Hi,
djtreo, i have a request to you...
You started the thread for Alcatel 995 and the first post is yours, can u edit it and add two links to it, please?
the links are :
1. Link to all roms and stuff for the 995 http://goo.gl/SDOQR
2. Rom comparison matrix http://goo.gl/532ZP
Hope this is not to much to ask from u,
Thanks in advance,
Aleksandar

This is really a great device. Amazing price-quality ratio. I just bought one as a second phone and I'm very happy with it.
Performance is comparable to Samsung Galaxy S+ but with a nice 4.3 screen.
And Alcatel has promised an ICS update so fingers crossed.
@ whigga: yeah, it's really a great device with such cheap price. it's a steal!
hopefully devs can look into this phone. it's something like LG Optimus X2 of some sort.
Available here now for $280
I really like the 4.3" over my 4.1" phones,
Strange they made no 850MHz 3G units for countries that have the stronger frequency like Australia, USA, Thailand, China etc... for those that dont know 850MHz can penetrate into buildings to allow better indoor reception.
Just like to bump this thread. Any update of development?
Heey guys!
I just bought this phone 2 days ago, after my Galaxy Gio died 1,5 week ago.
I'm very happy to hear there are more satisfied users of the OT-995 who want a custom rom and XDA thread
Let's hope a good developer will also get this beautifull device!
By the way: does someone know a good way to root the Alcatel OT-995?
@ markvann: that remains the question. I still got an unrooted OT-995. tried those rooting procs, nothing works atm.

Hello Petalotis!
I just looked, and it seems there is not 512mb ram. It's exactly the same as it is with Xperia Neo V I guess, because my telephone says there's something like 370 mb ram. Normally I'm a heavy device user (except for my last one, the Galaxy Gio), but I have to say this smartphone can handle all the apps I want. I'm really happy with it, and on Quadrant Standard benchmark it even scores better than Galaxy Nexus (and on Antutu they have around the same amount of points). So I hope you don't get fooled by the 'not-so-high' amount of ram, and that you can participate in searching for OT-995 root methodes and ROMs!

I want to buy a new Android phone and this one catch my attention, i have a ZTE Blade and want to upgrade .
The launch of this phone in my country (Portugal) will be in 7 of May with the name of "Optimus Madrid" and the price maybe would be €229,90, i was searching here if anyone begun to developing custom roms to him, will be an asset.
+1 for development of this device
also I would ask the people who bought this device if they try to connect mouse or keyboard in mini usb gate ?
already seen a guide to do this in galaxy s (in this forum). Hub must accept external power because there isnt enough power in mini usb
is it possible that this works ? can you try to connect keyboard and mouse in hub or a usb flash
i would appreciate that
thank you very much
I also have the alcatel ot-995.
I''ve tried things like superonclick and z4root.
Is there any possible way to root my phone or do I just have to wait for a new rooting way.
Hello! I just bought is phone people , has as nice price!!!
And I hope someone considering spend some time to make the root possible!!

Just like to bump on this thread again.
To Devs: Hopefully someone out there who has the heart to develop a ROM for this nice phone would be love by all who bought this amazing price-to-performance phone.

This phone is perfectly capable of making 3g video calls. At least it works in Holland, where I live. Do realize that this functionality also depends on your network provider if they allow it.

Yeah, you're right! Software implementation is defenitely not as good as the hardware should allow it to be. Processor and ram are more than capable, but still there is lag where similar speced phones have none. Hopefully the promised ICS upgrade will fix this or otherwise hoping for some good 'ol custom rom development.
OT995 Potentials
I'm a freak of speed for low cost and the alcatel OT995 will definetly be
my next one!
Hopefully does developers see the potentials of this low budget device,
and make a masterpiece ready to challenge with high-end non-price-quality
phones!
I keep fingers crossed, once a project gets started, I buy one !
So Samsung Canada has officially announced that all the Canadian versions are going to be just like the Japanese one with the Snapdragon CPU for LTE support and 2GBs of ram, at a glance it appears that everything else under the hood should be the same more or less (obviously dont know for sure but just guessing) so What Im wondering is will the firmwares be the same for these 2GB varients or will there be enough differences that the modding and development area of the S III will differ to the point that anything made for the GT-I9300 wont work on these models?
Naturally the assumed answer would be no, such as the custom SGS2's that have 4 touch buttons and no home key compared to the international model, however all S III's appear to all be the same layout of 2 touch 1 home and same phone design ect, just different CPU and amount of ram inside the phone.
+1 for this question, this will make if I buy or not the phone
The amount of memory is the least of your concerns.
The device is using a completely different chipset, it uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, so no, firmware/roms made for the GT-i9300 will not work on the version you're getting, not even the HSPA+ one.
But i'm sure there will still be a lot of support for doing custom roms on your versions as well
This has always been the case... anything for the "I " will have to be ported to work on north American variants... there will be different modems/kernels ...international will get updates first and certain things will be pulled to build roms for us.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA
Both of them are based on different soc. international version is using the exynos chipset
and the lte version is using the qualcom chipset. so the roms would be totally different
What I think he's asking is whether or not the Canadian and Japanese (for example) versions will be firmware-compatible, as they both will get the alternate SoC and memory, not the international version...
It's a question without an answer. All we can do is guess, and not educated ones. We'll have to wait and see.

