Hi, all.
This is my first post (I had another account, but I don't remember the details...) and I wish to thank all people working to satisfy the curiosity of stupid newbies like me...
I would like to ask your opinion in order to choose a suitable ROM to speed my S3, which is unlocked by factory.
So, I will give the details:
GT-I9300
Android 4.1.2
Baseband I9300DXEMB1
Kernel 3.0.31-1287119
[email protected]#1
SMP PREEMPT Fri Jun 28 00:40:06 KST
2013
Build JZO54K.I9300XXEMF6
My goal is to eliminate unnecessary apps, like weather and other such. I use it mainly for calling, pics, vids, and internet/social networks.
Can anyone advise or help?
Thanks a lot.
Regards

I currently using temasek rom, and I'm planning to flash JustArchi rom JustArchi's rom thread has a very detail guide to help a newbie flash rom so I recommend you use JusrArchi's rom.
google 2 rom and flash the one you like
If you want to give ArchiDroid a shot here is the link, with a quite good guide written by me - last tab in second post.
However a rom is a matter of taste.

Hi All
Now for the last 2 weeks I have been looking at the Original development thread and the more you look at it the more you see Android 4.0.4 versions pop up.
Could someone please define for me what makes it version 4.0.4 as when iI rip the roms apart all of them in the log files of the Roms say XWLPS or something with a clear Android 4.0.3 next to it.
What confuse me about this is what makes it 4.0.4 when the internals of the DEODEX'ed files all say its 4.0.3?
I pulled all these roms apart because I wanted to see where the 4.0.4 comes from but ... ye
What?
4.0.4 roms are AOKP/CM9/AOSP roms
All ssung roms are 4.0.3 based till now
You may google are the changes between 4.0.3 and 4.0.4

Ok so that being said it would mean that the 4.0.4 is a made up version they gave their roms to be and not a true 4.0.4?
I'm trying to understand this as there will be a official 4.0.4 for the SGS2 and what then? Will they call their roms 4.0.5?
Cause their 4.0.4 wont be anything close to the official 4.0.4 ...
PS... Thanks for the person giving the tread a 1 star rating ... You really take trolling to a new level. Really epic work on you for being a coward rating the topic and not posting who you are.

4.0.4 has some fixes. The reason AOSP/AOKP/CM9 have version 4.0.4 is because they are built from sources directly from Google.
Samsung has yet to release an ICS version with 4.0.4 sources integrated into their version of ICS yet, thus they are still on 4.0.3. I presume once they integrate the 4.0.4 sources, they will also increment their versioning.

Thanks. That clarifies it a bit. Was it sourced from the Nexus? Because I know the Nexus is currently on 4.0.4 and has been for a while from what I could tell.
Why I'm asking and there was a good reason was that I was looking for the source code to build a rom from it but seeing as there are no available Default roms out there I was wondering where it got ported from and who dump the source code on 4.0.3 base versions.

If you want to make a new rom you will have to choose which base you want
Samsung
Samsung apps
4.0.3 for now
Good camera
Samsung apps like wifi direct
Touchwiz
CM9
Build from source
Daily updates (no ****, they update every day)
Some buggs like not so good camera and slow sdcard speed
No samsung apps
ability to switch to 2g only
4.0.4
AOKP
This is basicly CM9 with the rom control app which gives alot of customization
This is my knowledge, everyone can correct me if im wrong
They both have advantages and disadvantages...

I was looking to build a Samsung 4.0.4 rom. Thats why I wanted to look into the Source to update the relevant 4.0.3 framework or lib to make it work. But might just wait then for JB 4.1 to be released in the next month or 2

You're welcome, looking forward to your ROM.
Your info is all wrong, instead of getting angry on comments who are iterated by your wrong assumptions, try to learn with open head and delete your wrong info from your head first.

Samsung only released 4.03
Google released the source of 4.04 so oems or whoever can make the rom out of it for their devices.
Thus AOSP rom's are the only ones for S2 that are on 4.04.

Here you go, try it, and get some compatibility issues on market, and perhaps some other apps
You can get android 4.0.4 changelog here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481044
Remind that build.prop is just a .txt renamed to .prop, used to define some properties needed for device. Android 4.0.4 content is built on sources, frameworks, all the apps inside, from google source trees, directly forked to CyanogenMod sources.
If you dont believe, just get a fresh CyanogenMod source, and get a fresh AOSP source, and do some diff patchs . Or just look at android/default.xml, and you will see.
Hope this answer your question.

