I was browsing online today and I looked up my 64gb extreme sandisk microsd. While looking I noticed a new extreme plus version for 20 bucks less. I quickly thought extreme plus has to be better than extreme (see my logic there). Well it turns out that it is actually slower. The extreme plus has a 45mb/s read and write but the extreme has a 50mb/s write and an 80 mb/s read. Well worth the extra 20 bucks if you are dropping a hundred anyway. It is way faster than the ultra that I had. Just sayin'.

Most people wont notice the difference in read/write speeds unless they are constantly transferring movies/music to their device. Its a marketing thing. Sure they may be faster but you won't notice it when you open up your photos

I stay away from those SanDisk 64GB cards. Had two. Both died within months of owning them. Phone stopped reading em all together. Wasn't even moving files a lot or anything. Google it. Lots of people had this problem. Crappy cards.
Get a legit Samsung one. Never had an issue.

I could say the same about Samsung cards. Never ever had a problem with sandisk, but I got my first Samsung microsd and it wasn't helping when I had to factory reset my phone a few times last week. Took card out phone stopped bootlooping. Going back to sandisk next time. They are reliable and have highest compatibility with electronics.

I recently bought a sandisk extreme 64gb(red/tan colored) and the transfer speeds are insane..it was about 120$ but we'll worth it..I would recommend it to anyone who knows the difference in transfer rates and hates lag
I also got the 80mb/s card and couldn't be happier with it.
Just a reminder that you won't see anything close to those rates in the phone since it does not support UHS-1. In an external reader is a different story. 90/60 in an external reader but only 22/18 in the N3. Still worth it to me though, since the Ultra was only getting 24/8 in the phone, and I also transferred 32GB of Blu-Ray movies using an external card reader in about 8 minutes. In the phone that would have taken about 30 minutes, or over an hour with the Ultra.

let me say this for a millionth time. just because YOU got a bad one doesn't mean ANYONE else did. there are bad batches that go out and good ones some people say i tried a few had no luck and others tried a few and did have all the luck. i have tested and both brands their both just as reliable. i have been running a 64GB Ultra from Sandisk and used as the internal memory so it was running the apps2sd script for over a year without any issues.
please for the love god stop telling people stay clear away from these guys or those guys. not just you but everyone in general.
Isn't SanDisk like one the best brands to buy for SD cards? Lol

Well I ordered an Extreme Mega Super Maxi Plus so I hope it's not slower LOL j/k!
I brought SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 from amazon, did read on the forum that the note 3 currently does not take full use of the uhs-1.. and extreme is a total waste of money for using it with the n3. Instead it was better to go with the cheaper ultra. Got it for around 45 bucks for 64gb, culdnt be happier.

I've had the UHS-1 Sandisk version ever since I purchased it for my S3 2 years ago. I have been continuously using it since with no issue. Just always turn the phone completely off before inserting or removing it, and when used in a computer reader, to always tell the computer to eject that drive before removing it. Also never turn the computer on or of with the card in the reader. I have over 4,000 songs on this 64Gb card and over 10,000 photographs on it. When I got the Note 3 I just put the card into the new phone from the old phone. Then I was able to start moving apps to the SD card in each app's settings which is now available in this OS. It's never been an issue because I am so careful.

Those 64 GB card are usually slower than 32 GB... And my impression is, maybe I'm wrong, that 64 gb cards are much more risky cards. I will stick with 32 GB.

yeah, I looked at it, too. SanDisk class 6 micro SDXC. Let me know if you try it how it works for you. I'm using a 16Gb class 10, and it works great. I've seen sketchy things about 32 Gb micros having occasional failed reads, so I'm hesitant to go up, but I would like to be able to move all my music onto a single card, so let me know. Thanks.
Mine gets here tomorrow, I'll post back if its good or not
I've really considered upgrading if it does work well enough. I want to get my entire music collection on my phone without having to worry about storage. And this sounds perfect.

its great just format it in the phone, and you get about 61.2 GB after, and your good the write speed is around 9.5 mb/s and the read is 30-38 mb/s
Just formatted in the phone and came up as 59.46GB transferred all the stuff over now have 37GB available.

