Upgraded HBOOT to 2.28 - Stuck on White Screen - HTC Rezound

Yesterday I upgraded my hboot to 2.28. Immediately afterwards, the phone would not get past the HTC white screen (I let it try for 45 minutes).
I can't get into recovery (flashes the HTC white screen, then goes to the green "circle arrows" for about 30 seconds, then to a red triangle with an exclamation mark).
In FASTBOOT, I don't get "fastboot USB" - I get "fastboot AC", and my computer can't see the device.
I'm at the end of my "know-how", and need someone to coach me through this.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks for the offer REV3NT3CH. At this point, I'd like to do the process myself and not send the phone off. I don't mind the hassle... just not sure what to try next.

DHChristensen- I've got just about the same problem. Mine occurred while trying to S-Off with Juopunutbear. I'm stuck on the Juopunutbear logo, no USB connectivity in Fastboot, and no recovery loaded.
Could you let me know where you found a PH98 image of Clockwork mod? I'm hoping I can load it from the HBOOT 2.28 that's currently on the phone.
Thanks in advance,

Thank you for the advice Rev3nt3ch, I don't get the QHSUB_DLOAD device, nothing at all when I connect the phone to the PC. I tried anyway on my Linux PC to run the fix you suggested, it never finds the phone connected.
I went through all the other fixes suggested by the unlimited.io people over a chat session with them, no joy.
So, it looks like I am bricked. All I can do is boot to the HBOOT menu, or let the phone boot up normally, which takes me to the Juopunutbear logo.
Again my thanks for the advice,

if you can still get to hboot you are not bricked...just a soft brick and this can be fixed...try the above posted method...if not you can mail the phone to me and ill fix it for you

I did a little research, Juopunutbear replaces your boot image temporarily, you need to put it back to fix your phone. What rom where you using when you attempted s-off? You need to make a PH98IMG.zip with the kernel (boot.img) from it. It's pretty easy, just need 7zip to update the zip image with the boot.img you were using. If you can't get the phone to communicate with a PC, you will need a card reader though to get the file on your SD Card.
Your other option is to keep trying controlbear and the wire trick til it takes.

Thank you kindly for the research. I was just running the stock ROM. I've tried restoring the boot.img from a downloaded copy, it appears to load, but doesn't change anything.
Juopunutbear does save the image from the initial attempt in a file calle boot_backup.img. I've renamed it and tried flashing, same thing.
I think my biggest mistake was that I did not load a recovery prior to running Juopunutbear. I just unlocked the device, then went to do the S-Off procedure.

S-off achieved, but now phone's a brick

I managed to get s-off, but my phone would not boot. I was stuck on a screen that said "JuopunutBear" with an arrow. I did the internal storage fix, now the phone is really screwed. I'm stuck on a white screen with "HTC". I can't boot to recovery and the PC won't recognize phone so ADB commands don't work. Any help would be appreciated.

Get one of the old GB RUU's and run it on your phone. Start again. If your phone was truly bricked, it wouldn't power on and you wouldn't get an LED light when it was plugged in.

This is an easy one, or would have been when you were on the black screen. Well the internal storage fix scares me, but hopefully that wont matter. Typically all you need to do is get the PH file from your rom and place on sd card, boot into hboot, and run the update I believe, then reboot.
This title needs to be edited as it's misleading.

Relax. The S-off process blows out your recovery. You didn't brick your phone.
Put a recovery image on your SD card, go into hboot (from a powered down state, power button and volume down) and let 'er reload recovery. If you can't get the file on your SD card through your phone, pop the SD card into a card reader attached to your PC and stick it on there that way.
Once that's done, remove the image file from your SD card, put your fav ROM on it, and install it from recovery.
You may need to fix your SD card's mount points. Within the thread on S-off, there's a link to the process.
None of the commands work because the phone is not recognized. I cannot boot to hboot. Uh oh.
I had the same screen. Pull the battery and reboot into hboot, volume down+power and run the s-off program again. Something didn't finish and it will pick up where it left off in my experience.

What happens when you press power+volume down?
Edit: Also, if you're phone turns on, you're not bricked. It's pretty hard to brick this phone.

As I understand it, the only way to brick a phone is to bork a radio installation.
Dude...pull your battery, put it back in, then power and volume down at the same time. If you can get to hboot, life is good.
After about 30 battery pulls I was able to get to hboot. I have no idea what the issue was. Finally got the phone booting now. I appreciate the replies.

Constant reboots
I am able to install roms, but I get constant reboots, every few minutes at best. I tried a few different ICS ROMS. I am running the latest firmware. I BELIEVE with s-off I shouldn't have to flash PH98IMG.zip. I tried fixing permissions also but it has not helped.
How did you get the latest firmware and radios without running the PH98IMG.zip? The ics roms you are installing won't update your firmware.

Well the newest leak came out 5/7 and the one before that 5/2 so only a week ago. I would download the newest from Android Police and follow the instructions they give to install, then flash a recovery and install a rooted Rom for this firmware like Scott's.