Actually its both, I guess I should of worded this better with more details lol.
But my main thoughts were dev work on the international GT-I9300 and mods/addons etc working on the LTE 2GB varient (since at a glance it looks like they are the same phones but with different CPU/Ram), also as well Japanese/Canada/USA versions working together since it looks like all 3 countrys are getting the same model phones with the same hardware (different model numbers though because of branding purposes but same hardware inside the phone).
Im not looking for custom roms though my main thoughts are small addons that you generally see in the themes and apps section and the huge following that you see with the S II and constant checking and usage with new firmwares for the shake of improving everyones device, and most important of all CF-Root for the device. My concern is that most of the dev's will be putting the work and effort into the international model and not the other ones so I will be SOL unless I get the international model (which is why the question in the first place), but heres the other thing that bothers me with that...
It feels like its not worth the upgrade (hardware wise), everything is the same except 200MHz faster CPU with a couple extra cores that most apps probably wont take advantage of for some time to come, and a 720p HD screen which is nice but not really necessary. The S III feels more like a software upgrade rather then a hardware one (amazing software and improvements Samsung has done for the device over the S II for sure), but to me it feels like its not worth it unless your getting all the hardware improved upon aswell, like were just re-buying our S II's because its "shinier" with new and improved software lol.
Doesn't anyone else feel that the S III should of been not only a CPU upgrade but double the ram, improved MP's on the front and back camera's etc etc?
So with all that in mind atleast for me it feels like if im to get the upgrade it should actually be a nice upgrade (hardware wise) you know what I mean?
Well, our opinions appear to differ a lot on the subject, but I have no interest on elaborating on them yet again.
However, for rooting, for the SGS3 something like CF-Root is not needed due to the separate kernel and recovery partitions. You flash a modified recovery (once) then root through that.
Future firmwares can then be flashed with Mobile ODIN (which can root during flash), or (again) through the recovery, if you didn't overwrite it.

No I ment both. Compared to the international model and as well between the same alternate ones that are the same.
Pretty much don't want to get the 2GB ram model if most of the development is only for the international model, however getting the normal one over my S II feels like I'm practically getting a small upgrade if the ram isn't getting doubled among other things.

Try install antutu, you can see your phone spec in the system info.
Regarding the battery, imho,no software can determine real capacity, they only use interpolation from usage and prior setting.
Kernel and rom,are you rooted?
Be careful, don't mess them unless you know.
Kernel only can alter if you have source (unless you brave enough to build from scratch )
Rom,if you didn't touch it yet,it must be stock
What else, ram,it is normal not getting full 1gig,but it is not normal to reach 800mb in lean state.
Try to chack available ram soon after your phone started.
Normally arround 900ish
My suggest for you, china ohone is okay these days, but try to read/search prior order,so these question will get answered before you buy it
Enjoy

No replies... how unexpected... it's best to search some references before ordering on a random website... you wouldn't buy at a shady phone store, so why at a shady website?
As far as I see, there's not gonna be a refund. Guess you'll have to settle with what you have and save some money for a new one, or get a lawyer and go to court.

Well, guess you'll never hear from them again. Their paypal account is probably empty, so cashback is not an option. I know people like that... if the paper trail is long enough, no one will follow it.

so my question is if i decide to take another phone, it is possible to backup all the apps and contacts and restore it to diffrent device?
for exemple I make a backup of HTC and want to move it to Samsung, possible?
Depends on what you see as a backup. The APK can be backed up with free tools, for the rest you'll need root and a paid tool like rom toolbox pro.

