Yes. It will not boot since your P769 has a locked bootloader. You can unlock the bootloader using the tutorial we have here, but I am not sure if the P768 ROM will work on it.

There is no "best" version.
Most people seem to have D620r, however there are many others who have the other versions.

It depends on the region you live and if you want to have dual sim or 4G/LTE.
It seams there is no model that combines dual sim with 4G.

Here is modified kdz[stock with an ability to root it]. Stock kk cant be rooted as I know.
Stock KK has a locked bootloader and going with katauri's suggestion is your best option.
