[Q] Trying to get back to stock, need a bit of help - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Ok so am
Rooted
Unlocked
S-on
Viper 3.17
I wanted to go back to stock
I relocked via fastboot oem lock
Now I am stuck in the stock recovery and can not find a 3.16 or 3.17 ruu for the life of me to download?
Any suggestions on my next step?

There is no RUU for either 3.16 or 3.17. If you were S-off you could use Viperboy's VipeRUU tool, which will put you back totally stock. Captain Throwback posted a link somewhere around here regarding how to go back to stock. If I find it I'll post it up for you. In the meantime, the easiest thing for you to do would be to unlock your bootloader and install TWRP recovery so that you have a working phone.

Thanks I was hoping to find a RUU, but now I have unlocked it again backed up rom with TWRP and trying to get Moonshine or RumRunner to work. No luck yet getting S-off

If you're on the 3.16 OTA use Moonshine; for the 3.17 OTA use Rumrunner.

Use stock rooted ROMs only

I am trying to do the same, and my phone is the same (Rooted, unlocked, S-on, TWRP, Mean Bean). I need to get back to stock to reactivate my phone with Sprint (long story). Can I flash a stock ROM with TWRP?

I actually did, but I don't have a data connection. The manager at the Sprint Store (who is actually a good friend of mine) said it won't activate data unless I'm on a stock ROM and can use the "activate this device" function under "phone info". Not sure if he's correct on that, but I can't get data, and need to go back to stock to see if it works...

Then flash one of Captain Throwback's stock rooted ROM's. You do not have to be "stock" to get your phone working again-you just need a Sense ROM.

easy as pie! Once I installed the stock ROM and activated the device I had 4G right away. Did a nandroid, reinstalled Mean, then reinstalled from my Mean back up and now I'm cooking with fire. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
FWIW - My friend was partially right, you do have to be on a stock ROM to reactivate data service, but you DO NOT need to unroot.

To piggy back off this, I'm planning to turn in my EVO 4G and move onto the Sprint One Up program...if I'm rooted on CM10.2 (still S-ON) though...how much effort do I need to put in for Sprint to accept my phone?

From what I have read some people have returned phones with them being rooted/unlocked and multiple roms and there has not been a issue. I guess worst they can say is no. Then go home return it to stock and try again.
Or just return to stock and take it in.
My purpose for the Original thread was I am going to sell mine and I just wanted to sell it stock. I sold my first Android Hero way back and it had been rooted and flashed and the person I sold it to had issues getting it activated through sprint. They sent it back to me for refund and I returned it to stock and sold it like that and the person who bought it was a ex sprint employee and he was upset I flashed it back to stock saying the person should have and zero issues activating it. Now he had to root and flash it himself. I just find it easier to return it to stock myself and sell it,
Then I know no matter if a basic or advanced user buys it they can activate it.
Hope that helps

A little help please

I just completed the HTCdev unlock, and now I'm going to flash meanrom. My question is, if I flash an earlier version of meanrom, can I use that to get S-OFF? I'm on .3 now, instead of the required .1. (I think that's the correct versions, not for sure.
You need to use lazypanda to get s-off. And it only works if you're still on version 1.13. If you've updated to 1.22.651.3 then you can't get s-off

Okay. I have the dev unlocked, ROM downloaded, can you link me to a recovery? I'm just getting back into this since my OG evo, haven't rooted for over a year. Need to get the swing of things. I haven't seen a link to a recovery I can use, so is there a guide for that? I need to be able to flash MeanROM, and all I've done so far is unlocked the bootloader with HTCDev.
After going through all of this and soft bricking my phone and getting a new one cuz I was too lazy to unbrick it, here is my advice:
After u root the phone, do nothing more than use the lazypanda method via Windows. DO NOT INSTALL ANY ROM ON YOUR PHONE TILL AFTER U LAZYPANDA UNLOCK!!! This is just my experience. What happened to me was just like everybody else, it reset and went black screen and was stuck in the diagnostic mode, and unable to turn back on.

TWRP recovery in the original development section is the only one that works for this phone, make sure to read the entire OP as I'm sure you already know.