Personally 16GB is perfect for me. All my V0 MP3s can fit on that. I don't collect album and only my favorite songs.
personally I listen to flac files and they are frankly huge compared 10 mp3. I have 2 32 gig cards, maybe I should consider an upgrade.
CAUTION
While I do not really intend to go searching for the thread, an early adopter of the 64GB card initially thought it worked, and then it bottoms up pretty quick. Find the thread; but if he is correct DO NOT BUY THIS CARD FOR THE REZOUND.

Not exactly sure if this is the same one that Bestbuy has but I bought the SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 6 Memory Card for my Rezound and haven't had any issues (about a month old now). I formatted it on the computer then the phone. It is very expensive but definitely worth it in the end. Before the 64 I used my 32 GB microSD that came with the Thunderbolt without issue. Up to now I haven't had any adverse effects.

You know I would be mad at this G. Skill 32GB Micro SD but I got it on sale. Original price of $29.99 and had a promo code on May 13 to get an extra $8 off. Add free two day shipping to that and it's just a sweet deal.
I'm disappointed in speeds but for around $22 it was a steal.
P.S. I know more read/write with an SD card is good, but what for actually? I mean this in all honesty. I have no clue. I can access my songs and apps in less than a second upon touch. Boot time is maybe faster? Someone enlighten me.

It allows you to get stuff done quicker. Burst mode picture will probably be higher quality. The big one for me (and the main reason why I bought a class 10 for the first time) is that it will allow you write to the card faster and ultimately allow you to take a higher resolution video. Might help a little with pictures too in burst mode.
Sorry for going a bit off topic but this is a little of my recent background:
I am a firefighter and I just bought a helmet camera. Since it has 0 internal storage, I am forced to buy an sd card. I was talking to the technology committee (which I am a part of) and they agreed that I should get a class 10 card so I can take high resolution videos of us training and doing actual firefighting. Best part is, I got the station to pay for 2 . After training or whatever, I can take the card out and plug it into my Transformer Prime and I can stream it over the TV.
For the average Joe, a class 10 might not be all that exciting. I haven't gotten one before because I have never felt the need to get one.
I also just got the Gskill card, just no phone to stick it in (grrrrrrr)
Using h2testw on my computer, I got 9.5-10.6 MB/s sequential write speed, and 17ish MB/s read speeds.
Good enough for me.

i believe the card he is referring to is class 10 uhs-1. thats a pretty great deal seeing as i got the class 6 uhs-1 for 40.. i didn't look hard though..
wondering though, card states up to 30MB/s.. is that read time only? will this still well outperform a class 6 uhs-1 for capturing video or does anyone know if both cards are adequate/overkill?
My order is already in packaging. Oh well. I probably would have went with the ADATA anyways since the reviews are generally good.
I bought this card a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier! If you want a true test of the card speed you can not use the phone, use your pc. I recommend using ATTO disk benchmark. I consistently get 11.9 write and 20.1 read. class 10 and then some!

Last year SanDisk said (source: can't find it again) to expect 128GB microSDXC cards by the end of Q3 2013 (september), but, we're... still... waiting. I wonder what the holdup is?
As soon as they're spotted in the wild, I'll be buying one on day1 for the expected ~$100 asking price, which'll bring my total Note3 capacity up to 192GB(!). Also never had a corrupted card issue from SanDisk, unlike some others, so no qualms there.
And before anyone asks: Yes, 128GB is compatible with the Note3, even though the specs says only 64GB is supported. They always do that. the microSDXC spec actually supports up to 2TB, and there's no reason why the phone shouldn't be able address up to 2TB in hardware or software.
Anyway... keep an eye out folks. It'll look something like...... THIS:

Ouch So you got yours in November of 2011 and paid the high early adopter tax.
I didn't have a SDXC capable phone until I picked up my S3 in June 2012, and only paid... $64.49 for my 64GB sandisk off of Ebay via China. Was a good deal at the time, as the price averaged higher for a few months following as demand for SDXC picked up (thanks to S3 sales).
I'm hoping the 128GB sdxc won't be so obscenely overpriced at launch.
I paid over $100 for a class 10 32GB. A year or so later they are less than half that. lol. O well, I wanted fast speeds and I got it. I just paid a hell of a lot of money at the time to get it (compared to what they cost now).

