $20 + shipping. PM me if you are interested.