You will obviously have to dump the idea....
Canvas HD uses Mediatek chipset! AFAIK, Mediatek doesn't support open source... And even if you port only one sim will work with lots of bugs Porting is still possible but compiling from source is impossible.... Even if it is possible it will take months to get it booted... Main problem of battery draining faster is always the HD Screen and high screen brightness...
My Suggestion:
Uninstall any Battery Saver App (They eat more battery)
Then put the screen brightness to medium
and then observe

Never keep it on Auto Brightness!!
It eats more and more of the battery
Auto Brightness uses An app + Sensors = More Battery Consumption So set it to medium instead of Auto Brightness

May I also add that items like GPS, Bluetooth, Auto rotation too eat up battery. Setting them off when not needed will surely add hours to your battery life.
Porting Query
I had a doubt regarding port different roms. i know both roms should be of same version e.g 4.1.2. but should the hardware also match. per se I am working on porting Sense 4 based Rom to Canvas HD. i have taken HTC desire V as it is also dual sim. both have different processor and ram. so wanted to know what specs should match for me port a rom. and also can Sense 5 be ported since it is a single sim?? thanks in advance.:fingers-crossed:

Friend size doesn't matter.
We don't suggest brands here as we don't get paid to suggest.
Every branded company's microsd card is good to buy.
You can buy 32 gb as mmx hd has 32gb support.
It doesn't make much difference in speed.
You should buy 32gb microsd class 10 for great performance

Swap internal with external without Root
I am trying to swap internal storage with external SD card according to steps mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274974
The step mentions to download update.zip but when i download, i get the file as root_swap.zip
Any idea if this is correct? If yes, how do i go about applying the same?
I booted the phone in recovery (Up arrow + power button) but i don't see an option to "apply from zip"

Confirmation Needed
Good Day to you all. I reside in the Philippines, and after doing quite some research, i discovered that the Micromax A116 is sold in the Philippines as the MyPhone a919i Duos. Looks, and specs seems to be the same. But I need confirmation if it would be possible to utilize all the custom roms, rooting, and everything else in the development thread of the A116 by the MyPhone a919i Duos. It would be nice to hear from someone who owns a MyPhone that tried some of the things in the development section. Much help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Hi,
I'm going to be buying a Samsung S2 for a family member as a backup phone but want to put CynanogenMod on it and change the pit size... but the variants of S2 are confusing, the family member currently has a Samsung S2 9100G and has http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2955551 installed.
I have the option of buying a cheap working phone from someone I know but it is an 9100 model, one of their original batch, is this compatible with the ROM and pit files from above?
Or should I pass on buying it and instead get an 9100G? What other ones are ok and obviously work in the UK?

I would go with the international version(i9100). It is more common, and there is more development for it. The "G" version has a different chipset, which makes it incompatible with roms from the i9100. From what I've heard the TI chip isn't as good overall as the exynos chip in performance either, although the numbers are the same(1.2ghz)

Thanks for your reply, it's more common really? Three other family members have had S2's and they were all i9100G.

Which is going against what I read kind off... According to wikipedia:
Galaxy S II - Model GT-I9100G
The Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100G was released in late 2011, and is usually sold instead of the original GT-I9100 in certain markets (mostly Asia and some parts of Europe). An overview of the Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100G can be seen on Samsung's official website.[61] It features a Texas Instruments OMAP4430 SoC instead of the Exynos 4210 in the GT-I9100. It is visually identical to the GT-I9100, as well as having the same 1.2 GHz processor speed and dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor technology. However, the SoC is of a different design and the Mali-400 GPU has been replaced by a PowerVR SGX 540 GPU. This difference in the SoC makes this variant incompatible with custom ROMs intended for the I9100, but it has been steadily gaining its own aftermarket support (such as from CyanogenMod[62]) due to the relative ease of development and the openness of the TI OMAP platform..

More common worldwide, meaning it has more developers and variety of roms etc. Perhaps where you are the "G" is more common as it was only introduced into a limited market.
The difference in hardware is negligable though, I only meant to say they are incompatible between them. The TI is indeed open source, so if you want to develop your own rom/kernels and create your own device tree/kernel tree etc. it would be much easier from a purely aosp base.
I guess at the end of the day, if you just want to install a rom, then forget it, either one will do. And the fact you have the files already for the "G" it might be easier to get another. If you plan to update the rom in the future or try a few different ones to see which one you prefer, I would recommend the i9100

I'm rather confused now... I installed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-cyanogenmod-12-t2955551 onto 2x i9100G phones and it works perfectly... but yet it isn't a G version of the ROM when I should have installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-2-unofficial-cyanogenmod-12-1s-os12-t3103494
How are they even working?!

I have no idea!! I don't have a i9100g, but everthing I've read indicates it is not possible. Can you take a couple of screenshots in "About phone" in settings with rom build and device variant? The only thing I can think of is if they used the same chipset as i9100 for some of the i9100g's at some point?? I don't know

I checked one and it was the i9100, I swear the other is an i9100G though, if it isn't then I'm seeing things and got incredibly lucky flashing that ROM lol, silly me.