Yes you are a noob, and getting angry over it is wrong.
You already got the answer, just let me add this, as I already told you source is from google but if you are not a manufacturer of a phone you need model specific codes for it to work. So you need Samsung specific codes/drivers.
That's why you see some 4.03 codes.
I give you a very good example that anyone can understand.
i9100G didn't had cm9 until Samsung released ICS for it, and right after that you get cm9 for it.
Hello everybody,
To be honest, I haven't been reading the rules recently but I realized from one other topic that asking for ROM recommendation here is the forbidden thing...
Therefore, dear moderator and/or admin, before you pull the trigger and delete or lock this topic, please read this post till the end. Who knows, maybe it survives...
Having in mind that P7500 and P7510 had very limited official distribution of ICS for some reason, majority of users of Tab 10.1 are still at Honeycomb (yours truly as well).
I have definitely decided to make a move and do something about that but I need a bit of a help. A guidance, clarification and simplification of what are my choices.
Is it possible to make a kind of overview of the current Android versions offer for this specific tablet? What I'm aiming at is the short summary of which functions/features are buggy/unavailable under which Android versions. So, I am not asking for recommendation of the particular ROMs, but the version of Android I should pursue.
To summarize: Could you help me select the appropriate version of Android (v4, v4.1 or v4.2) for Tab 10.1 by pointing out what does not work (properly) in them?
Thank you very much for helping!
Bye!
We hear you.I will not delete it or lock it.
But hey look how the... we are moving as we speak incredible
Sent from my GT-I9300
I'm researching this exact question for a frend who just recieved one of these tablets. I'd definitely be interested in seeing something like this. (Actually, it'd be awesome to see a comparo/feature list for Roms for all the individual devices here on xda)
I ABSOLUTELY hate it when developers writes "You tell me" in the Bugs section of the first post of ROM threads. The only way to know if the ROM suitable for me is to try it out, and this is hard for some people who are always pretty busy in their lives. Of course, you can read the posts to find out the bugs, but sometimes that doesn't help much. It would be much easier if the developers just list the bugs in current version of the ROM (these are often told by users), and update the post when the bugs fixed.
Suggest a suitable ROM
Suggest a suitable ROMs, that are available for my TAB 10.1 (WiFi + GSM) in 4.1.1 / 4.1.2/ .......
I really do not understand the abbrv... P4, P4wifi, p4tmo, p4vzw, only for GSM or only for wifi
Now I am using "JellyBeanRom ICS v7 + A1 Kernel V1.8.3 + Voice Call Enable Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM Build 1
Thank you for allowing us to ask such questions

p4 = WiFi + 3G (some call it the international release / global release version of Tab 10.1) aka P7500
p4wifi = WiFi only version aka P7510
p4tmo = T-Mobile version
p4vzw = Verizon Wireless version
Suitable ROMs depends on u mainly... I am using the same ROM as what u are using right now.

I hate that too...but sometimes, not everyone face the same problems/bugs. Not everyone have bugs. Some may have the bug that u have, some may not be having it. Unless the devs themsleves are facing it then it'll be listed. If not, then it should be fixed. But, if u are facing any bugs even when in the OP says there is no bugs, just ask for assistance then. Hence. the "You Tell Me" statement in the bugs section. :good:

Hi,
Best rom threads are prohibited on XDA. Also, rooting is topic which has been extensively covered at a lot of places.
I do advice you to use the search function, and also try out different roms to see which ones suit you
Also have a look at the forum rules. :good:

I have already browsed the forums here. But i really need help. I would like to identify the current ROM that im using. I wil attempt to give as much information as possible.
Under settings i have this:
Android Version - 4.2.2
Baseband - S:i500.04 V.EHO3
Kernel Version - 3.0.84-g5dd3308
[email protected] #1
Thu Jul 4 15:20:31 EDT 2013 (assuming this is the date of install)
AOKP Version - aokp_fascinatemtd_unofficial_2013-07-04
Build Number - aokp_fascinatemtd-userdebug 4.2.2 JDQ39
eng.brian.20130704.135607 test-keys
Now i partially answered my question with the above. AOKP Version. Perhaps i could use google to find that file. But I want the same MD5 file. as this I know is good. Could someone perhaps guide me a link to this posted XDA file.

TY.. ironic enough I happen to find it. Went to delete the post but my phone wouldnt let me login to XDA..
Kudos To Bdogg for this rom.. Since my original post I have tried running every rom the fassy has thats on XDA. Well anything 4.2.2 and below. This is the only one without any issues whatsoever. Im still using it to this day. To bad there isnt an update to this build.
Hello, I will try build my own AOSP ROM but I wanna have clarify to some questions before I do.
I readed top-to-bottom this thread, is it still usable to build Android 5.1? With some changes, of course.
I noticed the process of building do not changes a lot when is to another device, I wanna know here the process changes. On this part the user instructs to download the driver files. I wanna build the AOSP to delos3gub (Samsung Grand Quattro), which drives should I get?
Also, in "#3 Choose your Device!" at the same thread (here), the user says:
If you're on GSM, you want to use "maguro." If you're on Verizon, you want to use "toro."
