I am super frustrated right now, because of the fact I rooted my phone a year after I got it and there aren't enough devs supporting this phone anymore.. :crying:
Anywhoo, I have Unlocked my BootLoader and I have set up my custom recovery with TWRP 2.5.0.0 since the latest doesn't work for my phone. I have Access with SuperSU going through the pain of updating the binary. Now, my latest problem and only problem that hinders me from using the Roms I desire is, I'm stuck at BootLoop. My phone shows the HTC logo and then reboots.
I super wiped, I did wipe before and after, I tried all methods of wiping, unless wiping isn't the same anymore from the OG EVO days.
The ROMS, I would like to install is Paranoid Android, BeanStalk, CM Nightlies 10.2, & SuperNEXUS.
I have Tested only BeanStalk and SuperNexus and they both do the same exact thing which brings me to bootloop. The great thing about it is, which is kind of strange but i'm very thankful is that, I can still Restore my phone with my back up! =D
So far I have used TWRP, I don't really feel comfy with using Clockwork. Due to previous experiences, It just doesn't give a clean wipe IMO.
YES, I have S-ON.
Do i really need S-OFF to run these Roms? My phone is updated with 3.17, and everything from the last update a week ago, I believe.
I just did everything within the last 24 hrs.
PLEASE HELP ME! =(
Since you are S-ON you need to fastboot flash the boot.img/kernel then the rom

Okay, one more question kind sir.
If this works for my phone and I end up running the Beanstalk or which ever ROM.
Do I need to Run another Boot.img to Restore my Rom from Backup?
Or Will it back up on its on, Because its the Stock rom?
Thank you, again.

It's always a good idea to have at least one backup on your sdcard.
No you won't need to flash the boot.img if you restore your backup.
You will only need to flash the boot.img everytime you flash a new rom for the first time

Fastboot flash the boot.img from bootloader or use FlashimageGUI from the playstore then boot into recovery and flash the rom

I know I'm going to have to do it myself. Just trying to avoid it. I already relocked once this week to test BabyRacun (which I also requested be updated, btw).
Onandroiding now in prep for full stock mode. I'm hoping someone steps up and I don't have to do it.

I have unlocked, rooted, made nandroid backup before flashing ziggy's kernel with cwm. I have seen to diferent answers on here about getting back to stock kernel. I have heard all I have to do is reboot into recovery and restore nandroid. I also have heard I have to flash the stock kernel. How exactly do I go back to stock kernel?? Also if I wanted to try another kernel, do I have to get back to stock kernel before flashing another one?
Download the stock kernel located at the bottom of the first post HERE.
First, and most importantly, make sure you have no PH98.IMG files on the root of your Sdcard, if so delete them. After your nandroid restore, go back to the main menu in recovery and power down the device.
Extract the Boot.img from the Stock kernel downloaded and flash via fastboot. Reboot the phone and you should be good.
sorry i'm a noob with the htc devices. Ok so i've downloaded the stock rooted kernel. after that, I erase that PH98.IMG from my sd. shut my phone off, pull battery, put battery back in, hold down power and -vol, select recovery with power button, go to back up/restore, then run nand restore, go to main menu and power down. after that i'm lost!! I downloaded stock rooted kernel on my computer, where do I extract the boot.img to and how do I flash it with fastboot? I'm sorry i'm a noob!!
Thanks in advance
Unzip it to the same folder you have fast boot in. Open cmd window and CD to that directory. Then fastboot flash boot boot.img
sent from my cm7 rooted fire
what about the boot.img thats in my nandroid backup folder? couldn't I just flash that with fastboot? still not sure how to flash with fastboot.

It's cool. In order to flash kernels/recoveries we need to do so through fastboot from the PC because we are not S-Off. We just have to deal with it but it's not all that bad.
You don't necessarily need to go back to stock, you can flash a modded kernel over an existing on, however, you need to make sure to flash the modules that come with the boot.img from that kernel as well. Otherwise you may have issues such as wi-fi not working.
thanks so much. what exactly is or does s-off and s-on mean? I'm used to my ogdroid and droidx

The S stands for "Security". While we have an unlocked bootloader aka. S-On we cannot flash new/leaked radios or kernels in recovery (.img or image files). Only S-Off devices can do that.
The HTCdev unlocked bootloader allows us to almost anything to the phone except flashing radios that are not signed by HTC. For kernels, we need to flash them in fastboot which is essentially a workaround.
That may not be the best explanation but it's time to leave work . Searching will provide you with more detailed information.