I am definitely interested. Building up a big library of stuff on my current 64GB and wondering how that is going to continue working for me... Especially since we are all stuck with 32GB of memory instead of the option for more... What about the other card providers?
Isn't $200 for 128GB a huge ripoff?
Considering you have high Performance SSDS with longer durability AND built-in controllers with cache for nearly 50 cents per gig.
And how much larger are those SSDs than a microSD card?

Weird. My 64GB Sandisk has been working just fine for the last year and half, in a S3 and Note3. It's formatted Fat32 instead of exFAT, though, due to early compatibility issues with ROMs and recoveries. Will be reformatting as either exFAT or ext4 depending on when CM10 for the Note3 is ready.

have you even seen the inside of an SSD? Hint: Mostly empty space. The actual Memory chip is about the same size.
They just omit the extra high performance components (Like cache, controllers) on Micro SD packages.
Instead of putting in ONE big capacity chip = SLOW , they put a couple smaller chips So they can work FASTER in parallel
Same flash Memory technology , less Side components = more $?

I have the exact SanDisk card you have in your picture (64GB) and started using it in my S3, now have it in my Note 3. It has always worked perfectly. These caveats may be what helped achieve this success:
1. Never reformatted the card.
2. Never rooted either phone
3. Never took the card out unless the phone had finished turning off and was unplugged.
4. Never took the card out of the reader on my PC unless I first went into windows explorer and first selected "eject" for that drive letter, and waited until the message popped up on the desktop saying it was OK to disconnect that drive.

You serious? Those chips are usually 8/16/32gigs and they're bigger and thicker though not a lot. Yes, you're right they work in parallel, but they need ram, controllers and a lot more energy to work how they do and how fast. Shrinking 128gb to micro SD size is probably secondary to getting it to work reliably.

That's what I Mean, SD Cards have less Components but higher cost.
BTW, sdcards have internal controllers just lower performance Ones.
Hard to believe the cost of minutarizaton (which usually brings costs DOWN) is higher than the cost of enhanced performance .
Should at least balance out.

That's the one! It does look fake indeed and only £50... suspicious! If anyone decided to go for it please let us know!
Can anyone help me decide which memory card is the best to get for my note 3 ?
Would be the one with the fastest transfer and reliability
Cheers Guys

I'm using the SanDisk 64 GB class 10 and its more than perfect and speedy go for it without thinking twice

I am using ADATA 64gb class 10. I got for good price on Newegg $48. Newegg sent me a coupon for subscribing. This is only a few weeks old and no problems.
I have 3 ADATA 32gb class 10, that have been working well for a few years. Since these had a good track record I went for the 64gb.
Note 3
Don't ever get patriot.
Had a patriot SSD = failed after a year.
Had a patriot MicroSD = failed after a year, with photos on it! Was able to recover them and did a slow format only to have it be unrecognized a few days later...
Sandisk now with a lifetime warranty

Thanks for posting.
Screw Patriot memory. At work we bought about 100 for development, and although we were hard on them, almost every one failed within a couple of months. Switched to SanDisk and everything was fine. Personally (not work), almost every Patriot brand product I've ever owned (RAM and SD) has croaked. Their warranty is solid, when something is under it they have *zero* problems replacing a product and doing it quickly, but simply not worth thee downtime.

Don't buy this card yet! (64GB)
I'm having damaged sd card problem (like a batch of Ultra with Note 2 and S3) with this card,
and I've already got an replacement from SanDisk and showing the same issue.
I'm contacting them and SanDisk seems to be working on this problem.

Got SanDisk Ultra microSDXC and works very well for me. No issues so far.
I'm using the Sandisk 64gb ultra, which I've used for about a year in my Note 2. I have the Sandisk extreme 64gb on order since I'd like to take advantage of the usb 3.0. I transfer movies a lot to my phone, so the extreme should be twice as fast.
Same here, im debatin if I should wait for the 128gb micro sdxc or just buy a 128gb sdcard and buy one of those microsd to sdcard adapters.
Sent from my note 2 ya bish!
Problem is here i'm not sure if the Note 3 can even take advantage of the Extreme cards. I swear I read somewhere that they're only a few more MB/s faster than Ultras in the S4. HUGE speed difference using a USB card reader though.