I don't know why you relocked...I think there's a thread about not so good things happening to those who relock after S-off. I downloaded and installed the 5/5 leak as PH98IMG after I S-off'd and reflashed the recovery.
I'm pretty sure my hboot said "locked" straight out of the gate after I did the S-off deed.

Nothing bad happens, you just don't ever get back to "locked" without doing S-off again. You're just at "relocked" like the old days. S-on with an eng hboot on the other hand will brick your device.
That aside, there's no need to unlock if you're S-off. Either flash a patched hboot or just flash a PH98IMG.zip of AmonRa if you don't need fastboot commands (I did the latter).
I flashed the last firmware before S-off. I followed the instructions given. I flashed the latest firmware today and this damn thing still reboots constantly. I flashed the 5-7 firmware then the Venasaur Rom.

You need to try installing the radio firmware or just install the complete RUU again. And install a clean copy of the rom, not a nandroid backup. Wipe data, cache, dalvic cache, and system before flashing the rom.
Send me a private message if you would like and I'll help you get it figured out on gtalk.

[Q] What have i done? Can only get in bootloader...

Sooo, playing with rooting, been rooted for a couple days, flashed viperlte rom and had problems and decided to take it back to stock for now. Gonna be on the road and can't be 'experimenting'...attempted to go back to stock, by using the original RUU, and as I understood it, I needed to lock the phone back first. Didn't make sense as I was wondering how I could flash a Rom if it was locked back. After locking, when trying to go to recovery, it just comes back to fastboot. I can't get into the main phone--it boots to a screen, but no buttons work, although if i press volume up/down it shows it on the screen. What have I done?! I'll admit being a newb to phones, so please, some guru help me get back to something
Here's what fastboot shows:
TAMPERED
RELOCKED
SECURITY WARNING
Fireball pvt ship s-on rl
Hboot 1.15
Radio 1.53
opendsp v29.1.0.45
emmc-boot
It wouldn't read either of the mini sd-cards I used after rooting, so I can't just get use my sdcard with a new or original rom. I can't get to a main phone screen to turn on usb debugging, so no adp? Any ideas?

I can't get into recovery or use adp commands from windows, is there another way I can wipe and flash?

Bricked or Dead. Or Bricked AND Dead!

A few days ago I flashed Zarboz's 4.2.2 kernel over NOS 3.0.6 and found trickstermod would crash on launch or crash the entire phone. A complete wipe of system and internal fixed that.
With all the current issues I forgot why I wiped again but after flashing NOS the phone stays on the slash screen.
At this point I figure a ruu is needed. I relocked, an trying to use the utility but it stops after I click "update" no warnings or messages out just goes away.
I'm pretty sure it's dead but am looking for help before headed to Verizon for a new device.
Thanks.

I fixed that by superciding with 2s, got the code after that. I'm trying to get rid of the custom splash screen but am getting a failed: remote not allowed error. The eng Hboot won't go away either. from what I'm reading it all needs to be changed to RUU(?).
Looked at the LG G2 and it "did nothing for me" so I'm back to trying to get this fixed. Feels like some progress although not really in actuality.
-Edit: I'm still unlocked S-Off trying to flash.
-Edit2: I thought 1.33 was the eng Hboot. DOH!

I did. It's now stock splash screen, 1.33.001 HBOOT, *** RELOCKED ***, I even flashed the 2.06 OTA so recovery is stock.
The RUU still disappears after clicking "Update", I'm DL'ing from a different source. I can only figure there's a problem with it.
-Edit: And that was it! Update is going.
Yea it shouldn't just disappear...
After clicking update, do ctrl+atl+ delete
Is the ruu still a running process? If so, give it some time... It might just be "loading"
If you need a new source still tomorrow I'll host it on my Dropbox

But now I have the 158 image error! Motherpussbucket!

Thanks the 2.06 for messed me up. I thought supercid allowed downgrading. It apparently does not.
So much for that. I now have a 152 update error!
I'm back to thinking the hardware is messed up. That would explain my weird kernel problem.
TWO bad downloads! Before I gave up, which I was close I decided to download from the Hotfile link.
It too hours but... I'm now booted! MD5s probably would've saved me some time.
@Phaded I extracted the rom.zip just in case. I'm going to upload it later if you want to link to it.
flashing it through fastboot would probably be easier and it shows errors unlike the RUU updater.
Thanks for the help.
I have a question...
The RUU... Were you flashing it? Or running it on the computer? I only ask because of your attached pic.
Anyways, RUU.exe usually shows errors. I wonder if the one link is bad... I'll download from it tonight and run it on my throw away DNA...

I did everything possible is every combination.
While flashing after in "recovery", (black screen, HTC, and 4 exclamation points), I founda thread saying to try flashingthe rom.zip, so I did that too.
The photo is after unplugging the phone on that screen. It showed the error.
The HTC RUU shows the error afterwards but not that it was having a problem with /system.
Flashing through fastboot showed the error in realtime. Besides it skips that dreaded programand could be done in Linux or Mac
This is Odd...
I appear to be soft bricked again after flashing NOS and Zarboz kernel.
Going to try CM.