Those are the files you would need in order to run the stock kernel if you don't want to restore your nandroid. Flash the stockmodules.zip in recovery and place then flash the PH98IMG.zip in the bootloader.

I figured thats what they were for. Thanks again for your help.
Hello all,
I had the CWM installed, and my phone died when I was asleep, down to 0%.
Now, it won't charge. I got a half charged battery in today, so I'll be able to do some things.
The phone is S-off.
Anyways, I would like to know how I would be able to:
-Remove CWM
-Recovery EVERYTHING to factory default
Also, I'm kind of a noob, so when it comes to telling me to let's say "flash amonra", please tell me how, or link to thread or something. If you can.
All help is appreciated...If I don't get this fixed I won't have a phone for a couple years.
Also, a tip: HTC Keeps track of those who unlock the bootloader on their phone, and tell Verizon. Which is how they find out even if you reflash, relock, etc.
First thing to do is get rid of that recovery! Soo many issues and you can use either the TWRP 2.1.1 recovery or AmonRA 3.15 (located in the dev threads). CWM causes phone charging issues (as you are aware) and I recommend not using it.
Are you familiar with flashing a recovery in fastboot? Were you running GB or ICS firmware?
I suggest you familiarize yourself with all the root lingo contained in this thread.

I believe you would use the command "fastboot flash recovery [file].img".
I wasn't running the IceCreamSandwich update, pretty sure of that. So it must be the GB. I would like to know how to remove the CWM.

Yes that command is correct you just have to make sure the recovery file is in same folder as your fastboot.exe.

Well, I fixed it. Or at least it seems. All I had to do was flash the latest RUU (which was actually the currently installed rom on my phone).
Well, hopefully clockworkmod is GONE.

CWM was great on my Incredible...but I've had the same problem you did with charging issues, not to mention backups that would freeze in mid stream.
Flashing a RUU was the only way I could find to fix it.

Are you S-off? If not, you need to fastboot flash the kernel after flash ROM. Check the stickies.
Edit: or use flash image GUI to flash the kernel/boot.IMG.

Okay so I'm running into a small issue and it really doesn't matter to me in the end but I would like to use the Viper boot img rather than the Sprint obviously. I originally flashed 3.1.4 using twrp and i can do everything i want to. However, since im in s-on mode I couldn't flash the boot img and when trying to use the img flasher, it recognizes my device, reboots to fastboot. Then my computer doesn't see the device anymore and the flasher times out and fails.
Is there a link to the latest HTC drivers im maybe missing or do i need to be in bootloader first and install a new driver? I tried going into bootloader where the tool says its rebooting to but same thing.
Again, not the biggest deal in the world but the sprint boot is just terrible.
Any input is appreciated and awesome job Team Venom, keep on being awesome!
Thanks!

Okay so I got it to install now, though quick question, doesn't this boot consist of a Viper boot img instead of the Sprint logo on boot?
I tried pointing to the boot.img in the img flasher and also in the Viper 3.1.4 folder... maybe i was just thinking of something else and it was for just a faster boot time.
In any case, thanks for your help.

boot.img is the kernel. You are talking about a boot animation. 2 completely different things.

Hi,
So I initially wanted to use an RUU on my device. After figuring out I have a Vodafone UK device, and trying to find an RUU I have not succeeded. The only RUU I could find was a 1.14.106.x but my phone is at 1.17.106.x so I can't use that as it won't downgrade. If anyone knew where to get a newer version that'd be great.
But then I figured maybe I should just flash a pretty much stock ROM and that would do the trick for me. I decided on Revolution 8.0. I went into recovery flashed it and now I am stuck in a boot loop.
I can get into recovery and fastboot, know basic adb and fastboot but really need some help here! I'm all out of ideas, don't know what to do just want to get my phone back up and running again. I know you guys have a huge knowledge with this stuff so hoping you can help me.
Thanks in advance

To get it back to usable you can flash cm11 from here. But to get it back to stock you just have to hope someone wants to share a recent stock at&t backup(of system and boot) and a recovery image from the same.

So you can use RUU if your phone is rooted and has twrp? Ive never used RUU before.
And when its done, will you still be rooted with a custom recovery?

The only requirement to use RUU is that your bootloader must be locked/relocked. After that you can flash TWRP through fastboot and then flash the SuperSU zip from TWRP.