How do you get files onto the sd card? Can you directly transfer to it when it's plugged into you note?

anyone notice overheating issues when using a Sandisk Ultra micro SD 64GB card? Mine overheats when the card is mounted but returns to normal temps when I unmount the card and remove it completely from the phone. I am not sure why this happens.
Just a quick note to let people know that Sandisk has released a 128 gb micro sd card that is out now. You can get it from Best Buy. Amazon also carries it.
The price is $199 at Best Buy. Amazon has it for $119.
Grab it folks!
Already ordered mine
Unable to use with this device, though, right(I have the 8.4)? It only accepts cards up to 64gb.
Edit: it only SEES cards up to 64gb.

Nope it will support it, it says up to 64gb because that is all that was available at the time of release.

You can also mount USB flash drives via USB otg. I've successfully mounted sd cards and an ssd this way

Be interested in seeing if there are any issues with using it with the Pro 8.4. I have a 64GB now but would love to put a 128GB in it.
Works like a charm! You get 119 GB total capacity after formatting.

Awesome! Thanks for checking. That's a $1 a gig!
Except for the Galaxy Nexus, I'm new to Samsung (have owned Pandigital Novel, Toshiba Thrive, and many Google tabs/phones) so would appreciate knowing if there are any micro cards I need to avoid (not brands--unless you know of specific ones that are troublesome on this device, but types such as SDXC). I wouldn't think there would be any limitations for this tablet (just pre-ordered the 12.2 tab pro), but thought I'd ask you experts.
It's great to know about the 128GB capability, but 64GB will suffice for the thousands of comic books.

I can't complain about 119 gigs, that's a crapload of storage for a tablet. I wonder why 119 out of 128, though? There is no software on it correct?

That's normal, 119 is what you will get once the the storage device is formated. You are not guaranteed the full 128GB. Its been like this for storage devices since the beginning. 119GB sounds right for a Marketed 128GB Drive.
There will never be software installed on a blank storage device.

The Tab Pro 10.1 is my first Samsung device, and my first SD card I ever bought was for this device, so I'm no expert. It's a 64 GB MicroSDXC Class10 card by Transcend, and it works fine. I can watch movies from it with no problems.
I actually called Samsung support and they said the SDXC type of card should work, even if their web site didn't list it. It lists SDHC/SHD SD Card, whatever SHD is.
The card I bought comes with an adapter, and I also bought this card reader too.
Hope this helps.
Thank you, it really helps as I was looking at that type of card exactly. Coincidentally, I bought that card reader in Sept. to use with my N4 and N7. Now I use it with N5 and N7 FHD.

EDIT March 5: Amazon is running specials Sony cards and drives--no 128's. I ordered the 64GB SDXC Class 10 that I wanted for $36.
Remember guys, best buy now matches amazon prices as long as its sold directly by amazon. So if its more convenient to just stop by a best buy and pick it up you can save $80 (I just price matched an amazon price for a iPhone 5c case for my sister at best buy the other day. I'm from the us if that matters.

This card isn't eligible for price matching. There's some small print on the matching even though sold by amazon. It needs to have a lpg (low price guarantee) icon on the BB item. I just spoke with a CSR on it .

Technically, you are correct but I simply stopped by a store and had the sales girl enter the order at Amazon price. She simply just checked the price at Amazon site and entered $119 as adjusted price. Sometimes ignorance or oversight is a bliss.
Also., the Amazon.com version is Asian one whereas Best Buy is carrying the USA one.
I just price matched mine over the phone with Best Buy. $127.33 was my total and I get it next week.
UPDATE: Shipping was really fast. I guess they sent it over night. Works great on my 8.4!

Thanks to those of you who took the plunge and tested that it works, can't wait to get my hands on one now!
I'm seriously loving this tab. Upgraded from the P7510 which lasted me well for the last few years, but this tab is something else - the screen is soooooo beautiful