Could always do fastboot oem rebootRUU and then fastboot flash zip ruu.zip instead of running the .exe

Did that again tonight. It's much quicker and easier than the exe.
I flashed the wrong splash image and it still took. I'm interested in if it runs any checks at all. That would be aewsome for restoring to stock.
Side note: my phone will boot CM-20130913, but not 20130914. this is so weird I checked my computers' memory with MemTest.

Bootlooping...

Hello,
I was recently given a bootlooping Evo 4G Lte. I have been trying to figure out how to get this thing out of a bootloop and havent been able to do it. I, unfortunately, have no history on what happened to this device. Currently, it bootloops on the "Mean Bean" loading screen but will go no further. I can get into the bootloader, which says it is Unlocked, S-On, but I am unable to boot it into a recovery, it just returns back to bootloader. I have tried fastbooting twrp, but it fails (remote: image update error), and I have tried fastbooting the Mean Bean kernel thinking maybe thats all it needs, but that failed as well. Anybody have an insight? Much appreciated! Thanks.
Mike
I would run the 3.17 RUU. Hit the top link in my sig and look at the last post in the thread. You can run it from the bootloader. You'll need to re-root afterwards but it should get your phone back in working condition.

Thanks for the quick reply. I downloaded the RUU and ran it. However it sits and says "Waiting for bootloader" then errors out with "USB connection issue". The usb is working. The reason I never ran the RUU in teh first place was because i thought i read that you cant RUU with and unlocked bootloader. Is that not true? or is that my problem?
Mike
Not 100% sure but I will check with someone who used this tool recently and see if they were still unlocked at the time. Were you connected via Fastboot USB? Sounds more like a driver issue.

Yeah I was connected and it said fastboot USB. It said rebooting to bootloader and rebooted, still said fastboot USB. Then it sat at a screen that said "waiting for bootloader" and after a while error ed out.
You can try relocking. You just need to run the command "fastboot oem relock" from a command line while connected via fastboot USB mode.

you can use the stock RUU and you can leave the bootloader unlocked as it will not affect anything.. it will fix your looping problem (Amongst others) as in gps not working ect.. once your done you will need to fastboot over your TWRP and from there mod as normal Good Luck! and ill be watching if you need any help!

When in doubt update your android SDK remove the htc drivers reboot install drivers reboot and you should be good to go! Check the integrity of your USB cable and if possible use a rear USB port (More Power) Painful process yes but well worth it.. HTC drivers act strange till you reboot OOOh and make sure your using the proper HTC drivers for windows 32 bit or 64 bit!

The drivers seem to be ok, but I am still not able to get any further. The RUU finds my phone, then reboots again to bootloader, but it just sits there saying "Waiting for bootloader" until it errors out due to "USB Connection error". I have tried a few different cables, and different USB ports. Not sure what the problem is but it just wont go any further. I re-unlocked my bootloader with htcdev. I have tried fastbooting a recovery to the phone but it errors out. I just cant get anything to work so I can boot anything. I really just want to get something working...anything! Any other ideas? Thanks.

use an sd card put a recovery image on the root of the sd boot into bootloader apply the recovery you should then have a recovery if you did it right, go into twrp mount device add a rom flash in recovery viola.

Sinister,
Thanks for the reply. I put TWRP on the sdcard (named PJ75IMG, right?) and tried to apply that when I rebooted to recovery last night and it failed. It tries to load it but gives a few errors quick (No Image) Did I do it wrong?

Well, which recovery file should I be using? When I use the main TWRP ones (ie openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-jewel.img) it gives me the errors like I said above. I now see they have a few labeled like this PJ75IMG-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.zip. When I use these, it tries to continue but says "Main Version Is Older. FAILED"

Start with S-OFF. After that, you just run the RUU from HTC (like you would've done to upgrade to 4.3).
after that thats all i do?

Your storage is likely corrupt. You can format it with your PC but this will delete everything from your storage. All you need to do is download the SuperSU zip to your phone and flash it in recovery, then you'll be rooted. You'll also need to install the SuperSU app from the Play store if it's not included in whatever ROM you flash. Once you've done this you can start the S-off process.

If you have any important files on your internal storage copy them to your PC. You can download the SuperSU zip afterwards and use your computer or a file manager to move it to your SD card if you'd like but it won't matter where you put it, it's just personal preference.

Well, i was in the process of rooting my phone and it got deleted like it got totally swipped, so i tried flashing a rom called viper4g and while it was succesfully installing, and it did, it took me to the htc screen and after that it was blank like black screen. so i hard reset and i got into bootloader, i pressed recovery and it doesnt let me go in. my phone is seriously bricked. i can access fast boot commands but i cant access recovery. i tried re flashing it and it still doesnt do any good! can you help with this?

I would suggest running the RUU again. Connect your phone and PC via Fastboot USB mode. Once you've done this, double-click the RUU to start the installer. Since you're S-on you may have to relock your bootloader first.