You can install fresh 5.1.1 or viper 1.2.1...any stock Rom that is based off the 1.13 ruu and you must not be hboot 1.15

HTC Dev unlocked is not the same as Lazy Panda S-OFFed ~ they are distinct and separate scenarios.
Unless someone here has pulled off more "magic" the new OTA with hboot 1.15 blocks the exploits of the last rev of Lazy Panda, so you can have one or another, unfortunately.

Looking to go back to 100% stock

I have started searching and am having a hard time finding exactly what I need. Anyway, I haven't used my Rezound since I got my S3 so I am not really up to speed on where the Rezound is in terms of OTA updates and whatnot. Right now my Rezound is S-Off on a engineering hboot (I believe) and rooted, but it was stock otherwise (up until I stopped using it).
I would like to get it back to 100% stock (other than S-Off, I will leave that as is for now). What is the easiest way to get there? I am assuming flashing an RUU of the latest stock build? If so, what is the latest stock build that I would get if I re-activated the phone and updated it (meaning I don't want any leaks or anything).
Also, it has been so long since I did any flashing on the phone, but what is the easiest way to flash a RUU (since I have never done that). And can I just flash the latest RUU without flashing anything else first?
Thanks, and sorry for all of the noob questions.

Find the lastest RUU. I know its on android police. Place the file on the root of your SD card, check md5, rename to ph98img.zip, boot into bootloader and let it do its thing. You should be up to date.

Thanks! Yea, I just found it on android police. I am assuming it won't wipe the SD card or anything right? Since I am S-OFF I don't have to worry about re-locking correct?
Also, will that RUU get it back to the point where someone could get the OTA's and everything as if it was 100% stock with S-ON?
EDIT: How come that 4.03.605.2 isn't listed on HTC website yet? Has it not been pushed out yet? The one listed on their site is the 3.14.605.12

4.03.605.2 is the latest leak. it has changes to make the rezound a Verizon global phone.
3.14.605.12 is the last nationwide OTA official ICS.

Yes , running the RUU will not effect s-off status nor your bootloader locked status.
not to hijack the thread....but I have a question that relates to getting back to stock. I am running business sense, with the OTA. I would like to get the other global OTA.. I am s on. How do I go about doing that?
flash stock recovery
relock
run which RUU? the newest one is a PH file on android police
unlock
flash amon ra
flash new rom
does that sound right?
the part that I am questioning is the fact the global RUU is a PH file. But it says I have to be completly back to stock and locked.
any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I did s-off procedure a few months ago. it took several hours and kept failing. I used a large insulated paperclip with the insulating material removed from each end for good electrical contact.
What I had been doing wrong was not keeping the wire nice and straight in the hole. when the wire is not straight, it will not make good electrical contact with whatever is directly beneath the hole.
I just thought I'd share this tip in case it helps others.
regards,
Howard
p.s. There is no need to install the jbear modified hboot if you are uncomfortably with it. Installing the modified hboot is optional at the end of the s-off procedure. You will still have benefits of s-off with a htcdev unlocked bootloader while using a stock unlocked hboot. For example one can flash kernels via fastboot flash command with a stock hboot. s-off and jbear modified hboot are two separate modifications to the phone.

actually, on a stock, locked HBoot, you CAN'T use any fastboot commands. That's why it's highly recommended to install the JBear HBoot, plus it gives you an easy option to do it and it does it without the user having to do anything

Stock unrooted rom

I'm needing to take my phone into sprint because I believe my digitizer needs replaced. The screen keeps freezing and clicking random things without me touching it. Tried different roms and kernels do figured it must be hardware issue.
Anyhow I'm needing to keep my hboot s-off because my laptop craped out on me this week and wont be able to re root and s-off again without my laptop working.
All I'm wanting to do is make my phone look stock by putting a stock unrooted rom on it so sprint can replace the digitizer.I've looked on the web n can only find a stock rooted rom but where can I get a stock unrooted rom? Thanks

Easiest way is to flash the RUU.exe from Windows or the zip version of the RUU from the bootloader. That will return everything to stock including the bootloader and recovery, but leave you S-OFF so you can just flash a custom bootloader and recovery after they repair the phone and you will be back in business.

When my digitizer went out, I took mine in rooted and they fixed it no questions asked. In fact, one tech asked me about my team custom splash screen I made and another loved the skin I was running.
But, I understand not wanting to give them any reason to argue.

You do NOT need stock recovery to flash an RUU s-off.
With S-OFF you don't need to do anything. Plug your phone in and run the RUU. I just did this yesterday. All I had to do is flash TWRP and I'm right back to rooted.

can this be flashed on a AT&T HTC One, just left them and love the phone. BL is unlocked, have flashed the T-Mobile radio, but my phone continuously drops to EDGE, then back to LTE and 4G, I thought the baseband puts the frequencies needed for optimal T-Mobile network compatibility, namely the WCDMA 1700....im in NYC and i know they updated the towers here so 4G works on GSM1900, but having that WCDMA 1700 would be best. I guess there are other things T-mobile does to tweak the network i guess on the build.prop or whatever? not sure? any ways, any inout would be greatl appreciated,
just so anyone is confused. this was super easy to do to completely restore to a factory phone.
I was on TWRP w/ ARHD 22 ROM, unlocked bootloaded thru htcdev, S-On. here is all i had to do to flash this (super simple)
fire up fastboot on phone
verify fastboot via cmd (fastboot devices)
enter fastboot oem lock
phone reboots and i now have **Tampered** **Relocked** on bootloader
leave phone in fastboot and run the RUU file and 10 min later
factory phone
thanks all for posting this, I'll be re-rooting and flashing custom recovery soon but so nice to have wifi calling back.
I keep getting an Error 155. I've googled around and I can't seem to find anything that works. At my wits end here. Anyone?
I used this today and having trouble unlocking the boot loader. Do I need to get a new code?

Hi, I converted my phone to GPE. I tried to run this RUU with no luck I always get error 155. It is unlocked and S-OFF. I tried the tmobile cid, super cid, t mobile stock recovery, relock the bootloader. What should I do can some one explain step by step?
I got a question about the ruu. I have a Att phone I'm selling to a T-Mobile guy could I make the phone officially a T-Mobile device by using this ruu??

you are welcome.
Remember that for the ruu to work you need to relock the bootloader and have stock recovery. and unroot. it works with S-OFF so no need to S-ON

Bootloader lock only needed for s-on.

I'm not 100% sure.. but ,I always re-lock the bootloader just in case
How can I install this with S-on? Couldn't get S-off because firewater is broken for me.
My phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked. How can I lock the bootloader without S-off?

you could try Sunshine to get S-OFF it cost $25 dollars but it can S-OFF your device.
But I think that you do not need to be s-off to run the RUU, if you want to easily relock the bootloader use tthe HTC One 2014 (M8) All-In-One Toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2699065 its the easiest way
Can I use this to go from Google Play Edition back to stock Sense assuming I change my CID back to AT&T?
I am S-OFF and Bootloader Unlocked and obviously ATT branded.
Yes

no bugs so far but battery life isn't that great as with the last FW although there is no battery drain like with the OTA but I'm not impressed with the battery performance

I have my phone set up like I want it. Stable, everything works. Running 4.4.2 rooted, unlocked, twrp recovery, etc. All the apps I want. So on and so forth.
Will nandroid backup made now work after I run this ruu? Basically update the os and then recover everything the way I have it set up now?
Sorry for asking what seems, even to me, a basic beginners question.

In short...No. First off, you can't install the 4.4.3 update if you have a TWRP recovery installed. You have to have the stock recovery in order to do the update. But...for the sake of argument, you did the update and...then re-rooted and restored your nandroid. You would in effect overwrite the update and put yourself back to where you started (if that makes any sense).
My advice would be to install a custom ROM that containes the 4.4.3 update already...or put a stock recovery back on your phone and do the update. There is a nice all-in-one update you can run right off the sdcard using Hboot. I did it and it was flawless.
Either way, you'll most likely be setting up your phone again but that really shouldn't be too bad. Take some screenshots so you will remember just how you had things.
Hope this helps and good luck.

I have to ask, if you went through all that trouble, why would you ever want to run ATT software? You could have easily converted to Dev Edition and never looked back.

I can't answer for the OP, but coming from the factory unlocked version and having tried various firmwares and ROMs (including Dev), the ATT RUU is the only one that gives me true LTE speeds.
Scott, could you point me towards that update using Hboot?
